Context: Arthroscopic surgical repair of the shoulder is recommended when conservative treatment for shoulder instability (SI) fails. However, many patients undergoing this procedure do not return to same level of activity. Psychological factors and muscle strength have been shown to be associated with postoperative outcomes in other musculoskeletal conditions. Objective: To investigate the association between fear avoidance, muscle strength, and short-term function in patients after surgical SI repair. Methods: Twenty-five male patients who underwent shoulder surgery following at least one event of SI were included in this study. Evaluations of fear avoidance related to physical activity and disability were performed at baseline (during the first encounter with the physical therapist) and 7 to 8 weeks postsurgery. Fear avoidance beliefs were assessed using the Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire. Disability was assessed using the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire and the ...
Whether Fear Is a Passion of the Soul?. Objection 1: It would seem that fear is not a passion of the soul. For Damascene says (De Fide Orth. iii, 23) that fear is a power, by way of systole-i.e. of contraction-desirous of vindicating nature. But no virtue is a passion, as is proved in Ethic. ii, 5. Therefore fear is not a passion.. Obj. 2: Further, every passion is an effect due to the presence of an agent. But fear is not of something present, but of something future, as Damascene declares (De Fide Orth. ii, 12). Therefore fear is not a passion.. Obj. 3: Further, every passion of the soul is a movement of the sensitive appetite, in consequence of an apprehension of the senses. But sense apprehends, not the future but the present. Since, then, fear is of future evil, it seems that it is not a passion of the soul.. On the contrary, Augustine (De Civ. Dei xiv, 5, seqq.) reckons fear among the other passions of the soul.. I answer that, Among the other passions of the soul, after sorrow, fear ...
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is associated with impaired conditioned fear extinction learning, a ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC)-dependent process. PTSD is also associated with dysregulation of vmPFC, circadian, and glucocorticoid hormone function. Rats have rhythmic clock gene expression in the vmPFC that requires appropriate diurnal circulatory patterns of corticosterone (CORT), suggesting the presence of CORT-entrained intrinsic circadian clock function within the PFC. We examined the role of vmPFC clock gene expression and its interaction with CORT profiles in regulation of auditory conditioned fear extinction learning. Extinction learning and recall were examined in male rats trained and tested either in the night (active phase) or in the day (inactive phase). Using a viral vector strategy, Per1 and Per2 clock gene expression were selectively knocked down within the vmPFC. Circulating CORT profiles were manipulated via adrenalectomy (ADX) ± diurnal and acute CORT ...
ABSTRACT. Deficits in serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) neurotransmission are implicated in abnormal emotional behaviors such as aggression, anxiety, and depression. However, the specific 5-HT receptor mechanisms involved are not well understood. The role of 5-HT2 receptors in fear potentiated startle, (FPS) was examined in rats chronically treated with p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA) to reduce brain 5-HT. PCPA-treated rats show an enhanced magnitude of FPS. Systemic administration of the 5-HT2 receptor agonist (±)-2,5-Dimethoxy-4-iodoamphetamine hydrochloride (DOI) reduced FPS in both PCPA-treated and saline (SAL)-treated control animals, normalizing the exaggerated fear response in PCPAtreated rats. In both SALand PCPA-treated animals, the DOI-induced reduction of learned fear was reversed by the 5-HT2 antagonist ketanserin, but not by the 5-HT2B/2C antagonist SB 206553. Together, these findings suggest 5-HT2A receptors are critical regulators of learned fear, and that 5-HT2A receptors may ...
Did you know that fear is one of the most common themes discussed in the Bible? Believe it or not, God has a lot to say about how His people should be careful not to live in fear or give it control over their lives. Is fear a natural part of our human nature? Absolutely. Does that mean we should give it free reign over our lives? Absolutely not. Of course thats much easier said than done. The Bible shares some variation of fear not over 365 times! Thats right--a reminder for each and every day of the year. God in His grace knew before we were even designed what would keep us lying awake at night. He knew what circumstances would make our palms sweat and our knees wobbly. When God tells His people to fear not, He isnt condemning them or shaming them for being afraid. God is always kind not to minimize our problems or our fears. The things we fear can be very real and very big to us, but the kicker is this…. God is bigger. Remember David and Goliath? David didnt step up to battle ...
