Monoterpene and isoprene emission rates of 15 Eucalyptus species were measured using an air exchange chamber technique and GC-FID analysis. The normalised monoterpene emission rates (leaf temperature 30°C) of these Eucalyptus species ranged from zero for E. forrestiana to 5.4±2.2 μg g−1 h−1 (or 871±33 μg m−2 h−1) for E. globulus. The dominant monoterpene compounds emitted from these Eucalyptus species were α-pinene, 1,8-cineole, β-pinene and limonene. The normalised isoprene emission rates (leaf temperature 30°C, PAR flux 1000 μmol m−2 s−1) ranged from 5.3±1.6 (E. botryoides) to 69±34 μg g−1 h−1 (E. globulus) or from 0.74 (E. cladocalyx) to 9.5 mg m−2 h−1 (E. rudis). Based on monoterpene emission rate data from four Eucalyptus species (E. globulus, E. robusta, E. rudis, and E. sargentii), there were clear exponential relationships between leaf temperature and monoterpene emission rate for these Eucalyptus species. The mean exponential value (β value) of the four ...

an important aid tool for the researchers decision making. Growth curves are commonly studied by nonlinear regression models, which have important assumptions that if not met should be added to the model. The present work aims to select among nonlinear Logistic, Gompertz and von Bertalany regression models the most suitable to describe the growth in wood volume of Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis hybrids in three Forest Site categories, including whether assumption deviations are required. Methods were executed by the Gauss-Newton iterative method implemented in nls() and it gnls() functions of the R software. Determination coecient, Akaike information criterion (AICc) and Residual Standard Deviation (RSD) were used as selection evaluators of the best model. The results demonstrate that for all site categories, the Gompertz model with addition of autoregressive parameters AR (1) is the most appropriate to describe the growth in wood volume of Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis ...

Fine-scale genetic structure in Eucalyptus globulus ssp. globulus native forest was detected using 69 randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. The association between genetic similarity and geographic distance was studied among 51 trees from the Tinderbox locality in Tasmania (distance ranging from 2 m to 4 km apart) and compared to 18 trees from localities up to 100 km away. Twenty pedigreed F1s were used as controls to scale the RAPD similarity among individuals to pedigree similarity. The association between genetic similarity and geographic distance was weak, yet at Tinderbox, highly related trees were shown to occur within 25 m of one another. There is an abrupt drop in average similarity after about 25 m, with no significant change with distances up to 14 km. Nevertheless, Tinderbox trees outside the 25 m genetic patches are still more similar to each other than they are to trees from the Mayfield Bay locality 100 km away. These results suggest that E. globulus native forests ...
The aim of the current study was to evaluate the fumigant activity of the essential oils from 11 species of the genus Eucalyptus and two of their hybrids on first instar of Blattella germanica L. The fumigant activity and repellence of the four major monoterpene components of these essential oils also were tested. Fumigant activity was evaluated by exposing nymphs to the vapors emitted by 50 microl of essential oil or monoterpene in a closed container. The lowest knockdown time 50% (KT50) values, expressed in minutes, were elicited by the essential oils of the Eucalyptus grandis X Eucalyptus tereticornis (57.9) hybrid, Eucalyptus sideroxylon A. Cunn (62.0), E. grandis X Eucalyptus camaldulensis (63.8) hybrid, Eucalyptus viminalis Labill (64.1), Eucalyptus dunnii Maiden (64.5), and Eucalyptus grandis (Hill) ex Maiden (68.7). The KT50 values for the remaining essential oils ranged between 74.5 (E. saligna Smith) and 161.4 min (E. tereticornis Smith). The essential oil from the hybrid E. grandis X ...
The depletion of petroleum reserves and the high level of pollution caused by fossil fuels have led to enhancing renewable energy and fuel production from biomass. Eucalyptus globulus and Nothofagus pumilio residues could constitute an interesting source of biomass for second generation biofuel production. Lenga residues were pretreated with the ionic liquid (IL) 1-N-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (C2mimCl), followed by subsequent fermentation using both the strategy of Simultaneous Saccharification and Fermentation (SSF) as well as Separate Hydrolysis and Fermentation (SHF). The SHF process yielded 0.134 g ethanol/g glucose (26.3 wt-% of the theoretical yield) compared to the SSF process which yielded 0.173 g ethanol/g glucose (33.9 wt-% of the theoretical yield) within the first 24 h of fermentation. In case of Eucalyptus residues, another IL, 1-N-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate (C2minOAc) was applied. The SSF process was applied for a period of three days. As a result, 3.7 g ethanol/L ...

