The purpose of this case study is to reveal prospective science teachers knowledge and achievement levels in electricity-related subjects. The data for the study were collected from 44 prospective teachers using three measurement tools. The data were then analyzed using software developed for the Probability and Possibility Calculation Statistics for Data Variables method, developed by Yilmaz (2011). It was concluded that prospective science teachers achievement levels in mathematical logic in electricity-related subjects are influenced by their achievement levels in physics and basic mathematical procedures, as well as their knowledge levels. However, it was observed that the main influence on their achievement level in mathematical logic is the logical structure of knowledge, and not the knowledge level in the variables

Abstract: The use of ICTs in the teaching and learning process has become a necessity due to the potentials technology has in this digital era. Despite the merits of ICT incorporation in the classroom, there are still barriers or challenges that hinder successful ICT integration. One of these challenges is teachers practices ofassessment. Assessment plays a crucial role in student learning. However, a few researches have been conducted on the problematic use of ICT in assessing students learning. This study aims at investigating Moroccan EFL teachers attitudes and use of ICTs to assess students performance. To achieve the objectives of the study, an online survey is administered to Moroccan High School Teachers of English. The findings reveal that teachers attitudes towards the use of ICTs as assessment tools are positive. On the other hand, findings show that there is scarce, if not any, use of these technologies to assess students learning.

The International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 calls on all governments, education providers and funders - public and private - to recognise the critical roles that teachers play in the COVID-19 response and recovery. Call to action by the International Task Force on Teachers. As of 25 March, 165 countries have closed all their schools because of the COVID-19 virus, affecting nearly 1.5 billion students and 63 million primary and secondary school teachers. This number is predicted to rise. The closures pose unprecedented challenges for education systems throughout the world. This global health crisis threatens to significantly slow progress towards many of the global goals, in particular, the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all). It is also likely to exacerbate the global learning crisis and global education inequalities as the impacts will fall disproportionately on the ...
48 Hours had a report a couple of weeks ago about a girl who was preyed on by a male teacher. She confided in a female teacher. Instead of turning in the male teacher, the female teacher began sexually molesting the girl. It went on for years. The teacher even snuck into the girls house to have sex. The girl was afraid to say anything to anyone. Finally the girl turned 18, graduated and got the courage to end it. She filed charges, and the female teacher got FOUR years. The male teacher, meanwhile, was turned in by other girls and was prosecuted also. Sick.. ...

Teachers are among the very most important factors in the success of students. This data includes educators who have earned professional licenses and teach in classrooms - regular classroom teachers, special education teachers, and resource teachers (specialists in subject areas or special education who work in multiple classrooms). Research has shown clearly that students learn better with teachers who know their subject areas well, hold regular professional licenses, and have more experience. A variety of circumstances can result in teachers being assigned to classrooms with Emergency or Provisional licenses or who are early in their teaching careers.. ...
I started editing the first opinion piece, but I stopped because I had some fundamental issues with the argument. First of all, I dont think you are commenting on K-12 teachers, because why should an elementary school teacher be a professional mathematician to teach 3rd grade level math. You are really speaking about high school level math and science teachers. But even so I am not convinced that a high school teacher needs to be a professional engineer working for Boeing or a programmer working for Google to be effective. I agree that a greater amount of training should be required of high school level math and science teachers, but how can we expect them to also have professional careers outside of being a full-time teacher? Im actually not entirely sure what your argument is. I think you make a more effective argument about the American desire for immediate money/power/gratification. But this isnt the same argument as what you begin the piece with. My personal belief is that Americans are ...