Occupational therapy practitioners may better tailor their interventions to meet clients individualized needs if they have an improved understanding of the relationship between activity restriction related to fear of falling and the consequences of anxiety and depression. This study found a relationship between (1) fear of falling and anxiety, depression, and activity level; (2) depression and anxiety; (3) activity restriction and depression; and (4) activity level and activity restriction. Activity level was negatively correlated with activity restriction, fear of falling, depression, and anxiety. Depression and anxiety predicted activity restriction because of fear of falling and for other reasons. In addition, anxiety predicted both activity level and fear of falling. Because activity engagement and occupational performance are central tenets of occupational therapy (AOTA, 2008), it is of paramount importance that occupational therapy practitioners screen their older adult clients for fear ...
Appropriate responses to an imminent threat brace us for adversities. The ability to sense and predict threatening or stressful events is essential for such adaptive behaviour. In the mammalian brain, one putative stress sensor is the paraventricular nucleus of the thalamus (PVT), an area that is readily activated by both physical and psychological stressors. However, the role of the PVT in the establishment of adaptive behavioural responses remains unclear. Here we show in mice that the PVT regulates fear processing in the lateral division of the central amygdala (CeL), a structure that orchestrates fear learning and expression. Selective inactivation of CeL-projecting PVT neurons prevented fear conditioning, an effect that can be accounted for by an impairment in fear-conditioning-induced synaptic potentiation onto somatostatin-expressing (SOM+) CeL neurons, which has previously been shown to store fear memory. Consistently, we found that PVT neurons preferentially innervate SOM+ neurons in ...
Dreams of anxiety and fear. Why not merge this with nightmares? Because dreams can explore the mood of fear without being nightmares. Some dreams even fearlessly analyze fear by showing you other people who represent your fears--letting you observe how you panic, as a fear-free lesson!. Also, Gestalt and Jungians and Freudians are wrong about one thing: not every figure and scene and mood in a dream is about you. Dreams are observant; they can dispassionately show you how others fear something you dont. Including, sometimes, how they fear you.. In short, some dreams are all about fears--discussing them or recommending actions--without being scary at all. My dreams seem to find my more unreasonable fears quite comical--even my worst nightmares are often screamingly funny. Its only the dream-self, in fears grip, who cant see the absurdity. Which is, of course, often the point.. RELATED TOPICS: nightmares of course - courage - anger - hatred - grief and tears - guilt - embarrassment and ...
Those in positions of power in government and in the media know this all too well. They use fear to influence the behavior of the masses. They front it as an offer we cant refuse, telling us its okay to be afraid, because, we have them to protect us. They use it as justification for the ever-expanding military industrial complex and the Orwellian Permanent War. They use it to manufacture political consent, and to manufacture tolerance of the ever-incessant attacks on privacy and liberty.. And heres the catch-22: The more we give in to the tyranny of fear, the less secure we are. Fear is a trap, and here are five tricks it uses to enslave you.. 1.) The Fear Tells You to Indulge in Anger and Hate. This one is widely understood, but worth repeating. If youre unable to overcome fear, then youre open to anger and hate, of which we see so much of in our world today. What is rarely discussed, however, is that fear is what fuels the anger and hate, and that fear that drives the unrest and chaos we ...
Our results show that activation of noradrenergic β-receptors in IL during fear extinction is necessary for later retrieval of extinction. A β-receptor-mediated signaling cascade increases intrinsic excitability of IL pyramidal neurons and stabilizes extinction in IL. Thus, fear-induced activation of β-receptors engages cellular processes that enhance extinction learning.. It has been previously shown that lesions of the locus ceruleus, which deprive the entire cortex of NE, impair extinction (Mason and Fibiger, 1979; McCormick and Thompson, 1982), but these effects were never localized. Our findings indicate that the IL is a key site for noradrenergic modulation of extinction. The idea that NE facilitates consolidation of extinction was recently suggested by Berlau and McGaugh (2006), who showed that posttraining infusions of NE into the amygdala facilitated extinction of contextual fear in a β-receptor-dependent manner (Berlau and McGaugh, 2006). Infusion of propranolol alone, however, had ...

