The purpose of this in vitro study was to assess the effect of 17β‐estradiol on hemorheologic parameters, namely on erythrocyte aggregation and deformability and membrane fluidity. Blood samples from 65 women (aged 57±4 years) undergoing postmenopaus
RBC aggregation is a major determinant of blood viscosity, particularly under the conditions of low shear stress, and therefore it affects blood flow dynamics mainly within the microcirculation, where such conditions prevail [9]. Experimental models and clinical studies demonstrate the potential of RBC aggregation to hinder blood flow through the microcirculation in various diseases [1]. The formation of sludge blood under these conditions is assumed to cause tissue hypoxia and acidosis, and to lead to the met- abolic disturbances. A pathogenic role for erythrocyte aggregation has been postulated in acute coronary syn- dromes [2,6]. These studies examined the blood viscosity, not the erythrocyte aggregation, which seems to be most important from our standpoint. Furthermore, we mentioned the importance of the erythrocyte aggregation for the vessels injury. Rheological disorders allow atherogenic particles to be longer exposed to the vascular endothelial and consequently greater interaction ...
Red blood cells in the Rouleau formation, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Red blood cells are often stacked together because of their shape and the way they pass through tiny capillaries. They are the most abundant type of cell in human blood, accounting for 40% of the blood volume. Each cubic millimetre of blood contains around five million of these tiny, flexible disc-shaped cells. The red colour comes from the iron-containing protein haemoglobin, which picks up oxygen in the lungs and distributes it around the body. Because the cells have no nucleus and are subjected to constant physical action, they last only four months before being destroyed and broken down. The pathogenic potential of RBC aggregation within the microcirculation is dependent on the extent of RBC aggregation and the cohesive forces within the aggregate (i.e., the resistance of aggregates to shear-induced disaggregation).25 This increase of the required shear forces might have important physiological consequences, especially at the microcirculatory level, since RBC are only able to pass through small capillaries as single cells.5 However, since γmin for SCA and SCC patients were similar, differences of blood viscosity and RBC deformability between the two groups probably play a role in their unequal clinical severity.26. Although the forces required to disperse preformed RBC aggregates are elevated in SCA and SCC subjects, the extent of aggregation at stasis (i.e., AI) was lower than control in both groups; this finding contrasts with results obtained by Obiefuna et al.27 on SCA patients but is consistent with results obtained by Chien et al.2 The reasons for the discordant results ...

Purpose: Adaptive Optics Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy (AO-SLO) has enabled noninvasive and direct monitoring of erythrocyte aggregates in the retinal capillaries. In this study, we quantified the blood flow velocity in the parafoveal capillaries of patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) by using the AO-SLO system prototype developed by Canon Inc.. Methods: Ten patients (mean age ± standard deviation [SD], 45.8 ± 16.7 years) diagnosed with DR at Kyoto University Hospital (8 patients with mild nonproliferative DR [NPDR], 2 patients with moderate NPDR) and 8 control subjects without any history of ocular or systemic diseases (mean age, 34.6 ± 8.6 years) were recruited for this study. AO-SLO videos were acquired from the temporal and nasal areas located 0.5° from the foveal center. The scan area of the retina was 1.4 × 2.8°, and scans were recorded for 4 seconds per area at a frame rate of 64 Hz. Erythrocyte aggregates were detected as dark tails that were darker than the vessel shadows, ...

Blood flow partitioning at an arteriolar bifurcation could lead to spatio-temporal variations in cell-free layer formation in the upstream and downstream vessels of the bifurcation. To investigate this effect, we quantitatively analyzed characteristics of the cell-free layer in the vicinity of an arteriolar bifurcation in the rat cremaster muscle in normal physiological flow conditions. To simulate hemorheological relevance to humans, red blood cell aggregation was elevated by infusion of Dextran 500 to levels seen in humans in normal states. Spatial variations of the layer width were observed in both the parent and larger daughter vessels. A more pronounced attenuation of the layer width was generally observed in the parent vessel at its wall adjacent to the side branch than at its opposite wall. A thicker layer width was consistently found at the opposite than adjacent wall of the larger daughter vessel. Accordingly, large asymmetries of the layer widths could be developed on opposite sides of ...
Since immune responses play a major role in the development of connective tissue diseases, it is not surprising that a number of laboratory studies reflect these responses. Prior to the 1940s when rheumatoid and LE factors became widely known, one relied mainly on erythrocyte sedimentation rate and serum electrophoresis to identify protein abnormality. Elevated sedimentation rate depends on rouleaux formation, and rouleaux formation is dependent upon large asymmetric molecules of fibrinogen and gamma globulin in plasma. The demonstration of gamma globulin has become the cornerstone of the immunologists edifice. It is amazing to see how the subspecialty of immunology has mushroomed to involve the many facets of disease processes such as connective tissue diseases, skin diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, renal diseases, and cancer. More recently, immune deficiency diseases have included the pediatrician in the ever-enlarging field of immunology as has the modern-day discovery of human leukocyte antigen

Internal Medicine, State medical University, Tbilisi, Georgia. Abstract. It could be conjectured that the hemorheological disorders are involved in development of the ischemic heart disease. But this fact was so far insufficiently cleared up. The present studies were carried out in patients with various forms of chronic ischemic heart disease. We investigated the most significant factor of rheological disorders in the microcirculation, the erythrocyte aggregability, which a technique that provided us with the direct and quantitative data. Simultaneously we investigated in the some patients the tone of the resistance arteries of the hand with an original non-invasive technique. We found that the erythrocyte aggregability increased almost twice in the blood of investigated patients as compared to the healthy control group. The aggregability was positively correlated with severity of the disease. ...

