Deltopectoral approach to the proximal humerus and many more surgical approaches described step by step with text and illustrations.
With the growth of reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA), it is becoming increasingly necessary to establish the most cost-effective methods for the procedure. The surgical approach is one factor that may influence the cost and outcome of RSA. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical results of a subscapularis- and deltoid-sparing (SSCS) approach to a traditional deltopectoral (TDP) approach for RSA. The hypothesis was that the SSCS approach would be associated with decreased length of stay (LOS), equal complication rate, and better short-term outcomes compared to the TDP approach. A prospective evaluation was performed on patients undergoing RSA over a 2-year period. A deltopectoral incision was used followed by either an SSCS approach or a traditional tenotomy of the subscapularis (TDP). LOS, adverse events, physical therapy utilization, and patient satisfaction were collected in the 12 months following RSA. LOS was shorter with the SSCS approach compared to the TDP approach (from 8.2 ± 6
Abstract The aim of this study was to undertake a comparative arthrokinematic evaluation of the shoulder of throwers with internal impingement. The participants were six throwing athletes with internal impingement type I. The intra-articular position of the humeral head on the glenoid in the apprehension test pose was evaluated using three-dimensional reconstructions obtained on medical images. Glenohumeral internal rotation deficit, external rotation gain, and the difference in posterior shoulder tightness were assessed goniometrically. No abnormal translation behaviour of the humeral head on the glenoid could be demonstrated, with a posterior positioning of the humeral head in relation to the centre of the glenoid of 6.69 0.9 mm and a superior positioning of 2.391.5 mm, despite the presence of a glenohumeral internal rotation deficit between the throwing shoulder and the contralateral shoulder of 26.397.28 and a difference in posterior shoulder tightness of 6.792.9 cm. In conclusion, the ...

The deltopectoral approach is commonly used for plate stabilization of proximal humerus fracture. Although adhesions between the deltoid, plate, and humerus are common sequelae of plate ORIF, little is known about their effect on the range of movement and a function of the shoulder. To confirm their impact, the preoperative and intraoperative evaluation of the range of motion (ROM) was measured during the sequential arthroscopic release of adhesions, with special regard to external rotation. Postoperative ROM and subjective shoulder function were also evaluated. Eighteen patients treated with ORIF of the proximal humerus were scheduled to the unified arthroscopic procedures comprising sequential limited subacromial bursectomy, removal of the adhesions between the deltoid, plate, and humerus, as well as the plate removal. The ROM of the operated and opposite shoulders were assessed before surgery, intraoperatively and after a minimum two-year follow-up, with special regard to external rotation in
In human anatomy, the cephalic vein is a superficial vein in the arm. It communicates with the basilic vein via the median cubital vein at the elbow and is located in the superficial fascia along the anterolateral surface of the biceps brachii muscle. Near the shoulder, the cephalic vein passes between the deltoid and pectoralis major muscles (deltopectoral groove) and through the deltopectoral triangle, where it empties into the axillary vein. The cephalic vein is often visible through the skin, and its location in the deltopectoral groove is fairly consistent, making this site a good candidate for venous access. Permanent pacemaker leads are often placed in the cephalic vein in the deltopectoral groove. The vein may be used for intravenous access, as large bore cannula may be easily placed. However, the cannulation of a vein as close to the radial nerve as the cephalic vein can sometimes lead to nerve damage. Ordinarily the term cephalic refers to anatomy of the head. Q: Dr. Eppley ,I have small shoulders and all the workout I do, doesnt help. I want to increase of +/- 3cm each side my shoulders with mplants and not fat transfer.I wonder if you can reach this result. Thank you. A: Thank you for your deltoid implants inquiry and sending your picture. For deltoid/shoulder augmentation fat grafting was never an option for you due to your very lean body frame. You have correctly identified deltoid implants as the most viable option for your shoulder augmentation. Given your also leaner upper arms I would think that a 3 cm wide deltoid implant would be too big and disproportionate to the rest of your arms and chest width. Deltoid implants in the 1.5cm to 1.75cm width would appear to be more proportionate for you.. Dr. Barry Eppley. Indianapolis, Indiana ...

