The effects of acid-base changes on cardiac output during diethyl ether anaesthesia were studied in 25 mongrel dogs prepared by surgically implanting a plastic encased non-ferrous core electromagnetic probe on the ascending aorta. The findings are: (1) Metabolic acidaemia produced only slight decrease in cardiac output but a more marked fall became evident with decreasing pH(2) Respiratory acidaemia led to a slight rise in cardiac output. We have developed a transportable spectroscopic nitrogen isotopic analyzer. The spectrometer is based on dual-modulation Faraday rotation spectroscopy of nitric oxide isotopologues with near shot-noise limited performance and baseline-free operation. Noise analysis indicates minor isotope (15NO) detection sensitivity of 0.36 ppbv·Hz−1/2, corresponding to noise-equivalent Faraday rotation angle (NEA) of 1.31 × 10−8 rad·Hz−1/2 and noise-equivalent absorbance (αL)min of 6.27 × 10−8 Hz−1/2. White-noise limited performance at 2.8× the shot-noise limit is observed up to ~1000 s, allowing reliable calibration and sample measurement within the drift-free interval of the spectrometer. What Im trying to understand is the qualitative behavior behind this. vanhees71, your response states that a changing current changes the magnetic field in the inductor that induces an electric field that counteracts the current change (which is a verbal description of Faradays Law). Faradays law shows that the induced electric field is also proportional to inductance, meaning that larger L causes the counteracting electric field to be higher. In the case of slowing current (inductor discharge), the electric field pushes the charge through the inductor in the direction of the original current. In the case of increase current, the electric field pushes back on the charge trying to flow through. The question becomes why does higher L cause a higher electric field?