Lets put ourselves in Ahazs sandals for a moment. What do you think his fears are in this moment? The big one is likely death, right? Or at least that hell follow in the footsteps of other kings who end up getting their thumbs cut off and have to become slaves of another nation.. But there are other fears in there too, right? You know that his legacy has to be rumbling around somewhere in the background. The pressure of him being the leader is huge. Others are depending on him. And he has a reputation to uphold. Does he want to be the guy known for being defeated by Syria and Israel? Theres all those common things present in his heart, I can almost guarantee it. Shame. The things that pride makes you do. Fear of dying. Fear of the unknown. Fear of suffering. Desires for comfort. Desire for reputation. All of that weighs on this decision.. Trust me, says the Lord.. What is happening to Ahaz in this moment is that the national question is driving him into a binary choice. Do we join with ...
It seems you are having a psychological fear. Firstly you have to see that from what do you fear. Is it the dentist, the treatment or the huge looking dental instruments?. You can openly speak up with your dentist or parents about the fear. You can ask your dentist to start the treatment gradually like in day one just introducing you to the treatment you will be getting and then the whole treatment. Also before going to dentist, go through the basics of the disease that you are going for getting treated and what are the treatment modalities for it. This way you will become familier with the instruments and treatment and finally you will see that your fear is all gone.. Remember, we always fear of unknown, when things become known to us, the fear is also gone. Fear is a very powerful concept. Fear can break men down, fear can build a mans career, fear can give rise to a new nation, and fear can lead to a scene of grisly deaths. Since the dawn of time fear has been a main motivator for not just human kind but also for animals. Animals have a natural instinct that tells them to run away when they sense danger, for man there is no exception. Everyone remembers what it is like to feel fear. Some people may have been scared as children of the boogie man, others may have been traumatized by some unfortunate event but we all feel fear from time to time. Parents are certainly some of the most fearful people on the planet because they constantly worry about their children. Fear comes in many forms but like with an animalistic instinct we try to run from what makes us afraid. If we are worried about the homeless man on the corner next to a stoplight we make sure our door is locked, if we are uncomfortable with the city we live in we move, if someone breaks ...
The cave you fear to enter holds the treasures you seek. - Joseph Campbell. Fear can hold us back from some of the most exhilarating joy well ever experience. Fear whispers lies at us:. You cant do that.. Who do you think you are?. Dont even bother. Youll just fail.. Like a bully at the playground, fear pounces just as we get the courage to try something new like the monkey bars. Fear taunts reminding us we feel uncomfortable. Out of control. Inexperienced. It tries to bind us up like a steer roped in a rodeo and hold us back from doing things we really love.. One thing Ive always loved is music. Powerful music cuts straight through to the heart. My brain stores lyrics like novels of poetry. The broad aim of the study is to implement and evaluate the efficacy of Graded Exposure Treatment (GET Living) to target elevated pain-related fears in children with chronic pain. Pain-related fear is an important psychological factor associated with poor outcomes in children suffering with chronic pain. To examine the efficacy of GET Living in addressing pain-related fears the investigators propose to use a sequential replicated randomized single-case experimental phase design with multiple measures. The specific aims are to 1) evaluate the effectiveness and acceptability of individually tailored GET Living for children with high pain-related fear and functional disability and 2) define anatomical and resting state connectivity patterns in the brains of children and adolescents with complex chronic pain prior to and after participation in GET Living ...
Over the past 2-3 decades, a converging corpus has implicated the amygdala in assigning emotional significance to sensory information. In particular, data from animal and human studies have demonstrated that the amygdala is a key node in a network of brain regions underlying fear responses. Consistent with its role in fear processing, amygdala hyperarousal has been implicated in a number of disorders, including anxiety and depression. Neuroimaging studies in healthy volunteers suggest that drugs used in the treatment of these disorders have rapid and direct effects on the amygdala fear response, an effect that may be important in the therapeutic action of antidepressants in depression and anxiety. © 2007 Copyright © 2007 Elsevier Inc. This chapter represents the neural circuits that underlie fear responses in animals and explores the possible implications for understanding fear and shyness in humans. It is shown in recent data that contextual and punctate auditory stimuli use different intra-amygdala pathways to access the central nucleus. There are two variables, similarity of a response to an animals species-typical defensive behavior and degree of fear, that present two dimensions along which the reactive and active systems may interact. The amygdala appears to be the place where both learning and expression of fear responses take place. ...
