Reliable and abundant resources are likely to favour specialisation, while unpredictable environmental variation should favour a generalist strategy. The rodent population cycles of northern latitudes can be seen as both predictable and unpredictable, depending on the scale in time and space. The arctic fox (Alopex lagopus) is an opportunistic carnivore, but paradoxically, it seems to function as a specialist on fluctuating rodent (Arvicolinae) populations in most inland areas. We have studied the dietary response of arctic foxes in Sweden during five years of varying abundance of Norwegian lemming (Lemmus lemmus), and how these changes influenced reproductive success of the foxes. The arctic fox population on mainland Fennoscandia is threatened by extinction and the situation has deteriorated during the 1980´s and 90´s, due to an absence of lemming peaks. Our results showed that in all years, lemming was the main prey for arctic foxes, with in total 85% frequency of occurrence in summer ...

AU - Fox, MT. AU - Taylor, MA. PY - 2008/6/1. Y1 - 2008/6/1. N2 - The nematode parasite Angiostrongylus vasorum is a source of increasing concern in several parts of the world, where it causes significant disease in dogs. Wild canids, especially foxes, are likely to have a role in the epidemiology of canine infection, and the parasite could also affect fox health and population dynamics. The heart and pulmonary vasculature of 546 foxes culled mostly by gamekeepers in Great Britain in 2005-2006 were examined by dissection and a modified flushing technique. Forty foxes were found to be infected, giving an overall prevalence in the UK fox population of 7.3% (5.3-9.9). Prevalence varied widely between regions, from 0% (0-3) in Scotland and northern England to 23% (16-32) in south-east England. This closely ...
Evolution acts on variations in individuals via the mechanisms of natural selection, genetic drift, and gene flow. Using genomic sequencing methods such as genotype-by-sequencing (GBS) to detect single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) can lead to a better understanding of a species evolutionary history and identify patterns of local adaptations. Abiotic and biotic factors can cause selective pressures that may be seen in the red foxs genome. Additionally, debate continues to whether red foxes remained in isolated refugia or existed as a continuous population in southern Europe. Regardless, previous studies highlight the importance of refugia of the Last Glacial Maximum period in shaping genetic variation and differentiation in many taxa. This study aims to provide additional evidence to this dispute while also uncovering signatures of selection in genes related to the new conditions faced as red foxes pushed northwards in a warming climate. To test these predictions, recently generated GBS data ...
The red fox (Vulpes vulpes) is the largest of the true foxes and one of the most widely distributed members of the order Carnivora, being present across the entire Northern Hemisphere including most of North America, Europe and Asia, plus parts of North Africa. It is listed as least concern by the IUCN. Weekdays at 11 am on WILL-AM 580. The tail lacks the usual black basal spot. [42] The largest red fox on record in Great Britain was a 17.2 kg (38 lb), 1.4-metre (4 ft 7 in) long male, killed in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, in early 2012. [39]:93 Kits are born blind, deaf and toothless, with dark brown fluffy fur. [11]:229-230 The pelts of silver foxes are popular as capes,[11]:246 while cross foxes are mostly used for scarves and rarely for trimming. Training these dogs is on the easier side, as Fox Red Labradors are smart and love to please. Cnut the Great re-classed foxes as Beasts of the Chase, a lower category of quarry than Beasts of Venery. Two additional stripes pass down the shoulder blades, ...
Arctic foxes tend to select dens that are easily accessible with many entrances, and that are clear from snow and ice making it easier to burrow in. The Arctic fox builds and chooses dens that face southward towards the sun, which makes the den warmer. Arctic foxes prefer large, maze-like dens for predator evasion and a quick escape especially when red foxes are in the area. Natal dens are typically found in rugged terrain, which may provide more protection for the pups. But, the parents will also relocate litters to nearby dens to avoid predators. When red foxes are not in the region, Arctic foxes will use dens that the red fox previously occupied. Shelter quality is more important to the Arctic fox than the proximity of spring prey to a den.[12]. The main prey in the tundra is lemmings, which is why the white fox is often called the lemming fox. The white foxs reproduction rates reflect the lemming population density, which cyclically fluctuates every 3-5 years.[18][13] When lemmings are ...
Rabies is a major issue for human and animal health in the Arctic, yet little is known about its epidemiology. In particular, there is an ongoing debate regarding how Arctic rabies persists in its primary reservoir host, the Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus), which exists in the ecosystem at very low population densities. To shed light on the mechanisms of rabies persistence in the Arctic, we built a susceptible-exposed-infectious-recovered (SEIR) epidemiological model of rabies virus transmission in an Arctic fox population interacting with red foxes (Vulpes vulpes), a rabies host that is increasingly present in the Arctic. The model suggests that rabies cannot be maintained in resource-poor areas of the Arctic, characterized by low Arctic fox density, even in the presence of continuous reintroduction of the virus by infected Arctic foxes from neighbouring regions. However, in populations of relatively high Arctic fox density, rabies persists under conditions of higher transmission rate, prolonged ...

