The Role of Cognition and Affect in the Formation of Customer Satisfaction: A Dynamic Perspective Despite the strong recognition that customer satisfaction should be viewed from a dynamic perspective, little is known about how the satisfaction judgment develops over time. Therefore, this study provides a dynamic analysis of the simultaneous influence of cognition and affect in the satisfaction formation process. The results of an experimental study based on a real consumption experience indicate that the impact of cognition on the satisfaction evaluation increases and the influence of affect decreases over time. Moreover, these effects are attenuated with inconsistent performance experiences. Finally, the study shows that the variance in customer satisfaction jointly explained by cognition and affect increases as experience accumulates. he topic of customer satisfaction/dissatisfaction has been of great interest to marketing and consumer researchers for many years. This interest is driven in ...

Consumer preferences for white maize in East and Southern Africa concerns developers of maize biofortified with provitamin A carotenoids, since carotenoids impart a yellow or orange coloration. Urban consumers willingness to pay (WTP) for yellow maize was estimated, using a semi-double-bounded logistic model, based on a survey of 600 maize consumers in Nairobi, Kenya, at posho mills, kiosks and supermarkets. Consumers showed a strong preference for white maize. Only a minority would buy yellow maize at the same price as white maize, and fewer consumers in the posho mills (24%) and kiosks (19%) than in the supermarkets (34%) would do so. On average, consumers need a price discount of 37% to accept yellow maize. This discount was less at the posho mills (35%) and kiosks (37%) than in the supermarkets (48%). Most respondents (76%) were aware of the existence of fortified meal and the generally showed an interest. The average premium for fortified maize was much less than
The global empty capsules market is expected to reach USD 2.57 billion by 2024, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. Key factors responsible for the growth are the increase in the geriatric population, proliferation of pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical industries, globally and the upsurge in the consumer preferences for capsules over tablets.. The rising geriatric population count and the associated chronic conditions are expected to heighten the demand for the production of capsule-centric medications in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical application areas. Moreover, the benefits associated with capsule consumption, such as ease of swallowing, faster absorption rates, and increased palatability are also expected to contribute significantly to the expansion of the market over the forecast period.. The mushrooming of the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical industries is expected to serve as a high impact rendering driver for the empty capsules ...
Previous studies have shown that customer satisfaction plays a key role in the health and future success of any company. When customers are satisfied, they keep coming back to the same store and invite their friends to do the same. Now, a new study from the University of Missouri has found that CEOs who pay attention to employees job satisfaction are able to boost both customer satisfaction and "repurchase intentions," or the number of customers that intend to purchase products from the store.. "You might think that as an owner, you only need to pay attention to the customers, providing them with what they want. Yet, we found that keeping your employees satisfied with their work experience, providing them with challenges and allowing them to have a sense of ownership in the business can have a tremendous effect on customer satisfaction and loyalty," said Christopher Groening, assistant professor of marketing in the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business. "The link between customer ...

The Survey of Consumer Attitudes and Behavior series (also known as the Surveys of Consumers) was undertaken to measure changes in consumer attitudes and expectations, to understand why such changes occur, and to evaluate how they relate to consumer decisions to save, borrow, or make discretionary purchases. This type of information is essential for forecasting changes in aggregate consumer behavior. Since the 1940s, these surveys have been produced quarterly through 1977 and monthly thereafter. Each monthly survey probes a different aspect of consumer confidence. Open-ended questions are asked concerning evaluations and expectations about personal finances, employment, price changes, and the national business situation. Additional questions probe buying intentions for automobiles and computers, and the respondents appraisals of present market conditions for purchasing houses, automobiles, computers, and other durables. Also explored in this survey were respondents types of savings and ...

