Director General of the Institute, Dr. Melese Maryo on the opening of the discussion forum, said Ethiopias large-scale domestic animal resource is losing because of different reason such as mixed with other sub-species, drought,, and so on.. So, by settling the problem, we must keep the wealth safe and benefit from it, he noted.. To provide this National Strategy and Plan of Action for Conservation and Sustainable Utilization of domestic Animal Genetic Resources has been introduced since last year to integrate tasks and performing successful activities, Dr. Melese added.. The Director General remarked the strategy, which will be last ten years, Members of the National Advisory Committee and experts are expected to work together to ensure the sustainable use of biodiversity and to achieve the goals set out in the strategy.. Childhood immunization recommendations and schedules may vary by province and territory. Immunizations are recommended because they protect against diseases (give immunity) or make a disease less severe if your child does get it. These schedules outline the immunizations and booster shots needed from birth through age 18, as well as when catch-up immunizations should be given.. The schedule for a premature infant is the same as for a full-term infant. But sometimes the hepatitis B vaccine is delayed. Many immunizations require more than one dose, given at varying intervals. Although your child does not need to restart the series if a scheduled dose is missed, the immunization should be given as soon as possible. Consult your health professional or public health unit if your child missed an immunization or to find out whether your child needs a specific immunization. The Canadian National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends a specific childhood immunization schedule, but ...

In my last post, I discussed the growing number of choices for plasma replacement. Today Ill look at some work that was done that tried to determine if any one of them is better than the others when used for the massive transfusion protocol (MTP).. As noted last time, fresh frozen plasma (frozen within 8 hours, FFP) and frozen plasma (frozen within 24 hours, FP) have a shelf life of 5 days once thawed. Liquid plasma (never frozen, LQP) is good for the 21 days after the original unit was donated, plus the same 5 days, for a total of 26 days.. LQP is not used at most US trauma centers. It is more commonly used in Europe, and a study there suggested that the use of thawed plasma increased short term mortality when compared to liquid plasma. To look at this phenomenon more closely, a group from UTHSC Houston and LSU measured hemostatic profiles on both types of plasma at varying times during their useful life.. All products were analyzed with thromboelastography (TEG) and thrombogram, and platelet ...
The authors present a retrospective, observational study of the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) with a massive transfusion protocol (MTP). The study delineates that PPH is a rare condition, often associated with coagulopathy, and the authors claim that the MTP was associated with favorable hematological indices, as evaluated with conventional coagulation tests. The data, however, indicate that most of the PPH patients were severely coagulopathic during the resuscitation phase and this questions the conclusions somewhat. The authors suggest that outcome studies are needed and this is correct.. - Pär Johansson. ...
Hypothesis A massive transfusion protocol (MTP) decreases the use of blood components, as well as turnaround times, costs, and mortality. Design Retrospective before-and-after cohort study. Setting Academic level I urban trauma center. Patients and Methods Blood component use was compared in 132 patients during a 2-year period following the implementation of an MTP; 46 patients who were treated the previous year served as historical control subjects. Intervention Introduction of an MTP that included recombinant factor VIIa for patients with exsanguinating hemorrhage. Main Outcome Measures The amount of each blood component transfused, turnaround times, blood bank and hospital charges, and mortality rates. Results After introduction of the MTP, there was a significant decrease in packed red blood cells, plasma, and platelet use. The turnaround time for the first shipment was less than 10 minutes, and the time between the first and second shipments was reduced from 42 to 18 minutes, compared with

Author: Laura Eggertson. Provinces weighing the merits of implementing the National Advisory Committee on Immunizations recommendation to offer human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to boys and men aged 9-26 are facing a tricky trade-off between benefits and costs.. I think the benefits are there, but the costs are high, which is a crucial issue for publicly funded programs, says Dr. Monika Naus, medical director of immunization programs and vaccine-preventable diseases for the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization last month recommended extending the human papillomavirus vaccine to boys and men aged 9 to 26 for the prevention of anal intraepithelial neoplasia (AIN) grades 1, 2, and 3, anal cancer, and anogenital warts. The move followed on the heels of an October 2011 recommendation from United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory panel recommendation that HPV vaccine be given to boys aged 11-12 to ward off genital ...