While it is beyond the scope of this short article to try to explore all aspects of the shoulder muscle activity, a few points can be made concerning the deltoids and rotator cuff muscles. The three major muscle fiber populations of the deltoid muscle (most often referred to as anterior, lateral and posterior heads; or front, side, and rear delts) are apparently each capable of contracting fairly independently of the other heads. In other words, bench presses can conceivably involve anterior fibers of the deltoids while the other two heads are largely inactive. It is, however, overly simplistic to view the activity of the deltoids only in this sense (by saying for example, that anterior deltoid lateral raises work only the anterior head of the deltoid, lateral raises work only the lateral head, etc.). What really happens is much more involved and probably not remotely as clear cut. Many muscles of the shoulder are involved in any shoulder exercise ...

Participants are randomly allocated to one of two groups. Those in the first group receive injections of the qHPV vaccine into their shoulder muscle (deltoid muscle) at the start of the study and then three and six months later. Those in the second group receive placebo (dummy) injections into their shoulder muscle (deltoid muscle) at the start of the study and then three and six months later. For all participants, the injections are in the same arm each time. Participants undergo a scan of their anal canal to see whether there are any lesions so that the effectiveness of the vaccine can be assessed at the start of the study and then after 12, 24, 36 and 48 months. At the start of the study and then two and six months after each vaccination, participants complete a questionnaire about any side effects they have experienced as well as providing a blood sample ...

Muscle tissue also tends to keep vaccine reactions localized. Injecting a vaccine into the deltoid muscle may result in local inflammation or soreness at the injection site. If certain vaccines are injected into fat tissue, the chance of irritation and inflammation reaction increases because fat tissue has poor blood supply, leading to poor absorption of some vaccine components.. Vaccines that include the use of adjuvants - or components that enhance the immune response to the antigen - must be given in a muscle to avoid widespread irritation and inflammation. Adjuvants act in a variety of ways to stimulate a stronger immune response.. Yet another deciding factor in vaccine administration location is the size of the muscle. Adults and children ages three and older tend to receive vaccines in their upper arm in the deltoid. Younger children receive their vaccines mid-thigh because their arm muscles are smaller and less developed.. Another consideration during vaccine administration is convenience ...

Hello: The . Hello: the primary goal of another intervention would be to improve your motion, and it would be important to not ruin what was done for your surgery (if there was a repair of rotator cuff and labrum done). For that purpose, sometimes a manipulation is fine, but if somehow the manipulation alone is not improving your motion enough under anesthesia, then you should be prepared, and your surgeon be prepared also, to proceed right away, as you are still under anesthesia, to an arthroscopic release. Sometimes if there was a repair done, your surgeon may elect to go straight to an arthroscopic release. This is because there may be too much risk to re-tear your repair. I would definitely let your surgeon have this option available so that he/she can do everything it takes to achieve the best outcome for you. I hope this helps! sincerely, jim hsu, md seattle, wa ...
The first published report of SIRVA in 2007 described the injury resulting from influenza and pneumonia vaccinations.. SIRVA is the underreported, painful side effect of vaccinations that youve never heard of. Learn about the symptoms and how you can avoid it.. Shoulder injury related to vaccine administration (SIRVA) occurs when avaccine, any vaccine, is injected improperly, causing physical and functional damage to the affected arm and shoulder. The injury occurs when a vaccine is mistakenly injected into the shoulder joint or bursa, a fluid filled sac that keeps the shoulder lubricated and moving smoothly.. Arm injections are aimed at the deltoid muscle, but in the case of SIRVA, are placed too high or too deep into the upper arm, setting up an inflammatory reaction that affects the local tendons, ligaments, nerves and/or bursa. The result is a cluster of symptoms that can include prolonged shoulder pain, limited range of motion, and weakness. The injury, which health professionals have ...

