In the wild, most nutria probably live less than 3 years; captive animals, however, may live 15 to 20 years. Predation, disease and parasitism, water level fluctuations, habitat quality, highway traffic, and weather extremes affect mortality. Annual mortality of nutria is between 60% and 80%. Predators of nutria include humans (through regulated harvest), alligators (Alligator mississippiensis), garfish (Lepisosteus spp.), bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), and other birds of prey, turtles, snakes such as the cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus), and several carnivorous mammals. Nutria densities vary greatly. In Louisiana, autumn densities of about 18 animals per acre (44/ha) have been found in floating freshwater marshes. In Oregon, summer densities in freshwater marshes may be 56 animals per acre (138/ha). Sex ratios range from 0.6 to 1.6 males per female. In summer, nutria live on the ground in dense vegetation, but at other times of the year they use burrows. Burrows may be those ...
Until recently, your chances of actually seeing an eagle along the Upper Delaware were slim. That has changed, thanks to recent cooperative efforts to improve environmental conditions and to re-establish the bald eagle in the eastern United States. After nearly disappearing from most of the United States decades ago, the bald eagle is now flourishing across the nation and no longer needs the protection of the Endangered Species Act. After removal from the nations list of threatened and endangered species in 2007, the bald eagle continues to be protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Regionally, the Upper Delaware River has played an important role in this population growth. Both New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and Pennsylvania Game Commission have had bald eagle restoration or hacking programs.. With proper technique and planning, winter eagle-watching has become a popular off-season activity in the Upper Delaware ...

This medium-sized eagle is very similar in general appearance to its closest relative the lesser spotted eagle, which shares part of its range. Head and wing coverts are very dark brown and contrast with the generally medium brown plumage; the lesser spotted eagle has a paler head and wing coverts. The head is small for an eagle. The similarities of the greater spotted to the lesser spotted often results in misidentification as being that species. This is further complicated by occasional hybrids between the two species.[5] In winter, it occurs in the range of the Indian spotted eagle (C. hastata). From this recently validated relative, it can be distinguished by the darker color and lighter eye (not darker than the body plumage at distance, lighter at close range), and in juveniles, the strong spotting. It is also a bit larger - though this cannot be reliably estimated in the field - and in the winter quarters prefers wetland habitat. ...

The Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies was excited by last weeks announcement by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service that the American bald eagle population has quadrupled since 2009, from 417 known nesting pairs to 71,400 nesting pairs and an estimated 316,700 individuals today. Bald eagle populations are still growing strong thanks to dedicated resources and partnership efforts! This conservation success story is thanks in part to the State and Tribal Wildlife Grant Program. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Association collaborated on a report that highlights the programs successes since its inception.

In the Northern Channel Islands of California, preservation of paleo-shoreline features both as uplifted landforms onshore and subsided depositional features offshore has allowed precise measurement of late Quaternary fold growth relative to sea level and has helped to disentangle the relative contributions of tectonic forcing and isostatic response. We precisely measured several hundred points on uplifted Pleistocene coastal terraces of Santa Cruz and Anacapa islands, the elevations of which document anticlinal growth of the islands since at least 400 ka. We also interpreted a dense grid of seismic-reflection profiles that image a complex of eustatic lowstand deltas that record regional subsidence surrounding the uplifting structure. We combined onshore uplift with offshore subsidence measurements to produce a quantitative mass balance of structural growth since 400 ka.. The data outlined above were then used to test the hypothesis that subsidence around the Northern Channel Islands represents ...

Two people who spoke with reporters said COVID symptoms for their relatives were mild or nonexistent, though they had tested positive. One individual, who also requested anonymity, was frustrated that she hadnt been able to arrange a video phone call since February; her relative is unresponsive with dementia, and she wants to see her. Dominic James scored 16 points and Jerel McNeal stole a pass and drove nearly the length of the floor to make a layup at the buzzer Sunday to give No. 15 Marquette a 70-68 victory over South Florida. James made a difficult layup in heavy traffic to tie the score with 15 seconds remaining, then McNeal provided his heroics after South Florida called a timeout to set up a potential game-winning play with 9 seconds left. McHugh Mattis inbounded the ball to Howard, who was trying to get the ball to Melvin Buckley when McNeal made the steal and dribbled upcourt. Howard hustled back to get defensive position under the basket, but was unable to stop McNeal from scoring. /| |meta property=og:type content=article /| |meta property=fb:app_id content=272036069486480 /| |meta property=og:title content=McNeal Lifts No. 15 Marquette Over USF at the Buzzer /| |meta property=og:description content=Dominic James scored 16 points and Jerel McNeal stole a pass and drove nearly the length of the floor to

DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL. Division of Fish and Wildlife. Statutory Authority: 7 Delaware Code, Section 102(a) (7 Del.C. §102(a)). 7 DE Admin. Code 3901. PROPOSED. REGISTER NOTICE. SAN # 2008-04. 1. TITLE OF THE REGULATION:. 3901 Wildlife, 19.0 Bald Eagle Protection. 2. BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF THE SUBJECT, SUBSTANCE AND ISSUES:. The purpose of this action is to ensure that Delawares Bald Eagle population persists after protection from the federal Endangered Species Act was terminated on 8 August 2007. Bald eagles are very sensitive to disturbance which may result in failure of nests or abandonment of nest sites. In Delaware, the acreage of development in proximity to current nest sites is proposed to double in the next five years. Scientific studies from this region show eagles require significant no-disturbance buffers around their nests in order to persist. The purpose of this regulation is to maintain the same level of protection to eagle nest sites that was in ...

singlepic id=311 w=216 h=290 float=left]Six California Condors, among the most endangered birds in the world, have recently been recovered suffering from lead poisoning. Three of these subsequently died from lead poisoning from ammunition, while three others were treated for lead poisoning, according to The Peregrine Funds Condor Recovery Program in Arizona. This brings the total number of California condors killed by lead in the last 11 years to 19.. This tragic news comes as little surprise for those of us engaged in the lead ammunition issue. We expect more condor, eagle, and other bird deaths as long as lead remains an ingredient in bullets and shot used for hunting, said George Fenwick, President of American Bird Conservancy. Ammunition manufacturers have introduced superior non-toxic ammunition both for shotguns and for hunting rifles, and hunters report the newer non-toxic bullets outperform traditional ammunition. The cost of non-toxic ammunition is now the same as for premium lead ...
September 26, 2003 We have just received a belated Peregrine Falcon sighting from August. A viewer who is a delivery driver reported seeing five peregrines on a building at 90 Dey Street in Jersey City. He reported that this building is relatively vacant and is home to a large number of pigeons. It is entirely possible that the 101 Hudson Street falcons were still at least occasionally in the company of their parents at that time. Perhaps through viewer sightings we will be able to increase our knowledge of the dispersal of young falcons. Since Peregrines can wander quite far from their nest site after fledging, there is a lot unknown about exactly how long the young birds stay with their parents and each other before striking out on their own. On the New Jersey hawk watches this past week we have seen a number of juvenile peregrines. Peregrine Falcon migration peaks in the first two weeks of October, and there is nothing quite so glorious as a Peregrine Falcon in flight, sometimes stooping ...
Abstract We first examine how falcons can be integrated into avian tree of life. Then we go one step further and investigate the position of Peregrine Falcons in a comprehensive phylogeny of the falcons (genus Falco), which was reconstructed on the basis of DNA sequences. Whether the 19 subspecies of the Peregrine Falcon can be identified genetically is examined in the next step. Recently, the question of Peregrine Falcons genetics in Central Europe has become of wider interest. Which subspecies was present before the collapse of populations and which currently after various reintroduction projects? Evidence is provided, that Central Europe constitutes a (natural) hybrid zone between F. p. brookei from the Mediterranean and F. p. peregrinus of northern Europe.
To obtain plasma biochemistry values, blood was collected for 47 nesting females of apparently healthy Eretmochelys imbricata sea turtles using sodium heparin as an anticoagulant. Blood samples were collected in April-Jun for two years (nesting season). Hematologic characteristics, including packed cell volume, white blood cell counts, red blood cell count and hemoglobin level; and plasma chemistry values, including creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, triglyceride, total cholesterol, and glucose were measured. The data generated from this study may be useful for clinical assessment of health and disease of wild hawksbill sea turtles on nearshore habitats in the Gulf of Mexico, thus contributing to a conservation of this species.. ...
Most descriptions of food utilized by Peregrine Falcons (Falco peregrinus) list birds as the primary food source. Here, I report on an adult female Peregrine Falcon that learned how to acquire fish and then continually exploited this unusual source of food to feed her young.La mayoría de las descripciones del alimento utilizado por el Halcón Peregrino (Falco peregrinus) incluyen a las aves como la fuente principal de alimento. This local death in our community is an unfortunate case, stated Dr. Munday. It is a sad reminder of the seriousness of tickborne illnesses and the importance of prevention and treatment. Avoiding tick bites is the best way to avoid getting diseases such Rocky Mountain ...