In designing a resuscitation strategy that is beneficial it is important to recognize that certain lethal injuries can be defined. These include severe head injuries, life threatening airway injuries, significant chest injuries to the heart and great vessels with exsanguination, massively disruptive abdominal visceral injuries with exsanguination and injuries with significant exsanguinating retroperitoneal bleeding such as massive pelvic fractures. Resuscitation aimed at these patients will unlikely be associated with improved outcomes.

In eleven dogs made hypotensive by means of rapid exsanguination over a period of forty to seventy minutes, mean glucagon rose to a peak of 516 ± (S.E.) 150 pg/ml. and mean glucose to a peak of 341 ± 27 mg. per 100 ml. The hyperglucagonemia induced by exsanguination was substantially reduced, although not abolished, by propranolol infusion, but was not diminished by phentolamine, suggesting that it was largely a β-adrenergic effect. Orthopaedic surgeon Stephen I. Esses, MD, who practices in Houston, Texas, and chair of the workgroup that developed this guideline said the group reached their conclusion after methodically reviewing the literature, over a process of several years.. Its very important to understand that we went into this without any preconceived notions or preferences, and we all agreed that the practice of medicine has to be based on science, and not anecdotal information, Dr. Esses stated. When you look at the science and research to-date, there is very strong Level 1 evidence to suggest that vertebroplasty does not provide the types of benefits that it was previously thought to provide.. Level 1 evidence refers to studies done under the strictest scientific guidelines, including blinding randomization.. The recommendation against this procedure is largely based on two randomized, controlled clinical trials that were published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). According to the work group ...

October 2011 - The World Health Organization has recommended that, in the Northern Hemisphere, the 2011-12 influenza vaccine contain the same three viral strains as those used in 2010-11. If their prediction of circulating strains is reliable, many Canadians, through previous exposure to the infection or the vaccine, will already be immune. If the prediction is faulty, the new vaccine will have little or no efficacy.. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) contends that, Even when the vaccine strains have not changed, as in 2011-2012, annual immunization reinforces optimal protection. However, knowing the dismal efficacy of the flu shot and the fact that influenza comprises only about 10% of all flu-like illness experienced by Canadians, one wonders how optimal the reinforcement would be.. An interesting question to ask is why has there been little change in the circulating viruses since last influenza season? Viral populations generally survive either by a great ability to ...

Update on vaccine interchangeability (vaccine mixing): The online booking system will now display which mRNA vaccine is being offered at each clinic. Residents are able to book appointments, or reschedule their second dose appointment (external link) and select a clinic offering either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine at the time of booking. This means that residents who received an mRNA vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as their first dose, are able to choose to book an appointment to receive the same or a different mRNA vaccine for their second dose through our online booking system. This follows recent recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) (external PDF) and additional guidance from Ontarios Chief Medical Officer of Health regarding the interchangeability of mRNA vaccines. Please note: While residents now have the option to choose their vaccine type, Halton Region Public Health cannot guarantee which vaccine residents will receive at the time of their ...

Is Too Much Crystalloid a Bad Thing?. All trauma centers have massive transfusion protocols, and they typically spell out the approximate ratios of blood to plasma to platelets. But they do not address the use (or overuse) of crystalloid during these large volume resuscitations.. A multicenter, prospective study was carried out looking at the outcomes after resuscitation from hemorrhagic shock using massive transfusion (at least 10u PRBC in 24 hrs). The patients were severely injured (average ISS 34), and overall mortality and incidence of multi-organ failure was 21% and 65%, respectively. The median amount of crystalloid given was 17 liters, and median red cell transfusion was 14 units in 24 hours.. The authors found that if the crystalloid to PRBC ratio exceeded 1.5:1, morbidity increased significantly. The incidence of multiple organ failure doubled, ARDS tripled, and abdominal compartment quintupled! The authors suggested further research, and did not provide specific strategies for ...

A device for exsanguination from the hand and/or arm is described. In one embodiment, the device includes a gripping portion gripped by the hand of a patient holding the device. There is a cupped portion, and a roll of elastic wrapping material. The cupped portion has an inner space for receiving the roll and a slot for feeding out a length of wrap from the roll. The wrap material is fed out of the slot and wrapped around the hand of the patient so that the constrictive force pushes the blood out. A tourniquet is then applied and the wrap removed. In another embodiment, the device has a gripping portion with an end that is slotted to receive and anchor an end of a roll of wrapping material. With an end anchored, the material is unrolled and wrapped from the anchored end down around the hand gripping the device.

