The trabecular shunting device may utilize a quantity of pharmaceuticals effective in treating glaucoma, which are controllably released from the device into cells of the trabecular meshwork and/or Schlemms canal. Depending upon the specific treatment contemplated, pharmaceuticals may be utilized in conjunction with the trabecular shunting device such that aqueous flow either increases or decreases as desired. Placement of the trabecular shunting device within the eye, and release of a glaucoma medication therefrom, can arrest or slow the progression of glaucoma.

Described herein are devices and methods for treating eye conditions. Described is an ocular implant including an elongate member having an internal lumen forming a flow pathway, at least one inflow port communicating with the flow pathway, and at least one outflow port communicating with the flow pathway. The elongate member is adapted to be positioned in the eye such that at least one inflow port communicates with the anterior chamber, at least one outflow port communicates with the suprachoroidal space to provide a fluid pathway between the anterior chamber and the suprachoroidal space when the elongate member is implanted in the eye. The elongate member has a wall material imparting a stiffness to the elongate member. The stiffness is selected such that after implantation the elongate member deforms eye tissue surrounding the suprachoroidal space forming a tented volume.
Determination of β-glucan in carbohydrates was studied by detecting change of exciting wavelength and emission wavelength as sodium fluorescein was mixed with β-glucan, glucose, fructose and maltose. The results showed that if sodium fluorescein was mixed with β-glucan, UV-absorption of fluorescein sodium changed from 436.5 nm to 510.6 nm, fluorescence absorption also changed: exciting wavelength from 487.3 nm to 475.9 nm, emission wavelength from 517.6 nm to 510.6 nm, if sodium fluorescein was mixed with other carbohydrates such as glucose, fructose or maltose, no change happened for fluorescence absorption.
