Each year up to 125 million pregnancies occur in malaria endemic countries. Malaria infection during pregnancy can result in pregnancy loss, maternal death, severe maternal anaemia and low infant birth weight which increases the risk of death. It is associated with as many as 100,000 children dying needlessly every year. The Malaria in Pregnancy Consortium (MiP) works across 47 institutions worldwide, using standardized methods and sharing research data and information across the consortium. The Consortium develops projects within four key research areas:
Some examples of OODBMS are Versant Object Database, Objectivity/DB, ObjectStore, Caché and ZODB. The talks are intended as one-hour introductions for an audience of computer professionals, assumed to be technically competent but not familiar with the topics discussed. ::What is an object oriented database? As mentioned, earlier RDBMS is based on the relational model and data in a RDMS are stored in the form of related tables. Avoids the complexities and limitations of ORM products such as Hibernate by storing objects directly with their relationships intact. This system supports objects, classes and inheritance in database schemas and query language. A relational database wfollows Cobbs relational model as defined in his papers more than 20 years ago, wporking with TABLES of data that are RELATED to each other (thus the term relational… Object Oriented Databases. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Phone: (202) 225-5074. Dear FCC Commissioners,. Spectrum Frontiers Proceeding is being represented as an unqualified good, but it is not. It will do great harm to human health and the environment.. Please vote no to the Spectrum Frontiers Proceeding. There has been no NEPA review of the environmental and human health impacts of moving forward with 5G. The FCC has put the cart before the horse in promulgating rules for 5G without first studying the safety of 5G for humans and the environment. There is consensus within the scientific community that the existing FCC limits for wireless radiation do not protect the population from biological effects (www.EMFscientist.org). The National Toxicology Program recently release results showing that radiofrequency radiation (RFR) can indeed both break DNA and cause cancer (http://www.saferemr.com/2016/05/national-toxicology-progam-finds-cell.html and http://microwavenews.com/news-center/ntp-nyt). ...
The present invention creates a model that maps object classes in an object-oriented environment to a data source. The model maps the relationship between properties of each object class and data of the data source. The present invention can be used with a data source such as a relational database, user interface, file system, or object-oriented database. An applications object classes and data source schema are designed independent of the other since the model can be used to map one to the other. The model is comprised of entities and attributes. An entity maps to an object class and to at least one table of the DBMS. An entity contains attributes either simple or derived. A simple attribute maps to a DBMS column. A derived attribute is a combination of other attributes and does not directly map to a DBMS column. A relationship creates a link between entities of the model. A relationship can be used to flatten an attribute or flatten a relationship. A flattened attribute is an attribute of one entity

Previous studies have investigated the influence of neuroscience information or images on ratings of scientific evidence quality but have yielded mixed results. We examined the influence of neuroscience information on evaluations of flawed scientific studies after taking into account individual differences in scientific reasoning skills, thinking dispositions, and prior beliefs about a claim. We found that neuroscience information, even though irrelevant, made people believe they had a better understanding of the mechanism underlying a behavioral phenomenon. Neuroscience information had a smaller effect on ratings of article quality and scientist quality. Our study suggests that neuroscience information may provide an illusion of explanatory depth. Current information on efficacy of antimalarials is crucial to provide early warning of resistance. A collaborative effort between the Global Malaria Program of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the WorldWide Antimalarial Resistance Network (WWARN) has recently been launched. The effort is planned as a collaboration with the scientific malaria community to create a global, comprehensive, and inclusive network that will provide quality-assured information on antimalarial drug resistance. © 2010 World Health Organization.
BACKGROUND: Therapeutic efficacy studies in uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria are confounded by new infections, which constitute competing risk events since they can potentially preclude/pre-empt the detection of subsequent recrudescence of persistent, sub-microscopic primary infections. METHODS: Antimalarial studies typically report the risk of recrudescence derived using the Kaplan-Meier (K-M) method, which considers new infections acquired during the follow-up period as censored. Cumulative Incidence Function (CIF) provides an alternative approach for handling new infections, which accounts for them as a competing risk event. The complement of the estimate derived using the K-M method (1 minus K-M), and the CIF were used to derive the risk of recrudescence at the end of the follow-up period using data from studies collated in the WorldWide Antimalarial Resistance Network data repository. Absolute differences in the failure estimates derived using these two methods were quantified. ...

An object database management system (ODBMS, also referred to as object-oriented database management system or OODBMS), is a database management system (DBMS) that supports the modelling and creation of data as objects. This includes some kind of support for classes of objects and the inheritance of class properties and methods by subclasses and their objects.. In their influential paper, The Object-Oriented Database System Manifesto, Malcolm Atkinson and others define an OODBMS in 1995 as follows: An object-oriented database system must satisfy two criteria: it should be a DBMS, and it should be an object-oriented system, i.e., to the extent possible, it should be consistent with the current crop of object-oriented programming languages. The first criterion translates into five features: persistence, secondary storage management, concurrency, recovery and an ad hoc query facility. The second one translates into eight features: complex objects, object identity, encapsulation, types or classes, ...

Those who object to the introduction of #5G networks will soon be accused of conspiracy thinking. It does not address or even look at what 5G actually means. Apparently there is a blind faith that our government is responsibly dealing with this matter. Whether that trust is justified, is very much the question! To begin with, the Netherlands has the highest standard for electromagnetic radiation (EHS) in Europe. Radiation levels therefore quickly fall within the acceptable standard. This standard is established as follows: A bag of salt water was irradiated for six minutes by a transmitter. Then it was examined how hot the water was and concluded that it was safe. Only the thermal effect of radiation has determined the safety standard, biological effects have not been studied at all. Health risks therefore play no role for our government in determining acceptable radiation levels! Already 3500 people in the Netherlands know that their health problems are caused by EHS, but many people with ...

This paper evaluates the New Keynesian Phillips Curve (NKPC) and its hybrid variant within a limited information framework for Germany. The main interest rests on the average frequency of price re-optimization of 﫿rms. We use the labor income share as the driving variable and consider a source of real rigidity by allowing for a 﫿xed 﫿rm-speci﫿c capital stock. A GMM estimation strategy is employed as well as an identi﫿cation robust method that is based upon the Anderson-Rubin statistic. We 﫿nd out that the German Phillips Curve is purely forward looking. Moreover, our point estimates are consistent with the view that 﫿rms re-optimize prices every two to three quarters. While these estimates seem plausible from an economic point of view, the uncertainties around these estimates are very large and also consistent with perfect nominal price rigidity where 﫿rms never re-optimize prices. This analysis also o﫿ers some explanations why previous results for the German NKPC based on GMM ...

We would like to develop software and documentation that will help people get from sequence to diagnosis. At the moment, we are focusing on identifying and classifying SNPs, but we will broaden this identification to other things like large deletions or insertions or repeats when we have more expertise. We are attempting to harness the power of other already existing tools, and we would also like to make this tool one that others can build upon. Specifically, our program will eventually be able to determine location based on BLAST, determine any SNPs based on NCBI SNP, and give a prognosis based on OMIM and online medical databases. ...