In most cases, spine surgery will only be recommended after a nonsurgical treatment has been tried and the symptoms were not relieved. Surgery is also more likely to be recommended when the exact source of pain, such as a herniated disk, can be identified.. The traditional method of conducting surgery on the spine is referred to as open surgery. This means that a long incision is made so that the orthopedic surgeon can access the anatomy in the area being operated on. Newer minimally invasive techniques have been developed using modern technology that allows a range of neck and back procedures to be performed with much smaller incisions. This minimizes damage to surrounding m muscle and tissue resulting in a much shorter recovery time. Minimally invasive techniques are often used for common procedures like spinal fusion, bulging disc, bone spurs, and decompression.. ...
Romo, coming off the most efficient season of his career in helping the Cowboys win the NFC East at 12-4, said four straight days of work doesnt change the daily maintenance required to take care of his back. And he sounded as if a day off during the week would remain part of his routine when the regular season starts.. I dont know if you could ever consistently go three or four days and feel youre going to be at your best, Romo said. Just doesnt allow the torque to consistently happen like that. But if you do it the right amount, youll always be at your best. You just have to work your butt off to make sure you keep it there.. Romo had his first back procedure to remove a cyst in April 2013, so he missed the offseason program and was far behind in conditioning and throwing when he reported to camp.. The second surgery was December of that year after he sustained a herniated disk in the second-to-last game at Washington and missed a loss to Philadelphia in a playoffs-or-bust finale. As ...
According to the Free Dictionary website, faith is confident belief in the truth, value, or trustworthiness of a person, idea or thing; belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. A Duke University study indicates that faith can reduce stress and depression, decrease cardiovascular disease and blood pressure, and mitigate metabolic problems. Since faith is so powerful, why not work on developing it today rather than waiting to find it in times of dire need? Meditation, prayer or spending time in nature can help us find a place of inner calm and clear out the worries and annoyances that so often occupy our minds. Review it the next time you face a challenging situation, one where resolution seemed unlikely or impossible at the time.
One of the first contactees to describe Lyra was Billy Meier who received much public attention as a result of his alleged visits from Pleiadians from 1975 to 1986, Mr. Meier supported his representation with material evidence that continues to confound those sceptical of Mr. Meiers claims. Comprehensive investigations by a number of individuals and organizations found that Meiers evidence was not fabricated and therefore constituted significant support for his testimony of extraterrestrial contact. Dr. Salla, and other researchers document. Due to the amount of physical evidence he had provided over the years, Meier has gained great credibility, and the consistency and coherence of his testimonies suggest that he is indeed an important spokesperson for an extraterrestrial race. Dr. Salla and other associated researchers also document that, In a 1998 interview, Clifford Stone, a retired US army Sergeant who served in the US Army for 22 years, in association with other interviews, ...
This book addresses the history of interaction in the Aegean world during the third century BC. The main focus is the island of Delos and its important regional sanctuary. Through a thorough investigation of the Delian epigraphic and material evidence, it explores how and to which degree the islands of the southern Aegean formed active networks of political, religious, and cultural interaction. The book aims to show that this kind of regional interaction in the southern Aegean resulted in the creation of a regional identity, which was expressed, among other things, in the existence of a federal union of the islands, the so-called Islanders League. It is structured along the lines of four case studies which explore different types of networks around Delos: the federal organization of islands (Islanders League), the participation of Delian and other agents in the processes of monumentalization of the Delian landscape, the network of honours, and the social dynamics of dedication through the record of

New steering group driven by equality, reports Steve Hook. Equal rights will be at the centre of the Learning and Skills Councils thinking with the creation of a national advisory committee.. The equality and diversity committee will tackle issues such as race, gender and disability and run alongside the LSCs other committees, including those for youth and adult learning.. Shirley Cramer, chief executive of the Dyslexia Institute, will chair the committee.. The new committee will raise the profile of the issues that were previously covered by an advisory group on equality, says Ms Cramer, who has been a member of the LSC national council for 18 months.. She said: It is very important that we put equality and diversity in the mainstream of what we do in the LSC, and that is what this committee is about.. We will report to the national council twice a year, with the same sort of status as other committees that make up the LSC.. We have some good-quality applications for the committee and we ...
The first thing that happens upon heating is the nicotinic acid starts to vaporize and then sublimate on the inner walls of the reaction chamber. Shortly after pyridine also condenses on the inner surfaces and does, to a certain extent, dissolve and wash back the errant nicotinic acid. The papers mentioned heat of about 230 deg starts the reaction. While things did begin to happen at about that temperature, it did take more heat then I anticipated to drive to completion. As you would imagine the reacted carbonized mass is a very poor heat transfer medium so you have to pour on the flame near the end. Im not sure I would use your good glassware for this nor probably is an electric mantle up to the job. In my opinion using a metal reactor would be preferable to glass. One could construct something from steel pipe that would serve well for this purpose. If it were elongated and mounted vertically and on the lower end most heat be concentrated, with the upper part cooler the condensed pyridine ...

