News item October 2015 A total of 19 institutions of higher professional education (HBO) are going to develop part-time courses. For many years, working people who wanted to retrain or update their skills have found that most of the available part-time courses in higher professional education too closely resemble the full-time equivalent: insufficient account is taken of previously acquired knowledge and skills, and of candidates working hours. However, HBO institutions are now being given greater scope to tailor their education provision more closely to students and employers requirements. They have teamed up with the business community to align part-time higher professional education with the needs of working people by offering independent modules, classes in the workplace and a greater degree of customisation. This is the thrust of the progress report sent to parliament in late October 2015 by education minister Jet Bussemaker. The 19 HBO institutions have applied to participate in trials ...

After 18 years of battles, hope, and clichés, I am coming to grips with the fact that this is my MS. All 36 attributes loaded onto the three factors for each of the occupational groups. However, while the content of each factor is not identical there are some similarities. This would suggest that while the broad attributes required are the same for each occupational group the importance and the focus are different for each group. The relation between attributes within the factor may offer some indication as to the focus of teaching and the education programme. For example, the management of self and clinical situations for the technician and paramedic will be different. The technician may need greater emphasis on management of, their workload, their time or their own learning while for the paramedic these skills should have been developed as a technician and therefore there may be more emphasis on organising the workload of others, delegation, and supervision of junior staff.. It is also clear from the data that while all three occupational groups have a factor described as core professional ...

Objective. The objective of this project was to develop core competencies in pain assessment and management for prelicensure health professional education. Such core pain competencies common to all prelicensure health professionals have not been previously reported. Methods. An interprofessional executive committee led a consensus-building process to develop the core competencies. An in-depth literature review was conducted followed by engagement of an interprofessional Competency Advisory Committee to critique competencies through an iterative process. A 2-day summit was held so that consensus could be reached. Results. The consensus-derived competencies were categorized within four domains: multidimensional nature of pain, pain assessment and measurement, management of pain, and context of pain management. These domains address the fundamental concepts and complexity of pain; how pain is observed and assessed; collaborative approaches to treatment options; and application of competencies across the

Methods: The design, delivery, and evaluation of a series of one-day introductory student clinical supervision training workshops for allied health disciplines, nursing, and medicine are considered. Participants evaluated Proctors model of clinical supervision, which was expanded by the trainers to incorporate diversity and power relations in student supervision. Results: Evaluation results suggest that adapting Proctors model for student clinical ...

For efficiency and potential impact, more research is needed on effective translation of reproductive health-related science into practice. Unless research findings are converted into practice change, the intention of conducting research to inform clinical practice and patient care is lost. To truly improve patient care, it is important to identify professional education platforms that work. This can be accomplished through the development of comprehensive evidence-based guidelines, well-designed continuing education and training programs, and tools to evaluate their implementation. For the development of innovative strategies and solutions, cross-agency and intra-departmental collaboration should be encouraged in order to develop better and more innovative strategies. Currently, different health topics are housed in different agencies or departments, and collaboration seems very challenging. This means, for example, that logically linked topics such as maternal and child health and reproductive ...

Training students in the use of CEREC Blue light LED technology to fabricate chairside tooth colored restorations utilizing two innovative modes of fabricating the restorations Bigeneric Individual and Biogeneric Copy, enhances a students ability to apply this technology. At the New York University College of Dentistry students are trained in both modes to enable better decision making when designing these restorations. Many clinical situations may require that the final restoration of a tooth be an exact copy of a tooth such as when fabricating an indirect tooth colored restoration, a ceramic crown, or when duplicating adjacent teeth in the Esthetic zone. In the Biogeneric Copy mode, a digital picture of the unprepared tooth, and another digital impression of the prepared tooth is taken. The software transfers the occlusal aspects of the tooth in a preoperative condition and enhances the rest of the restoration. The final design of the restoration will be the same as the tooth prior to tooth ...

I told her how I became a believer in the spirituality of the Twelve Steps and how my belief in God delivered me from my symptoms of depression. Now dont get me wrong -my own story is that it took me over a year to finally get free of this noose around my neck. Also, because of my faith in a program and the recovered ...