We have measured the carbon isotopic compositions of individual fatty acids isolated from the adipose tissue of arctic foxes (Alopex lagopus) from the island of Svalbard on the Spitsbergen archipelago to examine whether dietary sources can be distinguished in the fatty acid isotopic signature. The diets of Svalbard arctic foxes are unusual in that some members of the population are believed to feed largely in the terrestrial food chain while others feed mainly from the marine food chain. Isotopic data were obtained for the five major fatty acids present (16:0, 16:1, 18:0, 18:1, and 20:1). A wide range in δ13C values for specific fatty acids in Arctic foxes is observed and the mixing lines produced by the correlation in δ13C of the 16- and 18-carbon fatty acids indicate that both marine and terrestrial dietary sources determine fatty acid isotope composition. The differences in δ13C values between marine and terrestrial organisms appear to be passed on to individual fatty acids. The abundance ...
Author(s): Lewis, Jeffrey C.; Sallee, Kevin L.; Golightly, Richard T., Jr.; Jurek, Ronald M. | Abstract: Since the late 1800s, non-native red foxes have been introduced in California for fur farming and fox hunting. Dispersal, population growth, and extensive translocations by humans have aided the expansion of the nonnative fox population throughout many of the lowland and coastal areas of the state. Since the 1980s, non-native red foxes have been recognized as predators of a number of endangered species. Trapping and euthanizing non-native red foxes have been used as methods to protect these endangered species, but have been opposed by some members of the public. Opposition by animal rights groups to red fox trapping and euthanization has significantly influenced the management actions and policies of wildlife agencies. Red foxes are among the wildlife species commonly recognized in our culture; however, their historical use as a commodity and a game animal, and their impact on several endangered

Previous studies have suggested that the presence of sea ice is an important factor in facilitating migration and determining the degree of genetic isolation among contemporary arctic fox populations. Because the extent of sea ice is dependent upon global temperatures, periods of significant cooling would have had a major impact on fox population connectivity and genetic variation. We tested this hypothesis by extracting and sequencing mitochondrial control region sequences from 17 arctic foxes excavated from two late-ninth-century to twelfth-century AD archaeological sites in northeast Iceland, both of which predate the Little Ice Age (approx. sixteenth to nineteenth century). Despite the fact that five haplotypes have been observed in modern Icelandic foxes, a single haplotype was shared among all of the ancient individuals. Results from simulations within an approximate Bayesian computation framework suggest that the rapid increase in Icelandic arctic fox haplotype diversity can only be ...