This module examines the workings of barbarian societies encountered by the expanding Roman empire of the first century BC/AD in terms of culture, politics, economies, and ritual - addressing everything from the barbarians addiction to wine to the bizarre and cruel practice of head-taking. These themes are explored with a particular focus on material culture and archaeological evidence, although no prior knowledge is required to enrol. As well as historians and archaeologists, Barbarian societies is recommended for humanities and social science students with interdisciplinary interests in the historical and anthropological study of small-scale tribal societies in a globalising context.. ...

Diphtheria is disease that affects primarily the upper respiratory system and is caused by the bacterium Corynebacterium diphtheriae. The bacterium is most commonly spread through person-to-person contact. Diphtheria can be prevented by a vaccine. Canada has included diphtheria in its infant immunization schedule since the 1930s. The success of this program led to a dramatic decline in the number of cases, with very few occurring in Canada since the early 1950s. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends immunization against diphtheria ...
Abstract: Managing hemorrhagic shock is complex and difficult, and hemorrhage remains the leading cause of preventable deaths among trauma patients. There is an on-going debate on the best resusciative strategy. Many intensive care units practice massive transfusion protocols with resuscitation fluids composed of Packed Red Blood Cells (PRBC), Fresh Frozen Plasma and platelets in equal ratios, thus resembling whole blood. Some studies reported a great survival benefit from this relative high proportion of FFP, but most of this benefit has later been shown to be due to a survival bias. Trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) is present in 10-34 percent of trauma-patients at admission to the intensive care unit. A feared complication to massive hemorrhage includes the so-called «viscous cycle» of hypothermia, acidosis and coagulopathy, which is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. To understand the pathophysiology behind this, knowledge of hemostasis is needed. Endothelium, platelets and ...
as well as Shock Trauma in Baltimore and teaches at Reanimate. When you come to the essence of this episode, the question is what is the emergency physicians role in the trauma resuscitation? Both Zaf and Zack agree; we need to be the resuscitationist in the trauma suite. We need to manage the airway and then quickly take over the arterial and venous access, interpret the transduced pressures, manage the massive transfusion protocol and be ready to insert the REBOA catheter while the trauma surgeon is involved with the left chest, the source of bleeding and where the next destination for this patient will be.. ...
In 2014, Turner was one of a handful of Manitoba Renal Program (MRP) patients who started trialling a new home hemodialysis machine.. Being the geek and nerd that I am, I of course constantly research whats going on. He had heard of the NxStage machine and one day heard home hemodialysis nurses talking about it and was approached to try the machine at home.. It was very easy to learn. Its about one tenth as complicated as the Bellco, he says, comparing the new machine to the one he previously used. With the NxStage, my mother could run it and she has no technical abilities whatsoever. She doesnt even know how to program her PVR yet.. Turner says the benefits are numerous from the machines ease of use and limited need for water to a shorter set-up and tear-down time. It also requires less supplies which means less space needed in the home.. I would tell anyone considering home dialysis that its one billion times better than the hospital because its on your own schedule.. Turner ...

