The treated rubberwood boxes were utilized to store strawberries at 6 °C for 21 d, while boxes with only activated carbon were used as a control. A highly stable lipase from Geobacillus thermocatenolatus (BTL2) and the enhanced green fluorescent protein from Aquorea victoria (EGFP) were recombinantly produced N-terminally tagged to the lectin domain of the hemolytic pore-forming toxin LSLa from the mushroom Laetiporus sulphureus. A Geotrichum-like fungus isolated from a biodeteriorated compact disc (CD) was able to degrade in vitro the components of different CD types. The fungal hyphae inside the CD fragments grew through the aluminium layer and produced the solubilization of this metal. After I received my PhD in 1988, I moved to the Center for Forest Mycology Research at the Forest Products Lab in Madison, Wisconsin for a 6.5 year postdoc and temporary job with Dr. Hal Burdsall. There I worked on a variety of biosystematic and ecological studies of wood decay fungi, mostly in the Polyporaceae s.l., Corticiaceae s.l. and Agaricales, as well as root- and butt-rot fungi in those groups. I have continued to collaborate with other researchers there, including Dan Czederpiltz, since Madison is only a 2.5 hour drive fromLa Crosse. Current research programs there include the systematics, ecology and taxonomy in the genera Armillaria, Laetiporus, Bridgeoporus, Phlebia, and Phellinus, and also the study of ecology and pathogenesis of fungi in temperate and tropical ecosystems. Removal of xylan, one of two polysaccharides representing the hemicelluloses, was the highest for Bipolaris sp1 (30.6%) and at or above 25% for P. chrysosporium (25.4%), Dothideomycete sp. (25.0%), and N. crassa (26.5%). Dropping the amount of removal to 24% included Chloridium sp1, A. aff. phaeospermum, and two more Dothideomycetes spp., A. aff. tenuissima and E. aff. nigrum.. The oxidation of Fe2+ was investigated by electron spin resonance spin trapping techniques with N-t-butyl-alpha-phenylnitrone (PBN) and dimethyl sulfoxide. Under pure oxygen, the spin adduct PBN/.OCH3 was rapidly generated by the addition of Fe2+ (0.2-1.2 mM) into phosphate buffer containing ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA), dimethyl sulfoxide, and PBN at pH 7.4, but it decayed. The decay process of PBN/.OCH3 consists of two components. The fast decay was dependent on Fe2+ concentration. Another was due to destruction of the spin adduct by superoxide anion (.O2-), because superoxide dismutase (SOD) markedly prevented the decay. Catalase decreased the yield of PBN/.OCH3. When EDTA was replaced by diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA), both the generation and decay process of PBN/.OCH3 were slow. SOD and catalase effects were similar to those in EDTA. The main attention is paid to EXO-200, KamLAND-Zen, GERDA-I and CUORE-0 experiments. The decay resistance and hyphae penetration of bamboo |i|Gigantochloa scortechinii|/i| decayed by white and brown rot fungi were investigated using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The bamboo grown in natural stand from three different age classes of 0.5, 3.5, and 6.5 years was harvested, oven dried, sterilised, and exposed to agar media containing 4% malt extract and 2% agar technical (no. 3) under laboratory condition for 8 weeks. The deterioration was expressed as percentage of weight loss, and the decay resistance classes were measured according to ASTM D 2017-81 (1986). This study found that the percentage weight loss was greatly reduced with the bamboo ageing. Regardless of age, the |i|G. scortechinii|/i| was classified as highly resistant to decay by white and brown rot fungi. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation showed that the fungi hyphae mostly penetrated into the vessel and proceeded to the pit and parenchyma cells.

Proper regulation of gene expression at a cellular level is required in all organisms for their successful adaptation and survival to physiological or environmental changes. In eukaryotes, a convenient way of regulating gene expression is achieved by post-transcriptionally adjusting the decay rates of different mRNAs. The Puf family of proteins in yeast belong to a widespread group of eukaryotic RNA-binding proteins that regulate the lifespans of target mRNAs by sequence specifically binding to 3 untranslated regions (UTRs) and modulating their decay rates. For example, the yeast Puf3 protein binds the COX17 3 UTR, stimulating its deadenylation and subsequent decay. Studies of the spin, parity and tensor couplings of the Higgs boson in the H→ZZ∗→4ℓ, H→WW∗→eνμν and H→γγ decay processes at the LHC are presented. The investigations are based on 25fb−1 of pp collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment at √s=7 TeV and √s=8 TeV. The Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson hypothesis, corresponding to the quantum numbers JP=0+, is tested against several alternative spin scenarios, including non-SM spin-0 and spin-2 models with universal and non-universal couplings to fermions and vector bosons. All tested alternative models are excluded in favour of the SM Higgs boson hypothesis at more than 99.9 % confidence level. Using the H→ZZ∗→4ℓ and H→WW∗→eνμν decays, the tensor structure of the interaction between the spin-0 boson and the SM vector bosons is also investigated. The static and dynamic properties of excitons and trions in a 80 nm wide Cd_{1-x}Mn_xTe/Cd_{0.7}Mg_{0.3}Te quantum well with extremely small Mn content (x=0.00027) have been studied by means of time-integrated and time-resolved photoluminescence experiment at low and elevated temperatures. The trion binding energy has been estimated to be 2.6 ± 0.8 meV. The exciton and trion lifetimes have been measured to be ≈ 150 ps, and ≈ 200 ps, respectively.