Organizations need to retain existing customers while targeting non-customers.[8] Measuring customer satisfaction provides an indication of how successful the organization is at providing products and/or services to the marketplace. "Customer satisfaction is measured at the individual level, but it is almost always reported at an aggregate level. It can be, and often is, measured along various dimensions. A hotel, for example, might ask customers to rate their experience with its front desk and check-in service, with the room, with the amenities in the room, with the restaurants, and so on. Additionally, in a holistic sense, the hotel might ask about overall satisfaction with your stay."[1] As research on consumption experiences grows, evidence suggests that consumers purchase goods and services for a combination of two types of benefits: hedonic and utilitarian[9]. Hedonic benefits are associated with the sensory and experiential attributes of the product. Utilitarian benefits of a product ...

to why customer satisfaction is the best indicator in assessing the real impact trainings make. According to the article, evaluating training by assessing customer satisfaction is easy to carry out and draw conclusion from, cheap in cost and has other spill over effects. On the other hand, the article also argued against the relevancy and effectiveness of the current dominant way of evaluating business by saying the orthodox method is expensive, time-consuming, complicated in terms of determining which outcome that should be evaluated. Traditionally, training can be assessed in four stages wherein each successive stages are progressively more informative than the previous. The first three stages involve collecting trainees opinion of the training, testing what they have learned, and gauging the changes in their behaviour during work. Only in the final stage of this orthodox method does business impact during post-training period is measured. In the context of evaluating the impact of trainings ...

The objectives of this study were: (1) to evaluate consumer acceptance of cheeses varying in fat and sodium levels, (2) to determine if sensitivity to reward and body mass index has an effect on product liking based on fat or salt content, (3) to evaluate the use of FaceReader technology during consumer evaluation and, (4) to determine if consumers self-selected, conscious emotions matched with the expressed, subconscious emotions acquired by FaceReader. Consumer acceptance testing (n=108) was conducted on two medium cheddar cheeses with varying fat levels and two low-moisture part-skim mozzarella cheeses varying in sodium levels. Attributes were measured using a 9-point hedonic scale. In order to measure reward sensitivity, participants completed the BIS/BAS questionnaire and the SPSRQ prior to consumer acceptance testing. SIMS sensory software was used for data collection. The complete consumption experience was video recorded (n=83). A choose-all-that-apply format was used so participants could
Since the early 2010s, the emergence of a new consumer has begun. In this context, consumer behavior represents one of the greatest interests of marketing scholars and business managers due to their need to adapt their companies strategies to the new frontier. In order to advance understanding of this new consumer, this article focuses on analyzing consumer behavior in shopping streets. Thus, the aim of this research is to know what customers value in terms of salesperson-customer interaction quality nowadays. To achieve this, the authors conducted two studies. The results of the first study show that customers cite personal attention as the primary factor motivating their preference for small retailers in shopping streets. However, this motivation is not as relevant one for those who prefer malls. This result provides a point on which to research service quality incorporating personal attention in a second study. Using the SERVQUAL-P scale, the authors elaborate three lenses through which the quality

Elementary path analysis was employed to test these propositions. Of interest are the magnitudes of the coefficients of determination and the comparative magnitudes of the (standardized) regression coefficients attributable to each of the independent variables within equations for each sample taken separately and for each variable across samples. Relative stability of the weights across situations would lend further support to the basic expectancy disconfirmation model.. RESULTS. Zero-order correlations between all variables across the two sample and measurement groups are shown in Table 1. The data are remarkably consistent across all analyses. Satisfaction was significantly correlated with its hypothesized antecedents in all cases, although disconfirmation yielded the highest correlations in the female sample. Preference (coded as change in preference) was most highly correlated with disconfirmation in all cases although significant correlations were also obtained with satisfaction and to a ...

This time however, Miller focuses on consumer psychology rather than the psychology of sexual relationships. Why we buy what we buy, rather than why we mate with who we mate.. The central thesis is the same, that our minds are hardwired by millennia of evolution to find certain things and certain people attractive. The aim of this paper is to reveal and discuss the methodological issues related to online qualitative consumer behavior research. A number of methodological issues are examined, related with the online qualitative research on consumer in-store emotional experience implemented by the authors. It is concluded that the Internet is becoming an increasingly attractive environment for consumer behavior research. A large part of scholars use the Internet as a medium for data collection and analysis. At the same time, researchers study the Internet as a source of information about consumer preferences, their virtual communities, prevailing relationships, traditions and attitudes. The Internet is analyzed as a phenomenon in itself, too. In this article, the Internet is analyzed as a tool for communicating with research participants, and collecting, storing and analyzing data. In general, qualitative inquiry is characterized by contextual and naturalistic approach to the study of objects and processes. ...