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In traditional medicine, there is a long-standing culture of combining herbal drugs to increase the therapeutic efficacy. The improved medical action is thought to be due to synergistic interactions between different plant bioactive components. The aim of this study was to test the pharmacological interactions in a medicinal plant combination which consisted of Agathosma crenulata, Dodonaea viscosa and Eucalyptus globulus. The rationale for the analysis of this particular mixture is that it had noteworthy antibacterial activity and exhibited the highest activity out of seven medicinal plant mixtures previously investigated. Using chromatographic analysis, the phytochemistry of the plants was also assessed. The chloroform: methanol (1:1; v/v) extracts or hydo-distilled essential oils (A. crenulata and E. globulus) were screened individually and in combinations (double and triple plant combination) for activity against five respiratory pathogens using a microdilution assay. The ...
Today, eucalyptus is considered the most widely planted tree in plantations around the world. In the 20th century, scientist the world over experimented with eucalyptus species. They are fast growing and have valuable timber, or can be used for pulpwood in honey production or essential oils. Here Joseph Nordqvist, MedicalNewsToday.com, reflects on health benefits of eucalyptus, medically reviewed by Debra Rose Wilson, Ph.D, MSN, R.N., IBCLC, AHN-BC, CHT:. The oil that comes from the eucalyptus tree is used as an antiseptic, a perfume, as an ingredient in cosmetics, as a flavoring, in dental preparations, and in industrial solvents.. Chinese, Indian Ayurvedic, Greek, and other European styles of medicine have incorporated it into the treatment of a range of conditions for thousands of years.. There are over 400 different species of eucalyptus. Eucalyptus globulus, also known as Blue Gum, is the main source of eucalyptus oil used globally.. Leaves are steam distilled to extract the oil, which is ...

This project examined genetic divergence and phenotypic plasticity in two widespread Eucalyptus species (E. tricarpa in South-Eastern Australia, E. salubris in South-Western Australia), to determine the nature of adaptation to climate in these species, and whether genomic screening might be a useful tool to assess climate adaptation. Evidence of both plastic response and genetic specialisation for climate was found in both species, indicating that widespread eucalypts utilise a combination of both mechanisms for adaptation to spatial variation in climate. Widespread eucalypts are likely to possess a capacity to respond plastically to a changing climate to some extent, but selection of seed sources to match projected climate changes may confer even greater climate resilience. The assessment characterised responses in functional traits relevant to climate adaptation, including leaf size, thickness, tissue density, and carbon isotope ratio. Genetic variation was assessed with genome scans using ...

