Bearing faults are the biggest single source of motor failures. Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) and other decision support systems are widely used for early detection of bearing faults. The typical decision support systems require feature extraction and classification as two distinct phases. Extracting fixed features each time may require a significant computational cost preventing their use in real-time applications. Furthermore, the selected features for the classification phase may not represent the most optimal choice. In this paper, the use of 1D Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) is proposed for a fast and accurate bearing fault detection system. The focus of this paper is to implement a fault detection and exclusion algorithm in a software GPS receiver in order to provide timely warnings to the user when it is not advisable to use the GPS system for navigation. The GPS system currently provides some basic integrity information to users via the navigation message, but it is not timely enough for safety-critical applications. RAIM is a means of providing integrity with the capability of detecting when a satellite failure or a measurement error has occurred. It is the simplest and most cost effective technique for integrity monitoring. Although the quality and speed of MR images have vastly improved with the development of novel RF coil technologies, the engineering expertise required to implement them is often not available in many animal in vivo MR laboratories. We present here an open birdcage coil design which is easily constructed with basic RF coil expertise and produces high quality images. The quality and advantages of mouse cardiac MR images acquired with open birdcage coils were evaluated and compared to images acquired with a bent single loop surface, and standard birdcage coils acquired at 4.7 Tesla. Two low pass open birdcage coils, two single loop surface coils, and a low pass volume birdcage coil were constructed and their B(1) distributions were evaluated and compared. The calculated average signal-to-noise ratio for the left ventricular wall was 10, 23 and 32 for the volume birdcage coil, single loop surface coil and open birdcage coil, respectively. Bypass diodes are nowadays used in PV modules in order to enhance the output power production during partial shading conditions. However, there is lack of scientific research which demonstrates the detection of defective bypass diodes in PV systems. Thus, this paper propose a PV bypass diode fault detection classification based on Mamdani fuzzy logic system, which depends on the analysis of Vdrop, Voc , and Isc obtained from the I-V curve of the examined PV module. The fuzzy logic system depends on three inputs, namely percentage of voltage drop (PVD), percentage of open circuit voltage (POCV), and the percentage of short circuit current (PSCC). The proposed fuzzy system can detect up to 13 different faults associated with defective and non-defective bypass diodes. As man-made dynamical systems become increasingly complex, there is an ever-present need to ensure their safe and reliable operation [1]. Early detection of faults and/or malfunctions in industrial processes and systems can help reduce downtimes and the incidence of catastrophic events [1]. Sensors are essential components of any process or system which makes use of automatic control [2]. It follows that an important aspect of any process/system fault diagnosis strategy is to attempt to determine their state of functionality. We focus the area of a producing gas field with special respect to the analysis of seismic and sub-seismic deformation which requires a very detailed fault detection to bridge the information gap between seismic data and well data. Advanced coherency algorithms as Shaded-Relief take into account local dip and azimuth distribution of coherent energy. This leads to detect additional tectonic lineaments than could have been inferred from conventional amplitude images. Beside fracture attributes like fault density by length or connectivity, we show the attribute Fractal Dimension, which is an index for the relation of long to short fractures. Results are displayed in a map showing the areal distribution of the attribute. Correlation between FMI/FMS Log Data and FD values is linear. Using this relation, we end up with a predictive FMI-map (only based on seismic data)
Popular code coverage measures, such as branch coverage, are indicators of the thoroughness rather than the fault detection capability of test suites. Mutation testing is a fault-based technique that measures the effectiveness of test suites for fault localisation. Unfortunately, use of mutation testing in the software industry is rare because generating and running vast numbers of mutants against the test cases is time-consuming and difficult to do without an automated, fast and reliable tool. Our objective is to present an innovative approach to mutation testing that takes advantage of a novel aspect-oriented programming mechanism, called pointcut and advice, to avoid multiple compilation of mutants and, therefore, to speed up mutation testing. An empirical comparison of the performance of the developed tool, called Judy, with the MuJava mutation testing tool on 24 open-source projects demonstrates the value of the presented approach.