The background to this study is the large number of students who fail to finish upper secondary school with passing grades. The overall aim of this study was to examine one parameter in the didactic interaction between teachers and students, namely differences and similarities in learning styles. This study therefore compares teachers and students learning styles profiles in the two major orientations in upper secondary school. The study involved 53 secondary school teachers and 101 high school students who were randomly selected. The learning styles assessment PEPS was used to identify 20 different traits. Three groups were compared and analysed by using an F-test and an analysis of variance (ANOVA). The statistical analysis showed that the teachers have a greater need for light and temperature, are more motivated, more conformist, have less need for structure and authority and are more alert in the morning and less in the afternoon compared with the students. The two student

I was born on 25th March 1993 in Plauen, a rather small town in the Free State of Saxony mainly famous for its production of chemical lace (called Plauen lace) and the German cartoonist Erich Ohser and his strip Vater und Sohn (Father and Son). After graduating from Gymnasium in 2011, I moved from my hometown to Halle/Saale and started studying Chemistry and Physics to become a secondary school teacher. Near the end of my teachers studies I started working in the research group of Prof Dariush Hinderberger to examine the formation of small, colloid-like ionic clusters in solution, also referred to as Ionoids. After receiving my first state examination for teachers at the beginning of 2016, I pursued these studies throughout my PhD from April 2016 till December 2019.. Since the beginning of 2020, I started working as a Research Associate at Imperial College. The matter of who should be selected for teacher preparation Teaching in Ireland is an all-graduate profession, with the number of places on courses limited by the State Higher Education Authority, in collaboration with the State Department of Education and Science. As in countries such as Austria, Australia, the Czech Republic, England, Finland, Israel, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Slovak Republic, Sweden and Wales, both consecutive and concurrent models in secondary teacher preparation operate (OECD, 2005). The consecutive model comprises a programme of professional training in pedagogy and teaching, usually taken after having first completed a primary degree in a discipline related to the subjects which will subsequently be taught in schools. The majority of those studying to be secondary school teachers in Ireland are enrolled in courses ...

Many of my German high school teachers were intellectual remnants of the 68er movement. They had either been part of the 1968 anti-authoritarian and left-wing student protests in Germany or they had been deeply influenced by them. The movement gradually fizzled out and the students took on seemingly bourgeois jobs in the 1970s as civil servants, bank accountants or high school teachers, but their muted revolutionary spirit remained on the whole intact. Some high school teachers used the flexibility of the German high school curriculum to infuse us with the revolutionary ideals of the 68ers. For example, instead of delving into Charles Dickens in our English classes, we read excerpts of the book The Feminine Mystique written by the American feminist Betty Friedan.. Our high school level discussion of the book barely scratched the surface of the complex issues related to womens rights and their portrayal by the media, but it introduced me to the concept of a mystique. The book pointed out ...
The teacher as a socializing agent with competence to promote social goals is not mentioned among students of education portraying an ideal teacher (1). However, the teacher has great responsibility for teacher-student relationships in classrooms. Also non-verbal behaviours have impact (2). Understanding teacher behaviour encompasses socio-communicative style e.g. a willingness to listen to students. The instructional outcomes including students interest towards both the teacher and the course content was shown to rely on collective communication behaviours (3). Teachers social and emotional competences develop supportive relationships and management of the classroom and thereby increasing effectiveness and reducing stress (4). A meta-analysis on learner-centred teacher-students relationships pointed out a number of personal teacher variables. Among the individual teacher characteristics nondirective style, empathy and warmth were associated with student outcomes. The largest association was ...

National and international standards documents are calling for science teachers to teach their students how to engage in the practices of science. Previous studies have found that most science teachers do not have the knowledge and skill to do this because they have not had experience engaging authentically in science. One way to overcome this problem is for science teachers to participate in short-term Research Experiences for Teachers. However, few studies have looked at teachers learning of science skills and practices in such experiences, and almost all have relied primarily on data self-reported by the teachers. In our previous studies we found that there is good reason to find these self-reported data suspect. Therefore, in this study we investigated the low calibration of teachers self-reports of their abilities to engage in research skills and practices and their abilities as measured by knowledgeable others, and here we suggest several reasons for this low calibration.. 22.02.2019, ...

