Iris messaged me that there is a new UPDATE: MORE Good News: So I suppose I should update from our visit yesterday/today. Not much to say really. Tried breastfeeding yesterday and he did better than expected. Hes been having more breathing alarms lately but found out that was because he was doing so good they tried taking him off his caffeine and that is out of his system now, so they turning it back on. Oh, and the nurse today mentioned that his weekly head ultrasounds are starting to show creases in his brain, which is a very good sign. Still not normal but definitely a lot better than they originally thought.. Both the breastfeeding progress and the creases are tremendous news ...

OBJECTIVE: This article assesses whether routine, screening head ultrasound (HUS) studies performed at 7 to 14 postnatal days for premature infants are followed by clinical interventions. TY - JOUR. T1 - Optimising ultrasonography in rheumatology. AU - Keen, Helen. AU - Wakefield, R.J.. AU - Conaghan, P.G.. PY - 2014. Y1 - 2014. N2 - Ultrasonography is an imaging modality that has been utilised in clinical medicine since the 1950s. However, application to joints and rheumatic disease was delayed until appropriate advances in technology made it feasible. Since the 1990s, rheumatologists have embraced ultrasonography as a useful clinical tool and it has increasingly been applied in routine practice. Initial criticism correctly focused on a lack of validity data, recognition that this modality is highly user-dependent and that reliability was not established. In response, the rheumatological community identified relevant pathologies to study, starting with synovitis in rheumatoid arthritis, and set about defining the ultrasound abnormalities, followed by demonstrating the validity, reproducibility and responsiveness of these measures. Much work is now ongoing in the areas of ...

Real-time sonography is necessary to confirm the presence of fetal life through observation of cardiac activity and active movement. The choice of transducer frequency is a trade-off between beam penetration and resolution. With modern equipment, 3- to 5-MHz abdominal transducers allow sufficient penetration in most patients while providing adequate resolution. A lower-frequency transducer (2 to 2.25 MHz) may be needed to provide adequate penetration for abdominal imaging in an obese patient. During early pregnancy, a 5-MHz abdominal transducer or a 5- to 10-MHz or greater vaginal transducer may provide superior resolution while still allowing adequate penetration.. VII. Fetal Safety. Diagnostic ultrasound studies of the fetus are generally considered to be safe during pregnancy. This diagnostic procedure should be performed only when there is a valid medical indication, and the lowest possible ultrasonic exposure setting should be used to gain the necessary diagnostic information under the as ...

Prior to the neurological examination, the neurologist gains information about the history of the patients problem by reviewing the referring veterinarians findings (submitted on the Referral Form) and the information the owner provides (submitted on the Patient Registration Form). Neurological diseases tend to have a species, age, breed, and occasionally sex predilection. These details, along with information about the onset, course and duration of the primary complaint, not only help describe the type of condition and possible causes of the problem, but also help confirm that the problem is indeed a neurological disorder.. ...

The place of ultrasonography in the evaluation of the gastrointestinal tract has greatly increased over the past 30 years. The normal ultrasonographic anatomy as well as the main features such as wall thickness, layering, contents, extension/location of the lesion(s) used to evaluate GI diseases are presented.. Technique and Preparation. Animals are scanned in dorsal recumbency, but other positions such as right or left recumbency or standing position are used, if needed, to optimize an acoustic window by displacing the air or by moving intraluminal fluid to the region of interest. Left lateral recumbency helps with the evaluation of the fundus, while right lateral recumbency improves the evaluation of the pylorus. The standing position is most appropriate for evaluating the ventral aspect of the pylorus and body of the stomach. However, the results of these positional studies also depend on the dogs conformation, the degree of stomach dilation and the nature of gastric contents.. High ...

Any fold whose form is convex upward is an antiform. Antiforms containing progressively younger rocks from their core outwards are anticlines.. An anticline or antiform has a crest, which is the highest point on a given stratum along the top of the fold. A hinge in an anticline is the locus of maximum curvature or bending in a given stratum in the fold. An axis is an imaginary line connecting the hinges in the different strata in a two-dimensional cross-section through the anticline. Connecting the hinges or points of maximum curvature in the different layers in three dimensions produces an axial plane or axial surface. In a symmetrical anticline, a surface trace of the axial plane coincides with the crest. With an asymmetrical anticline, the surface trace of the axial plane or axis will be offset from the crest toward the steeper flank of the fold. Anoverturned anticline is an asymmetrical anticline with a flank or limb that has been tilted beyond perpendicular so that the beds in that limb are ...
An analysis is presented of 79 children under the age of 15 years suffering from benign intracranial hypertension. The commonest predisposing factor was chronic middle-ear disease which was found in 39%. Headache was the presenting symptom in 57% followed in order of frequency by earache, blurred or double vision, and vomiting. Papilloedema was present at some stage in 95%. Contrast radiography was regarded as mandatory in order to exclude a space-occupying lesion, the procedure of choice being ventriculography. A case is made for considering, as alternative procedures, echoencephalography or angiography. Treatment was limited to lumbar puncture and the prognosis was uniformly good. Nevertheless vigilance must be maintained because of the risk of permanent damage to vision from persistent papilloedema.. ...
