Dentists and dental technicians have to work together very closely so that prosthetics and implantology can be successfully combined. The dental industry supports such combined dental surgery-lab teams by providing them with a steady stream of new developments in all areas of the two disciplines. Examples of this include enhanced software, innovative materials and improved interfaces. From 12th to 16th March 2013, the International Dental Show (IDS) in Cologne will enable visitors to experience the manufacturers innovations at first-hand.. For some time now, theres been a strong trend towards digitisation, involving planning software, drill templates made with the aid of computers and CAD/CAM-produced implant superstructures. Today, these techniques greatly simplify processes during implantological and prosthetic surgery and also allow dentists to increasingly involve patients in the planning process. All of this ultimately leads to high-quality results in line with the patients wishes and ...

On May 11, 1993, Keith Rittmaster, Natural Science Curator of the NC Maritime Museum, discovered a dead bottlenose dolphin carcass washed ashore at Cape Lookout. Keith performed a necropsy to determine the sex, approximate age, possible cause of death, and to take tissue samples and measurements. It was a post-partum adult female, 260 cm long. The cause of death was not determined. Tissue samples (gonads and stomach) were sent to the Beaufort NMFS lab for analysis. Then students from Halifax Academy, Roanoke Rapids, NC assisted Keith in burying the carcass under approximately 1 meter of sand behind the primary dune on 1/4″ mesh hardware cloth.. On May 21, 1994, students from Halifax Academy returned to help Keith exhume the grave. After a year, very little flesh or residual tissue remained. 16 people divided into teams of 2-3 focused on specific aspects of the skeleton. Each arcade of teeth was pressed into a labeled piece of styrofoam. The vertebral column was strung together in order with ...

Downloadable! High-skilled emigration is an emotive issue that in popular discourse is often referred to as brain drain, conjuring images of extremely negative impacts on developing countries. Recent discussions of brain gain, diaspora effects, and other advantages of migration have been used to argue against this, but much of the discussion has been absent of evidence. This paper builds upon a new wave of empirical research to answer eight key questions underlying much of the brain drain debate: 1) What is brain drain? 2) Why should economists care about it? 3) Is brain drain increasing? 4) Is there a positive relationship between skilled and unskilled migration? 5) What makes brain drain more likely? 6) Does brain gain exist? 7) Do high-skilled workers remit, invest, and share knowledge back home? and 8) What do we know about the fiscal and production externalities of brain drain?
Reverse brain drain is a form of brain drain where human capital moves in reverse from a more developed country to a less developed country that is developing rapidly. These migrants may accumulate savings, also known as remittances, and develop skills overseas that can be used in their home country. Brain drain can occur when scientists, engineers, or other intellectual elites migrate to a more developed country to learn in its universities, perform research, or gain working experience in areas where education and employment opportunities are limited in their home country. These professionals then return to their home country after several years of experience to start a related business, teach in a university, or work for a multi-national in their home country. Their return is this "Reverse Brain Drain". The occurrence of reverse brain drain mostly depends on the state of the countrys development, and also strategies and planning over a long period of time to reverse the migration. Countries ...

Since its inception, the Global Health Workforce Alliance (the Alliance) has clearly identified health worker migration as one of the fundamental issues to be addressed for the resolution of the health workforce crisis. The HWMI has continued its work and became an independent programme. It is now housed at The Aspen Institute and is dedicated to identifying and promoting innovative policies to address the growing global challenge of inequitable healthcare access due to the migration of health workers, highlighting promising practices at the global, regional, and country level. HWMI runs various programs and initiatives, namely: Council Conversation Series, ...
There is a growing need for research scientists to acquire fundamental basic and clinical knowledge of physiology and metabolism to interpret the huge amount of available molecular information in the context of endocrine and metabolic disorders. The aim of this project was to determine the prevalence of RHD among Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous children. It also aimed to determine the most sensitive and specific screening method for RHD and use this information to guide future screening programs. The results of gECHO have helped to develop more accurate criteria for diagnosis of RHD on echo and ensure that only people who really have RHD will be treated for it.