True Blue Organic Eucalyptus Oil - 50ml. Eucalyptus is native to Australia, but today can be found growing in subtropical regions worldwide. One of the first recorded medicinal uses of Eucalyptus was by the Australian aborigines, who not only extracted valuable water from its roots, but used its leaves to relieve fevers. It has been reported that early Australian developers were able to successfully treat and cure fever using Eucalyptus leaves. The medicinal properties of Eucalyptus reside in its oil, which is extracted from the fresh leaves and branch tips, as well as dried leaves. The primary active constituent in eucalyptus leaves is the volatile oil eucalyptol. For eucalyptus to provide an effective expectorant and antiseptic action, the volatile oil should contain at least 70% eucalyptol. Eucalyptus oil has been compared to menthol because it acts on receptors in the nasal mucosa, which help to alleviate nasal congestion. What are the benefits of Eucalyptus oil?. Medicinal eucalyptus oil is ...
INTRODUCTION. Lepidoptera pests can cause significant damage to eucalyptus plantations in Brazil (Zanuncio et al. 1993,1998, 2001, Bernardino et al. 2007). Euselasia eucerus (Hewitson, 1872) (Lepidoptera: Riodinidae), also reported as Euselasia apisaon (Dalman, 1823) (Zanuncio et al. 1990, Murta et el. 2008), is a Brazilian native insect and its caterpillars are commonly found in Eucalyptus spp. plantations in São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Minas Gerais States, Brazil in outbreaks conditions (Zanuncio et al. 1994). The entire developmental cycle of E. eucerus takes place on Eucalyptus trees, this insect lays its egg clusters on their leaves and its caterpillars are gregarious and pupate on leaves of Eucalyptus spp. (Zanuncio et al. 1990). Euselasia eucerus eggs are parasitized by Trichogramma maxacalii Voegelé and Pointel, 1980, Trichogramma demoraesi Nagaraja, 1983 and Trichogramma acacioi Brun, Moraes and Soares, 1984 (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae); its caterpillars and ...

From the beginning UPM has followed a clear vision and strategy on how to establish, develop and manage eucalyptus plantations sustainably. All of UPMs eucalyptus plantations are certified to both FSC® and PEFCTM standards and all forestry operations are based on the standards of sustainable forest management.. Today UPM manages over 380,000 hectares of plantations in Uruguay. These supply wood for the UPM Fray Bentos mill and will also supply the new mill in central Uruguay.. Eucalyptus trees grow fast and seedlings will provide wood within 10 to 12 years. Still, what is done in the plantations is long term work - seedlings planted today will be available as wood on the mills fibre lines 10 years from now.. UPM mainly grows Eucalyptus grandis and E. dunnii species but also hybrids between different species have been developed. A genetic improvement programme which is based on traditional breeding ...

Across sites in Brazil and Hawaii, LMA and Nmass were strongly correlated with height and shade index, respectively, which may help simplify canopy function modeling of Eucalyptus plantations. Abstract Within tree canopies, leaf mass per area (LMA) and leaf nitrogen per unit area (Narea) commonly increase with height. Previous research has suggested that these patterns occur as a strategy to optimize carbon gain by allocating available resources to upper canopy leaves that are exposed to greater light availability. We tested three hypotheses about the influences of height, shade index (a proxy for light), and stand age on LMA and leaf nitrogen for even-aged Eucalyptus saligna and Eucalyptus grandis x urophylla plantations in Brazil and Hawaii, USA, spanning most of the environmental conditions found across 19.6 million ha of Eucalyptus spp. plantations around the world. Shade index was developed by incorporating canopy depth (inner-crown shading) and a tree height ratio relative to neighbor ...
INTRODUCTION. The decay of organic matter returned to the soil via litter fall is an important source of inorganic ions for vegetation uptake. Nutrients are released from decaying organic matter by physical (leaching) and biological (microbial decay) processes (Baker and Attiwill 1985). The sequence from fresh litter to stable soil organic matter has been defined as a decay continuum (Melillo et al. 1989). Release/immobilization proceeds through time in different ways according to the mobility, concentration and biotic role of nutrients, the activity of organisms and the physical environment.. In Argentina, forest plantations cover ca. 800,000 ha. Twenty-nine percent (231,100 ha) are Eucalyptus spp., with 140,000 ha of Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex Maiden, growing on 10-12 year rotations, located in the northeast part of the country (Dalla Tea and Marcó 1996). The increase in plantation area of exotic tree species during the last decade, converted from native forests and grasslands, has ...
In South Africa, Eucalyptus grandis is an important species due to its fast growth and general suitability of its timber for a range of products. However, E. grandis is susceptible to fungal diseases such as Crysoporthe austroafricana and Coniothyrium sp. cankers in the subtropical region of Zululand and is therefore mainly planted as a parental species in a hybrid combination with E. urophylla in this region. The current strategy is to maintain large breeding populations of both parental species in order to provide improved elite selections for hybrid crosses. In order to develop the best interspecific hybrid breeding strategy for E. grandis, it is important to first determine estimates of genetic parametersof the pure species parents. Estimating the genotype by environment interaction (G×E) is also necessary in proposing the basis for setting up breeding populations and selecting environmentally stable genotypes. With this in mind, two E. grandis full-sib progeny trials were planted in ...

