Accurate detection of the myocardial infarction (MI) area is crucial for early diagnosis planning and follow-up management. In this study, we propose an end-to-end deep-learning algorithm framework (OF-RNN ) to accurately detect the MI area at the pixel level. Our OFRNN consists of three different function layers: the heart localization layers, which can accurately and automatically crop the region-of-interest (ROI) sequences, including the left ventricle, using the whole cardiac magnetic resonance image sequences; the motion statistical layers, which are used to build a time-series architecture to capture two types of motion features (at the pixel-level) by integrating the local motion features generated by long short-term memory-recurrent neural networks and the global motion features generated by deep optical flows from the whole ROI sequence, which can effectively characterize myocardial physiologic function; and the fully connected discriminate layers, which use stacked auto-encoders to further

Assessment of the oxygen and carbon dioxide content of expired air during exercise is critical for determining cardiorespiratory status. The purpose of this study was to compare the new portable metabolic analyzer PNOE with COSMED - Quark CPET, a previously validated stationary metabolic cart.Methods: A total of 22 subjects (17 male and 5 female) aged 32.3 ± 11.1 years took part in the study. Breath by breath gas exchange was measured by both devices during a four-stage incremental protocol on a cycle ergometer. We consider the time dependent neutron diffusion equation for one energy group in cylinder coordinates, assuming translational symmetry along the cylinder axis. This problem for a specific energy group is solved analytically applying the Hankel transform in the radial coordinate r. Our special interest rests in the build-up factor for a time dependent linear neutron source aligned with the cylinder axis, which in the limit of zero decay constant reproduces also the static case. The new approach to solve the diffusion equation by integral transform technique is presented and results for several parameter sets and truncation in the solution for the flux and build-up factor are shown and found to be compatible to those of literature [1,2].

Finding the centerline and estimating the radius of linear structures is a critical first step in many applications, ranging from road delineation in 2D aerial images to modeling blood vessels, lung bronchi, and dendritic arbors in 3D biomedical image stacks. Existing techniques rely either on filters designed to respond to ideal cylindrical structures or on classification techniques. The former tend to become unreliable when the linear structures are very irregular while the latter often has difficulties distinguishing centerline locations from neighboring ones, thus losing accuracy. We solve this problem by reformulating centerline detection in terms of a \emph{regression} problem. We first train regressors to return the distances to the closest centerline in scale-space, and we apply them to the input images or volumes. The centerlines and the corresponding scale then correspond to the regressors local maxima, which can be easily identified. We show that our method outperforms state-of-the-art
