Violence against children has profound effects on both childrens health and their ability to do well at school. Fear, anxiety and injuries caused by violence may play a large role in both childrens absenteeism and low educational achievement, and there is increasing interest from large bilateral donors in investigating this link in low income countries. The Good School Toolkit has been developed and refined for 6 years in Uganda by Raising Voices. The toolkit takes a systemic approach, involving an entire school in a process of change to reduce violence and improve teaching techniques. The Toolkit draws on the Transtheoretical Model and incorporates standard behaviour change techniques such as setting a goal and making an action plan, which are effective in modifying behaviour. This study aims to determine whether use of the Good School Toolkit reduces childrens experience of violence by school staff. The investigators will also examine the effects of the Toolkit on childrens educational ...
The board is not persuaded that relying on the public or the media to fulfill or supplement the boards public protection role is sound policy.. This is not a one-patient case or a two-patient case; it is a three-patient case, the board said.. The medical board ruling supersedes a recommendation by an administrative law judge for a lesser disciplinary action of five years probation.. Kamravas lawyer, Henry Fenton, argued at a public hearing before the medical board last month that probation was reasonable. Nobody died here. This is a good doctor. I argue he really learned his lesson, Fenton said at the time.. Fenton said the failure to follow up on the abnormal biopsy of the 42-year-old patient was an isolated incident.. He said, Look ... it was the only time in my career I had forgotten. It was just from the publicity of [Sulemans octuplets] ... that he forgot to tell her, Fenton said.. We have an excellent physician who is very concerned, who admits his mistake, Fenton ...

I strongly believe that with an experienced lawyer who can organize a legal team, the unmatched doctors can win class-action lawsuit against the state medical boards in order to practice medicine at least in similar capacity of the PAs on the basis of equal opportunity under the law. The State Medical Boards can only require evidence-based requirements for licensure, the requirements cant be arbitrary and preferential. If such a lawsuit is filed I would predict that the trial would be a battle between the expert witnesses on both sides and given that the PAs have only one year of medical knowledge and one year of clinical rotations while the MDs have 2 years of medical knowledge and 2 years of clinical rotations I believe that the court eventually would order the state medical boards to do what Missouri did voluntarily. The AAMC and AMA opposed what Missouri did despite the fact that it was a step in the right direction hiding behind that they advocate increasing the residency positions when ...
The teams turn their backs on Ronaldo (34, Juventus), who was unhappy with the manager who was replaced during the game and left for unauthorized leave. There are also reports that the team will send Ronaldo out of contract.. Ronaldo left the field without going to the bench when coach Sari Maurizio was substituted in the 12th round of Serie A against AC Milan on the 11th. Disciplinary action is inevitable due to a breach of Serie A doping rules, but the club are in a position to quietly settle it without self-discipline.. Then the colleagues came out. Italian sports media La Gazeta del Sport said that Juventus players have blamed Ronaldos actions for hurting team discipline and companionship. They are hoping for Ronaldos apology. . Fabio Paratic and Vice President Pavel Nebat are known to meet Ronaldo for clarification, even predicting that Juventus will move Ronaldo ahead of the deal. One local football expert said: Ronaldo had a disagreement with Zinedine Zidane even in the days of ...