Background: Topical glucocorticoids (GCs) are the mainstay of treatment for eczema, but GC phobia and fears are very common among the parents of paediatric patients. Aim: To survey the nature and extent of fears of GC use, and to evaluate if disease severity is associated with such fears. Methods: Patients with eczema managed in the paediatric dermatology outpatient clinic of a university hospital were recruited in this survey. Disease severity and various aspects of belief and practices of GC use were assessed with the Nottingham Eczema Severity Score and a questionnaire. Results: GC fears were present in two fifths of informants with non-eczematous skin disease and mild eczema, but three fifths in moderate-to-severe disease. Requests for steroid-sparing medications (such as tacrolimus or pimecrolimus) had been made in nearly 50% of cases with moderate-to-severe eczema, and many parents would wait until eczema had worsened or apply GC only as a last resort to avoid potential side effects. ...
Extinction of conditioned fear forms a new memory in the infralimbic medial prefrontal cortex that is critical for subsequent retrieval of the extinction memory. Understanding the mechanisms that underlie this extinction-related plasticity could help in the treatment of anxiety disorders. By infusing BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) into the infralimbic cortex, Peters et al. caused the extinction of conditioned fear, even without an extinction trial. In fact, BDNF infusion seemed to act as if an extinction training session had been given. Thus, the hippocampus is a likely source of the BDNF input to the infralimbic cortex, and individual differences in extinction memory may reflect variations in hippocampal BDNF content.. J. Myself, Im more interested in asking the question, Why are we afraid? The author, Phil, makes it quite clear that he sees fear in a purely evolutionary context, and sees our fear of the future as natural.. I see this as the wrong approach. It assumes that our fear just happens. Of course, there is a good argument that fear is a natural survival instinct, but fear arises from what we experience through our senses. As individuals, if there is nothing to be fearful of, we dont conjure them up like a cheap magician.. As a personal example, walking around my neighbourhood was never a problem for me; I didnt feel afraid. At least, not until I discovered that the local kids had formed some gang and were intimidating passers-by. I was fine living in my house in peace and quiet until I learned that a few houses nearby were broken into.. Those things made me slightly more fearful of, say, going out late at night, or leaving the house for long periods of time. The funny thing, though, is that my ...
Whatever the means, the task of conquering fear is the most important in character-building and it will repay any effort. Not until it is done, and effectively, finally done, can the human soul take its proper place, rise to its God-given dominion, and progress to higher and yet higher planes of power. - Orison Swett Marden. We have talked about fear before, describing it as a thief who steals not only your goods, but your future as well. But fear is not the kind of guy who gives up without a fight. Being stripped of one mask, he grabs a new one and sneaks in by another way. Any crevice will do, really. Like a cockroach, he will slither through a space that seems impermeable. Worst of all, for many of us, he has taken up residence in our hearts and minds with run-of-the-house privileges.. This is true for me. Like kids everywhere, I was raised by Nanny Fear. It is said that babies are born with only two fears-heights and loud noises. If not innate, fear of abandonment must be learned early on. ...
Natural News) What do fear and excitement have in common? Experts reveal, in an article by the Daily Mail, that the fight-or-flight response triggered by fear can become a rush of excitement under a different situation.. Fear is a fundamental emotion experienced by all complex organisms against perceived danger or threat to their physical being or existence. However, some of the chemicals responsible for the fight-or-flight response also trigger the more positive emotional states in humans such as happiness and excitement. This explains why we feel a certain rush when we intentionally give ourselves a scare.. Studies suggest that context is a major factor in how we perceive and experience fear. During Halloween for instance, your brain recognizes that the scary people and things around you are intentional and meant as a make-believe, quickly adjusting this experience into enjoyment. On the other hand, if a stranger suddenly chases you into a dark alley, your brain will perceive it as a ...
