Delegation of tasks between professional groups is important to make health-care services accessible and effective for ageing people. Focussing on a Swedish 1942 birth cohort and guided by Andersens Behavioral Model, this study assessed dental hygienist attendance from age 50 to age 70 and identified covariates at the population-averaged and person-specific levels. In 1992, a census of 50-yr-old subjects was invited to participate in a questionnaire survey. Of the 6,346 respondents, 3,585 completed follow-ups in 1997, 2002, 2007, and 2012. Multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted using a marginal model and a random intercept model. Cochrans Q test revealed that significantly more respondents confirmed dental hygienist attendance in 2012 than in 1992 (57.2% in 2012 vs. 26.0% in 1992). Population-averaged ORs for dental hygienist attendance across time were 3.5 at age 70 yr compared with age 50 yr (baseline); 2.0 if being a regular rather than an irregular dental attendee; and 0.7 if ...

The study was based on a questionnaire, which was sent out to all dentists and dental hygienists (n = 473) who worked at Folktandvården (response rate 60%). The overall prevalence of neck pain (neck pain every day the past month) was 23%. I probably visit my dental hygienist twice annually, shortly after my biannual dentist visit. He will notify me that my dental hygiene is not quite up to scratch, and urge that I visit the hygienist so as to maintain things.. During every trip, the hygienist will suggest quite a few ways in which I will improve my oral hygiene. I follow along for a couple of weeks, before becoming lazy and forgetting. I have therefore compiled a list of tips which hygienists have given me to assist both me and you try to avoid them in the future.. Floss first, before brushing your teeth. Flossing until you brush your teeth makes it easier for your toothbrush and will help to dislodge debris.. Try using Interdental brushes. They are for cleaning between your teeth and are an alternative to flossing. I prefer flossing as the gaps in my teeth are small, hence the wires on interdental brushes have a tendency to flex, but whichever one you use is down to your personal preference.. Experiment using dental floss on a ...

The primary responsibility of a dental hygienist is to perform comprehensive, comfortable dental cleanings on patients. In the absence of gum disease, a patient can undergo a regular dental cleaning, which takes around an hour. About 80% of Americans have gum disease, and these patients require a deep cleaning, which involves scaling and root planing. The hygienist can determine whether gum disease effects you by measuring your gum pocket depth - a measurement that reveals the depth of space between teeth and gums. Deeper pockets indicate that bacteria have eroded the connective tissues, which signals gum disease.. Varying levels of gum disease include gingivitis, the first phase in which gums may seem normal. As the condition progresses into periodontitis, gums become swollen, red, tender, and they may bleed during teeth brushing. Over time, bacteria move down the roots of teeth, destroying gum and connective tissue, as well as bone. Gum disease is the number-one cause for tooth loss in our ...

Time to completion of the baccalaureate degree has increased markedly in the United States over the past three decades. Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of the High School Class of 1972 and the National Educational Longitudinal Study of 1988, we show that the increase in time to degree is localized among those who begin their postsecondary education at public colleges outside the most selective universities. We consider several potential explanations for these trends. First, we show that changes in the college preparedness and the demographic composition of degree recipients cannot account for the observed increases. Instead, our results identify declines in collegiate resources in the less selective public sector and increases in student employment as potential explanations for the observed increases in time to degree.. ...