return to homepage] Eucalyptus Oil: a possible aid for cancer patients. Jacob Schor ND, FABNO. November 17, 2009. Eucalyptus oil may be a useful adjunct to consider for patients undergoing cancer chemotherapy. This essential oil may activate innate cell mediated immune responses and counter the immunosuppressive effects of therapy. At the same time it may reduce production of inflammatory cytokines that stimulate cancer cell growth. Its classic action as an antibacterial and antifungal agent may also be of benefit.. Eucalyptus oil of course comes from eucalyptus trees that are part of the genus of flowering trees of the myrtle family. These Myrtaceae are the dominant tree flora of Australia. There are more than 700 species of Eucalyptus, almost all natives of Australia. Eucalyptus trees were brought to California in 1850 and planted in the hope they would provide timber especially for producing railroad ties. The wood from these American grown trees eventually proved to be unsuitable for use as ...
Xyloglucan is the major hemicellulosic polymer found in the primary cell walls of dicots. Xyloglucan tethers cellulose microfibrils conferring rigidity and strength for maintenance of cell integrity, and it is thought that its metabolism contributes to cell elongation and thus plant growth. Here, we have cloned and characterized a Eucalyptus grandis gene ortholog of the Arabidopsis thaliana MUR3 gene (xyloglucan galactosyltransferase), thus termed EgMUR3. EgMUR3 represents an intronless sequence of 1,854 bp predicted to encode a protein of 617 amino acid residues. It exhibits 73% identity and 82% similarity to the A. thaliana MUR3 gene. To demonstrate that this gene encodes a functional enzyme, the putative ORF was cloned into a binary vector under the control of a constitutive promoter and transformed into the A. thaliana mur3 mutant. The effect of the genetic complementation was investigated by xyloglucan oligosaccharide fingerprinting of wall material. The results confirmed that EgMUR3 ...
The characterization of organ/tissue-specific promoters is of great interest to transgenic production. The construction of expression cassettes containing tissue-specific promoters is a viable alternative to limited transgene expression to specific organs and cell types. In this context, the purpose of this study was to functionally characterize the promoter of a Eucalyptus grandis gene encoding a high affinity potassium transporter (named EgHAK) shown to be specifically expressed in roots. For that, the 5-flanking region of EgHAK (1,3 kb) was cloned and transcriptionally fused to the b-glucuronidase reporter gene (GUS), and then used to transform tobacco leaf discs. Histochemical analysis of GUS activity in transgenic plants showed that GUS staining was mainly detected in vascular tissues of leaf and root. To investigate the response of the studied promoter to potassium starvation, a hydroponic system was employed. In this case, enhanced GUS staining was observed in the roots of plants starved ...

