We are developing capsid inhibitors as oral therapeutics for the treatment of chronic HBV infection. By inhibiting assembly of the viral capsid, the ability of hepatitis B virus to replicate is impaired, resulting in reduced cccDNA.. AB-423 is Arbutus first-generation capsid inhibitor, which was generally safe and well tolerated in Phase 1 healthy volunteer studies.. AB-506 is Arbutus next-generation capsid inhibitor, which showed striking potency and improved PK in preclinical studies. Arbutus will continue to focus on rapidly advancing AB-506 into clinical testing before proceeding with additional clinical evaluation of AB-423. Arbutus plans to file an Investigational New Drug (IND)/Clinical Trial Application (CTA) in mid-2018 (pending successful IND/CTA-enabling studies) for AB-506, which has the potential to be a best-in-class capsid inhibitor based on its favorable drug-like properties and potent inhibition of HBV replication. This molecule has the potential for once-daily oral dosing, ...
Dulfer[5][6] published the last revision of the genus Erica in the 1960s, treating 605 species. Many new species have subsequently been described (particularly in South Africa) and a further 83 have been included in Erica from former "minor genera", such as Phillipia Klotzsch and Blaeria L.[7] A more recent overview of Erica species is provided in an electronic identification aid,[8] but a modern taxonomic revision of the genus as a whole is still lacking. A number of increasingly detailed phylogenetic hypotheses for Erica have been published based on nuclear ribosomal and plastid DNA sequences.[9][10][11][12] The closest relatives of Erica are Daboecia (one or two species) and Calluna (monospecific), representing the oldest surviving lineages of a, by inference, ancestrally Palearctic tribe Ericeae.[10] The small number of European Erica species represent the oldest lineages of the genus, within which a single, order-of-magnitude more species-rich, African clade is nested.[11] Within the ...
Ireland is the perfect place to mention the strawberry tree, Arbutus unedo, because this lovely, evergreen tree with small, white, heather-like flowers and dense, stringy cinnamon bark is native to the Atlantic coast of Portugal, Spain and, surprisingly Ireland. Two experiments (mid- and late lactation) were conducted to test whether methionine (Met) limited milk production in Friesian cows fed sole diets of fresh perennial ryegrass-white clover pasture. In mid-lactation (exp. 1), 26 cows were assigned to one of three treatments: ruminally protected oral DL-Met (15 g d−1), continuous intrajugular infusion of L-Met (15 g d-1) and control. Twelve animals from exp. 1 were used during late lactation (exp. 2) and distributed in two experimental groups: ruminally protected oral DL-Met (15 g d−1) and control. Dry matter, metabolizable energy, crude protein and Met intakes, milk yield and composition and blood Met, cysteine and urea were measured. Oral and intravenous Met supplementation increased blood Met concentration by 50-90% compared with controls. Met supplementation did not alter the concentration of milk fat, protein or lactose in either experiment. Met supplementation had no significant effects on yields of fat, lactose, casein, whey proteins or non

Unlike most plants, it does not contain chlorophyll; it is a myco-heterotroph, getting its food through parasitism upon fungi rather than photosynthesis. These fungi form a mycorrhiza with nearby tree species. Plants are fleshy and grow 10-35 cm tall. True stems are nonexistent. Instead, the only part which emerges from the soil are unbranched adventitious inflorescences which are developmentally similar to adventitious roots.[2] All parts of the plant are pale yellowish white to reddish-tinged. The bracts are 5-10 mm long scale-like structures, which cover most of the inflorescence. Plants flower from April to December depending on the geographic region (May to October in North America).[3] The flowers are pendulous when young, but become erect when they begin to mature into the fruit which is a capsule. The flowers are 9-12 mm long and produced in a cluster of 1-11 together at the apex of the inflorescence, which is a raceme.[4] It flowers between early summer and mid autumn; plants that ...
The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust is about to begin the second stage of a Biffa Award funded restoration project at Foxcovert Nature Reserve. The Trust will be restoring an area of Heathland as part of a wider plan to reconnect, restore and recreate the historic Sherwood Forest.. Foxcovert Nature Reserve is a nature reserve near Calverton in Nottinghamshire, made up of areas of secondary woodland and developing heathland. Species found at the site indicate that the secondary woodland was planted on what would have been the most southerly remnant of ancient Sherwood Forest; historically, Sherwood Forest would have been made up of large areas of heathland as well as woodland.. Heathlands are a semi-natural habitat, many created in prehistoric times through clearance of primary woodland. Most heathlands were used for rough grazing, while heather, gorse, bracken and scrub were all traditionally harvested for fuel, fodder, bedding and thatching. In Nottinghamshire, 90% of heathland habitat has been ...

