This meta-analysis, comprised of approximately 90,000 person-years of follow-up and including 3983 mortality events, showed that dietary patterns rich in vegetables and fruits, legumes, whole grains, and fiber together with lower consumption of red meat, sodium, and refined sugars were consistently associated with lower mortality in people with CKD. Existing cohort studies provide evidence of the association of healthy dietary patterns with risk of ESRD, major cardiovascular complications, and health-related quality of life, although there is considerable uncertainty in the results for these outcomes because of wide confidence intervals from meta-analyses that included few studies. To our knowledge, this is the first cumulative assessment of whole dietary patterns and their association with mortality and clinical complications in people with CKD.. The association of healthy dietary patterns with lower mortality in people with CKD is in contrast to the lack of association of restrictions of ...

Uncultivated food constitutes a very critical source of food and nutrition for tribal and a part and parcel of their food habit. Tribal communities used to have a symbiotic relationship with nature i.e. forest which used to cater to their basic food need. Technical analysis of these cultivated forest foods shows their high nutritive values. Traditional knowledge also puts a tab on what to eat, how to eat, and what not to eat. These organically grown foods hardly raised any concern on food safety issues as it is raised on the cultivated food grown with additives and chemical fertilizers.. These wild species of foods are supposed to be more resilient, and seem to be an alternate choice (a fallback option) in the age of climate change which has tremendous adverse impact on cultivated food production and other reasons such as a break in supply chain of trade in of cultivated food, with natural or man-made causes, disrupting the food intake of tribal. Cultural significance of these uncultivated foods ...
Currently, diabetes mellitus (DM) and systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) are among the top five global risks for mortality. Among the modifiable factors, careful dietary practice is one of the essential elements for the control of NCDs, since these diseases are often the result of unhealthy lifestyles. Thus, this study aimed to assess the frequency of dietary practices among adult males and females with DM and/or SAH, and compare whether or not they are more frequent than in healthy adults, through a population-based study conducted in the city of Florianópolis, southern Brazil. Cross-sectional population-based study, using as exposure self-reported DM and/or SAH status. Dietary practices were assessed using a semiquantitative food consumption questionnaire. The following were considered as adequate: regular intake (≥ 6 times/week) of fruit and vegetables, daily intake of fruit (≥ 3 times/day) and vegetables (≥ 2 times/day), intake lower than 2 times/week of meat fat, fried foods, and soda.

Recently, a new research study on American women has provided strong evidence that adopting healthy dietary patterns reduces the onset of cardiometabolic and endocrine diseases.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a population-based sample of 738 schoolchildren aged 6-14 years. A semi-structured questionnaire was used for collecting demographic, socioeconomic, biochemical, clinical, and anthropometric data. Food intake was determined by a food-frequency questionnaire. Food habits were evaluated according to the adapted Recommended Food Score. Multiple linear regression models were constructed to assess how food consumption was associated with cardiovascular risk factors. ...

A randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted at a community care center between February 2014 and February 2016. A random sampling was done (299), total population (3262). A sample of 74 subjects diagnosed with obesity (experimental group, n = 37 and control group, n = 37) was conducted. Inclusion criteria: obese people (BMI: >30 kg/m2) with metabolic comorbidity and bad nutritional habits. Exclusion criteria: other comorbidities. Come Ramadhan, our diet is radically altered. Our meals get condensed in mornings and evenings, with no intake in-between for an extended period of time. For some of us, the intake of oily foods skyrockets. These changes in diet arent well received by everyone. Dr. Farouk Haffejee of the Islamic Medical Association of South Africa(Durban) has created a list of recommendations for dealing withRamadhan in a healthy fashion. They deal with common problemsencountered in Ramadhan.Dr. Haffejee suggests that in the month of Ramadhan, our diet shouldnot differ very much from our normal diet and should be as simple aspossible. He says that our diet should maintain our normal weight, although he does mention that if one is over-weight, Ramadhan is agood time to shed some pounds. He also recommends foods that last longer. In view of the long hours of fasting, we should consume slowdigesting foods including fibre containing-foods rather thanfast-digesting foods. Slow digesting foods last up to 8 hours, ...

Do you know you need to eat better, do you know what you should be eating but still dont. Do you feel that despite your best intentions life and stuff seem to derail your efforts? Do you wonder why? We know there are multiple factors that influence our food choices. But did you know?. It is estimated that as much as 40% of what we do day to day is driven by habit rather than active day decisions, and yes this includes food choices.. Let me explain. There is a term called automaticity. It means we do things without having to actively think about them. The basal ganglia is found deep in the older more primitive part of our brains. It is involved in a form of learning that involves a stimulus and a response;we learn to respond to a trigger (stimulus) with a specific behaviour.. In the scheme of things this is a good thing. Humans are incredibly complex; we have eleven major body systems running 24 hours a day. The brain looks for ways of being more efficient, to be able to dial down as it where. ...

Big Offender: Refined, starchy carbohydrates (healthy carbs stripped of all the good stuff).. How It Ages You: Refined carbs are simply sugars in disguise. Starch turns into sugar the minute it hits your bloodstream, says Lodge. Beyond causing glycation (see Habit No. 2), refined carbs set the stage for insulin resistance.. Lodge notes that the human body evolved with a limited ability to break down sugars (and limited exposure to sugar in concentrated forms), so it hasnt kept pace with the modern diet.. After a meal laden with refined carbohydrates, the bodys blood-sugar levels soar, and the pancreas sprays insulin into the bloodstream to help cells convert the foods energy (glucose) into fuel. It often miscalculates and releases too much insulin.. As a result of this excess insulin, blood-sugar levels drop, and 30 minutes later youre hungry again. The body wasnt designed for this yo-yo effect, says Lodge. The technical term for this effect is insulin resistance; its a precursor to ...

In some cases, breast cancer in teenagers is characterized by pain. The teenager will complain about pain that comes and goes frequently on the breast. In some cases it could be constant and will last for more than one day before it stops. One should also check for change in color in parts of the breast. If these color changes do not disappear in a short-while, then it should be a cause for concern. Teenagers facing this disease need a lot of help from family members and support groups. This is especially important because, they feel that they do not fit in with their age-mates and are unlikely to find survivors among their peers. ...
