The literature reports dealing with the dietary electrolyte ratio (K+Cl)/ Na are rare, although the concept has been proposed by Mongin in 1981. Thus, its application appears to be limited as a nutritional strategy in feed formulation, which usually meets only the minimum nutritional recommendations in Na, K and Cl. The objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of broilers submitted to different dietary electrolyte balances (DEB) Na+K-Cl and dietary electrolyte ratio (DER) from 1 to 21 d of age. A total of 1575 male 1-d old broiler chicks were randomly assigned to 5 treatments with 9 replicates of 35 chicks each. The treatments consisted of diets with 5 relation of electrolytes, arising from combinations DEB/DER 150/3, 250/2, 250/3, 250/4 and 350/3, with use of NaCl, NaHCO3, KCl, K2SO4 and CaCl2. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) is a synthetic polymer commonly used as precursor base layer in polyelectrolyte multilayer films. However, the biological properties of this cationic macromolecule are poorly understood. The aim of this experimental investigation was to evaluate in vitro the biocompatibility of PEI towards two different human cell lines. The experimental investigation was undertaken on pure titanium (Ti) and nickel-titanium (NiTi) alloy samples with an average surface roughness of Ra=0.3microm. A biological study was undertaken at day 0 (2h after seeding), day 2, day 4 and day 7 to observe the cellular response of fibroblasts and osteoblasts cell lines in terms of morphology, adhesion (as observed by scanning electron microscopy), and viability (Mosmanns test). The results showed that PEI can be successfully deposited onto Ti or NiTi alloy, but generates a detrimental cellular response on both substrates as illustrated by a decrease of both fibroblast and osteoblast adhesion and proliferation

This is so important that it bears repeating. Electrolyte blood tests DO NOT assess your nutritional status for a given electrolyte. When an electrolyte test is out of range, it means something funky is going on. Im talking about situations like kidney failure, heart failure, medications, and illnesses that cause diarrhea or vomiting. A diet low or high in electrolytes may contribute to an out-of-range result, but its rarely the primary driver. The real problem is folks taking comfort in their in-range results. Seventeen infants with acute gastroenteritis have been studied. These patients were divided into 2 groups, 1 receiving high sodium loads (average 18 mEq./kg.) and the other low loads (6 to 7 mEq./kg.) during the first 24 hours following admission to the hospital.