Holcomb and colleagues lead the way in high-quality trauma resuscitation research, setting the standard for future haemostatic resuscitation. It does make a difference!. In this multicentre randomised controlled trial, 680 severely injured patients needing massive transfusion with plasma, platelets and red blood cells were transfused using a 1:1:1 or a 1:1:2 ratio. A beautiful design and set-up in 12 Level 1 trauma centres enabling research in a very difficult population, and also making blood products available early already at mean time 8 minutes.. Mortality at 24 hours was 12.7% in the 1:1:1 group compared with 17.0% in the 1:1:2 group, and mortality at 30 days was 22.4% versus 26.1%; unfortunately, the differences did not reach statistical significance. Exsanguination was significantly decreased by 37% (9.2% in the 1:1:1 group versus 14.6% in 1:1:2 group) and, also very exciting, death due to traumatic brain injury was reduced (8.1% versus 10.3%). The most impressive evidence in the report ...
Although more than half of the migrants to Great Britain are from outside of Europe, persons within the bloc known as the European Union, where the principle of free movement is embraced, and countries including Italy and Spain, are also crossing the border into Great Britain.. Data on global migration for the year 2005 indicated that nearly 190 million persons, or three per cent of the worlds population, do not live in the country of their birth. This data paints a vivid picture of how people continue to move around in search of new experiences and opportunities.. The movement of criminals as part of this criss-crossing of borders cannot be overlooked in the debate about immigration. Criminals, whether they are seized by religious fervour or those who are simply greedy, have made things bad for other law-abiding citizens who wish to pursue their dreams. In many instances, it is these criminals who parlay their brutality and violent methods that have driven fear into the hearts of ...
David, the parallels between the left, Islam and Nazism are that all want their followers to think that their brand of thought is not only more superior to all others but that all other forms of thought need to be eradicated. All three originally mask a peaceful facade only to resort to violence when confronted with resistance. We are witnessing the worldwide expansion of Islam along with the rise of leftist ideology in The United States. These two crippled systems are leaning against each other, holding each other up and using each other to further their respective goals. The ironic twist is that all of these systems are vehemently opposed to one another. Whereas true Islam does not hide the fact that lethal violence is an acceptable means of furthering their aims, the left is only recently resorting to non-lethal violent methods while still publically semi-condemning those violent actions. The one critical aspect in all of this is the corrupt media. In the United States and parts of Europe, ...
Results No significant differences were detected in mortality at 24 hours (12.7% in 1:1:1 group vs 17.0% in 1:1:2 group; difference, −4.2% [95% CI, −9.6% to 1.1%]; P = .12) or at 30 days (22.4% vs 26.1%, respectively; difference, −3.7% [95% CI, −10.2% to 2.7%]; P = .26). Exsanguination, which was the predominant cause of death within the first 24 hours, was significantly decreased in the 1:1:1 group (9.2% vs 14.6% in 1:1:2 group; difference, −5.4% [95% CI, −10.4% to −0.5%]; P = .03). More patients in the 1:1:1 group achieved hemostasis than in the 1:1:2 group (86% vs 78%, respectively; P = .006). Despite the 1:1:1 group receiving more plasma (median of 7 U vs 5 U, P , .001) and platelets (12 U vs 6 U, P , .001) and similar amounts of red blood cells (9 U) over the first 24 hours, no differences between the 2 groups were found for the 23 prespecified complications, including acute respiratory distress syndrome, multiple organ failure, venous thromboembolism, sepsis, and ...
Tracheobronchial injury (TBI) is damage to the tracheobronchial tree (the airway structure involving the trachea and bronchi). It can result from blunt or penetrating trauma to the neck or chest, inhalation of harmful fumes or smoke, or aspiration of liquids or objects. Though rare, TBI is a serious condition; it may cause obstruction of the airway with resulting life-threatening respiratory insufficiency. Other injuries accompany TBI in about half of cases. Of those people with TBI who die, most do so before receiving emergency care, either from airway obstruction, exsanguination, or from injuries to other vital organs. Of those who do reach a hospital, the mortality rate may be as high as 30%. TBI is frequently difficult to diagnose and treat. Early diagnosis is important to prevent complications, which include stenosis (narrowing) of the airway, respiratory tract infection, and damage to the lung tissue. Diagnosis involves procedures such as bronchoscopy, radiography, and x-ray computed ...
Thrombosis, the obstruction of blood flow due to the formation of clot, may result in tissue anoxia and damage, and it is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in a wide range of arterial and venous diseases and patient populations. In 2009 in the United States, an estimated 785,000 people had a new coronary thrombotic event, and about 470,000 had a recurrent ischemic episode. Each year, approximately 795,000 people have a new or recurrent stroke. It is estimated that 300,000-600,000 people each year have a pulmonary embolism or deep venous thrombotic event. In the nondiseased state, physiologic hemostasis reflects a delicate interplay between factors that promote and inhibit blood clotting, favoring the former. This response is crucial as it prevents uncontrolled hemorrhage and exsanguination following injury. In specific settings, the same processes that regulate normal hemostasis can cause pathologic thrombosis, leading to arterial or venous occlusion. Importantly, many commonly used ...
5. Patients perishing from outright exsanguination are few and far between ( excluding the usual horrendous RTA cases at least ). Terminal cancers are scary. Still vividly recall a gentleman with NPC who burst his carotid artery a year ago. Last night, a lady with advanced CA cervix died after a MASSIVE PR bleed. Premorbid state was already poor, but we went the extra mile with 7 pints of fluids, 1 pint of blood, 3 peripheral iv lines, 1 intraosseous needle ( we have the kit, with a drill and everything ), iv atropine / adrenaline, stopping just short of an intubation. Unfortunately, we couldnt save her, and once in a while, I feel something that goes beyond the usual disappointment and fatigue. Yesterday, I paused yet again as I filled out her death certificate, staring at the healthy, young woman smiling from the NRIC photo ...
Heat stress adversely affect broiler meat quality attributes particularly inducing more oxidation and toughness. Apoptosis is the process of mediated cell death occurring immediately after exsanguination of animals or stress conditions. It is initiated by release of cytochrome C to the cytoplasm, ultimately activating caspase 3. Since caspase 3 is an enzyme that cleaves calpastatin, a known inhibitor of calpain (primary proteolytic enzyme), a potential involvement of apoptosis in meat tenderness development has been proposed. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to further investigate the role of apoptosis in the postmortem meat tenderization and oxidation stability using the heat-stress broiler model ...