As of 6:15 pm Saturday night, we continue the vigil awaiting the hatching of the first falcon egg! In the worth noting department: from time to time, the birds stand up and rotate the eggs. This is an important chore, as it ensures that the eggs are uniformly warmed and prevents the embryos from sticking to their shell, which could be a problem during hatching.. An egg is an amazing creation. It is fragile enough for a tiny chick to peck its way out, yet strong enough to withstand the weight of an incubating adult. That wasnt always true. According to the staff at the Peregrine Fund in Idaho, in the 1960s, scientists discovered that the pesticide DDT caused physiological problems in female Peregrine Falcons, resulting in thin-shelled eggs that broke during incubation.. DDT was banned in 1972 and The Peregrine Fund helped recover this once-endangered species with captive breeding and releases to the wild. It was one of the most successful conservation efforts in history!. ...
Jan 3: a very windy day (even for Coto Donana standards, according to Claudio), but almost no rain and long breaks of sunshine. Claudio drove us, by way of a long detour NW of the park, to the area of Lucio Cerrado Garrido and Canada Mayor. Without his jeep we would never get there: the roads were often flooded and very bumpy and the vehicle proved to be a very useful windscreen. Without his guidance we would never see all the birds we saw. Greylag Geese were everywhere and the most common gull was the Lesser Black-backed. The first rarities were 7 Black Storks and in the same area we saw also several shorebirds and a flying Squacco Heron. By the roadside we saw a small party (adults and juveniles) of Purple Gallinules and a single Stone- curlew. later we had our first Imperial Eagles: 1 juvenile and 2 immatures were hunting along a small strip of land which was surrounded by water. Several unlucky rabbits were trapped there and the hunting was easy and rewarding for the young eagles. An Osprey ...
The bald eagle was mad. Hunkered down in a corner of a stable at the Baltimore Zoos animal hospital, the bird glared at anyone who had the temerity to peer through the bars.It wasnt bad enough

The extensive cliffs, shrub-steppe, and riparian cottonwood forests provide a rich mixture of habitats. Particularly important are the immense basalt cliffs and talus slopes interspersed with shrub-steppe vegetation, which support a diverse assemblage of birds associated with this habitat, including White-throated Swift, Cliff Swallow, Rock Wren, Canyon Wren, and 21 species of raptors. Ten of these raptor species breed in and around the canyon, including two pairs of Golden Eagles and five pairs of Prairie Falcons. The cliffs and shrub-steppe habitat also support dense populations of Red-tailed Hawks, American Kestrels, and Great-horned Owls. Up to 20 Bald Eagles winter along the river, subsisting primarily on whitefish. The riparian habitats along the river and its tributaries support a high diversity and abundance of songbirds ...

The predicted climate change causes deep concerns on the effects of increasing temperatures and changing precipitation patterns on species viability and, in turn, on biodiversity. Models of Population Viability Analysis (PVA) provide a powerful tool to assess the risk of species extinction. However, most PVA models do not take into account the potential effects of behavioural adaptations. Organisms might adapt to new environmental situations and thereby mitigate negative effects of climate change. To demonstrate such mitigation effects, we use an existing PVA model describing a population of the tawny eagle (Aquila rapax) in the southern Kalahari. This model does not include behavioural adaptations. We develop a new model by assuming that the birds enlarge their average territory size to compensate for lower amounts of precipitation. Here, we found the predicted increase in risk of extinction due to climate change to be much lower than in the original model. However, this buffering of climate ...
Defective wiring at the workplace is the most common cause of burns and electrocution. Some classes of workers such as utility workers, electricians, and construction workers are at the highest risk of electrocution. If an employer fails to implement safety programs and follow OSHA regulations, construction managers, property owners, and contractors may be held liable for negligence.. If a work-related electrical injury or electrocution is caused by a defective product such as a tool or electrical appliance, then a third-party personal injury claim may be filed in addition to a workers compensation claim. There are several hazards that increase the chances of electrocutions at the workplace. These include:. ...