Huntsville, Ala. - An international research team led by Jeremy Schmutz of the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology announced that it has sequenced the first draft genome of the eucalyptus tree. The teams findings provide clues into how the ubiquitous trees adapt to new and changing environments and point to a possible new source of energy as well as ways for growers to boost wood production.. The announcement was published online in the June 11, 2014 edition of the journal Nature.. The sequencing and analysis of 640 million base pairs making up the Eucalyptus grandis genome shows how the trees unique genetics allows the trees to make wood very quickly, opening the door to using the trees for large-scale biomass energy production. The genome also helped researchers understand the molecular pathways that the trees use to produce oils and chemicals called terpenes, which are used in a number of manufacturing processes. Schmutz and his colleagues used whole-genome shotgun sequencing (a method ...
Eucalyptus oil is a natural complex substance. It is a mixture of several components, but three of them represent 85% of that mixture. Log Kow of each of these three components were determined. Without available experimental BCF studies, Eucalyptus oil BCF value was determined regarding the highest log Kow value of these components. The highest log Kow value is for alpha-pinene (log Kow at 4.42), therefore it was assumed that BCF of alpha-pinene would be conservative enough for the mixture, which is 852.9 L/kg wet-wt. This value is a geometric mean between three calculation approaches: regression-based estimate BCFBAF v3.01,Arnot-Gobas upper trophic including biotransformation BCFBAF v3.01 andTGD part. II, eq. Abstract: In São Paulo State, in Southeastern Brazil, the Eucalyptus plantations have been replacing large areas which were formerly occupied by pastures used for livestock production. Such land use change may affect the habitat use by wildlife in these anthropic landscapes. In this region, the commercial Eucalyptus plantations of the paper and cellulose industry usually take from 6 to 7 years to be harvested. During its production cycle, the Eucalyptus stands vary from an open savanna-like environment just after plantation, when plants still resemble bushes, to a forest-like environment with densely distributed 18-meter high trees. Previous studies show that the Eucalyptus plantations in Southeastern Brazil are used by generalist species including medium and large sized mammals. However, the possible influence of such dramatic temporal environmental heterogeneity on the wildlife habitat use in Eucalyptus plantations is still unknown. In this study, which follows a classic stratified design, we

Corresponding authors email: [email protected] ABSTRACT. The chemical composition of essential oils from leaves of seven Eucalyptus species, viz., Eucalyptus crebra; Eucalyptus kitsoniana; Eucalyptus melanophloia; Eucalyptus microtheca; Eucalyptus pruinosa;Eucalyptus rudis and Eucalyptus tereticornis (Pakistan) was analysed by GC-FID and GC-MS. The main component of E. crebra, E. microtheca and E. rudis essential oils was 1,8-cineole (31.6-49.7 %).Eucalyptus melanophloia and E. tereticornis contained p-cymene (41.8-58.1 %) as a major component while E. kitsoniana and E. pruinosa essential oils were dominated by α-pinene (25.8-31.4 %). In vitro antimicrobial activity of the essential oils was studied by agar well diffusion method at concentration range 8-250 µg/ml. The Eucalyptus oils inhibited the growth of Gram positive bacteria (Bacillus spizizenii, Staphylococcus aureus) significantly with zones of inhibition (IZ) ranging from 15.3-46.0 mm. The studied oil demonstrated moderate ...

For an example of changing historical perspectives, in 1991, largely genetic evidence indicated that some prominent Eucalyptus species were actually more closely related to Angophora than to other eucalypts; they were accordingly split off into the new genus Corymbia. Although separate, all of these genera and their species are allied and it remains the standard to refer to the members of all seven genera Angophora, Corymbia, Eucalyptus, Stockwellia, Allosyncarpia, Eucalyptopsis and Arillastrum as eucalypts or as the eucalypt group.[1][2][3][4] The extant genera Stockwellia, Allosyncarpia, Eucalyptopsis and Arillastrum comprise six known species, restricted to monsoon forests and rainforests in north-eastern Australia, the Arnhem Land plateau, New Guinea, the Moluccas and New Caledonia. These genera are recognised as having evolved from ancient lineages of the family Myrtaceae. According to genetic, fossil and morphological evidence, it is hypothesised that they evolved into separate taxa ...

