News item October 2015 A total of 19 institutions of higher professional education (HBO) are going to develop part-time courses. For many years, working people who wanted to retrain or update their skills have found that most of the available part-time courses in higher professional education too closely resemble the full-time equivalent: insufficient account is taken of previously acquired knowledge and skills, and of candidates working hours. However, HBO institutions are now being given greater scope to tailor their education provision more closely to students and employers requirements. They have teamed up with the business community to align part-time higher professional education with the needs of working people by offering independent modules, classes in the workplace and a greater degree of customisation. This is the thrust of the progress report sent to parliament in late October 2015 by education minister Jet Bussemaker. The 19 HBO institutions have applied to participate in trials ...

The strikingly shiny new building of the University Dentistry Centre (ACTA) is being constructed on the VU campus. The building, which is surrounded by seventies development, has been designed by the Amsterdam architectural office Benthem Crouwel Architekten and is due for completion in the summer of 2010.. ACTA is a partnership between the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and VU University Amsterdam and was previously located on Louwesweg. ACTA is a research and teaching centre and also treats patients. In addition to training student dentists, ACTA also offers postgraduate courses. Because the old building no longer met modern requirements and because greater collaboration with the hospital was desirable, a new location was found next to the VU hospital.. Benthem Crouwel Architekten have combined the various functions - patient care, education and research - in a logistically clear way. The building comprises a seven-storey low-rise section and a seven-storey high-rise structure, the top five ...

All 36 attributes loaded onto the three factors for each of the occupational groups. However, while the content of each factor is not identical there are some similarities. This would suggest that while the broad attributes required are the same for each occupational group the importance and the focus are different for each group. The relation between attributes within the factor may offer some indication as to the focus of teaching and the education programme. For example, the management of self and clinical situations for the technician and paramedic will be different. The technician may need greater emphasis on management of, their workload, their time or their own learning while for the paramedic these skills should have been developed as a technician and therefore there may be more emphasis on organising the workload of others, delegation, and supervision of junior staff.. It is also clear from the data that while all three occupational groups have a factor described as core professional ...

Objective. The objective of this project was to develop core competencies in pain assessment and management for prelicensure health professional education. Such core pain competencies common to all prelicensure health professionals have not been previously reported. Methods. An interprofessional executive committee led a consensus-building process to develop the core competencies. An in-depth literature review was conducted followed by engagement of an interprofessional Competency Advisory Committee to critique competencies through an iterative process. A 2-day summit was held so that consensus could be reached. Results. The consensus-derived competencies were categorized within four domains: multidimensional nature of pain, pain assessment and measurement, management of pain, and context of pain management. These domains address the fundamental concepts and complexity of pain; how pain is observed and assessed; collaborative approaches to treatment options; and application of competencies across the

Background: As a response to an Australian shortage of clinical health, nursing, and medical placements, Commonwealth Government funding has been directed to expand student training opportunities and increase the competence and number of available clinical supervisors. This paper evaluates the application of a particular supervision training model for this purpose. It considers the models suitability and relevance across professions and its impact on supervisory knowledge, skills, and values as well as the intention to supervise students. Methods: The design, delivery, and evaluation of a series of one-day introductory student clinical supervision training workshops for allied health disciplines, nursing, and medicine are considered. Participants evaluated Proctors model of clinical supervision, which was expanded by the trainers to incorporate diversity and power relations in student supervision. Results: Evaluation results suggest that adapting Proctors model for student clinical ...

M: What kind of job opportunities are available to a CMA student after completing the course?. S: The CMA field is very diverse. Many students go on to work in physicians offices, but there are so many different types of offices they can work in. They can work in anything from cardiovascular to respiratory, ob-gyn to pediatrics. The possibilities are endless! Any type of doctors office that is out there is one they can work in. Hospitals usually have more CNAs and patient care techs; while patient care techs are like CMAs, there are a few things they dont do that CMAs do because hospitals are more specialized. Patient care techs mainly focus on working closely with patients and providing them with basic care (alongside nurses). However, a medical assistant is trained in both clinical and administrative work and often focuses on various tasks in the exam room, front office, and beyond. CMAs give immunizations, patient care, patient education, patient work, complete lab work, etc. Its not ...

For efficiency and potential impact, more research is needed on effective translation of reproductive health-related science into practice. Unless research findings are converted into practice change, the intention of conducting research to inform clinical practice and patient care is lost. To truly improve patient care, it is important to identify professional education platforms that work. This can be accomplished through the development of comprehensive evidence-based guidelines, well-designed continuing education and training programs, and tools to evaluate their implementation. For the development of innovative strategies and solutions, cross-agency and intra-departmental collaboration should be encouraged in order to develop better and more innovative strategies. Currently, different health topics are housed in different agencies or departments, and collaboration seems very challenging. This means, for example, that logically linked topics such as maternal and child health and reproductive ...
