Cause I was stuck a bit with the OpenCL conversion I tried manually creating a multi-stage classifier to verify it would work. Given a set of training data I trained a classifier, and then used that to partition the training data - very good true positives or negatives were removed. I then repeated this 3 more times. The final negative data set consists of just 52 images that are very eye-like in the LBP domain: bits of mouth and under the nose. I started with about 4000 negative images and 1000 positive images. For a fitness score I was maximising the number of false positives with a score better than the worst true positive. This created an ROC curve that rises relatively slowly to start with but keeps rising to a full-pass rate at a fairly low FPR (false positive rate). In this study using real-world data from the largest single site hospital in England, parenteral antimicrobials were prescribed to six percent of patients attending the ED and 23 % of patients admitted to hospital. Blood cultures were obtained from less than one-third of patients who were treated with parenteral antimicrobials at emergency admission to hospital and a micro-organism was identified in just 12 % of patients who had a blood culture. Abstract: Objective Our objective is to use the area of the motor evoked potential (MEP) as a diagnostic tool for intraoperative radicular injury. Methods We analyzed the intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring data and clinical outcomes of 203 patients treated for dorsolumbar spine deformity. The decrease in amplitude was compared with the reduction in the MEP area. Results In 11 cases, new intraoperative injuries occurred, nine of them were lumbar radiculopathies. Our new criteria, a decrease MEP area of 70%, yielded a sensitivity and specificity of 1, since it detected all the radicular injuries, with no false positive cases. Using a 70% amplitude decrease criteria, we obtained a sensitivity of 0,89 and a specificity of 0,99. A lower threshold (65% amplitude reduction) yielded a higher number of false positives, whereas a higher threshold (75 and 80%) gave rise to a higher number of false negatives. Before I get to translating this to the PSA data, I want to say that I find the second paragraph in the Results section quite problematic. It tells me how many of the PSA tests were positive, how many screenings on average each man underwent, what percentage of those with a positive test underwent a biopsy, and how many of those biopsies turned up cancer. What I cannot tell from this is precisely how many of the men had a false positive test and still had to undergo a biopsy -- the denominators in this paragraph shape-shift from tests to men. The best I can do is estimate: 136,689 screening tests, of which 16.6% (15,856) were positive. Dividing this by 2.27 average tests per subject yields 6,985 men with a positive PSA screen, of whom 6,963 had a biopsy-proven prostate cancer.