Heres a follow up to our story last Friday about Progress Illinois having its YouTube account restored. The YouTube account had been taken down following multiple DMCA takedown notices from Fox, leading YouTube to institute its usual policy of shutting such accounts down. Progress Illinois sent a counternotice, and after Fox failed to sue the activist group, the account was turned back on. Paul Alan Levy points us to some more troubling details about the discussions between Progress Illinois and Fox. Apparently, Fox sought to have Progress Illinois waive its fair use rights on all future Fox material and demanded that it be allowed to run ads on the Progress Illinois site in exchange for allowing the content to be placed on YouTube. On top of this, Levy notes that Fox is apparently preparing a deal with another video site (that will include its desired ads), which Fox will apparently demand sites use in reporting on Fox News reports. As Levy suggests, Fox may then use this to suggest that any ...
Red foxes hunt alone. They are Omnivorous, feeding on rodents, birds, rabbits, and other small animals as well as fruit and vegetables, fish, frogs, and insects. The red fox will continue to hunt even when it is full.[3] It stores leftover food to eat later. When they are raised by humans domestically, they can also eat pet food. Red Foxes hunt mostly at night, sunset, and dawn.[4]. When prey has been detected, the fox crouches low to the ground and moves towards it, while attempting to minimize any noise or visual warnings. During the approach, the fox´s eyes remain on its prey. A chase starts once the fox has been seen, the prey escaping through dense bushes, or in the fox disabling it by biting it in the legs.. ...

In the UK I met many fox controllers who hate foxes and shoot them all year round. This attitude seems to be quite common and I can understand a frustrated farmer would like to see all foxes dead. On the other hand, I come from the country where foxes have closed season and are not (or at least were not a couple of years ago, but it is changing I regret to say…) treated more like a valuable hunting animal, not a vermin. I know foxes can do a lot of damage and have to be controlled, I am just not convinced about the means and certainly would not like to shoot a mature fox in Spring, knowing there are dependent cubs somewhere… However, after cubs are not dependent anymore and vixens are not lactating I am happy to help with any fox problem. I am sure more intense culling can make up some quiet time in Spring and avoid any unnecessary suffering.. We also cannot forget foxes play positive role are are part of the ecosystem. So why control foxes then? From my point of view this is kind of ...
Allergens with the same molecular weight were found in Mink, Blue Fox, Silver Fox, Raccoon, Dog and Fitchew fur and urine extracts. With cross-reacting sera the reciprocal RAST inhibition with all 5 animal extracts indicated common IgE-binding epitopes, probably common allergens (especially the 62-67 kDa bands). Urine and fur contain common allergens, since urine allergens strongly inhibited IgE binding to fur allergens. The IgE binding to allergenic bands of fur animal (Fox, Mink, Raccoon) extracts was also observed in immunoblotting when Dog and Cat Specific IgE containing sera were used. RAST inhibition of Dog-positive sera with fur animal extracts and fur-animal-positive sera with Dog extract confirmed the cross-reactivity of these IgE antibodies. No such inhibition was seen with Cow extract. These results suggest that fur animals have IgE binding epitopes or allergens-possibly albumin-in common with Cat and Dog; but not with Cow (1 ...