1 John 4:18 (NCV)Where Gods love is, there is no fear, because Gods perfect love drives out fear. It is punishment that makes a person fear, so love is not made perfect in the person who fears. If we say we love God but have fear or worry His love is not perfected in us. We do not know Him well enough. Father, may Your love be perfected in them to cast out all fear.God created each of us with the ability to choose to serve Him or not He does not make us serve Him. Satan will be around until Jesus returns for His people. We chose to serve God or Satan; we chose to do things Gods way or Satans way. Jesus defeated Satan and took away his power to harm us but we can allow him to harm us by letting sin in our lives, we open the door to Satan when we sin and fear. Fear is torment if we fear we are giving Satan power in our lives. God said fear not because He is always with us and has made a way for us in every situation. Fear comes from believing the lies of Satan and allowing him access to us. ...

Fear is a graded central motive state ranging from mild to intense. As threat intensity increases, fear transitions from discriminative to generalized. The circuit mechanisms that process threats of different intensity are not well resolved. Here, we isolate a unique population of locally projecting neurons in the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA) that produce the neuropeptide corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF). CRF-producing neurons and CRF in the CeA are required for discriminative fear, but both are dispensable for generalized fear at high US intensities.
Answer true or false:. o I get anxious in most situations where I have to stop and wait, for example, stoplights, standing in line at the grocery store.. o I avoid or am afraid of traveling on public transportation, trains, buses, commercial jets.. o It´s uncomfortable for me to be in a closed-in place or in a crowd of people.. o I often feel trapped by something in my life situation, such as my job, marriage, family responsibilities, health, or debt.. o It´s difficult for me to make a long-term commitment to someone or something.. The fear of confinement runs through a number of different phobias including: fear of flying, fear of elevators, fear of crowded public places, fear of small enclosed places (claustrophobia), and fear of being stuck anywhere in traffic, bridges, tunnels, or riding on public transportation. Of all of the types of fear, I believe that fear of confinement most frequently disguises an underlying fear of something else, what some psychologists would call a displaced ...
This article briefly reviews the science of learned fear and its implications for fear disorders, such as post-traumatic stress. It is by Fred Westbrook and Nathan Holmes from the School of Psychology at the University of New South Wales.
BACKGROUND: Depression is associated with neural abnormalities in emotional processing. AIMS: This study explored whether these abnormalities underlie risk for depression. METHOD: We compared the neural responses of volunteers who were at high and low-risk for the development of depression (by virtue of high and low neuroticism scores; high-N group and low-N group respectively) during the presentation of fearful and happy faces using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). RESULTS: The high-N group demonstrated linear increases in response in the right fusiform gyrus and left middle temporal gyrus to expressions of increasing fear, whereas the low-N group demonstrated the opposite effect. The high-N group also displayed greater responses in the right amygdala, cerebellum, left middle frontal and bilateral parietal gyri to medium levels of fearful v. happy expressions. CONCLUSIONS: Risk for depression is associated with enhanced neural responses to fearful facial expressions similar to those
The UTAS Psychology Clinic will be running a free four-session program entitled Fear of Flying from August 2.. Aerophobia is a specific phobia or fear of flying and is characterised by an intense feeling of panic and threat when confronted with situations in relation to flight.. Dr Caroline Schwerkolt, from the UTAS School of Psychology, said aerophobia can be isolating, preventing people from travel and enjoying experiences with their friends and family abroad.. It can also impact work and career opportunities; this impact is even greater when living in remote locations such as Tasmania,. The Fear of Flying program will aim to help people understand the causes of their anxiety, discuss it in a safe forum, and learn coping and relaxation strategies to help them overcome their fear.. The program will be coordinated by two psychology Interns and will feature an experienced pilot, Gus Vans-Colina, who has over 18,000 hours of commercial flying time.. Gus will be on hand to answer questions and ...
Exposure to chronic stress is a risk factor for cognitive decline and psychopathology in genetically predisposed individuals. Preliminary evidence in humans suggests that mineralocorticoid receptors (MRs) may confer resilience to these stress-related changes. We specifically tested this idea using a well-controlled mouse model for chronic stress in combination with transgenic MR overexpression in the forebrain. Exposure to unpredictable stressors for 21 days in adulthood reduced learning and memory formation in a low arousing hippocampus-dependent contextual learning task, but enhanced stressful contextual fear learning. We found support for a moderating effect of MR background on chronic stress only for contextual memory formation under low arousing conditions. In an attempt to understand potentially contributing factors, we studied structural plasticity. Chronic stress altered dendritic morphology in the hippocampal CA3 area and reduced the total number of doublecortin-positive immature ...