Bench press above head or chest press is an excellent exercise to increase the volume and strength of the shoulders; it develops the anterior and middle bundles of deltoid muscles, involves in the process the upper chest, triceps and rotator muscles of the shoulder.. The bench press can be performed in two variations: sitting or standing. When lifting is performed while standing in a weight restraint, muscles of almost the entire body are involved. But doing it while sitting, and leaning on the back of the bench, you take the load off the waist, which will allow you to more precisely influence the muscles of the upper half of the body. In addition, this option is definitely safer. Continue reading →. ...

Unfortunately, as we exercise we also tend to get injuries to the muscles, joints, and tendons. Normally when we see our health care provider while injured, the recommendation includes rest. Too much rest, in our opinion.. The abrupt cessation of physical training destroys any previous muscle strength gains in both older and younger individuals. In addition, studies have shown that 6-10 days of inactivity are associated with reduced glucose tolerance, insulin action, and GLUT-4 transporter levels. Others have reported reductions in total aerobic capacity, deltoid muscle respiratory capacity and muscle glycogen content compared with levels during peak season training.. Still others have reported significant increases in body weight and body fat after two months of detraining.. In order to avoid this detraining effect due to forced rest from injuries, RockTape suggests doing activities that help prevent and overcome injuries to the soft tissue.. ...

These days, you can find Giovanna Albers at home with her family in Imperial, Mo., or on the job as a hostess at LongHorn Steakhouse in nearby Sunset Hills, or swimming laps at the YMCA.. The trim, attractive, even athletic-looking 38-year-old radiates good health. So it comes as a surprise that her walk demonstrates profound weakness of her hip and thigh muscles, and that she occasionally falls.. Albers was only 19, newly married and superactive with karate, soccer and volleyball, as well as her job at a bank, when she began to notice that all was not well.. First, an injury to her upper left arm sustained during karate practice failed to heal, leaving a deep indentation in her deltoid muscle.. Then, early in 1985, shortly before her 20th birthday, Albers bent down to count the contents of her safe at the bank, and found she couldnt get up.. Myositis under the microscope. The rear delt raise, also known as the rear deltoid raise, or rear shoulder raise is an exercise in weight training. This exercise is an isolation exercise that heavily works the posterior deltoid muscle. The movement is primarily limited to the two shoulder joints: the glenohumeral joint and the scapulothoracic joint. Scapular movement will also cause movement in the sternoclavicular joint and acromioclavicular joint. If the elbow bends during the extension exercises, it gravitates into a rowing motion. Movements for the posterior deltoid done in the transverse plane are also referred to by terms like rear delt fly, reverse fly, rear lateral raise, bent-over lateral raises or other variations. Other muscles that aid the posterior deltoid include the two lateral rotators of the rotator cuff: the infraspinatus and teres minor. Other muscles such as the lats and middle delts can also come into action, dependent on how the shoulder is rotated. To execute the exercise, the weightlifter attains a ...

Oscar also describes that the middle or lateral deltoid can become overactive or dominate with associated supraspinatus inhibition. This dysfunction can lead to increased superior glide of the humerus and contribute to glenohumeral impingement syndrome. GH impingement leads to supraspinatus injury and the cycle of reciprocal inhibition continues. The anterior deltoid can pull the shoulder into a rounded position, contributing to rounded shoulders and creating an imbalance of the shoulder external rotators and posterior capsule.2. During performance of the shoulder abduction functional screen, an overactive levator scapulae and/or upper trapezius can cause superior movement of the shoulder girdle. Ipsilateral cervical lateral flexion represents a failure of this screen and also suggests overactivity of the levator and upper trap. This repetitive motion can inhibit and decrease the activity of the deltoid.. In chronic shoulder abduction dysfunction, postural findings of deltoid inhibitions can be ...

