Diphenoxylate is rapidly and extensively metabolized in man by ester hydrolysis to diphenoxylic acid (difenoxine), which is biologically active and the major metabolite in the blood. After a 5-mg oral dose of carbon-14 labeled diphenoxylate hydrochloride in ethanolic solution was given to three healthy volunteers, an average of 14% of the drug plus its metabolites was excreted in the urine and 49% in the feces over a four-day period. Urinary excretion of the unmetabolized drug constituted less than 1% of the dose, and diphenoxylic acid plus its glucuronide conjugate constituted about 6% of the dose. In a 16-subject crossover bioavailability study, a linear relationship in the dose range of 2.5 to 10 mg was found between the dose of diphenoxylate hydrochloride (given as diphenoxylate hydrochloride liquid) and the peak plasma concentration, the area under the plasma concentration-time curve, and the amount of diphenoxylic acid excreted in the urine. In the same study the bioavailability of the ...
In the event of overdose, induction of vomiting, gastric lavage, establishment of a patent airway, and possibly mechanically assisted respiration are advised. In vitro and animal studies indicate that activated charcoal may significantly decrease the bioavailability of diphenoxylate. In non-comatose patients, a slurry of 100 g of activated charcoal can be administered immediately after the induction of vomiting or gastric lavage.. A pure narcotic antagonist (e.g., naloxone) should be used in the treatment of respiratory depression caused by diphenoxylate hydrochloride and atropine sulfate. When a narcotic antagonist is administered intravenously, the onset of action is generally apparent within 2 minutes. It may also be administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly, providing a slightly less rapid onset of action but a more prolonged effect.. To counteract respiratory depression caused by diphenoxylate/atropine overdosage, the following dosage schedule for the narcotic antagonist naloxone ...

Thats what I thought I was going on Kathy, people are taking things the wrong way. Im sure everyone on this site tries their best to help others, without stepping on anyones toes in the process. Misunderstandings happen, and now we gotta do our best to minimize them, if for anything not to confuse new members. Everybody love everybody?!
I got a sudden attack of diarrhoea in Dubai so I dashed into a mall and asked a chemist for Lomotil. He told me there was no Lomotil in the country (!) and gave me something that he said would sort me out. I took it and within 15 minutes was running for the bogs again.... and again.... and again.... and when I eventually felt brave enough to leave the mall and go back to my hotel I looked the drug up on Google and discovered that the barsteward had given me was Motilium, which is used to encourage the stomach to empty in the case of bloating! It certainly did the trick anyway, I didnt go for about three days after that. ...

I had a good result with a 1-step in 2002. I dont recall the exact frequency, but I was in fine shape to fly home after three or four weeks, and return to (desk) work in six weeks. I did use Lomotil quite regularly in the beginning, as well as Metamucil, and I had good success with trying to hold it in for longer and longer intervals to stretch the pouch. How old is your son? That can affect what approaches are practical.

Difenoxin (Motofen, R-15403) is an opioid drug used, often in combination with atropine, to treat diarrhea. It is the principal metabolite of diphenoxylate. Difenoxin crosses the blood brain barrier and induces some euphoria; it is often sold with or administered with atropine to reduce the potential for abuse and overdose. At high doses there are strong CNS effects and the atropine at such high doses causes typical anticholinergic side effects, such as anxiety, dysphoria, and delirium. Excessive use or overdose causes constipation and can promote development of megacolon as well as classic symptoms of overdose including potentially lethal respiratory depression. In the 1990s its use in children was restricted in many countries due to the CNS side effects, which included anorexia, nausea and vomiting, headache, drowsiness, confusion, insomnia, dizziness, restlessness, euphoria and depression. Difenoxin has a high peripheral/central actions ratio, working primarily on various opioid receptors in ...
Pethidine, also known as meperidine and sold under the brand name Demerol among others, is a synthetic opioid pain medication of the phenylpiperidine class. Synthesized in 1939 as a potential anticholinergic agent by the German chemist Otto Eisleb, its analgesic properties were first recognized by Otto Schaumann while working for IG Farben, Germany. Pethidine is the prototype of a large family of analgesics including the pethidine 4-phenylpiperidines (piminodine, anileridine and others), the prodines (alphaprodine, MPPP, etc.), bemidones (ketobemidone, etc.) and others more distant, including diphenoxylate and analogues. Pethidine is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe pain, and is delivered as a hydrochloride salt in tablets, as a syrup, or by intramuscular, subcutaneous, or intravenous injection. For much of the 20th century, pethidine was the opioid of choice for many physicians; in 1975, 60% of doctors prescribed it for acute pain and 22% for chronic severe pain. Compared with ...
When the best athletes in the world compete on a global stage with 4 billion people (projected for the 2012 summer games) watching, they look for every edge. After they have stretched their physical abilities to the limit, they may feel they need a little more where the difference between gold and silver can be 100th of a second. Some turn to drugs to obtain that extra boost. In 1967, The International Olympic Committee (IOC) banned performance steroid use. To control doping (as it is called), the IOC developed a testing regimen. The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) initiated mandatory drug testing in 1985. Drugs that are banned by the IOC and the USOC include:. Stimulants: Prescription illicit no-prescription Beta-2-agonists, Strychnine. Acid bowel movements can be an imbalance in the intestinal flora. I have a C. Diff. imbalance that flairs if I eat to much sugar. This makes me have diarrhea. and then acid bowel movements. Lomotil works for me to control the loose stool. I need to take antibiotics and Probiotics to kill the C.Diff and repopulate my colon with good flora.. I jump in the shower when posible to really wash my hiney to remove the acid. I tried baby wipes, creams, etc.... They helped but the soap and water works the best for me. I even installed a Bidet in one of our bathrooms. (It is cold, so I still prefer to jump in the shower.). I also use a lidocane cream to help ease the swelling and numb my hiney. The shower is still the best, the cream just helps ease the pain. If the pain is real bad, I also have pain pills. (I really do not like the pan pills, but sometimes there is no other option.). Hopefully you will find something that will work for you!. Best Always, mike ...