Molière. In 2008, a news press appeared about the discipline of a very popular and well-liked doctor in Texas, USA who treated many hypothyroid patients.. And for what?. Under the column titled NONTHERAPEUTIC PRESCRIBING, it stated: The action was based on Dr.________ prescribing Adipex, Adderal and Armour Thyroid to patients when such medications were not indicated.. Adipex and Adderal are both central nervous system stimulants, and we cant comment one way or the other.. But the mention of Armour thyroid as not indicated was a sure sign that this medical board was using the ridiculous TSH lab test range to decide whether a thyroid medication was needed or not. Weve already seen numerous and similar disciplinary actions brought upon well-liked and wise doctors like Dr. Peatfield and Dr. Skinner of the UK, Dr. Derry of Canada, and Dr. Springer in the US-all who dared to make obvious symptoms of ones hypothyroid state more important than ink spots on a piece of paper. There have been many ...
The Texas Medical Board has asked five abortion physicians to appear before a hearing on October 28 regarding multiple violations discovered during an undercover investigation of abortion clinics across the state. Operation Rescue led the three-month investigation into Texas abortion clinics, and these Medical Board complaints are likely the first of several to come. By using a combination of investigative techniques and direct legal action, Operation Rescue is making a real impact in the Life movement. They have been endorsed by several national Pro-Life organizations, and even pro-abortion group NARAL has admitted they are relentless.. Operation Rescues Texas efforts unearthed multiple violations at all abortion clinics they investigated, including unsanitary clinic conditions, improper disposal of aborted baby remains, illegal dumping of confidential patient records, and violation of informed consent laws. Operation Rescue filed complaints against fourteen Texas abortionists based on their ...
Profiling: the term may evoke a sense of distrust and discomfort. To medical boards, profiling is the display of practice-relevant infor-mation about physicians and PAs on the boards public Web site. In re-cent years, demand has increased for information as health care consum-ers seek to make informed choices about their providers. In fact, the NCMB Web site receives 100,000 inquiries per month. Since Mas-sachusetts passed the first profil-ing law in 1996, several states have done so, and other medical boards (including North Carolina) have voluntarily provided profile information such as training, specialty, board certification, hospital privileges, public files and public documents, and licensure in other states. This Board is now considering adding other facts to the phy-sician profile. As we do so, we must insist that the information provided be accurate and relevant. The addition of public actions in other states, felony convic-tions, and discipline by Medicare, Medicaid, FDA, and DEA is ...

It is my wish that Californians will take action against this atrocity. I live in Florida and the Florida Patients Bill of Rights states that I have the right to decide if a therapy or treatment is unnecessary or dangerous. After a mild heart attack and a triple bypass, I was on more than a half dozen drugs to address my health issues. A few months later the doctor prescribed Paxil and later methotrexate for psoriatic arthritis. I started reading about alternative/nutritional approaches to my health concerns and tried to share with this doctor what I was learning. He was abusive. He asked me where did I get my medical degree. He acused me of self medicating. I went to another doctor. He was worse. He said he could not be my doctor if I refused to take the drugs. I refuse to call drugs meds. Drugs are not medicine. Drugs are toxins that cause stress on the organs and sometimes death. The second doctor later sent me a certified letter giving me 30 days to find another doctor. I went back to the ...

Dr. Smith also seems to believe that he is not responsible to follow up with my inquiry by making the accusation that I, have not always been reachable by phone, and reports that he called my home phone and received no answer or answering machine. As is common in the modern era, I use my cell phone for everything. I keep it with me at all times. Dr. Smith has this number and should have used it to contact me if he did not get a response on my home phone. Failing that, the practice has my home address, and could have generated a letter asking me to contact the practice. Additionally, as Dr. Smith has accessed our vaccine safety advocacy web site, he had access to both a phone number and email there with which to contact me. Further, I am a public figure, and a simple Google search would have given him another half dozen ways to contact me, as I have made myself as accessible as I can so that I can respond to parents and media inquiries immediately. Lastly, I called the office to find out if he ...

So far, the CA State Medical Board and USC have declined to comment on disciplinary actions and are studying the matter. ABOP and ABMS have declined to comment about their declination to not make any statement about any investigation they are pursuing or initiating or wheeling out the sanctioning panels. Such panels appear from past ABMS history to be ready made and waiting only for their political pawns who meet certain criteria for enhancing financial returns and gaining media attention to instill fear. The current scenario with Dean Puliafito does not fit their program agenda, as it would undermine faith in physician administrators, due to the fact that many professional medical bureaucrats at the ABMS quality cartel blatantly collude, racketeer and commit public fraud from position to position ...