Aim: This study aimed to examine the aggregation activity of basic regular blood elements of calves during the milk-feeding phase.. Study Design: The study was initiated in 39 black and white breed calves, which were examined at the ages of 11, 15, 20, 25 and 30 daysat Kolos farm in the Fatezh district of the Kursk region, Russia, in spring, 2014.. Methods: We used biochemical, haematological and statistical methods of investigation. We estimated the intensity of lipid peroxidation (LPO) in the plasma, as well as the aggregation of erythrocytes, platelets and neutrophils.. Results: It was found that the calves had an upwards trend of spontaneous erythrocyte aggregation during the milk-feeding phase. This was identified by a slight upwards trend in the total quantity of erythrocytes in an aggregate, an increase in the quantity of the aggregates themselves and a decreased number of disaggregated erythrocytes. All the calves had a trend towards an increase of platelet aggregation during the ...
View more ,Impaired heart rate variability (HRV)and haemorheology are independently associated with cardiovascular disease and diabetic complications. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationships between parameters of HRV,and red blood cell (RBC) aggregation and deformability, in older women with type 2 diabetes. Twenty women (age 69 ᠲ yr) with uncomplicated type 2 diabetes and twenty controls (age 69 ᠳ yr) participated in the study. Beat-to-beat cardiac (RR) intervals over 5 min were analysed for HRV parameters in the time and frequency domains. Blood was sampled for RBC deformability, as well as RBC aggregation in two suspending mediums: haematocrit adjusted plasma and 3% dextran 70. RBC aggregation was increased and HRV was impaired for those with type 2 diabetes when compared with control. RBC aggregation was negatively related to low frequency power of HRV, and was positively related to high frequency power of HRV, for subjects with type 2 diabetes. RBC ...

Rheology - the study of the flow of matter and accompanying phenomena of real bodies deformation - in relation to blood - hemorheology. Blood viscosity - the main rheological parameter - has been studied in many research centers and among many different group of patients. The main disorders related to the hemorheological properties are: coronary insufficiency, vascular congestion, myocardial infarction, cerebral circulation disorder, Reynaud disease, ischemic limbs, diabetes, anemia, tumors. The following parameters are the main blood viscosity determinants: plasma viscosity, hematocrit, red cell deformability and erythrocytes aggregation. In hemorheological studies we used mathematical rheological models. The measurements of blood and plasma viscosity are performed by means of oscillating-rotary rheometers in order to determine the dependence of blood viscosity on the shear rate and the two components of the complex blood viscosity. Determination of blood cells aggregability and deformability ...

AU - Shin, Sehyun. PY - 2011. Y1 - 2011. N2 - Even though blood coagulation can be tested by various methods and techniques, the effect of RBC aggregation on blood coagulation is not fully understood. The present study monitored clot formation in a microchip-based light transmission aggregometer. Citrated blood samples with and without the addition of calcium ion solution were initially disaggregated by rotating a stirrer in the microchip. After abrupt stop of the rotating stirrer, the transmitted light intensity over time was recorded. The syllectogram (light intensity vs. time graph) manifested a rapid increase that is associated with RBC aggregation followed by a decrease that is associated with blood coagulation. The time to reach the peak point was used as a new index of coagulation time (CT) ...

