The Role of Cognition and Affect in the Formation of Customer Satisfaction: A Dynamic Perspective Despite the strong recognition that customer satisfaction should be viewed from a dynamic perspective, little is known about how the satisfaction judgment develops over time. Therefore, this study provides a dynamic analysis of the simultaneous influence of cognition and affect in the satisfaction formation process. The results of an experimental study based on a real consumption experience indicate that the impact of cognition on the satisfaction evaluation increases and the influence of affect decreases over time. Moreover, these effects are attenuated with inconsistent performance experiences. Finally, the study shows that the variance in customer satisfaction jointly explained by cognition and affect increases as experience accumulates. he topic of customer satisfaction/dissatisfaction has been of great interest to marketing and consumer researchers for many years. This interest is driven in ...

Downloadable (with restrictions)! Consumer preferences for white maize in East and Southern Africa concerns developers of maize biofortified with provitamin A carotenoids, since carotenoids impart a yellow or orange coloration. Urban consumers willingness to pay (WTP) for yellow maize was estimated, using a semi-double-bounded logistic model, based on a survey of 600 maize consumers in Nairobi, Kenya, at posho mills, kiosks and supermarkets. Consumers showed a strong preference for white maize. Only a minority would buy yellow maize at the same price as white maize, and fewer consumers in the posho mills (24%) and kiosks (19%) than in the supermarkets (34%) would do so. On average, consumers need a price discount of 37% to accept yellow maize. This discount was less at the posho mills (35%) and kiosks (37%) than in the supermarkets (48%). Most respondents (76%) were aware of the existence of fortified meal and the generally showed an interest. The average premium for fortified maize was much less than
The global empty capsules market is expected to reach USD 2.57 billion by 2024, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. Key factors responsible for the growth are the increase in the geriatric population, proliferation of pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical industries, globally and the upsurge in the consumer preferences for capsules over tablets.. The rising geriatric population count and the associated chronic conditions are expected to heighten the demand for the production of capsule-centric medications in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical application areas. Moreover, the benefits associated with capsule consumption, such as ease of swallowing, faster absorption rates, and increased palatability are also expected to contribute significantly to the expansion of the market over the forecast period.. The mushrooming of the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical industries is expected to serve as a high impact rendering driver for the empty capsules ...
Previous studies have shown that customer satisfaction plays a key role in the health and future success of any company. When customers are satisfied, they keep coming back to the same store and invite their friends to do the same. Now, a new study from the University of Missouri has found that CEOs who pay attention to employees job satisfaction are able to boost both customer satisfaction and repurchase intentions, or the number of customers that intend to purchase products from the store.. You might think that as an owner, you only need to pay attention to the customers, providing them with what they want. Yet, we found that keeping your employees satisfied with their work experience, providing them with challenges and allowing them to have a sense of ownership in the business can have a tremendous effect on customer satisfaction and loyalty, said Christopher Groening, assistant professor of marketing in the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business. The link between customer ...

The Survey of Consumer Attitudes and Behavior series (also known as the Surveys of Consumers) was undertaken to measure changes in consumer attitudes and expectations, to understand why such changes occur, and to evaluate how they relate to consumer decisions to save, borrow, or make discretionary purchases. This type of information is essential for forecasting changes in aggregate consumer behavior. Since the 1940s, these surveys have been produced quarterly through 1977 and monthly thereafter. Each monthly survey probes a different aspect of consumer confidence. Open-ended questions are asked concerning evaluations and expectations about personal finances, employment, price changes, and the national business situation. Additional questions probe buying intentions for automobiles and computers, and the respondents appraisals of present market conditions for purchasing houses, automobiles, computers, and other durables. Also explored in this survey were respondents types of savings and ...
Adoption of technology against cost, customer satisfaction and competition. Innovative technologies are being released to the market more frequently today than in the recent past. Some of the technology is expensive and efficient. Others are expensive and less efficient. It is a little difficult for businesses to strike a balance between the use of technology and the price of goods and services. Unfortunately, many consumers appreciate the use of technology but still wish to pay a reasonable price for it. Some companies have been known to employ the use of the best technology, but they do not have enough clients for them to break even because they have outpriced themselves. How then is a company supposed to strike a balance between efficiency, technology, consumer satisfaction and business competition without sacrificing any of their core values and visions?. The relevance of brand of communities is steadily increasing for the past many years. Ahonen and Moore (2005) said that community activity is the biggest change in business in 100 years. The recent changes in marketing and consumer behavior stress the need for understanding the relationship between the brand and consumer behavior in terms of their identity, attachment, culture and societal influence. One of the recent concepts in consumer behavior that explains the connection between one consumer and other is brand community. The term brand community was first coined by Albert Muniz jr and C.O Guinn in 1995, when they have presented a paper in Consumer Research Annual Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which was later published in Journal of Consumer research by the title Brand Community(2001). In this article they have defined brand community as a specialized non-geographically bound community, based on structured set of social relations among admirers of brand. Wikipedia defines A ...