The conservation status of the species is in general good and several hundred thousand individuals are estimated to remain in total. The IUCN has assessed it as being of least concern.[1] However, the Scandinavian mainland population is acutely endangered, despite being legally protected from hunting and persecution for several decades. The estimate of the adult population in all of Norway, Sweden, and Finland is fewer than 200 individuals.[12] As a result, the populations of arctic fox have been carefully studied and inventoried in places such as the Vindelfjällens Nature Reserve (Sweden), which has the arctic fox as its symbol.. The abundance of the Arctic fox tends to fluctuate in a cycle along with the population of lemmings and voles (a 3- to 4-year cycle).[15] The populations are especially vulnerable during the years when the prey population crashes, and uncontrolled trapping has almost eradicated two subpopulations.[12]. The pelts of Arctic foxes with a slate-blue coloration-an ...
We used stable carbon isotopes to analyse individual variation in arctic fox diet. We extracted collagen from bones (the lower jaw), and measured stable carbon isotopes. The foxes came from three different localities: Iceland, where both microtines and reindeer are rare; west Greenland, where microtines are absent; and Sweden, where seat analyses showed the primary food to be microtine rodents and reindeer. The Icelandic samples included foxes from both coastal and inland habitats, the Swedish sample came from an inland area, and the Greenland sample from coastal sites. The spatial variation in the isotopic pattern followed a basic division between marine and terrestrial sources of protein. Arctic foxes from inland sites had delta(13)C values of -21.4 (Ice land) and -20.4 parts per thousand (Sweden), showing typical terrestrial values. Coastal foxes from Greenland had typical marine Values of -14.9 parts per thousand, whereas coastal foxes from Iceland had intermediate values of -17.7 parts per ...
The reference ranges for spectacled flying foxes are temporally comparable to black flying fox population and sex cohort analyte values (McMichael et al. 2015, 2016). Higher protein, albumin, and glucose values of spectacled flying foxes likely reflect a higher quality and quantity of food resources in a tropical rain forest habitat, whereas higher triglycerides may be consistent with black flying fox winter depletion of fatty acid reserves with putative thermoregulation demands of subtropical southeastern Queensland winters (McMichael et al. 2017). Intraerythrocytic protozoal parasites, subsequently characterised as Hepatocystis sp. (Schaer et al. 2018), were present in 56% (28 of 50) of spectacled flying foxes compared to only 4% (16 of 385) of black flying foxes, likely reflecting differing climatic conditions conducive to vector presence and transmission. For spectacled flying foxes, the higher eosinophil and platelet counts, higher aspartate transferase (AST), alanine transferase (ALT), and ...

Identification of wildlife species from indirect evidence can be an important part of wildlife management, and conventional +methods can be expensive or have high error rates. We used chemical characterization of the volatile organic constituents (VOCs) in scat as a method to identify 5 species of North American canids from multiple individuals. We sampled vapors of scats in the headspace over a sample using solid-phase microextraction and determined VOC content using gas chromatography with a flame ionization detector. We used linear discriminant analysis to develop models for differentiating species with bootstrapping to estimate accuracy. Our method correcdy classified 82.4% (bootstrapped 95% CI = 68.8-93.8%) of scat samples. Red fox (Vulpes vulpes) scat was most frequendy misclassified (25.0% of scats misclassified); red fox was also the most common destination for misclassified samples. Our findings are the first reported identification of animal species using VOCs in vapor emissions from scat and

Yes we have been supplying this treatment for many years to pet owners for their dogs and other animals with great success. The mange treatment that we supply (Arsenicum Alb & Sulphur 30c) is a homoeopathic remedy that has been proven to work against the dreadful condition of Sarcoptic Mange in foxes. Since the remedy is made up of natural ingredients there is no fear of overdosing and nothing to worry about if a non-infected fox or other animal or bird takes the treatment. To avoid the local cat population stealing the treatment meant for the fox, we suggest that it is administered via jam, honey or peanut butter sandwiches; foxes love sweet things - cats dont! Since foxes are instinctively selfish with their food, if you have more than one fox visiting your property suffering from mange we recommend that the food is scattered rather than placing it in one spot. This will then ensure that more than one fox feeding at the same time can do so without having to be nose to nose with each ...

Mammalian coats are colored for a variety of reasons, the major selective pressures including camouflage, sexual selection, communication, and physiological processes such as temperature regulation. Camouflage is a powerful influence in a large number of mammals, as it helps to conceal individuals from predators or prey.[4] Aposematism, warning off possible predators, is the most likely explanation of the black-and-white pelage of many mammals which are able to defend themselves, such as in the foul-smelling skunk and the powerful and aggressive honey badger.[5] In arctic and subarctic mammals such as the arctic fox (Alopex lagopus), collared lemming (Dicrostonyx groenlandicus), stoat (Mustela erminea), and snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus), seasonal color change between brown in summer and white in winter is driven largely by camouflage.[6] Differences in female and male coat color may indicate nutrition and hormone levels, important in mate selection.[7] Some arboreal mammals, notably primates ...
To control the arctic variant of rabies virus in red foxes, 332,257 bait doses containing live, attenuated Evelyn-Rokitnicki-Abelseth rabies vaccine were distributed in greater metropolitan Toronto during 1989-1999. Human and pet contact with bait was minimal, and no adverse reactions to the vaccine were noted. Significantly fewer rabid foxes were found during the 17 years after fox baiting (5 cases during 1990-2006) than in the 17 years before (96 cases during 1973-1989). The last report of a rabid fox in metropolitan Toronto was in 1996 (reporting period through September 2006), which confirms that distributing oral rabies vaccine bait is a feasible tactic for the control of rabies in foxes in urban environments.