this is what im trying to tell you this is from my bible. priscilla and her husband aquila were tent makers. it was a good living ,but the work was hards. one good thing was they got to meet a lot of people. pracills enjoyed the end of the day when all the workers sit down and share stories. one fello they met was a man named paul.paul tallked about jesus. he explained how JESUS died and came back to life and that after he went back to HEAVEN HE sent the Holy Spirit to help Christians. prascilla learned a lot from paul, but sometimes what paul said made her feel she wasnt doing her partin spreading the good news.they promesed to be braver in spreading the good news. when they were in Ephesus a man named appolos was teaching and she went to listen. then told aquila. apollos is teaching about Johns baptisim but he dosnt know the rest. why didnt you tell him. i didnt want to imbarris him. we can invite him over for dinner when apollos got there they told him the rest of the story!. do you see ...
House churches in the New Testament were not independent of each other. Rather, they were part of a larger unit. The house church and the larger gathering of several house churches existed side by side in early Christianity. In other words, individual believers and house churches considered themselves part of a greater citywide church.. Paul specifically says that he taught publically and from house-to-house (Acts 20:20). In 1 Corinthians 16:19 Paul says, The churches in the province of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Priscilla greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets at their house. The larger group gathering is seen in Pauls greeting from all the churches in Asia, but then he specifically mentions the house church of Aquila and Priscilla and their particular greetings to the churches. In other words, there were Christians in Ephesus who did not meet at Priscilla and Aquilas home. The evidence points to a plurality of house churches there.. In the Jerusalem ...
I encourage qualified and faithful men who lead in the Church to teach the Word clearly and unapologetically. I encourage all you faithful Priscillas to recognize the unparalleled worth of offering yourselves freely to the glory of God in those things for which he has blessed and equipped you. You do not have to teach men in the church to be a faithful servant of Christ. For these Priscillas we have plenty of room in our churches.. In a recent post on the White Horse Inn blog entitled Is There a Place for Priscilla in our Churches?, Rachel Green Miller begins and ends with the following questions: Should women teach theology to men? and Where is the place for Priscilla in our churches? Since I have been doing a lot of reading and thinking about these things, the topic came up in discussion the other day at lunch with my family. After I mentioned the blog post to my wife and some of my thoughts about it, my seven-year-old son quipped, We have a Priscilla in our church. He is right, you ...
The Imperial County Public Health Department has confirmed three cases of West Nile virus in local residents.  Two cases were identified as neuroinvasive illness, the most severe form of West Nile virus (WNV).  The symptoms involved in all three cases occurred from mid-July through late August. The cases do not have relation to each other and the median age of the individuals is 68 years.  All three have been released from care and are now recovering.  “These reports of West Nile virus serve as a reminder of the importance of taking precautions against mosquito bites,” said Dr. Stephen Munday, Health Officer for Imperial County. “Mosquitoes infected with viruses such as WNV and St. Louis encephalitis are currently active in Imperial County. We urge everyone to take simple steps to eliminate mosquito breeding sources around their homes in order to protect themselves, their loved ones, and communities.” Those infected with West Nile virus do not experience any

Seabird mortality in fisheries is a global problem and a major driver of the continued decline of many seabird populations. Unless appropriate mitigation is in place, longline fishing can cause high levels of seabird mortality. Here we describe the development and implementation of seabird mitigation measures in the Patagonian toothfish Dissostichus eleginoides fishery around the sub-Antarctic islands of South Georgia (CCAMLR Subarea 48.3), since the fishery began in the late 1980s. The initial high bycatch mortality (,5000 birds / 0.59 birds per 1000 hooks in 1996) has been reduced to negligible levels (,0.01 per 1000 hooks) through implementation of a suite of mitigation measures and a high level of compliance. The principal species killed in the fishery were black-browed albatross and white-chinned petrels, with most of the mortality occurring in April and early May. Whilst the synchronous introduction of much of the mitigation makes it is difficult to confirm which measures have been most ...

Globally, the ammunition market was valued at USD 9,235.8 million in 2012 and is forecast to grow at a CAGR of 1.3% from 2013 - 2019. Different types of munitions are used by defense departments, federal and private security agencies, R&D divisions and others. Among all, highest revenue share was recorded by the defense sector in 2012, which was accounted for more than 50% of revenue share. This is due to the increased responsibilities of state defense departments for prevention of terrorist attacks and response attentiveness. In order to reinforce security initiative and to stay battle ready, defense organizations worldwide adopt different kinds of ammunitions such as missiles, small arms ammunition, torpedoes, warheads and grenades among others. Among these ammunition products, small arm ammunition is emerging as leading segment which together with missiles and warheads accounted for 54.2% of the market share in 2012 ...