Butchery is a traditional line of work. In the industrialized world, slaughterhouses use butchers to slaughter the animals, performing one or a few of the steps repeatedly as specialists on a semiautomated disassembly line. The steps include stunning (rendering the animal incapacitated), exsanguination (severing the carotid or brachial arteries to facilitate blood removal), skinning (removing the hide or pelt) or scalding and dehairing (pork), evisceration (removing the viscera) and splitting (dividing the carcass in half longitudinally ...
If you or a loved one is injured by a dangerous product of some kind, the manufacturer and distributors can be legally responsible and liable for the injuries. But only if your lawyer can prove the product was defective and unreasonably dangerous to consumers. Most often, your lawyer needs the product itself to prove the case. So, if you are injured by a defective and unreasonably dangerous product, save the product so as to preserve it for your lawyer as material evidence in the case.

It is true that faith is a confident belief in truth, value trustworthiness of an idea. It is also a belief that does not rest on proof or material evidence. This would be an accurate way to describe how faith does not require proof. On the other hand, evolution is a theory that is held by many with the same level of faith. So how is it that I have proof. What is the proof that we are created? Faith allows the mind to see the fact. It allows us to draw near to the Creator Himself. While faith does not require proof, proof requires faith. There is no paradox in this statement. I do not need proof to have faith in the trustworthiness of an idea. What I do need to have for proof of that idea is a foundation in faith. Once this is set in place as a cornerstone, proof is evident. This is why so many reading this thread can see it immediately ...
The HemaClear ™ OHK Medical Device HemaClear™, approved by FDA, consists of a silicon ring wrapped in a stockinet sleeve and pull straps (Fig.1). It performs three functions - blood removal (exsanguinations), arterial flow occlusion, and placement of sterile stockinet 30. The ring is placed on the extremity and then straps are pulled proximally. The silicone ring rolls up the limb while the stockinet sleeve unfolds onto the limb. During the rolling up process, the ring exerts pressure and squeezes the blood away from the limb. Application of the device takes less than a minute.. The technique behind this device is fundamentally different from classic pneumatic tourniquets, as pressure is exercised by only a single silicon ring so that the profile is very small.. Zimmer A.T.S.®3000 The A.T.S.®3000 is an automatic broad tourniquet system with a Limb Occlusion Pressure (LOP) feature. It is the latest innovation in tourniquet technology and has FDA approval. It was invented by McEwen 4 and the ...

The national focus of this years SET is Plan, Prepare, Practice. Although this may not be what drives the SET at the local level, it may assist you in your planning. Planning is a critical part to every operation; therefore, this year it is recommended that the SET author or Emergency Coordinator writing the SET use the Incident Command System/Incident Management Systems (ICS/IMS) Consolidated action plan.. This SET will be reviewed by the National Advisory Committee and the Section Managers to be used as a baseline for future SETs and developments in training. All Emergency Coordinators should follow up your SET with an AFTER-ACTION report, including details like operational issues, how will your team look to fix issues.. From the point of view of an Emergency Coordinator, the priority will be based on local requirements from served agencies. This should be predetermined by planning and a memorandum of understanding with your local municipalities or non-government agencies. Should you not ...
