For years, dental occlusion had largely been a matter of guesswork for dentists. Articulation paper, waxes, pressure indicator pastes, etc. were all dentists had to assess and balance the forces of occlusion. Most of these methods are not sensitive enough to detect simultaneous contact, and none measure both biting time and force. Tekscan met the challenge by developing the T-Scan system. T-Scans grid-based sensor technology proved so successful that Tekscan has applied the same technology to hundreds of other applications, forming Tekscans Medical and Industrial divisions.. ...
Symptoms of fungal eye infections can appear for days or weeks after the fungus infects the eye. Some common symptoms of this type infection are eye redness and pain. You might get an eye discharge or too much tearing. The fungal infection also results getting blurry vision, and it will get light sensitivity. Treatment for fungal eye infection varies. It depends on the kind of infection as well as the severity of the infection. Usually, the doctor will prescribe some anti-fungal eye drops. The doctor may also give anti-fungal medication. This can be a pill, an injection through your vein, or directly injected into your eye. In the most severe cases, doctors may resort to eye surgery ...
A contact sensor for detecting points on a grid where the sensor is being contacted on opposing sides by teeth surfaces or other contacting points. The sensor is especially useful for measuring dental occlusion. The contact sensor includes two sets of parallel electrodes which are each formed on a thin, flexible supporting sheet. The electrodes are separated by a thin, pressure-sensitive resistive coating such as molydenum disulphide. Two such electrode structures are oriented at approximately right angles to create a grid where the intersecting electrodes cross separated by the resistive coatings. Several arrangements of resistive coating over electrodes as disclosed. In the absence of an external force, the material between the electrodes sets provides a high resistance between intersecting electrodes. The resistance between electrode intersections changes as pressure on opposite sides of the intersection changes. The sensor output is dynamic in that the resistance will vary as external pressure is

CMF surgery involves the correction of congenital and acquired deformities of the skull and face. Due to the complex nature of the CMF skeleton, it requires extensive presurgical planning. Unfortunately, the traditional planning methods, e.g. prediction tracings and simulating surgery on stone models have remained unchanged over the last 50 years. Many unwanted surgical outcomes are the result of these deficient methods. To solve these problems, we have developed a Computer-Aided Surgical Simulation (CASS) system. Although it still needs significant improvements, the use of CASS has eliminated most of the limitations of the traditional methods. Unfortunately, it also creates a new problem that the digital establishment of dental occlusion becomes significantly more difficult. The dental articulation is an important step during the planning process to correct preexisting malocclusions or to surgically reestablish a new occlusion. The current gold standard is to utilize stone dental models and ...
It seems like traditional wire braces have been the go-to procedure for the correction of dental occlusions and other orthodontic issues. However, Align Technologys Invisalign system, accepted by the FDA in 1998 and put into the marketplace a year after that, has offered a much more aesthetically pleasing way of correcting jaws by way of transparent molds. The system is a multistage procedure where the dental correction process transitions from the patients current teeth and toward the desired goal. Every so often, the dental practitioner takes another mold of the patients improved jaw(s) in order to create progressively more effective molds.. The inspiration for the Invisalign system of clear braces according to Casler Dental Group in Tulsa OK originates from an observation by Align Technology co-founder Zia Chishti. Zia had previously required dental work and noticed that removing his dental retainer caused his teeth to move back to their misaligned state. This observation, coupled with an ...
It is essential that the selection of treatment for TMJ begins with a careful examination of both the joints and the occlusion. Consultation with a dental professional highly experienced in TMJ is necessary when determining treatment for TMJ. Ideally, your dentist would have expertise in identifying any problems in the relationship between the jaw and the bite, as well as in procedures such as occlusal equilibration.. Dentists use a variety of treatment modalities which may be divided into Phase I andPhase II Therapy. The purpose of Phase I Therapy is to eliminate muscle spasms, TMJ swelling and dislocation (if possible), and generally reduce any type of pain. This treatment usually includes the use of splints, exercises, medication, nutrition therapy, physical therapy, and chiropractic treatment. The purpose of Phase II Therapy is to definitively correct any discrepancies, if necessary, between the upper and lower jaws. Phase II Therapy may include adjustment of the dental occlusion, ...

Relationship between craniocervical orientation and center of force of occulsion in adults. The authors of the study are clinicians in active practice. They took 11 chiropractic patients who were presenting for regular check ups and showed signs of Atlas Displacement Complex. The patients were sent to a neuromuscular dentist to evaluate their bite patterns before and after performing an Atlas Correction. The bite evaluations were performed with a digital force analysis that is able to show unequal force on different parts of the bite.. This unequal force is known in dentistry as dental occlusion. The goal is to allow for equal distribution of the force from your bite throughout the teeth and jaw, which can help people with TMJ pain by decreasing abnormal tension in the jaw muscles.. The patients were tested 2 times before an adjustment and 2 times after an adjustment.. ...

