3M dental impression materials and kits help to efficiently create accurate dental impressions for a variety of applications, including crown, bridge, inlay, overlay and implant impressions.
The present invention provides novel dental impression materials, the cure of which can be monitored visually, comprising: (1) a curable silicone polymer; (2) a crosslinker compound containing silicon-bonded-hydrogen groups; (3) a hydrosilation catalyst; and (4) one or more cure-indicating dyes that exhibit a color change in the presence of a silicon-bonded-hydrogen compound and a hydrosilation catalyst. The cure-indicating dye provides the composition with an initial pre-cure color and a different post-cure color. As a result of this change in color, the state of cure of the impression material can be visually monitored.

Authors: Chandran, Deepa T. , Jagger, Daryll C. , Jagger, Robert G. , Barbour, Michele E. Article Type: Research Article Abstract: Dental impression materials are used to create an inverse replica of the dental hard and soft tissues, and are used in processes such as the fabrication of crowns and bridges. The accuracy and dimensional stability of impression materials are of paramount importance to the accuracy of fit of the resultant prosthesis. Conventional methods for assessing the dimensional stability of impression materials are two-dimensional (2D), and assess shrinkage or expansion between selected fixed points on the impression. In this study, dimensional changes in four impression materials were assessed using an established 2D and an experimental three-dimensional (3D) technique. The former involved …measurement of the distance between reference points on the impression; the latter a contact scanning method for producing a computer map of the impression surface showing localised ...

A method for sterilizing medical single-component or multi-component impression materials that can harden, and a two-component impression material. In a first step of the method, the components of the impression materials that have not hardened are introduced into a primary packaging. In a second step, the primary packagings, with the components contained therein, are sterilized by heat sterilization. In a third step, the sterilized components in the primary packagings are introduced into a secondary packaging. In a fourth step, this secondary packaging is sterilized by means of a suitable gas sterilization, irradiation sterilization, and/or by means of sterilization in an autoclave, so that the activity and the viscosity of the components are not changed.
Town Center Dental is now offering patients a more comfortable, convenient alternative to the dreaded goo associated with dental impressions. The iTero Intraoral Scanner allows doctors to take a 3-D digital scan, or picture, of a patients teeth and bite, rather than using a viscous impression material. Not only is the iTero Intraoral Scanner significantly more patient-friendly, but it also offers increased precision and eliminates the risks of gagging or swallowing excess impression gel.. Prior to receiving braces, retainers or Invisalign, a patient must have impressions taken of his or her existing smile in order to plan an appropriate orthodontic procedure. Traditionally, dental impressions were taken by inserting large metal trays and liquid plaster against the upper and lower jaw. The material sets to become an elastic solid, providing a detailed replica of a patients smile. This method is uncomfortable, time-consuming and oftentimes inaccurate.. Now, Town Center Dental is able to ...

Market Overview:. The Alginate market is gaining popularity among various industries owing to its increasing application. Market Research Future, a firm which specializes in market reports related to the Food and Beverage sector among others, recently forecasted in its report on Global Alginate Market Research Report- Forecast to 2027 that the market will demonstrate a remarkable growth during the forecast period.. Alginate is present in the cell walls of brown algae, as the calcium, magnesium and sodium salts of alginic acid. Alginates are refined from brown seaweeds. A wide variety of brown seaweeds of the phylum Phaeophyceae are harvested globally and converted into raw material, commonly known as sodium alginate. Sodium alginate is widely used in various industries including food, textile printing and pharmaceutical. Dental impression material utilizes alginate as its means of gelling.. The use of the alginate in food & beverage industry is legalized by major regulatory agencies including ...
Alginate is a family of industrially important polysaccharides composed of irregular sequences of 1-4 linked β-D-mannuronic acid (M) and α-L-guluronic acid (G). They are widely used industrially as iscosifiers and gelling agents. Medical applications include utilization as dental impression materials, wound dressings and as an encapsulation matrix for cell transplants in the treatment of various diseases. Some alginates are immunogenic or have anti-tumor activity.. Commercial alginates are extracted from brown seaweeds, but the polymer is also produced by members of the bacterial genera Pseudomonas and Azotobacter. Probably in all species the alginate is first synthesized as polymannuronic acid, and then the guluronic acid moieties are introduced at the postpolymerization level by the action of mannuronan C-5- epimerases. Azotobacter vinelandii encodes a family of 7 secreted, Ca2+ -dependent mannuronan C-5-epimerases, AlgE1-7, which are composed of varying numbers of two types of structural ...
Orthodox dentistry has undergone significant changes in recent times with the introduction of various omics and molecular targeted therapies both at the experimental/trial and clinical implementation level. Although, significant milestones have been achieved in the molecular dentistry field in the past decade, there remains a dearth of application of phytopharmacological innovation in personalized and targeted therapies for dental diseases. From time immemorial, plant products have long been an integral aspect of dental practice ranging from chewing sticks/herbal kinds of toothpaste to dental/impression materials. The current era of precision medicine seeks to apply a multipronged molecular and bio-computational approaches to solve fundamental medical problems that have hitherto remained difficult. Remarkable changes in the molecular/omics era, have transformed empirical therapies into personalized/individualized ones. Furthermore, the combinatorial application and the widespread introduction of high