This thesis presents the findings of an exploration of teacher perceptions and actions to conserve wetlands in Kenya. It reports findings of a case study survey done with 54 primary school teachers from seven of eight Kenyan provinces. The teachers were sampled from a larger group of 242 teachers who participated in an in-service course on wetlands conservation. The in-service course engaged teachers in exploring various aspects of wetlands and how they could enhance their conservation using both formal and non-formal contexts. The survey approach was used in the research and was augmented with a reflective process. Survey tools used were the questionnaires and interviews. The reflective process entailed observation, document analysis, field notes and the researchers diary. Research data was analysed in several stages. The study revealed that teachers were users of local wetlands just like other members of their communities. The teachers differed among themselves with respect to their ...
Epidemiologic studies of the association between nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen, and breast cancer risk have yielded inconsistent results. We investigated the association of NSAID use with risk of breast cancer in the California Teachers Study cohort, with special attention to risk of specific breast cancer subtypes and to type of NSAID used.We analyzed data on 114 460 women in the California Teachers Study cohort who were aged 22 to 85 years and free of breast cancer at baseline in 1995 to 1996. Information on frequency and duration of NSAID use was collected through a self-administered questionnaire. A total of 2391 women were diagnosed with breast cancer during the follow-up period from 1995 to 2001. We used Cox proportional hazards regression to estimate relative risks (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) of breast cancer subtypes with NSAID use.Neither regular use (more than once a week) of any NSAID (aspirin and ibuprofen combined) nor ...

Abstract: Transition from preschool to elementary school can be difficult, especially for children that have not acquired school readiness skills. The preschool life skills (PLS) program was first developed as a class-wide teaching program, teaching typically developing preschool children important social and communication skills (Hanley, Heal, Tiger, & Ingvarsson, 2007). The aim of this study was to examine the impact of systematic teaching of school readiness skills in a preschool in Iceland. First, we compared the view of preschool and elementary school teachers in Iceland on important school readiness skills. Next, we translated the PLS program into Icelandic and adapted it to those skills that Icelandic teachers thought to be important. Finally, we implemented PLS in a preschool in Iceland for children who were starting first grade in elementary school in the fall of 2018. Results from the survey showed that both preschool and elementary school teachers in Iceland viewed instruction ...

The aim of this research is to explore the everyday narratives for two year 5 teachers in a primary school when asked to implement a lifelong learning project into their classroom. Teachers have few opportunities to pause and reflect on their professional practice, so the two year 5 teachers were highly motivated to engage with the research given that the Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory (ELLI) was being piloted in their classes. With this purpose, I undertook a narrative approach. There was also a strong rationale behind providing the teachers with a space in which to have a reflective conversation to allow their narratives to be told. This came from an underlying concept within ELLI, that students have the opportunity to reflect upon their own learning and yet it is not naturally inbuilt for the teachers. The teacher participants constructed a narrative over time as they explored both the negative and positive aspects of implementing a lifelong learning project. In my analysis I was ...
The purpose of this study was to examine the development of students with different exercise backgrounds during their primary school teacher education, specifically in terms of their identity as teachers and PE teachers. The study is based on a constructivist perception of knowledge and a social constructivist view of learning. The study is narrative and the authors voice comes through in the study. The author served in a dual role as a researcher and a university teacher for the students... The study has two parts. The first part comprises an examination of exercise biographies, that is, primary school teacher students descriptions of their personal exercise-related experiences (N = 57, a total of 570 A4 pages). These were examined at the beginning of their teacher education. The biographies were analysed in order to identify typical ways of reporting exercise-related experiences (athlete types). The exercise biographies revealed seven athlete types: (1) competitors, (2) hard workers, (3) ...
The Comoros has a university called the University of Comoros.[2] Teacher training and other specialized courses are available at the MVouni School for Higher Education, in operation since 1981 at a site near Moroni. Few Comoran teachers study overseas, but the republic often cannot give its teachers all the training they need. Some international aid has been provided, however, to further teacher training in the islands themselves. For example, in 1987 the IDA extended credits worth US$7.9 million to train 3,000 primary and 350 secondary school teachers. In 1986 the government began opening technology training centers offering a three-year diploma program at the upper secondary level. The Ministry of National Education and Professional Training is responsible for education policy.[1] As elsewhere in Comoran society, political instability has taken a toll on the education system. Routinely announced reductions in force among the civil service, often made in response to international pressure for ...