Flying foxes belong to chiroptera (hand-wing) or bats. Unlike small insect-eating microbats flying foxes do not have echolocation and use their eyes and ears like all other mammals. There are four species of native flying foxes on the Australian mainland. Little Red, Black, Grey-headed and Spectacled. Flying foxes are a keystone species. Their diet is nectar, pollen and fruit obtained at night when native tree flowers produce most of their nectar. Their ecological role is that of pollination and seed dispersal.. By flying long distances from their camps each evening (30-40 kilometres) and between camps (100s of kilometres) the bats carry seed and pollen(genetic material) to other forests and trees. The out-cross pollination is valuable to our forests and ecosystems ensuring a healthy flow of new genes.. All flying foxes species have declined since European settlement. Fox primarily served as his backup during the next two seasons. In the 1999-2000 season playoffs, Fox played all 23 games as the Lakers advanced to the 2000 NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers. In the Finals, Fox averaged 6.7 points, including 11 in the Lakers game 1 victory.[11] In game 6, with the Lakers leading the series 3-2, Fox hit a critical three-pointer in the fourth quarter to help the Lakers final rally as they won the game and the NBA title, Foxs first.[12] Following the departure of Glen Rice, Fox started 77 of 82 games in the 2000-01 season, posting an average of 9.6 points a ...

This is very rare; a survey in northwest Bristol, where foxes were particularly common, showed that they killed 0.7% of the cats each year and these were predominantly young kittens. This means your cat is far more likely to be run over, stray or die from a variety of other causes.. Foxes are only a little bit bigger than a cat (males average about 5.5 kilograms) and are equipped with a set of sharp teeth. Cats have an equally sharp set of teeth, plus some pretty unpleasant sharp claws. If a fox tackles a cat, it risks severe injuries and that is the last thing it wants. Every night a single fox will meet many, perhaps dozens of cats and most encounters are either indifferent or amicable.. Cats and foxes will usually ignore each other. However, some cats are aggressive animals and will go for a fox, sometimes to drive it away from their garden or food bowl. Usually a fox will flee but if this is not practical and particularly if it is cornered, it may defend itself against the cat. Then both ...

Infected rodents could potentially be spreading it as well as foxes, and one wonders about this possibility with respect to Sweden, since an overland route for migrating foxes around the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Bothnia would take a very long time. But, realistically, any number of animals could bring it in, and there is also the possibility that it has been present for decades at a low level, and is only being discovered now because people are actively looking for it. Interestingly, I found a report that said the population of red foxes in Sweden declined by more than 70% in the 1970s and 80s due to sarcoptic mange, so the fox population there may be on the rise due to recovery from that as well (Red Fox: Vulpes vulpes. Rabies is regarded as an endemic disease throughout most parts of the Arctic. The Arctic fox is the main host of the virus, and the same arctic virus variant seems to infect the Arctic fox throughout the area it inhabits. How rabies is maintained in the fox population remains largely unknown. On Svalbard, rabies was diagnosed for the first time in 1980 during an outbreak in the Arctic fox population. From 1980 to 1999, a total of 25 animals were diagnosed with rabies on the islands, including three reindeer and one ringed seal. No further cases had been reported until the diagnosed case in a polar fox in January 2011. Mainland Norway remains rabies-free ...

