In this fixed cohort of automotive manufacturing workers, the prevalence of upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders was similar at follow up to that found in the baseline survey of the same population. MSD cases were defined both on the basis of symptoms uniquely and also by the combination of symptoms plus physical examination findings. Although disorders by symptoms alone were slightly more frequent than disorders confirmed by physical examination, the two case types had quite similar risk factors. The cumulative incidence of new disorders was strongly associated with previously assessed level of exposure to combined ergonomic stressors affecting the upper extremity. OBJECTIVE To define the prevalence, risk factors, and age at diagnosis of endocrinopathies in beta-thalassemia major (BTM) in Northwest Saudi Arabia. METHODS This retrospective cross-sectional study included patients with BTM attending a combined endocrine-hematology clinic in Al-Madinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from March 2009 to December 2010. Clinical and biochemical data from the initial clinic visits were used to define the prevalence and age of diagnosis of endocrinopathies. Demographic and laboratory variables were analyzed to identify significant risk factors. RESULTS Eighty-one patients (42 males), aged 2-28 years were screened. Thirty-eight of them (46.9%) had at least one endocrinopathy. Of these, 28.9% (11/38) were aged less than 10 years. Our objective was to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes and confidence of Canadian Otolaryngology - Head and Neck surgery residents in managing Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) patients. An anonymous, online, cross-sectional survey was distributed to all current Canadian Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery residents according to the Dillman Tailored Design Method in English and French. The previously validated OSA Knowledge and Attitudes (OSAKA) questionnaire was administered, along with questions exploring resident confidence levels with performing OSA surgeries. Previous work has shown an association between restricted wrist range of motion (ROM) and upper extremity musculoskeletal disorders in computer users. We compared the prevalence of MRI-identified wrist abnormalities and wrist ROM between asymptomatic and symptomatic computer users. MR images at 1.5 T of both wrists were obtained from 10 asymptomatic controls (8 F, 2 M) and 14 computer users (10 F, 4 M) with chronic wrist pain (10 bilateral; 4 right-side). Maximum wrist range of motion in flexion and radioulnar deviation was measured with an electrogoniometer. Extraosseous ganglia were identified in 66.6% of asymptomatic wrists and in 75% of symptomatic wrists. The American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma criteria for level I trauma center verification include an annual number of at least 1,200 patients, of which at least 240 must have an ISS ,15 [8]. Before the establishment of the regional trauma center, there were about 250 patients with severe trauma (ISS ,15) annually in GMC Trauma Center. Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain and generalised joint hypermobility (GJH) among professional jazz musicians in Swedish big bands and to investigate possible associations between GJH and pain.Methods: An existing health questionnaire developed for professional orchestra musicians, including the 5-part questionnaire for GJH [1], the standardised Nordic questionnaire for musculoskeletal pain disorders [2] and additional specific questions about playing related musculoskeletal pain (PRMD), was presented to jazz musicians employed at three professional Swedish big bands. Thirty musicians (86%) participated, aged 45 (±10) years, only two (7%) of the participants were women.Results: The total prevalence of musculoskeletal pain within the previous 12 months was 91%, while total point prevalence was 47%.
