SUMMARY: Modifications occurring in the plasma membrane and their relationship to newly synthesized microfibrils were examined in regenerating protoplasts of Candida albicans by freeze-fracture electron microscopy. Freshly prepared protoplasts showed no residual wall material, and long invaginations covered the surface of the plasma membrane. Analysis of the external face (E-face) of the plasma membrane showed a significant decrease in the number of intramembranous particles (IMP) in comparison with the original cells. After 40 min incubation in regeneration medium, newly synthesized microfibrils which seemed to originate from protrusions in the plasma membrane were observed. The plasma membrane showed important modifications with respect to IMP. After 3 h 45 min, the cells were covered by an abnormal wall which showed isolated fibrils partially embedded in the matrix material. Locus coeruleus neurons are strongly coupled during early postnatal development, and it has been proposed that these neurons are linked by extraordinarily abundant gap junctions consisting of connexin32 (Cx32) and connexin26 (Cx26), and that those same connexins abundantly link neurons to astrocytes. Based on the controversial nature of those claims, immunofluorescence imaging and freeze-fracture replica immunogold labeling were used to re-investigate the abundance and connexin composition of neuronal and glial gap junctions in developing and adult rat and mouse locus coeruleus. Purpose: : Despite a wealth of information gathered with biochemical and molecular biology methods, the three-dimensional structure of the lens fiber cell cytoskeleton remains poorly understood. A reason for this dearth of information has been the low resolution of the methods used to image the cytoskeleton in the fiber environment. Here, we used conical tomography in an effort to resolve the structure of the fiber cytoskeleton in three dimensions and at higher resolution. Methods: : We used conical tomography to image the cytoskeleton of rat lenses prepared by thin sectioning and freeze-fracture electron microscopy. The specimens were imaged tilted at a fixed angle of 55 degrees, and then rotated at 5 degrees increments until completing a 360 degrees turn. Self-filling blind loops of rat jejunum exhibit hyperregenerative transformation of the mucosa. We used this experimental model to characterise mechanisms, which may occur under similar conditions in man (stagnant loop syndrome). Epithelial and subepithelial resistance were measured in the Ussing-chamber by voltage divider ratio measurements after positioning a microelectrode between epithelium and subepithelial tissue layers. In the blind loop, epithelial resistance increased from 8 +/- 1 to 23 +/- 1 omega cm2 and subepithelial resistance from 39 +/- 4 to 86 +/- 8 omega cm2 as compared with control jejunum. The increase in the subepithelial resistance was paralleled anatomically by an increase in the thickness of the subepithelial tissue layers from 63 +/- 4 microns to 177 +/- 19 microns. This paper deals with measurement and analysis of fog flow in a greenhouse. In this study we applied a gas-liquid two phase flow spray and a pesticide spray using new technology such as a non-heating fog carrier, in order to prevent desease and insects in agricultural operations. Spray particle density was analyzed by a new method using an air sampler, and the behavior of fog particles in the space was studied. The following results were obtained, 1. The spray particles were within a size of 15 ~ 30μm and the behavior of these particles were clarified in this experiment. 2. The floating time after spray of particles, and the diffusing performance of spray particles in the greenhouse were clearly observed, tracked and recorded in this experiment. 3. Previously a hydrodynamic limit was proved in the case where the environment is such that the random walks are ballistic (i.e., transient with non-zero speed [math]v_0 \neq 0)[/math]. In this case it was shown that the asymptotic particle density is simply translated deterministically by the speed $v_0$. In this talk we will consider the more difficult case of RWRE that are transient but with $v_0=0$. Under the appropriate space-time scaling, we prove a hydrodynamic limit for the system of random walks. Each replica in the distributed system maintains a cursor indicative of the extent to which other replicas in the system are consistent with one another. By examining the information in its cursor, a destination replica requesting replication from a source replica is able to determine the extent to which it has been made consistent with that source replica via indirect paths, thus potentially improving the starting point of replication. The source replica similarly examines its cursor to potentially improve the starting point of replication with respect to the starting point requested by the destination replica. In this manner, redundant information transmitted from a source replica when replicating a destination replica is reduced. The reduction in the amount of transmitted replication data is particularly appreciable when the replication topology of the system is changed such as by adding a new

We study the dynamics of inertial particles in three-dimensional incompressible maps, as representations of volume-preserving flows. The impurity dynamics has been modeled, in the Lagrangian framework, by a six-dimensional dissipative bailout embedding map. The fluid-parcel dynamics of the base map is embedded in the particle dynamics governed by the map. The base map considered for the present study is the Arnold-Beltrami-Childress (ABC) map. We consider the behavior of the system both in the aerosol regime, where the density of the particle is larger than that of the base flow, as well as the bubble regime, where the particle density is less than that of the base flow. The phase spaces in both the regimes show rich and complex dynamics with three types of dynamical behaviors-chaotic structures, regular orbits, and hyperchaotic regions.
