Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is a sprawling city of over 12 million people that is home to some of the worlds greatest religious sites and treasures. Cairo and the nearby areas of Memphis and Giza hold some of the worlds best museums, monuments and ancient treasures, the vast majority of which are of a religious nature. Besides its magnificent relics of Ancient Egypt, Cairo may be second only to Jerusalem in its concentration of sites of interest to Jews, Christians and Muslims.. Cairo has been conquered and reconquered by various groups throughout its long history. Never inhabited by the pharaohs, Cairo was founded as a Roman trading post and later taken over by the Arabs (7th century) and then the French and the British (19th century). The revolution of 1952 finally returned the city to Egyptian hands. Cairo is unique in that each new ruler did not destroy anything, but simply built a new city next to the old one. Thus you can follow the progression of history by walking through the various ...

A direct ramp from existing HOV lanes on I-395 to Seminary Road is good news for Alexandria residents and businesses," said Alexandria Mayor William D. Euille. "This positive development will have a big impact on traffic challenges near the BRAC facility at Mark Center. Alexandria had requested these improvements and we are encouraged that the Commonwealth of Virginia is proceeding with these upgrades and making a commitment to improve transportation infrastructure in Northern Virginia. Eliminating HOT lanes from I-395 is also the right thing to do, because no intrusive changes will be made to the Shirlington interchange. Alexandria will continue to work with our partners, Arlington and Fairfax Counties, and VDOT, to find additional solutions to our traffic concerns.". ...

Giza (الجيزة al-Gīza) is a Governorate to the west of the Egyptian capital Cairo - a city in its own right, but for a long time now absorbed as part of the heavily-populated and sprawling Cairo metropolis. Giza is best known as that part of Cairo closest to the world-famous Pyramids of Giza, situated high on the desert plateau immediately to the west of the urban district, itself located in the valley and centred around the Pyramids Road, linking central Cairo with the ancient wonders. One of the premier attractions of Egypt, if not the world, the Pyramids of Giza represent the archetypal pyramid structures of ancient Egyptian civilisation and - together with the Sphinx at the base of the Giza plateau - are the iconic image of Egypt.

2os Law thou shait see that everything is done according to the rules, helping everyone to his right he anticipates the swum cuique triluere which Justinian, following the jurist Ulpian, put as ^raeceptum juris at the beginning of his Institutes and of his Digest. Late Egyptian and Persian Period (712-332 B.C.) A great number of legal documents of the late Egyptian era have been preserved. In Upper Egypt at first the hieratic cursive script was used, in Lower and Middle Egypt the demotic. Later on, the demotic character alone was employed. There- fore at first the forms of documents were not all of the same pattern. Inasmuch as at the beginning of the late Egyptian period Lower Egypt and Upper Egypt were often governed by different rulers, it is possible that these differences in form indi- cate different legal systems for the two parts of the country, which were only gradually superseded by a new unity. But the documents in hieratic as well as the demotic legal documents were only new forms ...

As elections in Egypt continue, Western politicians and Western media assure us of one thing: that Egyptians can finally vote is great "progress.". But is the mere right and act of voting a valid sign of "progress"? No, at root, democracy is a mode of governance that simply empowers the people. True "progress" is gauged by what these people do with their empowerment""the civilization they create, the codes they institute.. Consider this picture: on the right is a painting of an Egyptian woman, as women appeared some three thousand years before the invasion of Islam, when Egypt was among the first of civilizations; on the left is a typical Egyptian woman of today, a product of Arab-Islamic civilization. Far from "romanticizing" the past, these juxtaposed portraits, separated by nearly 5,000 years, make a valid point. As many historians agree, ancient Egyptian women were "liberated" by antiquity"s standards. Today, on the other hand, not only are Muslim women in Egypt kept "under wraps," but, ...
Muhammad Ali Pasha al-Masud ibn Agha (Ottoman Turkish: محمد علی پاشا المسعود بن آغا‎; Arabic: محمد علي باشا‎ / ALA-LC: Muḥammad Alī Bāshā; Albanian: Mehmet Ali Pasha; Turkish: Kavalalı Mehmet Ali Paşa; 4 March 1769 - 2 August 1849) was an Ottoman Albanian commander in the Ottoman army, who rose to the rank of Pasha, and became Wāli, and self-declared Khedive of Egypt and Sudan with the Ottomans temporary approval. Though not a modern nationalist, he is regarded as the founder of modern Egypt because of the dramatic reforms in the military, economic and cultural spheres that he instituted. He also ruled Levantine territories outside Egypt. The dynasty that he established would rule Lower Egypt, Upper Egypt and Sudan until the Egyptian Revolution of 1952 led by Muhammad Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser. Muhammad Ali was born in Kavala, in Macedonia, of an Albanian family originally from Korçë, Albania. He was the second son of a tobacco and shipping ...

The Nile Delta, where grows the finest chamomile in the world, is perhaps the oldest continually farmed piece of land on earth. For at least as far back as 5000 years, farmers have sewn seeds and pruned crops in the delta, coaxing lush fields of every imaginable variety to bloom and blossom. To say the region has history is an understatement. The Nile Delta features prominently in the Old Testament of the Bible where it is called the Land of Goshen. As such it was the place the Israelites called home for 400 years before being led out of Egypt by Moses.. What made the Delta so fertile? Annual flooding. Every year the Nile would burst its banks and flood the plains alongside the river. River-silt loaded with nutrients and minerals would be carried and deposited along the banks. This silt served as a natural fertilizer for the years crops and made the flood a highly anticipated event. Although the 1902 completion of the Aswan dam put an end to the annual flood, to this day the Nile Delta is still ...