ts an eerie sight. The angelic 12-year-old sits patiently in a chair while a makeup artist transforms her into a demon from hell. Despite the circumstances, her spirits are high. She thinks the film she is making in Chicago, Poltergeist III, will be a winner. "This one is really good. I think its the best," she says. She was only 5 when she made the first Poltergeist film, playing a child kidnapped by evil spirits. She says she liked that one. But Poltergeist II, made in 1986, didnt pass muster. "I thought it was too boring," she says. "I dont think it would scare anyone." Heather ORourke gave this interview last June. Had fate been kinder, Heather would be jetting about the country now, promoting Poltergeist III, which opens this week. But on Feb. 1, seven months after she finished filming, Heather died of cardiac-pulmonary arrest and septic shock, the result of an undetected intestinal blockage. The news was startling. How could the popular child star have died so suddenly? Heathers ...

To stay safe, they must stay still. But musical prodigy Shira shimmers with music, so Roza tells her the story of an enchanted garden where a yellow bird does the little girls singing for her: "The girl is forbidden from making a sound, so the yellow bird sings. He sings whatever the girl composes in her head: high-pitched trills of piccolo; low-throated growls of contrabassoon." But the danger doesnt abate, and soon Roza realizes that she must send her daughter away to save her. As Shira is hidden in plain sight at a convent, where violin training reveals the virtuoso she is to become, Roza vanishes into the forest, where she initially survives on her own and finally finds love and meaning at an encampment of Jewish resisters. I just came across this video account of Erica Volkers Lyme story. Its very intense, so make sure youre ready to see a serious case of neurological late-stage Lyme. The good news is that she is on the mend. Hard to believe, since in some of the videos her full-body tremors are so incredibly pronounced. I encourage you to show this to friends and send the link around. I have gone through much of what Erica has, but without the many doctors who misdiagnosed me. I was lucky to be diagnosed earlier or at least in an earlier stage. (Although it was after 30 years of initial ifection!) Despite many forms of treatment, however, my tremors and neuropathy (especially in my legs) continue to worsen, interrupting my sleep and making daily activities such as walking, cooking, dressing, and socializing increasingly difficult ...

AMY GOODMAN: Shannon Jones of the anti-police brutality group Why Accountability, chanting outside the funeral of Erica Garner, who died just four months after giving birth to her second child, named for her father, Eric Garner.. Well, we turn now to a new ProPublica investigation that suggests Erica Garners postpartum death might be part of a wider national problem in which hospitals are failing African-American mothers, leading to disproportionately high maternal mortality rates. Every year in the U.S., between 700 and 900 women die from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. For every woman who dies, dozens more experience severe and sometimes life-threatening complications annually. Here in New York City, black mothers are 12 times more likely to die than white mothers. That staggering statistic comes from this new investigation by ProPublica.. One new ProPublica article, headlined "How Hospitals Are Failing Black Mothers," reveals women who deliver at hospitals that disproportionately ...

Heather graduated from Binghamton University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Cell and Molecular Biology. She is currently a PhD candidate in the Graduate Program for Molecular and Cellular Biology. Heather joined the Minter lab in spring of 2016, and is a recipient of an NIH Biotechnology Training Fellowship. Her research focuses on the nuances of T cell activation and identifying mechanisms to modify T cell activation. The Minter Lab and others have shown that the activation process in CD8 T cells differs greatly from those at work in CD4 T cells. Heather has been utilizing imaging flow cytometry analysis to determine the presence and localization of proteins important in the various cell signaling cascades known to induce T cell activation. She has found that several proteins known to induce NF-kB activation differ in their spatiotemporal expression between CD8 and CD4 T cells following activation. We hypothesize that manipulating the localization of these proteins may offer a ...

Persons infected with HBV are at increased risk of developing significant liver disease, including cirrhosis, or permanent scarring of the liver, as well as liver failure and cancer. According to the Hepatitis B Foundation, HBV is the cause of up to 80% of liver cancers, and liver cancer patients typically have a five-year survival rate of only 15%. The WHO estimates that more than 780,000 people die every year due to the consequences of hepatitis B disease.. HBV is often asymptomatic until significant liver damage has occurred. Estimates in a peer-reviewed publication indicate that in the United States only 20% to 30% of infected patients are aware of their disease, and that only approximately half of those aware are actually under physician care. Approximately 50,000 patients, or less than 5% of the chronically infected patients in the United States, are being treated with prescriptions for HBV at a given time, meaning that the vast majority of HBV patients in the United States are not ...

Episode 2.06, "Shhh...Dont Tell" features Fiona, an old classmate of Erica. She is sitting in the school hallway reading the black cover paperback edition of The Two Towers. Erica tries to open up a conversation about the book and "the movies" - but because the flashback is set before the movies, Fiona asks her if she means the Bakshi version instead. The flashback is set in Ericas final year in high school, in the 1980s; about 2 decades before the black cover paperbacks were published ...