In case you missed it, heres Sundays column:. The Minnesota Board of Chiropractic Examiners accused Attorney General Lori Swanson of a backstab and throwing them under the bus after her staff criticized the boards decision to reinstate a Twin Cities chiropractor who was twice convicted of fraud.. The conflict between the two offices stems from the boards decision in 2011 to issue a license to Dr. Randy Miland. That move outraged victims of Milands illegal investment schemes, who said theyre still waiting for thousands in restitution payments ordered by the court.. One of his victims filed a complaint with Swanson, who responded with a letter to the board in January 2013 strongly urging them to reconsider the conditions of Milands license.. But Dr. Larry Spicer, the boards executive director, said the board was following the legal advice from Swansons office when it reinstated Milands license two years ago. Those attorneys, who advise and represent the board on all licensing ...
In case a decision is very time critical, the people asking the followup question can ask it in the ticket right away. All Board members receive email from tickets in our trac. The Board owner of the decision is responsible for seeing that the ticket was opened and responding with a definite decision if they do not want the Board members voting to take precedence. Good questions should contain a plan of action that the implementor wants to take that can be approved or disapproved simply. As an example: At the last meeting, the Board voted to place a banner on http://fedoraproject.org in protest of internet censorship on Tuesday however the Board did not decide what the banner should say. I would like to implement the blackout banner with the text Internet censorship is wrong. I would like the Board to vote here to approve this as without any text the banner cannot go live on Tuesday. The Board would be able to approve or disapprove this proposal with a simple +1/-1 vote knowing that if it ...
As a result the legislative history did not assist in determining what the legislator intended to say. Accordingly r.26(5) EPC did not give any useful guidance as to how to interpret a.53(b) EPC, and the Enlarged Board had to do so on its own authority.. The Enlarged Board held that the purpose of the exclusion was to avoid the patenting of breeding processes in which technical measures or devices were used only as means to bring about processes for the production of plants that were otherwise based on biological forces. Although breeding processes by their nature involve human intervention the conclusion to be drawn is that a process for the production of plants which is based on the sexual crossing of whole genomes and on the subsequent selection of plants, in which human intervention, including the provision of technical means, serves to enable or assist the performance of the process steps, remains excluded from patentability as being essentially biological within the meaning of Article ...

The state has 31 mental health courts, with several more in the planning stage. A study of the first one in Brooklyn found participants were 46 percent less likely to be re-arrested than other defendants, according to the Center for Court Innovation, a criminal justice reform non-profit.. Judge Edwina Mendelson, the states Deputy Chief Administrative Judge for Justice Initiatives, said since the state began using mental health courts, more than 12,000 defendants have entered them and more than 6,000 successfully completed their programs.. They leave with the tools to take care of themselves, their families and meaningfully contribute to our communities, she said.. As part of the court, defendants will be connected with counseling, addiction treatment, medication management or other treatment options. This issue is not about denying you the right to pain medication developed by pharmaceutical companies. This issue is about denying other people who are looking for alternatives to some of the pharmaceutical drugs and hat has become known as western medicine, the opportunity to work with a Doctor safely to find ways to stay well without medications if they so choose. And yes, I have been in tremendous pain and very sick but the alternative care I have been able to access has helped me tremendously as well as members of my family. This is about choice- something in the USA we are supposed to have, but when these kinds of trade associations have so much power, choice is taken away from the individual to pursue a course towards their own wellness in a safe way with their doctor. Doctors should never feel threatened by suggesting a patient can be helped with alternatives to prescription drugs or other forms of care, especially when there IS science to support the treatment. I am sorry you have so ...
The county teacher of the year in Moultrie, Ga., will take her case to the superior court of Colquitt County following the state board of educations decision to uphold her dismissal by the local school board on grounds of immorality.. And, contending that her civil rights have been violated, Vicki Sherling also plans to file a lawsuit against the school district, according to her lawyer, William Norwood.. A jury acquitted Ms. Sherling last August on charges of helping her husband grow marijuana in their backyard greenhouse. (See Education Week, Sept. 13, 1989.). At its Nov. 9 meeting, the state board of education voted 4 to 3 to uphold Ms. Sherlings dismissal, concluding that there was sufficient evidence to support the local boards decision, said James Smith, the state boards chairman.. The four members of the board determined that evidence indicating that marijuana was being kept in the bedroom where she slept was enough grounds to uphold the local boards decision, Mr. Smith ...
In the past, very small commercial broadcasters (hobbyists with relatively low listeners or revenue termed microcasters) and many non-commercial webcasters had an option to pay an extra $100 a year to waive their obligation to submit reports of use telling SoundExchange precisely what they were playing. Their share of the royalties collected would instead be distributed using a system of sampling-a common practice among performance rights organizations. In such a system PRO tries to get a representative sample of everything thats played and uses that as a proxy for unattributable income. The problem with sampling is that its easy for some of the smaller/niche acts to get missed. Under the new rules, the only webcasters who have the ability waive their reporting requirements are noncommercial stations affiliated with educational institutions. Aruging that data submission requirements were especially challenging to student-run stations that often rely on volunteer labor and novice ...