Abstract Scale insects of the genus Apiomorpha Rübsaamen (Hemiptera: Coccoidea: Eriococcidae) induce sexually dimorphic galls on Eucalyptus, but the Apiomorpha pharetrata species-group is unusual in that nymphal males aggregate on the surface of the maternal gall where they induce a compound structure. Although originally described as distinct species on the basis of differences in gall morphology, A. pharetrata (Schrader) and A. thorntoni (Froggatt) were subsequently synonymised, primarily because the adult females of the two are morphologically indistinguishable. The two gall types of A. pharetrata sensu lato are allopatric and found on different host eucalypt species. To test the hypothesis that gall morphology may be determined by the host species on which the female feeds, we reared crawlers of field-collected females from both gall types on eucalypts in a glasshouse. Both gall types were induced on the same eucalypt species, with the gall type matching that of the maternal gall from which ...
Botanical names: Eucalyptus globulus How It Works The major constituent in eucalyptus leaves is a volatile oil known as eucalyptol (1,8-cineol). In order to provide an effective expectorant and antiseptic action, the leaf oil should contain approximately 70-85% eucalyptol. 3 Eucalyptus oil is said to function in a...
Traditional medicine and ecological cues can both help to reveal bioactive natural compounds. Indigenous Australians have long used kino from trunks of the eucalypt tree, Corymbia citriodora, in traditional medicine. A closely related eucalypt, C. torelliana, produces a fruit resin with antimicrobial properties that is highly attractive to stingless bees. We tested the antimicrobial activity of extracts from kino of C. citriodora, C. torelliana × C. citriodora, and C. torelliana against three Gram-negative and two Gram-positive bacteria and the unicellular fungus, Candida albicans. All extracts were active against all microbes, with the highest activity observed against P. aeruginosa. We tested the activity of seven flavonoids from the kino of C. torelliana against P. aeruginosa and S. aureus. All flavonoids were active against P. aeruginosa, and one compound, (+)-(2S)-4′,5,7-trihydroxy-6-methylflavanone, was active against S. aureus. Another compound, 4′,5,7-trihydroxy-6,8-dimethylflavanone,

In 1998 the eucalyptus weevil, Gonipterus scutellatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), a major defoliator of the genus Eucalyptus, which causes growth and economic losses, was detected in Chile. This has caused concern because more than 525,000 ha are planted with species of eucalypt. To understand the protein responses of development stages of G. scutellatus fed on the three species of eucalypt trees most important in the country, electrophoretic profiles were obtained and characterized on polyacrylamide gels under denaturizing conditions, and marker proteins were sought through gel densitometry. Proteins became more numerous with insect development. Protein bands were concentrated between 20 and 120 kDa, with the exception of eggs, which presented lower values. The appearance of distinct bands of proteins in the extracts from larvae and adults of G. scutellatus fed on different species of eucalypts reflected changes in their metabolism. These results are useful for integrated pest management, as ...
MELO, Natalina Takahashi de et al. Biotyping of Cryptococcus neoformans. Review of the literature. New epidemiologic informations about cryptococcosis. Our experience with the utilization of C.G.B medium in this yeast. Rev. Inst. Med. trop. S. Paulo [online]. 1993, vol.35, n.5, pp.469-478. ISSN 1678-9946. http://dx.doi.org/10.1590/S0036-46651993000500015.. The purpose of this work was to collect the main information from the literature about the biotyping of Cryptococcus neoformans. The more up-to date research concerning the epidemiology of cryptococcosis comprising quite a few articles, mainly after the advent of AIDS, was also reviewed. The Cryptococcus neoformans varieties neoformans and gattii are well defined biochemically nowadays chiefly through the C.G.B. medium, according to KWON-CHUNG et al. (1982)24. The isolation of C. neoformans var. gattii from flowers and leaves of Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Eucalyptus tereticornis, specially in Australia, through the works of ELLIS & PFEIFFER ...

Research on the Dissolution of Pentosans during Eucalyptus Hydrolysate Pretreatment. Mingshuai Ma,a Ran Liu,a Yanzhu Guo,a Haiming Li,a,* Jinghui Zhou,a,* Haisong Wang,a Jie Lu,a and Shijie Zhang a,b. Hydrolysate pretreatment (HP) uses hot water pre-hydrolysis liquor (HWPL) as partial or full pretreatment medium for biomass. Pentosan dissolution during Eucalyptus HP was studied under holding times between 0 min and 160 min, holding temperatures between 150 °C and 190 °C, a hot water pre-hydrolysate ratio (HWPR) from 20% to 100%, and a fixed liquid to wood ratio of 1:6. Both the pentosan removals in the hydrolysate pretreated solid (HPS) and the hydrolysate pretreatment liquor (HPL) pento-saccharides contents were determined and compared with those of hot water pre-hydrolysis (HWP). When compared to HWP, the HP enhanced pentosan removal from the solid phase, and enriched the saccharides or promoted the in-situ conversion of saccharides into other chemicals in the liquid phase. Pentosan removal ...