Results from an online survey of 238 Indian consumers across four food product categories (honey, cheese, biscuits and cooking oil) shows that both intrinsic and extrinsic religiosity have significant positive effects, but spirituality has no significant effect on the purchase of spiritual brands. We discuss the theoretical and managerial implications of these findings as well as some limitations of our study and useful directions for future research ...
Organizations need to retain existing customers while targeting non-customers.[8] Measuring customer satisfaction provides an indication of how successful the organization is at providing products and/or services to the marketplace. Customer satisfaction is measured at the individual level, but it is almost always reported at an aggregate level. It can be, and often is, measured along various dimensions. A hotel, for example, might ask customers to rate their experience with its front desk and check-in service, with the room, with the amenities in the room, with the restaurants, and so on. Additionally, in a holistic sense, the hotel might ask about overall satisfaction with your stay.[1] As research on consumption experiences grows, evidence suggests that consumers purchase goods and services for a combination of two types of benefits: hedonic and utilitarian[9]. Hedonic benefits are associated with the sensory and experiential attributes of the product. Utilitarian benefits of a product ...

Interpretive Summary: Pork quality has a large impact on consumer preference and perception of eating quality and is largely driven by tenderness and juiciness scores, which are related to shear force, cooking loss and pH. Water loss from meat during postmortem storage reduces profitability and consumer appeal. Other measures of pork quality, such as color and intramuscular fat also affect consumer satisfaction and influence purchase decisions. Factors including genetics, cooking temperature and processing procedures also affect meat quality and tenderness. While several candidate genes have been proposed for pork quality, only a few causative genes have been identified. Many QTL studies have been reported for pork quality using different breeds and crossbred populations, but limited studies have been done using dense genetic markers in commercial animals. This study was done to identify genes affecting economically important pork quality traits. A genome-wide analysis was performed for pork ...

to why customer satisfaction is the best indicator in assessing the real impact trainings make. According to the article, evaluating training by assessing customer satisfaction is easy to carry out and draw conclusion from, cheap in cost and has other spill over effects. On the other hand, the article also argued against the relevancy and effectiveness of the current dominant way of evaluating business by saying the orthodox method is expensive, time-consuming, complicated in terms of determining which outcome that should be evaluated. Traditionally, training can be assessed in four stages wherein each successive stages are progressively more informative than the previous. The first three stages involve collecting trainees opinion of the training, testing what they have learned, and gauging the changes in their behaviour during work. Only in the final stage of this orthodox method does business impact during post-training period is measured. In the context of evaluating the impact of trainings ...

The objectives of this study were: (1) to evaluate consumer acceptance of cheeses varying in fat and sodium levels, (2) to determine if sensitivity to reward and body mass index has an effect on product liking based on fat or salt content, (3) to evaluate the use of FaceReader technology during consumer evaluation and, (4) to determine if consumers self-selected, conscious emotions matched with the expressed, subconscious emotions acquired by FaceReader. Consumer acceptance testing (n=108) was conducted on two medium cheddar cheeses with varying fat levels and two low-moisture part-skim mozzarella cheeses varying in sodium levels. Attributes were measured using a 9-point hedonic scale. In order to measure reward sensitivity, participants completed the BIS/BAS questionnaire and the SPSRQ prior to consumer acceptance testing. SIMS sensory software was used for data collection. The complete consumption experience was video recorded (n=83). A choose-all-that-apply format was used so participants could
Since the early 2010s, the emergence of a new consumer has begun. In this context, consumer behavior represents one of the greatest interests of marketing scholars and business managers due to their need to adapt their companies strategies to the new frontier. In order to advance understanding of this new consumer, this article focuses on analyzing consumer behavior in shopping streets. Thus, the aim of this research is to know what customers value in terms of salesperson-customer interaction quality nowadays. To achieve this, the authors conducted two studies. The results of the first study show that customers cite personal attention as the primary factor motivating their preference for small retailers in shopping streets. However, this motivation is not as relevant one for those who prefer malls. This result provides a point on which to research service quality incorporating personal attention in a second study. Using the SERVQUAL-P scale, the authors elaborate three lenses through which the quality