Consistent with prior research, BII phobics reported greater disgust sensitivity than non-phobic participants even after controlling for between group differences in anxiety symptoms. Results from the evaluative conditioning experiment indicated that pre- to posttest increases in fear ratings were only marginally greater for phobic compared to non-phobic participants. However, increases in disgust from pre- ...
In 1995, a scientific paper was published for the first time evaluating the prevalence of needle fear and its effect on accessing health care. Since then, studies suggest that the fear of needles is rising, afflicting a quarter of adults and two out of three children.. Needle phobia seems to be more likely in people who are sensitive to a light touch and sharp objects, particularly those with the red head pain MC1R gene. While most people acquire needle phobia around age four to six, about three to five percent of people have a genetic predisposition to become lightheaded or nauseated or even to faint.. But whether acquired or innate, fear not! Quite literally - here are nine ways to reduce the pain and fear of needing a needle at any age.. 1. Pain Management. When time permits, needle pain can be greatly reduced by using topical pain relief - specifically, topical anesthetic numbing creams and gels - which numb the skin in 20-60 minutes. Fun tip: use Glad® Press-N-Seal rather than the ...
Several cases of single repeat offenders in urban space have raised public concern in Sweden during recent decades. Few studies have been conducted on consequences of the kind of hostage situations that emerge when one individual offender causes fear and affects a larger group of people in a specific place. The concern of this thesis is to examine consequences of the Haga Man phenomenon: the case of a serial rapist operating between 1998 and 2006 in Umeå, a medium-sized Swedish city. This thesis explores some of the ways not only women but also men in Umeå responded to this specific situation, the threat from a single repeat offender, and how fear of crime and changing public crime discourses influenced gendered power relations. The thesis examines different aspects of fear and safety in public space, such as the views of those who are fearful; of those who are feared; perceptions of both womens and mens bodies; their emotions and experiences in relation to fear of violence in public ...
From monsters under the bed to bogeymen in the closet, most children experience nighttime fears at some point in their development. And while most grow out of them without any professional intervention, others contend with persistent and extended periods of these fears, with a risk of developing anxiety problems later in life.. As part of a large-scale project on nighttime fears funded by the Israeli Science Foundation, Prof. Avi Sadeh of Tel Aviv Universitys School of Psychological Sciences is exploring how these fears fit into the normal developmental process - and when they become a problem. Together with Dr. Jonathan Kushnir, who completed his Ph.D. studies in the field in Prof. Sadehs lab, MA student Tamar Zisenwine, and Ph.D. student Michal Kaplan, he discovered that a childs ability to differentiate fact from fiction has a huge impact on overcoming terror of things that go bump in the night.. In their study, published in Child Psychiatry and Human Development, the researchers found ...
Cognitive Restructuring Cognitive restructuring entails identifying the negative and false beliefs and thought patterns that underlie your fear of snakes. An example might be the idea that snakes are slimy, or that they like to kill humans. Writing about your fear of snakes, or taking the time to meditate upon it and question yourself as to the reasons behind your fear, are good ways of identifying the specific beliefs and thought patterns that escalate your stress. Once you have identified them, you can directly address them by discovering whether or not they are based in objectivity and replacing them with true, positive beliefs and thought patterns that will decrease rather than increase your levels of fear next time you encounter a snake ...

Well, Jordan was born a big, strong, healthy boy! I also came through just fine. But then the fear of something terrible happening to him began to bother me; eventually I was totally consumed by it. I had no peace or joy in my life. One day I was so sick and tired of this oppression that I yelled out loud, Spirit of fear get out of here NOW! Nothing seemed to have happened except that I noticed a weird taste in my mouth. And then a thought came to me, This is just an opportunity to learn how to walk in victory. As I began to speak those words I felt both strength and freedom! It was then I realized: that bad taste in my mouth was actually the deliverance from the spirit of fear, and God had set me free from it! Today Jordan is my precious reminder of when I was set free from fear. The goldfinch? It is a reminder of Gods great love and closeness to me. Depression is yet another demon I have had to deal with throughout my life. Crazy as it sounds- I never was able to recognize it as ...