Blood passage time showed significant change with time of day, suggesting the existence of a daily rhythm of blood fluidity. The maximum value for blood passage time was after getting up in the morning (before breakfast). At that time, blood fluidity was at its worst for the day. Then, blood passage time fell gradually after breakfast and again after lunch. The value at 13:30 was the minimum. At that time, blood fluidity was the best of the day. Okazaki et al [9] reported that endurance exercise training shortened whole blood passage time with the increase in exercise amount of training by decreasing red cell count and hematocrit. Moderate exercise shortened whole blood passage time and brought good physical performance, thus indicating that short blood passage time is advantageous to the oxygen transport.. We used multiple regression analysis to try to identify the factors that determine the daily rhythm of blood fluidity. Based on multiple regression analysis, we inferred that body temperature ...
The molecular weight and aggregation tendency of a reference-soil fulvic acid in Armadale horizon Bh were determined by vapor-pressure osmometry using tetrahydrofuran and water as solvents. With tetrahydrofuran, number-average molecular weight values of 767 ?? 34 and 699 ?? 8 daltons were obtained from two separate sets of measurements. Two sets of measurements with water also yielded values within this range (754 ?? 70 daltons) provided that the fulvic acid concentration in water did not exceed 7 mg ml-1; at higher concentrations (9.1-13.7 mg ml-1) a number-average molecular weight of 956 ?? 25 daltons was resolved, providing evidence of molecular aggregation. Extension of these studies to 80% neutralized fulvic acid showed that a sizeable fraction of the sodium counter ion is not osmotically active....
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between endothelial nitric oxide synthase Glu(298)Asp gene polymorphism and hemorheological parameters. Red blood cell (RBC) deformability, aggregation were measured using an ectacytometry, whole blood, plasma viscosities were determined by a viscometer. Restriction fragment length polymorphism was used to detect polymorphism. Plasma nitrite, nitrate concentrations were determined by Griess method. The genotype distribution of the control group was as follows: 50 (67.5%) GG, 21 (28.4%) GT, 3 (4.1%) TT. A 48 (57.8%) of the patients with CAD had GG, 28 (33.7%) GT, 7 (8.5%) of them TT genotype. RBC aggregation index of CAD patients with G allele was higher and t1/2 lower compared to controls carrying the same allele. The amplitude of RBC aggregation of healthy subjects with T allele, who are under increased cardiovascular risk was lower compared to control subjects with G allele. The results of this study indicate that, alterations in RBC aggregation ...

Cerebral and myocardial infarctions share common aspects of pathobiochemistry. The central problem is the oxygen supply of the infarcted region. To maintain this supply, H.E.L.P.-apheresis (Heparin-mediated Extracorporeal LDL/Fibrinogen Precipitation) has already proven beneficial in the prevention and therapy of myocardial infarction. Since H.E.L.P.-apheresis can lower significantly plasma viscosity and erythrocyte aggregation without reducing the oxygen transport capacity, patients with cerebral infarction (stroke) may also benefit from our experiences in myocardial ischemia. The system is designed to remove selectively plasma fibrinogen, LDL-cholesterol and lipoprotein(a) from blood circulation, simultaneously. The removal of the plasma compounds is achieved by extracorporeal precipitation with heparin at low pH. Excess heparin is completely removed by an adsorber before the plasma is given back to the patient. H.E.L.P.-apheresis has proved to be safe in patients with coronary heart disease and

Aim: To study erythrocyte aggregation in rats with experimental model of COPD in the dynamics of phototherapy with lamps with ceramic coating.. Methods: An experimental model of COPD was reproduced in 22 white rats under the influence of tobacco smoke in a special chamber, where they were placed daily for 30-40 minutes for 2 months. Control group (11 rats) is contained in similar conditions but without exposure to tobacco smoke. For the treatment of half of the rats with experimental COPD we used the method of phototherapy with infrared light from ceramic-coated lamps with a narrow emission spectrum (wavelengths of 2-40 microns). Phototherapy on the area of lungs was carried out daily for 10 days: 5 minutes of the first 5 procedures and 10 minutes of the next 5 ones. Spontaneous aggregation of erythrocytes was quantitatively evaluated by a special system of criteria for micrographs (made by a camera connected to a microscope) of aggregates of red blood cells.. Results: In the 1st group without ...
An elevated concentration of fibrinogen in blood is a significant risk factor during many pathological diseases, as it leads to an increase in red blood cells (RBC) aggregation, resulting in hemorheological disorders. Despite the biomedical importance, the mechanisms of fibrinogen-induced RBC aggregation are still debatable. One of the discussed models is the non-specific adsorption of fibrinogen macromolecules onto the RBC membrane, leading to the cells bridging in aggregates. However, recent works point to the specific character of the interaction between fibrinogen and the RBC membrane. Fibrinogen is the major physiological ligand of glycoproteins receptors IIbIIIa (GPIIbIIIa or αIIββ3 or CD41/CD61). Inhibitors of GPIIbIIIa are widely used in clinics for the treatment of various cardiovascular diseases as antiplatelets agents preventing the platelets’ aggregation. However, the effects of GPIIbIIIa inhibition on RBC aggregation are not sufficiently well studied. The objective of

Numerous things cause clumping like poor GI health, radiation poisoning, and proteins leaking into circulation. Let me boldface MITOCHONDRIA for everyone and a molecule called OXYGEN. A healthy colon looks like evenly braided muscles. On the other hand, unhealthy colons are deformed: twisted and looped in some parts, ballooned and engorged in others, as revealed by barium X-rays. Visit a colon therapist, if only to observe the pictures of unhealthy colons and see for yourself how ugly one can be on the inside.. The blood of a healthy person is also beautiful. The red blood cells are uniformly round. The blood of a body full of toxins is contaminated with pathological bacteria, abnormal proteins, and parasites. When red blood corpuscles clump together, the condition is called Rouleau or sticky blood. Rouleau, this clumpy, unattractive blood, appears 5 to 20 years before symptoms of illness present themselves. It is an early messenger of hundreds of degenerative diseases. Conglomerates of red blood cells cannot access the fine capillaries of the body. Rouleau is particularly damaging to the organs of the head, in particular the eyes, ears, and scalp.
