The oxygen partial pressure equilibrated with the melts was measured by an EMF method. The distribution ratios were defined as the weight ratios of Sn, Sb, and Bi in PbO divided by those in the Ag-Pb phase. To study the character of P fractions and acid phosphatase in leaf, we conducted a pot experiment of super-low P (25 mg·kg-1 soil), low P (50 mg·kg-1 soil) and normal P (75 mg·kg-1 soil) in P-efficient barley (DH110, DH147) and P-inefficient barley (DH49). Inorganic P concentration was reduced significantly by low P stress, except for insoluble phosphate, in leaves of barley. The nucleic P concentration in upper leaves was higher in P-efficient than P-inefficient barley, but the nucleic P concentration in bottom leaves was lower; only 18.4% to 91.4% of that in P-inefficient barley. In the present study a decrease in the plasma concentration of Ile, Val, Phe, Tyr, Met, Ala, Pro and Gly was observed after the intraperitoneal injection of Leu to weanling rats. The extraction equilibrium of indium(III) from a nitric acid solution using di(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) as an acidic extractant of organophosphorus compounds dissolved in kerosene was studied. By graphical and numerical analysis, the compositions of indium-D2EHPA complexes in organic phase and stoichiometry of the extraction reaction were examined. Nitric acid solutions with various indium concentrations at 25 °C were used to obtain the equilibrium constant of InR3 in the organic phase. The experimental results showed that the extraction distribution ratios of indium(III) between the organic phase and the aqueous solution increased when either the pH value of the aqueous solution and/or the concentration of the organic phase extractant increased. Finally, the recovery efficiency of indium(III) in nitric acid was measured.

The properties of the thiocyanate ligand and its applicability in actinide/lanthanide group separations has been well known since 1970. The solvent extraction of Y(III), Am(III), and selected lanthanides (La, Eu, Lu) by tri-n-butyl phosphate, TBP, have been tested with other pseudohalide ligands such as OCN-, N3-, NCS- and NCSe-. It was found that extraction of the NCS- and NCSe- complexes of Ln and An into the organic phase is very efficient but extraction of the OCN- and N3- complexes is very low. The partition of HNCS, HOCN, and HN3 acids between the organic (TBP) and the aqueous phase might be expected to serve, to a first approximation, as a model of the partition of the respective complexes. There are currently no well-documented pharmacological treatments that delay normal human aging and extend human lifespan. To identify drugs that can delay aging, we chose to screen drugs used to treat a variety of human diseases, reasoning that these compounds might have effects on aging that had not been previously identified. After screening about 20 compounds, we identified one drug that significantly extended C. elegans life span, the anticonvulsant medication ethosuximide. Screening drugs with a related structure or function identified two additional compounds that extend lifespan, trimethadione and 3,3-diethyl-2-pyrrolidinone. Ethosuximide and trimethadione are approved for human use; these compounds are used to treat absence seizures, a form of epilepsy. These drugs increase mean and maximum life span of C. elegans and delay age-related declines of physiological processes, indicating that these compounds retard the aging process. Mutations in a voltage-gated sodium channel (SCN1A) result in Dravet Syndrome (DS), a catastrophic childhood epilepsy. Zebrafish with a mutation in scn1Lab recapitulate salient phenotypes associated with DS including seizures, early fatality and resistance to antiepileptic drugs. To discover new drug candidates for DS, we screened a chemical library of ∼1,000 compounds and identified four compounds that rescued the behavioral seizure component, including one compound (dimethadione) that suppressed associated electrographic seizure activity. Fenfluramine, but not Huperzine A, also showed antiepileptic activity in our zebrafish assays. The effectiveness of compounds that block neuronal calcium current (dimethadione) or enhance serotonin signaling (fenfluramine) in our zebrafish model suggests these may be important therapeutic targets in patients with DS.