Elementary path analysis was employed to test these propositions. Of interest are the magnitudes of the coefficients of determination and the comparative magnitudes of the (standardized) regression coefficients attributable to each of the independent variables within equations for each sample taken separately and for each variable across samples. Relative stability of the weights across situations would lend further support to the basic expectancy disconfirmation model.. RESULTS. Zero-order correlations between all variables across the two sample and measurement groups are shown in Table 1. The data are remarkably consistent across all analyses. Satisfaction was significantly correlated with its hypothesized antecedents in all cases, although disconfirmation yielded the highest correlations in the female sample. Preference (coded as change in preference) was most highly correlated with disconfirmation in all cases although significant correlations were also obtained with satisfaction and to a ...

An expert system and a method of providing automated advice are described. The system is regularly updated by advice (or diagnosis, recommendation etc.) given by practitioners in the relevant field. The combination of the underlying facts and the consequent (human) advice is used to update a ruleset that is then used to provide automated advice. An example of financial advice is given. A database contains the details for the customers of a financial institution together with advice and recommendations given previously by the institutions human advisors. This database is used to derive a ruleset which is then applied to a subsequent customers details in an automated manner, possibly at the users own PC via the World Wide Web. Frequent updating using data from the human advisors work means that the database (and hence the ruleset) are kept up to date. Consistent advice can thus be provided with minimum human interaction.
The idea that clients or users of public services might legitimately have opinions about how they should be delivered is a relatively new one in the United Kingdom, where producers views have dominated decisions about how things should be done. This tendency can be observed not only in health care, but also in other public services such as education, the provision of social security benefits, policing, and the criminal justice system. Such neglect of users views is predictable where services are provided (often for excellent reasons) in a non-market context.
The Asian market is potentially very large and with proper marketing should have tremendous value. In Asia, consumer preferences and traditions differ from those prevailing in Europe and North America and have facilitated marketing and increased production. Local cosmetic industries in particular, have very great potential for growth once quality and marketing (most of all packaging) approach the levels of Western competitors. The use of royal jelly in cosmetics has led to some very successful products. In one case (in Thailand) a business originally based on cosmetics with royal jelly and other bee products was so successful that it grew into a multimillion dollar enterprise.. While these successful companies became large operations, there is still plenty of room for small, local businesses (beauty parlours, vendors, pharmacies and others) to formulate articles containing bee products and in particular, royal jelly. These need to be adapted and selected according to local consumer preferences ...

Collaborative child assessment combines traditional assessment methods with techniques aimed at increasing the therapeutic benefit of assessment for children and parents. Previous studies have found high consumer satisfaction, increased self esteem, decreased symptomatic distress, and greater hopefulness following participation in collaborative assessment. However, full collaborative assessment protocols are complex, time-consuming, and thus not practical to use in many applied settings. This study investigated the practicality and potential benefits of implementing several collaborative techniques into otherwise traditional child assessments, including co-generation of assessment questions, use of a process orientation during child testing, and use of an individualized, level-based approach when providing feedback. Thank-you for an interesting and thought provoking post on the achievements of Rwanda in Universal Health Coverage. I certainly agree that developing a financing mechanism for healthcare inclusive of public health services is key to making UHC a reality in Low and Middle Income Countries. One of the challenges of implementing international laws and policies is how to hold governments accountable for providing basic health services beyond operational maps and guidelines. Better yet, how do the citizens hold their ministries of health accountable for the social protection plans, cost-sharing,and benefit packages to the level that it guarantees financial-risk protection, improves health outcomes, and leads to greater consumer satisfaction with the quality of healthcare received? How many governments are explicit on what services are provided and what quality is acceptable? Is this information publicly available beyond statements such as maternal care, womens health, preventive services even ...

