Electrical mapping of the heart is a procedure that is used to diagnose the origins of arrhythmias. This procedure uses an electrically sensitive catheter to map the electrical activity in the chambers of the heart.. An arrhythmia is a heartbeat thats too fast, too slow or irregular (uneven). Arrhythmias are caused by problems with your hearts electrical system. The electrical signals may fire too fast or too slowly, or in an uneven (irregular) way. Abnormal electrical signals can originate in different areas of the heart (such as the atria or ventricles) causing arrhythmias.. To begin an electrical mapping procedure, a thin tube called a catheter sheath is inserted into a small incision in the arm or upper thigh. This process is usually visualized using x-rays and a special dye that helps reveal the arteries (called angiography). This catheter is carefully guided through the blood vessels until it is inside the heart. A smaller electrically sensitive catheter is then inserted inside the ...

This is a strange query. My first impulse is to say that if you want to know what relevance LTP has for medicine and health you have no business studying LTP. My impression over many years that people (and government agencies) throwing time and money at practical questions almost never discover anything relevant either to basic science OR to the practical question. LTP is an electrophysiological phenomenon which is explored intensively at molecular levels because some think it is a model for very basic processes underlying memory formation. Do you think memory formation is relevant to health isssues? A synapse is a site/structure where one neuron communicates to another via a chemical messenger. Without synapses, our brains wouldnt work. Maybe this would be a health issue. There is no end to the list of physiological phenomena which have implications for medicine and health. Why pick on LTP? Before you ask for the hottest ideas floating around in the literature, ask yourself what you are ...

One of the primary orgasmic nerve receptors in the foreskin. In the penis, they are concentrated in the ridged band, inner foreskin and the frenulum.. A normal foreskin contains thousands of these coiled fine-touch receptors. They are able to detect subtle changes in motion, as well as fine gradations in texture. Circumcision typically removes most of these receptors.. Reference: Wikipedia entry for Meissners Corpuscles. ...

An electrophysiologist may find a procedure difficult because he or she is not familiar with the diagnostic or therapeutic maneuver needed to address an unusual, unexpected finding. However, perhaps the most challenging case we confront is the typical case, that is, one where we need to think simply without unnecessary complication with high expectation of success with ablation. The primary purpose of the series Teaching Rounds in Cardiac Electrophysiology is to present students of invasive electrophysiology and device management that bridge between these extremes and demonstrate the way an expert reasons in a straightforward manner but with the background plethora of multiple complex and involved possibilities.. See Article by Bagga et al. In this issue of Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology, Bagga et al1 provide an outstanding example of how to combine practicality with erudition. They not only provide excellent teaching points and unique insights but openly showcase the problem of ...

AU - Lin, Yung Kuo. AU - Chen, Shih Ann. AU - Chen, Yi Jen. PY - 2013/1. Y1 - 2013/1. N2 - Backgroud: Apelin, a potential agent for treating heart failure, has various ionic effects on ventricular myocytes. However, the effects of apelin on the atrium are not clear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the acute effects of apelin on the electrophysiological characteristics of atrial myocytes. Method: Whole-cell patch-clamp techniques were used to investigate the action potential (AP) and ionic currents in isolated rabbit left atrial (LA) myocytes before and after the administration of apelin. Result: Apelin reduced LA AP duration measured at 90%, 50% and 20% repolarization of the amplitude by 11±3%, 24±5%, 30±7% at 1nM (n=11), and by 14±4%, 36±6% and 45±5% at 10nM (n=11), but not at 0·1nM. Clinical electrophysiology is the application of electrophysiology principles to medicine. The two main branches of this discipline are electrotherapy and electrophysiologic testing (EEG, electromyography, etc.) Clinical electrophysiology can be utilized in the study and treatment of various physiological conditions, and most notably in clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Cardiac Electrophysiology (also referred to as clinical cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmia services, or electrophysiology), is a branch of the medical specialty of clinical cardiology and is concerned with the study and treatment of rhythm disorders of the heart. Through the use of electrophysiological techniques, dissections of the visual system can be made. The use of both electrophysiological information in conjunction with other clinical tests, imaging, and field instrumentation, a deep and comprehensive assessment of the ocular and visual pathways can be made. Alone, electrophysiology can also monitor ocular disease, ...

The invention concerns a device comprising a support (11) in the thickness of which is produced a supply chamber (12) with an inlet duct (13) for nutrient liquid and a discharge duct (14) for said liquid. A capsule (22) capable of receiving organic cells is provided on the support (11). The supply chamber (12) and the support (11) are separated by a porous membrane (16) comprising an array of electrodes (17) arranged so as to be in contact with different zones of the group of cells, thereby enabling their electrophysiological activity to be analyzed. The device enables to increase the life span of cells and to carry out analyses simply and without affecting the cell organization.