For movement to occur during your push-up, when one muscle contracts, the opposite (antagonist) will relax. This is called reciprocal inhibition. The main antagonist muscles during a push-up are your trapezius, posterior deltoids and rhomboids. These muscles are on the opposite side of the torso in relation to your pecs.. The helper muscles (synergists) used during a push-up are important because they assist the agonist. The main synergists in the push-up are your triceps and anterior deltoids (or front shoulder muscles). They assist with elbow extension and shoulder flexion, respectively.. Stabilizers help hold your body in a certain position so the agonists and sysnergists have a stable base from which to work. Small muscles in your shoulder, called your rotator cuff, keep the head of your humerus firmly located within your shoulder socket while your rectus abdominus, or abs, hold your spine straight. Other stabilizing muscles include your latissimus dorsi (on the side of your upper back) ...

AMENDED: An 80 mcg dose of gp160 has been chosen for the booster because this dose has been shown to be safe and immunogenic in previous trials and allows comparison of the late boost in this protocol with the late boost in the protocol in which patients were primed with three doses of gp160. Original design: HIVAC-1e vaccine is a preparation of the envelope protein of HIV (the virus that causes AIDS). The protein is produced by genetic modification in vaccinia virus. The purpose of a vaccine is to produce an artificially increased immunity to a particular disease, in this case, AIDS. Since there is no known cure for AIDS, the control of this disease necessitates the development of effective prevention such as vaccines.. Trusculpt flex involves direct stimulation of muscles through the electrodes located in the handpiece, resulting in full muscle contractions similar to voluntary contractions during physical exercise. The contractions induced by truSculpt flex are more intense than physical exercise and such rapid contractions result in increased muscle mass, strength, and tone. One of the limitations of electrical muscle stimulation in increasing muscle strength is that the same muscles that are superficially located are recruited during repetitive use3. This can lead to muscle fatigue and damage. truSculpt flex overcomes this limitation by using multi-directional stimulation with 3 treatment modes, involving different current intensities. Increasing current intensity through the course of a training session allows for the recruitment of deeper muscle groups during training and thus avoids muscle damage4. Altering the direction of the current can also avoid stimulation of the same muscles and facilitate ...

The book provides a lively and approachable introduction to the main concepts and techniques of relativistic hydrodynamics in a form which will appeal to physicists at advanced undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The book is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the physical aspects of relativistic hydrodynamics, touching on fundamental topics such as kinetic theory, equations of state, mathematical aspects of hyperbolic partial differential equations, linear and nonlinear waves in fluids, reaction fronts, and the treatment of non-ideal fluids. The second part provides an introductory but complete description of those numerical methods currently adopted in the solution of the relativistic-hydrodynamic equations. Starting from traditional finite-difference methods, modern high-resolution shock-capturing methods are discussed with special emphasis on Godunov upwind schemes based on Riemann solvers. High-order schemes are also treated, focusing on essentially non-oscillatory and weighted

Then a breakthrough happened in another field of research that would forever change humanity. Genetic scientists working on a cure for cancer could take a single damaged cell from a patient and correct the aberrations in its DNA, but the trick was getting the healthy cell to replicate its new code in through the millions of other cells in the body. […] Years later, genetic scientists from the Terran Colonization Coalition soon began tinkering with condemned prisoners in secret and used the McEwen process to combine human DNA sequences with data from other Terran life forms, primarily canine (dogs), feline (cats), ursine (bear) and vulpine (foxes). It was their hope to improve humanity in such a way to give settling colonists an edge on their survival.. The genetic mutations were successful and brought about the development of four new races, the Canis, the Felis, the Ursis, and the Vulps. These new races were able to stand upright as bipeds due to enlarged digitigrade back leg muscles and bone ...