In this article we apply geodemographic consumer segmentation data in an input−output framework to understand the direct and indirect carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with consumer behavior of different lifestyles in the United Kingdom. In a subsequent regression analysis, we utilize the lifestyle segments contained in the dataset to control for aspects of behavioral differences related to lifestyles in an analysis of the impact of various socioeconomic variables on CO2 emissions, such as individual aspirations and peoples attitudes toward the environment, as well as the physical context in which people act.. This approach enables us to (1) test for the significance of lifestyles in determining CO2 emissions, (2) quantify the importance of a variety of individual socioeconomic determinants, and (3) provide a visual representation of where the various factors exert the greatest impact, by exploiting the spatial information contained in the lifestyle data.. Our results indicate the ...

TY - JOUR. T1 - Electricity awareness and consumer demand for information. AU - Trotta, Gianluca. PY - 2020/7. Y1 - 2020/7. N2 - With the envisioned growth in the residential electricity demand and increased share of intermittent renewables in the supply mix, consumers will need to be better informed about their electricity consumption and to play an active role in managing their electricity use. However, consumer inattention and lack of information are ubiquitous, especially in household energy‐related settings. Thus, by using a novel survey and actual monthly electricity consumption data, this study set out to measure the level of awareness about electricity bills, prices, and costs among some Finnish households - as captured by the answers to six questions - and to investigate whether higher levels of electricity awareness are associated with electricity savings. In addition, this study analyzes the willingness to receive extra information about energy consumption and savings and how it ...
A quality tool in achieving the required quality and customer satisfaction of the industrialised building system (IBS) is needed. Aiming to develop a general quality function deployment (QFD) model to enhance the adoption of IBS in housing projects, two sets of structured questionnaires were designed, where the first set was for IBS house occupiers and the second set for construction stakeholders. Frequency distribution, arithmetic measure, gap analysis, Pareto analysis, and QFD application were employed to identify the customer satisfaction factors and the IBS adoption strategies. A general QFD model was developed based on the quality matrix (Q-Matrix), function matrix (F-Matrix), and a combination of quality matrix plus function matrix (QF-Matrix) derived from this study. Customer satisfaction with IBS products could enhance the demand for this kind of building automation system, thus the model could be used more objectively in developing, designing, and managing IBS in the global ...

Today, consumers demand foods that are minimally processed, as natural as possible, and yet are convenient to use. Complicating these factors is a consumer preference toward cured and smoked foods that are processed with lower salt, lower nitrate and higher moisture levels. These parameters have a tremendous impact on the safety of a given cured/smoked food or process. Preferences for low fat and low sugar have less impact on the safety, but these factors can change the traditional curing and smoking process. It will be difficult to completely eliminate the use of nitrite, as there is no known substitute for it as a curing agent for meat. Nonetheless, the demand for fewer chemicals added to foods has put pressure on the industry and the scientific community to seek new alternatives. In-home vacuum packaging machines have become popular in recent years. It is important to realize that in-home vacuum packaging is not a substitution for cooking or any form of food preservation, e.g., ...

Under what conditions is ethical consumption a high-status practice? Using unique food consumption survey data on aesthetic and ethical preferences, we investigate how these orientations to food are related. Existing research on high-status food consumption points to the foodie, who defines good taste through aesthetic standards. And emergent evidence suggests the ethical consumer, whose consumption is driven by moral principles, may also be a high-status food identity. However, ethical consumption can be practiced in inexpensive and subcultural ways that do not conform to dominant status hierarchies (e.g., freeganism). In order to understand the complex cultural terrain of high-status consumption, we investigate how socioeconomic status (SES) is related to foodie and ethical consumer preferences and practices. Using a k-means cluster analysis of intercept survey data from food shoppers in Toronto, we identify four distinct clusters representing foodies, ethical consumers, ethical foodies, ...
Week of September 5 to September 9, 2016. The American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) launches a new study tracking voter satisfaction with the race for U.S. president, to be updated each week with new data until November 7, 2016 (the day before the election).. Customer satisfaction is a proven predictor of purchases of goods and services; therefore, it should have predictive power for presidential elections as well. Like consumers, voters may pick candidates based on the expected satisfaction that a candidate will deliver. Expected satisfaction, in turn, is predicted by current satisfaction. Accordingly, the ACSI will track expected and current satisfaction with the two major party candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.. In markets for goods and services, current satisfaction is determined by a customers consumption experience. In the absence of any such actual experience prior to the inauguration of a new president and a period of actual governing, the ACSI uses a proxy that ...