The Left is obsessed with Fox News, and just as the Left floated the idea of reviving the fairness doctrine to shut down Rush Limbaugh (the hush Rush rule, as it was called), the Left would love to find a way for the government to shut down or regulate Fox News into oblivion. Call it the Fox News Derangement Syndrome.. But it looks like the Left may have outsmarted itself (yeah, I know-a low bar to clear) with an academic study that claims Fox News skews election results-specifically, that Fox News coverage cost Al Gore the 2000 election. According to the Puffington Host summary, Those analyses found that if Fox News had not existed in 2000, the Republican vote would have dropped by 1.3 percentage points. The NBER paper on which this is based concludes that We estimate that Fox News increases the likelihood of voting Republican by 0.9 points among viewers induced into watching ...
The Government of Nunavuts Health Department is warning residents to be on the lookout for foxes near communities.. In a Nov. 10 release, health officials say theres been a significant increase in fox sightings around Nunavut this season.. Its not clear if the population has actually grown or if the foxes are just drawn to communities more than usual.. The main concern is an increased risk of foxes transmitting rabies to dogs and people.. Just last week, the GN sent a fox captured near the Meliadine mine site near Rankin Inlet out for testing, after a number of animals were spotted in the region.. The Health Department said the test came back negative, though more foxes have since been sent for testing.. The sightings arent limited to the Kivalliq; the increase appears to be territory-wide.. If Nunavummiut or their pets have had any contact with a fox, the GN encourages them to go to their local health centre-especially if the contact was in the form of a bite or a scratch.. The rabies virus ...
DNA analysis shows that the first three form monophyletic clades. The wolf-like canids and the South American canids together form the tribe Canini.[6] Molecular data imply a North American origin of living Canidae some 10 Mya and an African origin of wolf-like canines (Canis, Cuon, and Lycaon), with the jackals being the most basal of this group. The South American clade is rooted by the maned wolf and bush dog, and the fox-like canids by the fennec fox and Blanfords fox. The gray fox and island fox are basal to the other clades; however, this topological difference is not strongly supported.[7] The cladogram below is based on the phylogeny of Lindblad-Toh et al. (2005),[7] modified to incorporate recent findings on Canis,[8] Vulpes,[9] Lycalopex,[10] and Dusicyon[11] species. ...

Knocked to his knees and unable to breathe on the 14th hole, Broncos coach John Fox forgot about his par putt or the Super Bowl and began to wonder if Nov. 2, 2013, was destined to be the day he died. During the NFL bye week, playing golf with buddies, crumpled on the ground barely 200 yards from his home in North Carolina? [...] Fox looked me in the eye and spoke the real nitty-gritty: Luckily, I was able to fight it off. [...] if I passed out, I wasn t sure I was coming back. Fox told his story in a bustling hallway of the Broncos headquarters at Dove Valley, Colo., with a smile plastered on his face, a coach delighted to be back at work for his first-place football team only four weeks after open-heart surgery Nov. 4 to repair a faulty aortic valve. [...] nightmares that can be induced by life-insurance commercials have not turned Fox into a worrying insomniac, and a joke told by the coach at his own expense is your proof. Waiting in the hospital for doctors to crack open his chest, Fox
Fox goes from operating room to NFLs grandest stage JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Like his teammates and everyone else in the organization, Denver quarterback Peyton Manning was shocked to hear coach John Fox would be undergoing emergency heart surgery in November and would be sidelined for an undetermined time. The Broncos were taking it easy on the weekend of their bye week when they found out that Fox had suffered an aortic stenosis on a golf course in Charlotte, N.C., where he kept a home after coaching at Carolina for nine years. Fox collapsed on the golf course, an ambulance was called, and he was rushed to a Charlotte hospital on Saturday. Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, who was in his first season with Denver after being fired as Jacksonvilles head coach, would become interim coach. Coach Fox has a great relationship with all of his players, so we were concerned for his well-being, and we were relieved once we knew he was going to be okay, Manning said. Luckily, I was able to get the blood