Food habits of jaguarundi (Puma yagouaroundi) (Geoffroy, 1803) (Carnivora, Felidae) were studied between November 2000 and November 2001, in a 24.9 km2 area of secondary Atlantic Rainforest and eucalypt plantation, in the Serra de Paranapiacaba, São Paulo State, Brazil. Analyses of 26 fecal and regurgitate samples, obtained over a stretch of 570.1 km, showed the consumption of 19 prey items and 74 prey occurrences. Small mammals were the most frequent food item (42.5%), followed by birds (21%), reptiles (14%) and medium-sized mammals (3%). The percent occurrence (PO) suggests that the diet consisted mainly of small rodents (30%) and birds (21%). We recorded for the first time the predation of Viperidae snakes by P. yagouaroundi. Although having a large list of items and range of dietary niche breadths (Bsta = 0.76), our data show that jaguarundi prey mainly on small vertebrates (mammals, birds or reptiles), and even in tall tropical forests or eucalypt plantations, it preys mostly on animals ...
Four different genera of diaporthalean coelomycetous fungi associated with leaf spots of tree hosts are morphologically treated and phylogenetically compared based on the DNA sequence data of the large subunit nuclear ribosomal DNA gene (LSU) and the internal transcribed spacers and 5.8S rRNA gene of the nrDNA operon. These include two new Australian genera, namely Auratiopycnidiella, proposed for a leaf spotting fungus occurring on Tristaniopsis laurina in New South Wales, and Disculoides, proposed for two species occurring on leaf spots of Eucalyptus leaves in Victoria. Two new species are described in Aurantiosacculus, a hitherto monotypic genus associated with leaf spots of Eucalyptus in Australia, namely A. acutatus on E. viminalis, and A. eucalyptorum on E. globulus, both occurring in Tasmania. Lastly, an epitype specimen is designated for Erythrogloeum hymenaeae, the type species of the genus Erythrogloeum, and causal agent of a prominent leaf spot disease on Hymenaea courbaril in South ...

Pine and eucalyptus planting companies are advancing on land belonging to peasant family communities in several provinces in northern Mozambique. This is a relatively recent process, encouraged by the Mozambique Government that sees monoculture tree plantations as a tool to promote development and progress in the more remote regions such as the province of Niassa.. The main incentives for monoculture tree plantations are focussed on this province. Niassa is the province farthest away from the capital city Maputo. It is the largest of the countrys ten provinces, the least populated and, what is very important for the companies, the province covers much flat and fertile land.. The companies have been granted concessions by the countrys central Government that allow approximately 250,000 hectares to be planted over a 50-year period. Presently five companies are working in the region with a total of 11,000 hectares of plantations and the forecast is to expand and cover approximately 100,000 ...

ROMY Eucalyptus Lemongrass Body Balm daily moisturizer that hydrates soothes skin quickly absorbed contains Macadamia does leave skin feeling oily
In this study, potential application of abundantly available agricultural by-product Eucalyptus sheathiana bark in its raw and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) modified form to remove Zn2+ from its aqueous solutions was investigated by considering parameter identification and optimization, reusability, equilibrium, kinetic and thermodynamic studies. The adsorbent was characterized by SEM-EDX, FTIR, XRD, BET surface area and bulk density and point of zero charge were also determined. The process was strongly pH dependent and the adsorption percentage of Zn2+ was increased with an increase in solution pH from 2.5 to 5.1. Conversely, the adsorption percentage of Zn2+ decreased with the increase in adsorbent dosage, initial metal concentration, temperature and ionic strength. Kinetic measurements showed that the process was multistep, rapid and diffusion controlled. It was found to follow the pseudo-second-order rate equation. Equilibrium adsorption studies showed that both Freundlich and Langmuir models are ...