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board today announced a settled disciplinary order against Randall A. Stone, CPA, of Austin, Texas, a former PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP partner, for violating PCAOB rules and standards in PwCs 2007 audit of ArthroCare Corporation.. His violations included ignoring or failing to properly address numerous indicators of improperly recognized revenue in significant unusual transactions.. The order bars Stone from associating with a registered public accounting firm - with the right to petition the Board to remove the bar after three years - and imposes a $50,000 civil money penalty and a censure. Stone consented to the order without admitting or denying the findings.. The Board began the disciplinary proceeding in December 2012, but it remained nonpublic until now, as required by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.. A responsibility and obligation of the Oregon Medical Board is the licensing and regulation of physicians and other health care professionals, in order to uphold the standards of the medical profession and to protect the public from the practice of medicine or acupuncture by an impaired licensee.. The Board recognizes that a licensee, like any other member of society, is susceptible to illnesses, including mental illness. It is also known that a licensee can have a mental illness or seek counseling and not be occupationally impaired. For example, this can occur with some depression and anxiety disorders, or with marital and family problems.. However, just as with a physical illness, a licensees ability to practice medicine or acupuncture may be compromised by his or her mental illness. This can occur with organic mental disorders, some mood and psychotic disorders and various types of character problems. Under ORS 677.190, the Board is required to refuse to grant or renew licenses, or to ...

With the number of mentally ill people in jail skyrocketing in the past decade (while, coincidentally, hospital facilities and resources available to treat people with brain disorders have fallen dramatically) its on a rare positive note that people are finally recognizing the special needs of the mentally ill when it comes to minor criminal offenses. The Nevada State Medical Board, which suspended Dr. Michael Kaplans medical license in March because he reused single-use medical devices in prostate biopsy procedures, reinstated his license Tuesday.. And the board stipulated in its reinstatement order that the urologist, who the board had said stopped reusing single-use needle guides only when they became too bloody, can once again perform invasive procedures at his office as long as a third party health professional is on hand to monitor his infection control efforts.. We determined through our investigation to this point that the imminent risk to the health, safety and welfare of the public has been ameliorated, said Doug Cooper, the boards executive director. Dr. Kaplan can immediately see patients without doing invasive procedures, but if he does an invasive procedure, he must be monitored throughout.. The Southern Nevada Health District has notified more than 110 of Kaplans patients that they need to get tested for HIV and ...

Many states still limit Medicaid reimbursement for telemedicine, and, according to the American Telemedicine Association, 24 states specify settings, such as a doctors office, where a patient must be in order to participate in a telemedicine appointment. In Texas, the state Medical Board is involved in a legal dispute over its insistence that a doctor-patient relationship be established before telemedicine can be used. The dispute, however, doesnt apply to school telemedicine as long as a school nurse is present.. But as state policymakers become more accustomed to telemedicine and familiar with its benefits, were seeing many of the restrictions falling to the wayside, said Latoya Thomas, the director of state policy for the American Telemedicine Association.. The impetus for school telemedicine in Howard County, where Ducketts Lane is located, came from former County Executive Ken Ulman. Ulman believed that health disparities in lower-income areas of the county were depressing student ...

by David M. Reutter. In September 2015, a Georgia prison doctor was fired for lying on his employment application. The misrepresentations were uncovered earlier that year during an investigation by the Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) into the deaths of nine female prisoners under the doctors care. He was cited in a report for providing substandard treatment - as a direct result of which two women died. But a loophole in state law prevented the state medical board from disciplining him, and he now has an application to practice medicine pending in New Jersey..