Genetic analysis of non-invasive samples is an important wildlife management tool, and is especially useful to inform management of rare or cryptic species. Here, we describe how genetic tools for species detection and individual identification can be applied within a management context, to find and monitor an invasive predator and understand its impacts on native wildlife.. The introduced red fox (Vulpes vulpes) has been implicated in extinctions and declines of many Australian vertebrates, and fox management remains a challenge to conservation across much of the continent. The island of Tasmania was considered to be fox-free, but from the late 1990s increasing evidence pointed to a fox incursion. Tasmania is home to species that have declined or become extinct elsewhere in Australia and are at particular risk of fox predation.. Since 2007, we have used genetics to study Australian foxes. We have conducted landscape-scale surveys for predator scats in Tasmania, and used a PCR and sequencing ...
This projection was false. It was either an incredibly stupid error or it was a deliberate lie, and it really doesnt matter which it was, because Fox News has never even admitted it was wrong, much less have they explained why they misled their audience on Election Night.. Ace of Spades has been on a rampage against Fox News, where ratings have collapsed because they hate their audience.. Thats right - if you voted for Trump, Martha MacCallum hates you. She thinks youre a stupid racist bigot, and she doesnt want you watching her show. Same thing with Chris Wallace and Chris Stirewalt. They would rather hang out with Antifa looters than with Republican voters.. Its time to stop watching Fox News, forever.. UPDATE: Welcome, Instapundit readers!. At almost the exact time that I was writing this post, Bret Baier was on Fox News admitting that their Election Night projection of Democrats gaining House seats did not occur:. ...
So in early spring last year I was browsing a Guerlain counter listening to the facile chat of the saleswoman who seemed incredibly shocked I wore anything vaguely feminine and insisted on talking to me about Habit Rouge and Vetiver. I told her I actually disliked both and Guerlain had murdered the Vetiver through pointless tinkering and reformulation. She asked my opinion on Guerlain Homme, Thierry Wassers first major work for Guerlain after joining them as in-house perfumer and master in waiting to Jean-Paul G. I paused, recalling the acidic lime/mojito horror that had surfaced under the Guerlain name. It was utterly banal, bereft of any style and seemed to say: look Guerlain can do street. I told the poor woman it was not my thing. I liked my vanillas and balsams, my impact scents: my beloved Jicky and LHeure Bleue, deep and full of personal history. Dancefloors, kissing older men, and falling into taxis reeking of vanilla, amber, sex and fags. I always wore them too young, but the memories ...

When things got chippy between the two teams in the second half, Fox came to the defense of teammate Isaiah Briscoe in the second half after Briscoe took a charge from Jaylen Barford. Following the play, replays showed Barford allegedly stomping Briscoe in the chest with his foot. Fox and Barford received a double technical following the play.. Fox said the incident was nothing serious and I have my guys back and I know they have mine.. (It was) just guys out there playing with emotion, he said. At the end of the day you want that.. And its the kind of game Fox said will prove to be beneficial for the Wildcats as they delve deeper into conference play.. Sometimes theyll think freshmen arent ready to play hard and bang, he said. Some scouting reports are just be physical with a younger team, but were just showing teams we can play physical too. You see those guys, everybodys big. Its different from the high school game, but I think weve adjusted to the physicality. I think weve ...

