The method includes the steps of: receiving indicia identifying one or more regions of interest in a digital medical image; and displaying one or more enhanced views of the regions of interest, the enhanced views being based on diagnostic parameters for the regions of interest and diagnostic parameters corresponding to a particular abnormality.

In one preferred embodiment, a medical diagnostic imaging system is provided comprising a software application, a text file, and a software component that binds to the software application at runtime. The text file and the software component store common data. In the UAE, a recent study by the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi revealed that CaP is the third most common cancer in the UAE, affecting around 313 males out of every 100,000 of the population, making it the fourth most prevalent form of disease in among men in the UAE. Various strategies can be used in the diagnosis of upper gastrointestinal tract bleeding. This study investigates the relevance of anamnestic and clinical findings for the diagnosis of the bleeding source. The authors introduced a computer-aided diagnostic system using Bayes theorem and compared it with clinicians predictions using anamnestic and clinical findings only. There was no difference in the overall accuracy rates, but a difference was observed in the diagnostic behaviors of the two systems. In addition, the discriminatory ability of the computer-aided system, the sharpness of the predictions obtained, and the reliability of the posterior probabilities were analyzed. It is concluded that the clinician and the computer-aided system are not able to discriminate well between the disease categories. Derived classification matrices and probability-based measures show the reasons for the inadequacy of diagnostic information obtainable from the clinical history and physical findings. ...

Such systems, methods and computer program products provide the ability for a subject matter expert, without computer programming skills, to generate a knowledge base consisting of XML code that may be integrated into an automated e-health diagnosis system in order to provide real-time decision support. The subject matter expert may use the present invention, for example, to identify the symptoms that are relevant to a particular diagnosis, weigh symptoms relative to a given diagnosis, detail the rationale for particular decisions, and provide detailed treatment recommendations with regard to each individual diagnosis. The output of this tool may be an XML knowledge base that may be integrated, in a plug and play fashion, with the e-health diagnosis system.
Ocular images play an essential role in ophthalmological diagnoses. Having an imbalanced dataset is an inevitable issue in automated ocular diseases diagnosis; the scarcity of positive samples always tends to result in the misdiagnosis of severe patients during the classification task. Exploring an effective computer-aided diagnostic method to deal with imbalanced ophthalmological dataset is crucial. In this paper, we develop an effective cost-sensitive deep residual convolutional neural network (CS-ResCNN) classifier to diagnose ophthalmic diseases using retro-illumination images. First, the regions of interest (crystalline lens) are automatically identified via twice-applied Canny detection and Hough transformation. Then, the localized zones are fed into the CS-ResCNN to extract high-level features for subsequent use in automatic diagnosis. Second, the impacts of cost factors on the CS-ResCNN are further analyzed using a grid-search procedure to verify that our proposed system is robust and efficient.

Purpose: A novel approach to a computer aided diagnosis system for the Parkinsons disease is proposed. This tool is intended as a supporting tool for physicians, based on fully automated methods that lead to the classification of{sup 123}I-ioflupane SPECT images. Methods: {sup 123}I-ioflupane images from three different databases are used to train the system. The images are intensity and spatially normalized, then subimages are extracted and a 3D gray-level co-occurrence matrix is computed over these subimages, allowing the characterization of the texture using Haralick texture features. Finally, different discrimination estimation methods are used to select a feature vector that can be used to train and test the classifier.