Now that you know the laws, its time to meet the natives. But first, a bit of semantics. There is no race here, in terms of black/latino/asian/white race. We do not apply that word to what is technically differences in genetic sequences. Theyre breeds technically, but commonly theyre classes. Well use class in this term. Native Canmephians are one of four genders: male, female, hermaphrodite (or herm for short), or neuter. They are also one of three species: WolfSkunk, Dryger, or BoaWolf. Crossbreeding does occur, for example creating DrygerSkunks. WolfSkunks (and DrygerSkunks) are always herms. Drygers and BoaWolves can be all four. The basic (or Default class) adult Canmephian stands between 9 and 12 tall. With herms, the male genitalia is a bit more prominent due to its anatomic arrangement -- quirk of nature. Dryger females and herms have a double set of breasts. All Canmephians have digitigrade legs, save for BoaWolves, who have a serpentine body below the hips (and therefore ...
Biceps comprises most of the mass of the front of the upper arm. The short head is on the medial side, and the long head is on the lateral side. The short head rests lower on the arm than the long head.. It emerges from under the lateral part of pectoralis and the deltoid, and its tendon disappears between the extensor mass and the flexor mass of the forearm (specifically, between brachioradialis and pronator teres). Because the two heads are mostly covered by the deltoid, they cannot usually be distingished on the surface, especially when the muscle is relaxed.. Besides the main tendon of the biceps, there is also tendinous ribbon, the bicipital (bye-SIP-it-al) aponeurosis , which extends over the flexors. Its binding action sometimes creates a plane break there, dividing the shape of the flexor mass into a short curve and a long curve.. Biceps changes its shape dramatically when tensed. The belly becomes rounder and rises, becoming more spherical. Sometimes the division between the heads can ...
Many people in the gym spend an enormous amount of time doing lateral raises, hoping to achieve deltoid greatness. Those poor souls get a massive pump through drop sets (as advised by Scooby) and think that 3D delts are just around the corner, but the corner never ends.. To acquire capped delts, you need to develop the side deltoid which is a really small muscle consisting of 2/3 slow twitch fibers. This basically means that the sucker was not built for hypertrophy in the first place.. Besides, many compound exercises like the overhead press and the handstand push-up work the muscle in a hardcore fashion. Therefore, if you are doing similar exercises, you dont really benefit that much from lateral raises with pink dumbbells. The burn that you feel means nothing as far as muscle growth is concerned. Nothing.. The best overall direct shoulder exercise is still the standing overhead barbell press. If you do the movement correctly and flare your elbows a little during the middle phase, it will ...

We know the system is broken, not that it was properly functioning in the first place (Concerns about press power go back into the 19th century, and some of the most egregious examples involved the Mail and Express back in the 1920s, or indeed if you want lying the Sun is still boycotted in Merseyside because they lied about what happened at the Hillsborough disaster, and I could go on, and on.) There seems no proper open way for defamed organisations to get redress short of legal action, and the same goes for individuals, unless they are very rich in which case the papers will be nice because they dont want to be sued. Because parliament is mostly a talking shop full of dummies, it is very hard to get anything done there either, unless your campaign catches someones eye. And at the same time we dont want to give the government an excuse to do something stupid. So few people like them that actually its better not to have them endorsing anything, although as usual their lack of action is ...
Many years ago, I was deep into this scene. Genes are the biggest driver, according to my experience. Muscle shape, the ability to grow muscle, the ability to get low percent bodyfat, etc., are mostly genetic. Many of these guys (There were few women) were huge and cut no matter what they ate. I ate with them, so I know. It was common to do a really heavy set and then make a pizza run between sets. Others gained off-season weight, but dieted before contest. I trained with a guy 54″ who spent off-season at 245 lbs and competed at 198. At contest, he had 22-inch arms! At 54″. I do not mean to say that they do not work hard. They do. But it pays off more than it does for the rest of us. One guy in particular (shredded year round at 235) worked his spotters so hard that wed all hide when he came in. Spotting was harder than our regular workouts. I remember (but do not recall the rules) that carbs were managed for two reasons: water retention and muscle fullness. Water retention blurs ...