Three implant impression techniques, using 3 different splinting materials, were assessed for accuracy in a laboratory model that simulated clinical practice. For group A, an autopolymerizing acrylic resin was used to splint transfer copings. In group B, a dual-cure acrylic resin was used, and for group C, plaster, which was also the impression material, was used. A metal implant master cast with an implant master framework was made to accurately fit to the cast. This cast was the standard for all impressions. For each group, 15 impressions were made. Polyether impression material was used for groups A and B. The accuracy of the stone casts with the implant analogues was measured against the master framework, using strain gauges. A multiple analysis of variance with repeated measures was performed to test for significant differences among the 3 groups. Additional analyses of variance were carried out to locate the source of difference. The statistical analyses revealed that a significant ...

When it comes to precision impression materials, the two most common materials now used are polyethers and VPS. While polyethers are inherently hydrophilic from the start of mix to the final set, VPS materials are inherently hydrophobic but made to become hydrophilic through the addition of surfactants. VPS materials become hydrophilic during the setting of the impression.. Clinical reality suggests that the mouth presents as a moist environment regardless of attempts to dry it with air syringes, anti-sialogogues, cotton rolls, and dry pads. Crevicular fluids, blood, and saliva are often present, even with the best retraction techniques. Due to their hydrophilic nature, the oral environment is better tolerated by polyether materials. In addition, many dentists prefer polyether materials for precision (master) impressions because of their superior flow behavior, especially in difficult environments.. Polyether materials consistently capture the fine details required in implant, denture, and fixed ...
In the world of dentistry there are two front-runners when it comes to impression materials, yet which one would be the best bet for our dental surgeries? The two options we have are that of the traditional Alginate type materials and the more recent PVS (polyvinyl siloxane) silicone type materials.. When taking impressions of patients teeth the most important factor is accuracy while other factors include ease of use, taste, and how long they take to set. Luckily both materials show strong results in each category but which one should we choose?. While both of these types of materials offer great benefits when creating dental impressions, which of them just about edges it over the other?. Alginate. As you might be able to tell from the name, Alginate is connected to that of Algae. In fact the particular type of algae that we are talking about is seaweed which is where Alginate is derived from. This type of impression material is one of the most commonly used in dentistry due to it being cheap, ...

An understanding of the methods and mechanics of sterilization and disinfection is necessary to prevent bacterial cross-contamination. Since sterilization of impressions is not possible, because of the high temperature and time needed, disinfection is the method of choice. The most effective means of disinfecting impressions is to immerse them in disinfectant solution for 30 minutes. Most hydrophobic impression materials exhibit minimal distortion when disinfected in this manner. Irreversible hydrocolloid (alginate) and hydrophilic silicones distort when immersed and can be disinfected by spraying and placing in a sealed plastic bag for manufacturers recommended time. Internal disinfection (replacing water with disinfectant before impression taking) is the method of choice for alginate, since it allows immediate pouring of the impression after removal from the oral cavity.
Impression materials used in the various phases of denture construction may be classified as being rigid, thermoplastic, or elastic substances. Elastic impression materials are those that remain in an elastic or flexible state after they have been removed from the mouth. The elastic impression materials are most generally used for the making of impressions for removable partial dentures, immediate dentures, and crowns and fixed partial dentures when tooth and tissue undercuts and surface detail must be recorded with accuracy. Properties of clinical interest are (1) toxicity, (2) color of the base and accelerator, (3) time required for mixing, (4) working time, (5) consistency, (6) permanent deformation during removal, (7) dimensional stability, (8) flow after setting, (9) flexibility, (10) reproduction of detail, (11) compatibility with die and model materials and (12) deterioration during storage of the unmixed material. These properties are important in choosing a material ...
A method and article for providing identification means, comprising taking an impression of teeth with a thermoplastic wafer of special configuration such that the wafer receives an impression which gives the size, shape and anatomy of each tooth from the occlusal surface to the gum line, and also provides information on tooth position and jaw relationship, to provide maximum information for identification. The wafer also acquires salivary components which, for an indeterminate amount of time, allows for DNA analysis testing or scent dog tracing. The wafer with the impression is then stored for use in case of need, preferably in a container which is sealed so that tampering with the contents can be detected.