If you can no longer fight the man who dons the UFC lightweight title, is fighting the man he beat to win the belt the next best option? I guess the answer isnt important, because this is now Josh Thomsons reality.. Lost in the drama surrounding Saturdays UFC 167 event was the announcement Thomson will now meet former champion Benson Henderson at UFC on FOX 10. The show takes place January 25 inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois.. Thomson was initially slated to challenge freshly-minted champ Anthony Pettis for his 155-pound crown at UFC on FOX 9, but Pettis was recently forced to withdraw from the December 14 shootout to undergo knee surgery.. Thomson has alternated between wins and losses over his past five scraps. The Punk was most recently seen in April posting a TKO victory over former top contender Nate Diaz in his return to the Octagon.. Henderson, meanwhile, looks to bounce back from his second straight loss to Pettis. Both defeats cost him his hardware - WEC title and now UFC ...
Rabies has been detected in a polar fox on Hopen, an island in the Svalbard archipelago. To date, rabies has never been detected in humans in Svalbard.
Aposematism, or the use of conspicuous contrasting coloration which warns potential predators that the bearer possesses some noxious quality, has been greatly understudied in mammals. I propose to examine aposematic signaling in mammalian carnivores with respect to the ecological and morphological factors which enhance detection, potential defensive strategies and the ultimate mortality consequences of these signals. To evaluate these parameters I plan to use a series of field experiments involving the alternate presentation of taxidermy mounts of striped skunks (Mephitis mephitis) and grey foxes (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) at baited camera stations. I will use motion-sensitive digital cameras with infra-red illumination to record frequency and proximity of heterospecific and conspecific visits to these mounts ...
Changes in the socialisation period. We know socialisation plays an important role for dogs, and it seems the same is the case in foxes. There is a sensitive period of socialisation in post-natal development.. Is clear is that the domestication process in foxes has resulted in a different, extended socialisation period. Firstly, they respond to sound two days earlier (and open their ears quicker) and open their eyes one day earlier (and also open their eyes quicker) than unselected foxes. The socialisation period of the domedicated fox closes 3 weeks later than non-domesticated lines (i.e. the unselected foxes have a socialisation period of 40-45 days, while unselected foxes have a socialisation period of 60-65 days). Domesticated foxes have accelerated maturation intitially, and then this is retarded. This means that foxes have an extended window, which allows them to learn more about human ways and how to respond to them.. Belyaev experimented with fox cubs from domesticated lines and lines ...

Watershed/Basin: 2,090 square miles (excludes Wolf River Basin). The Fox River has been a major driver of both man and nature since it formed after the last ice age. Lake Sturgeon, and Walleyes run these rivers every spring. For both species it is minor run compared to that of the Wolf River, but never-the-less it is of major importance. Although greatly diminished, waterfowl still congregate on the Fox Rivers backwaters and shallow lakes.. The Fox River begins its life in leisurely flows through a number of shallow lakes, meets the Wolf River at Lake Butte des Morts fans out over Lake Winnebago, before tumbling over the dams and Neenah and Menasha. There it falls rapidly on its way to Green Bay and Lake Michigan.. Long before white settlers came to Wisconsin, Native American gathered Wild Rice, hunted and fished these waters. The river was a major source of navigation and trade for the tribes. With the arrival of French fur traders this only increased. After settlement agricultural and ...
Jonathan Fox, new chief executive of Collyer-Bristow, likes to think of his new firm as a little dog. Unfortunately he does not specify which particular breed - shih-tzu are terribly fashionable this season - but I think its fair to say that hes thinking terrier rather than toy poodle.`This is all part of the Fox theory of business, which he has labelled the big dog, little dog syndrome. The idea is that the little dog can sneak up underneath the big dog and bite it, taking away small chunks of flesh. The big dog is powerless to do anything about it as the little dog is below and the big dog is not nimble enough.. You might have guessed by now that Fox is not a lawyer, but a marketeer by training and is as fond of his diagrams as many of his breed. Most of these involve semicircles dissected by lines - why is it that in any management training/marketing/business theory, circles are always good whereas straight lines are bad? And do ruler manufacturers agree?. He has been brought in by ...
Permeability data are very limited for the Fox Hills Sandstone. Mullen and Barlow and Haun, Inc. (1993), indicated a permeability of 49 md of the Fox Hills Sandstone in the West Side Canal reservoir in Carbon County in the Greater Green River Basin. By comparison with similar facies in the Powder River Basin, a typical permeability value of 50 md can be inferred for the Fox Hills Sandstone there, but the permeability distribution is unknown.. ...