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether vertical facial patterns influence maximal occlusal force (MOF), masticatory muscle electromyographic (EMG) activity, and medial mandibular flexure (MMF). Material and Methods: Seventy-eight dentate subjects were divided into 3 groups by Rickettss analysis: brachyfacial, nnesofacial and dolychofacial. Maximum occlusal force in the molar region was bilaterally measured with a force transducer. The electromyographic activities of the masseter and anterior temporal muscles were recorded during maximal voluntary clenching. Medial mandibular flexure was calculated by subtracting the intermolar distance of maximum opening or protrusion from the distance in the rest position. The data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by Tukeys HSD test. The significance level was set at 5%. Results: Data on maximum occlusal force showed that shorter faces had higher occlusal forces (P,0.0001). Brachyfacial subjects presented higher levels of masseter ...
Introduction: We aimed to determine whether appliance type affects changes in maximum voluntary bite force (MVBF) and the number of occlusal contacts (NOC) during retention, controlling for sex, age, and body mass index. Methods: The sample comprised 176 examinees (70 male, 106 female) aged 14 to 20 years: 30 had maxillary and mandibular Essix retainers, 30 had wrap-around retainers, and 30 had a combination of fixed mandibular canine-to-canine retainers bonded on each tooth separately (double twisted, 0.254 mm in diameter, stainless steel ligature wire) and Essix retainer in the maxillary arch; 86 with normal occlusion were not treated. MVBF and the NOC were measured immediately after removal of preadjusted edgewise appliances (Roth prescription), 6 weeks after that, and after the next 4 weeks. Results: Increases in MVBF and the NOC were demonstrated, but subjects with 2 Essix retainers showed lower values than did the others. Changes were related to type of appliance, sex, and age (P , 0.05) ...
The objective of the study was to compare the acceptability of occlusion among orthodontically treated and untreated adolescents in eight Finnish municipal health centres applying different timing of treatment. A random sample of 16- and 18-year olds (n = 2325) living in these municipalities was invited for a clinical examination, and 1109 adolescents participated. Two calibrated orthodontists blindly examined the participants for the acceptability of occlusion with the Occlusal Morphology and Function Index. The history of orthodontic treatment was elicited by questionnaire. The impact of the history and timing of treatment on the acceptability of occlusion was analysed with logistic regression analysis.. The history of orthodontic treatment decreased the odds for acceptability of morphology [odds ratio (OR) = 0.719, 95 per cent confidence limit (CL), P = 0.016] and acceptability of function (OR = 0.724, 95 per cent CL, P = 0.018). The early timing of treatment increased the odds for ...

It is not possible to repair the ceramic which has chipped from bridge, but still you can discuss this with your dentist who has put this. It is better you go for full ceramic bridges as they are more comfortable and aesthetic looking. Normally when such sort of chip is there in PFM bridge, then you have to go for change of bridge and pay for it as it can be only repaired in the lab and that is possible if the whole bridge comes out as such and this is very difficult and generally the bridge has to be sectioned for removal. for more info on types of bridges you can check this link in our website... http://www.identalhub.com/articlecategory-crowns-bridges-22.aspx. ...

Background Thalassemia is a group of congenital disorders which is characterized by a deficient synthesis of alfa or beta globulin chains in hemoglobin molecules. Due to the problems resulting from changes in face, especially in dento-maxillary regions, such patients require special attention regarding oral health. Thus in this study, we aimed to assess the dento-maxillofacial changes in Beta-thalassemia major (BTM) children and Adolescent patients in Northern Iran. Methods BTM subjects aged 2-15 years and their systemically healthy controls were evaluated in this case-control study. Dento-maxillary changes (spacing, crowding, Posterior cross bite, open bite, deep bite, overjet), dental occlusion, and facial changes (maxillary protrusion, malar prominence, saddle nose and frontal bossing), were evaluated. Data was analyzed SPSS version 22.0. Results There were 66 BTM patients and 66 healthy controls in this study, including 40.9% male and 59.1% females. The average age was 12 ±3.31years. Open bite (P

Dolichofacial subjects presents poorer mechanical advantage, less efficiency in masticatory muscles during mastication and in generating bite force, smaller occlusal contact area and masticatory capacity when compared to brachyfacial individuals.. Wide, bilateral chewing cycles were related to better masticatory performance, however, unilateral chewing was reported to be very common in population, and it has been associated to lateral asymmetry on bite force and occlusal contact area.. It has been reported that dolichofacial subjects need greater muscular effort during mastication when compared to meso and brachyfacial subjects. This may cause functional overloading of weaker masticatory muscles, and may lead to functional asymmetries. ...
A dental articulator has a generally flat fixed base and a pivoted top with trays mounted on both the base and top. The trays have upstanding side wall elements, each tray being dimensioned and spaced for reception of a hard mold member having a generally flat top surface mounting a positive cast or dental model of one of a patients arches. The peripheral edge portions of the hard mold members are dimensioned to be press fitted into the trays to abut juxtaposed ones of side wall elements of the tray. The trays are each slidable in Y or X-y axes with respect to substages connected to the articulator top and articulator base, respectively. Each tray has a straight rear wall, with the remainder of a continuous wall being in straight or curved interior segments. In one embodiment, a series of posts define the internal periphery of the trays.
Numerous experiments have been carried out in order to identify occlusal trauma as an etiologic factor in the pathogenesis of periodontopathies. With Periotest (http://www.periotest.de/) an instrument is available to quantify occlusal overstressing. In 905 teeth and 43 patients with periodontitis the Perio-test values were determined without occlusal contact and under maximum habitual occlusion. Clinical parameters like probing depth, recession, papillary bleeding index, bone resorption and qualitative such as tipped tooth, filling, abrasion facets in the occlusal areas and eccentric abrasion facets were evaluated. Bone resorption was determined based on intraoral radiographs. Multi-ple linear regression calculations between standard Periotest values (Periotest value without tooth contact) or Periotest value differences (the difference between Periotest values under maximum habitual occlusion and without occlusal contact) as dependent variables and the quanti-tative parameters as independent ...
