This study was conducted to compare the shear bond strengths of composite resin bonded to Er:YAG laser or bur-prepared dentin surfaces using three self-etching adhesive systems. The occlusal surfaces of 120 human third molars were ground flat to expose dentin. The dentin was prepared using either a carbide bur or an Er:YAG laser at 350 mJ/pulse and 10 Hz (fluence, 44.5 J/cm2). Three different self-etching adhesive systems were applied: iBond™, Xeno III™ and Clearfil SE Bond™. Rods of composite resin were bonded to dentin surfaces and shear bond tests were carried out. Both dentin surfaces after debonding and resin rods were observed using a scanning electron microscope. When the Xeno III™ was used, no difference was observed on shear bond strength values when bur and Er:YAG laser were compared. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of saliva contamination on the shear bond strength of an orthodontic adhesive used with Transbond Moisture-Insensitive Primer (MIP, 3M Unitek, Monrovia, Calif) and Transbond Plus Self-Etching Primer (SEP, 3M Unitek). Hydrophobic Transbond XT primer (XT, 3M Unitek) was used as a control. Background: many of the problems and composite filling failures are due to dentists inadequate and passing acquaintance with bonding principles. The aim of this study is to assess dentists acquaintance with the bonding principles and different adhesive application that are going to be used in educational programs. Methods: in this descriptive and cross-sectional study, a valid and reliable questionnaire was designed. The questionnaires were distributed, in person, among dentists in Mashhad, 1389. Our random sample comprised 100 dentists; the questionnaires were filled, gathered and analyzed. The data and results are presented in tables and charts. Results: the results of the study indicate that only 21% of the dentists in the sample have adequate knowledge and proficiency in total-etch adhesive application. This knowledge even reduces to 12% for self-etch adhesives. Moreover, it revealed that just 8% of the dentists had enough information about the methods of connecting composite on Porcelain.
Introduction: Orthodontic treatment may cause an increased accumulation of cariogenic bacteria. An orthodontic resin with antibacterial properties may inhibit bacterial growth around the brackets. The aims of this in-vitro study were to compare the antibacterial and mechanical properties of the newly introduced orthodontic resin containing selenium with a standard resin and a resin modified glass ionomer (RMGI). Methods: Three orthodontic materials were tested (SeLECTDefense; TransbondXT, Fuji Ortho-LC). The antibacterial properties of these materials were evaluated by studying the bacterial growth in liquid media (BG) and agar diffusion (AD) tests. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microtensile bond strength of two all-in-one self-etch adhesives applied to sound and caries-affected dentin with four different application techniques. Forty extracted third molars with occlusal caries were randomly divided into four groups for G-Aenial Bond and S3 Bond: (1) according to manufacturer-s instructions; (2) with acid etching before applying adhesives; (3) doubling adhesive application time; and (4) doubling adhesive coating. Teeth were sectioned to obtain 1-mm-+/- 0.2-mm-thick dentin sticks and subjected to a tensile force. This study compared the microtensile bond strength (BS) and the micromorphology of resin-dentin interface (MI) of a conventional adhesive to two-steps etch-and-rinse bonding agents after 1 year of water storage. Twenty-eight human third molars were used (n = 7). Teeth were divided into four groups (GCB: Gluma Comfort Bond; OPB: OptiBond FL; OCB: One Coat Bond SL; PUB: Peak Universal Bond). Specimens were tested in tension after 24 h or 1 year of water storage. Dentin BS strength data were analyzed by split-plot two-way ANOVA followed by Tukey-Kramer tests (α = 0.05). Water-storage for 1 year significantly decreased BS for OCB; however, no significant difference was noted between OCB and GCB and PUB adhesives after 1 year of water-storage. This study evaluates and compares the effects of enamel prophylaxis using either oil-free pumice or oil-containing prophylaxis paste on the incidence of bracket failure in orthodontic patients.. Forty-six orthodontic patients participated in this prospective clinical trial. A cross-mouth method was used in each patient, in which two diagonal quadrants (i.e. upper right and lower left or vice versa) were randomly assigned to the pumice group and the contralateral diagonal quadrants to the Prophy Paste (R) group. Reed and wheat straw particleboards bonded with urea formaldehyde (UF) resin were manufactured from two different material configurations (i.e., fine and coarse particles). The board densities were in the range of 0.550-.90g/cm3. The effects of particle size and board density on the board properties were examined. The properties of particleboard produced from fine particles were better than those made from coarse particles. An increase in board density resulted in a corresponding improvement in the board properties. The properties of OF bonded reed and wheat straw particleboards were relatively lower than those of commercial particleboards. Three silane coupling agents were used to improve the bondability between the reed and wheat particles and OF resin. Results of this study indicate that all the board properties were improved by the addition of silane coupling agent. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) application on immediate and two-month bond strength of a filled adhesive system. Methods: Forty eight non-carious human third molars without enamel of occlusal surface were randomly divided into two main groups according to CHX application: control and CHX. Each main group was further subdivided into 2 subgroups depending on storage time: immediate or two-month collagenase storage. In CHX groups, 2% CHX was applied for 30 s. Filled adhesive resin (PQ1) was applied on the etched dentin surfaces and cured in all experimental groups. Composite resin (Amelogen) was placed on the dentin surfaces and shear bond strength (SBS) was evaluated immediately and after two-month storage in collagenase solution. Objectives: To investigate the efficacy of a new orthodontic bonding system that incorporates the primer solution in the adhesive.
