Phthalate esters are ubiquitous environmental pollutants widely used as plasticizers, which have been shown to interfere with both endocrine regulation and development of reproductive organs. In the present study, we examined the impact of diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP) on the proliferation of androgen-sensitive human prostate carcinoma LNCaP cells and related events. Abstract: Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) has been linked to the neural, reproductive and developmental toxicity. We present here a metabolomic study that characterized the metabolic variations associated with the DBP-induced teratogenesis in maternal and fetal mice. DBP at 50 and 300 mg/kg were administrated to pregnant C57 mice, via gastric intubation on gestation day 7-9, respectively. Maternal mice were euthanized on gestation day 16 and examined for fetal development and malformations. Metabolomic study of maternal serum, placenta and fetal brain tissues was performed using gas chromatography time-of-flight mass spectrometry combined with multivariate data analysis (MVDA). The results showed that a 50 mg/kg dose of DBP had no significant effect on fetal development and a 300 mg/kg dose caused embryo resorption and fetal malformations (primarily eye abnormalities and encephalocele). In this study, the magnetic Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8) microspheres were successfully synthesized and applied as an effective sorbent for preconcentration of several typical phthalate esters (PAEs) from environmental water samples. Firstly, the solvothermal treatment method was used for preparation of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. Then, mercaptoacetic acid (MAA) was served as the functionalized chemical to modify Fe3O4 nanoparticles. The Fe3O4@ZIF-8 core-shell microspheres were synthesized through coating the MAA-capped Fe3O4 nanoparticles with ZIF-8. By coupling magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), a reliable, sensitive and cost-effective method for simultaneous determination of five main PAEs including dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethyl phthalate (DEP), di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP), benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), and dioctyl phthalate (DOP) was developed. The kinetics of catalytic dehydration of 1-butanol have been studied on three commercial types of zeolites varied in cage structures, pore sizes, and acidity at 200 - 300 °C. The dehydration reactions were performed in a continuous stirred gas-solid reactor. Butenes and dibutyl ether were the principal products. Both simple power-law and Hougen-Watson types of rate expressions have been used to model the dehydration reactions kinetics. The former satisfactorily correlates the kinetic data procured over all the zeolites except in the case of dibutyl ether formation over ZNa. The Hougen-Watson type of rate expression adequately fitted the rate of formation of both products. The reaction orders with respect to 1-butanol were approximately equal to zero. The kinetic and adsorption parameters were evaluated and satisfactorily correlated as functions of reaction temperature. IQ tests were given to the children at age 7.. Childrens IQ scores were negatively associated with higher maternal phthalate levels. These results show that cold tap water and tap water based beverages constitute a major part of daily fluid intake for pregnant women, and that the majority of tap water intake occurs at home for both unemployed and employed women. However, for employed women some tap water ingestion occurs at work and this should be considered in DBP exposure assessment. Many previous studies on DBPs and adverse birth outcomes have assessed exposure only at the mothers home, e.g. by using trihalomethane concentrations in the water supply of the mothers residence at time of birth.