Every practitioner of the healing arts is offering up their favorite tips and guidance, to combat this most recent Coronavirus epidemic that is taking the world by storm, and crashing the economy. I have been thinking that I should do the same, offer up my knowledge to save the world, to be one up against this latest virus, to beat death to the door. Thats the biggest fear, isnt it? Of dying, getting obliterated from this earth, second only to pain and getting hurt. And, there is always some impending catastrophe that seems to be hanging in the air over our heads. I thought Id offer up my reflections instead. But, before I got down to expressing any of it on my blog, this beautiful piece of writing showed up in my inbox, by none other than famous homeopath Roland Guenther, on Being Seen. Please read it. Just perfect.. In it, Roland writes, The remedy for fear is not courage. The remedy for fear is connection, it is not being alone in fear. YES. Its the best and perhaps the only way to deal ...

Comparison of work-related fear-avoidance beliefs across different anatomical locations with musculoskeletal pain Corey B Simon¹, Sandra E Stryker², Steven Z George³1Department of Physical Therapy, College of Public Health and Health Professions, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA; 2Life’s Work Physical Therapy, Portland, Oregon, USA; 3Department of Physical Therapy and Center for Pain Research and Behavioral Health, College of Public Health and Health Professions, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USABackground: The influence of work-related fear-avoidance on pain and function has been consistently reported for patients with musculoskeletal low back pain. Emerging evidence suggests similar influences exist for other anatomical locations of musculoskeletal pain, such as the cervical spine and extremities. However, research is limited in comparing work-related fear-avoidance and associations with clinical outcomes across different anatomical locations. The
I found this wing suit video after the recent base jump death in Zion last week and have noticed similarities in fear. When they jump off for the first few seconds, the free fall is the scariest part above the cliffs just before their wings get filled with air. As the flight levels out, fear levels reduce as the feeling has become adjusted to. Its similar to our fears in surgical decision, where many would say, no way am I jumping off a cliff, but then some of us have to.... The flight
that I dont have to choose based on fear. That doesnt mean pretending they dont exist. Thats denial, and its unhealthy.. It means confronting fear. I name them, face them, and refuse to allow them to dictate my action. Theres a lot of freedom in that.. My friend Scott offered this insight. He said that perhaps God leaves two doors open at times because He wants me to choose. I realized that God may not always care whether I pick A or B or A&B, but He cares a lot that I dont decide based on fear.. My friend Dick Foth said something in a sermon that helped. Paraphrasing, he said that God will let you know if He has a specific direction for you. And if you dont hear that sort of guidance, then trust Him and do whatevers in front of you. He quoted Oswald Chambers, who was asked how to follow Jesus. Trust God, and take the next step.. Maybe thats the lesson in this dilemma. Maybe there isnt always a right answer. Maybe sometimes God opens two doors and says, Both are fine. Ill bless ...
I find it helps to remember that there is fear-based fear and love-based fear just as there is fear-based love and love-based love. When we avoid being hit by a car by moving out of its path, that is love-based fear. However, when we avoid intimacy or dont allow ourselves to be surrounded by fear because we are afraid of being hurt, that is an example of fear-based fear.. Fear often stops us from being loving and experiencing love. Being fearless allows us to love in a much less conditional manner. Just for today, or at least for a short while, notice your fear. Play with your fear rather than being overwhelmed by it. Remember fear causes us to forget the truth, that we are all one with god and that the only thing that is real is love, everything else is an illusion. With love and aloha ...
In the present study, we investigated the morphological and molecular changes in astrocytes based on our hypothesis that these changes are accompanied by long-term memory induction in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus. We exposed Fvb/n mice to contextual fear conditioning, and checked for morphological and molecular changes in astrocytes. We found that 1 h after fear conditioning, type II and type III astrocytes exhibit a unique status with an increased number of processes and decreased protein level of GFAP which differ from the typical resting or reactive states. The reactive state of astrocyte is known to show increased GFAP expression level [33]. However, our results showed that hippocampus-based contextual memory induced increased intersections of type II and type III astrocytes but decreased GFAP protein levels were observed. In addition, we also found that the protein levels of EAAT2 and Cx43 were increased. Previously, it has been reported that physical exercise improved learning and ...