The Great Smoky Mountains are known as the Salamander Capital of the World! Salamanders are an especially abundant and diverse group in the Great Smokies. There are 30 species of salamanders within the boundaries of the Park. Since salamanders breathe through their skin they are more susceptible to water and air pollution. During this study, high school students will work in groups to collect and record data in taking an inventory in monitoring many of the salamanders found in the park. The field trip packet includes pre, onsite, and post-visit activities.. ...
A: Laughter functions as a kind of social signal-like a smile or scowl. Indeed, studies have shown that people are 30 times more likely to laugh in social settings than when they are alone. Even nitrous oxide (laughing gas) loses much of its potency if taken in solitude. While we dont fully understand the neurochemistry of laughter, we may have found the laughter button at least in one girl. In 1998 doctors at UCLA reported that they were able to make a 16-year-old girl laugh by stimulating a tiny region in her left frontal lobe. They were testing her with an electrode to try to find the source of her epileptic seizures. When they stimulated the small region with an electrical current, the girl burst out laughing. She was asked to perform various tasks, like naming objects, reading, counting, and extending her forearms, but despite the different activities, she consistently laughed when the same area was stimulated. Even more interesting was that, although the girls laughter was being ...

Every year, young workers are critically injured or killed on the job. Statistics show they are more likely to get injured on the first 4 weeks on a new job than their more senior counterparts. The new CCOHS toolkit contains more than 200 pages of safety information, tips, classroom activities, handouts and quizzes, as well as a companion CD of accompanying slides in PowerPoint and PDF formats, for use as student handouts. Teaching Tools is divided into five chapters covering the major topic areas of workplace health and safety that are likely to impact young workers: chemical hazards, ergonomics, physical hazards, biological hazards and sociability issues.. The information provided within this toolkit is based on best practice principles and techniques. Its purpose is to provide guidance on young worker safety, rather than prescribe specific requirements, the CCOHS said.. Secondary school teachers can play a vital role in developing awareness of workplace health and safety issues in young ...
This study, conducted in Chile in 1964, included four different samples: Sample A, containing young people 12-14 years of age, Sample B, made up of respondents 16-22 years of age, Sample C, comprising adults, and Sample D, composed of primary and secondary school teachers. The study was undertaken to assess attitudes toward jobs and education in children and young adults, whose future was yet undecided, and in working adults in general and teachers in particular, whose occupations and educations were already established. Variables measured the respondents highest educational and occupational aspirations in comparison with realistic appraisals of their jobs at the time of the interview and what they might be doing in the future. The study further explored important factors in deciding upon an occupation, as well as the advantages enjoyed by an educated person. Respondents in Samples B, C, and D were asked to evaluate certain goals of the Chilean education system, their desirability, and the ...
Im going to be piloting a teenage yoga class on Thursday August 30th at 10-11.15 am at the Share Centre on Stow Hill in Newport with a view to starting a regular Thursday session at 4pm. This is aimed at 12-17 year olds. ( Secondary school children). As a yoga teacher, secondary school teacher of over 18 years and a mother of a 12 year old daughter looming on teenage territory, teen yoga is something that Im becoming more drawn to and want to champion in and outside of schools. Mindfulness is already infiltrating primary schools around the country and yoga is simply this but you use the body to help you focus on the present.. Whether practising as adults or children, yoga has the same benefit, only the teenage mind is still developing and this is the time to give it those tools which we adults have been desperately striving for. Have a look at the following link to give you an insight into the adolescent brain: The life Centre .. Whether teaching adults or children my approach to yoga is one ...