ABSTRACT - The ease of navigation afforded by e-commerce threatens to remove many of the consumer search costs that some retailers rely upon to create or enhance product differentiation and exposes consumers to more products within the scope of a typical search period than ever before. The existence of (and the ability to reasonably search) a greatly-expanded universe of options may impact consumers perceptions of product category parity and consumption emotions such as choice confidence and satisfaction. The effect of parity judgments and choice satisfaction on issues of price sensitivity and channel adoption, respectively, render this an important issue. We investigate this domain via multiple methodologies. Findings suggest that e-retailers may have little to fear, and even much to gain, from the effects of larger search sets on consumers. ...

Miller argues that marketers still use simplistic models of human nature that remain uninformed by the past 20 years of research by evolutionary psychologists and behavioural ecologists. As a result, they still believe that premium products are bought to display wealth, status, and taste, and they miss the deeper mental traits that people are actually wired to display - traits such as kindness, intelligence, and creativity. This, Miller claims, limits their success rate.. But Miller does not preach; he also thinks evolutionary psychologists could learn a thing or two from marketers. Through their experience of selling real products, marketers develop an intuitive understanding of consumer behaviour that could help evolutionary psychologists refine their theories of evolved preferences and sexual signalling. If this dialogue develops as Miller hopes it will, a rich seam of new research might be opened up.. His newfound enthusiasm for marketing does not mean he has become an uncritical ...
The price/quality relationship comprises consumers perceptions of value. High prices are often taken as a sign of quality, especially when the product or service lacks search qualities that can be inspected prior to purchase.[54] Understanding consumers perceptions of the price/quality relationship is most important in the case of complex products that are hard to test, and experiential products that cannot be tested until used (such as most services). The greater the uncertainty surrounding a product, the more consumers depend on the price/quality signal and the greater premium they may be prepared to pay. Consumers can have different perceptions on premium pricing, and this factor makes it important for the marketer to understand consumer behaviour. According to Vigneron and Johnsons figure on "Prestige-Seeking Consumer Behaviours", Consumers can be categorised into four groups. These groups being; Hedonist & Perfectionist, snob, bandwagon and veblenian. [55] These categories rank from ...
Introduction. Angela Clucas - HND Food Trends Assignment Religion and Culture play an important role in influencing consumer behaviour in relation to food intake Human beings are not born with a set of behaviour, they have to learn it. What they learn is dictated by the culture into which they are born or within which they grow up - J Bareham (1995) Culture makes us similar to some people but different to the vast majority. It is learnt as a person grows up within society and can be either taught or imitated. Formal instruction comes from parents but a person also learns by imitating peers and persons in the media. Culture compromises of many aspects such as Language, Politics, everyday food habits and Religion with considerable variation across the world, for example in China, which is predominantly Buddhist, it is acceptable to eat Dog but not Beef, as Cows are considered sacred. People in Western society find it difficult to understand that the Chinese eat dogs, because dogs remind them of ...

Every year hundreds of food recalls are made due to contamination. The main focus of this paper is to examine the effects of specific food events on consumers confidence in food safety as well as their preparedness regarding the United States food system. The food events studied in this are major food-borne illnesses outbreaks and recalls that have occurred since May 2008. The three events chosen included: the salmonella outbreak in jalapeno and Serrano peppers occurring in 2008, the salmonella outbreak in peanut butter occurring in 2009, and the E.coli outbreak in Nestle cookie dough occurring in 2009. An ordered probit model was used to measure the effects that these specific foodborne illnesses had on consumers confidence. The results revealed that the effect of the jalapeno and Serrano peppers and peanut butter significantly and negatively impact consumers confidence. The Nestle recall had a negative impact on confidence but was not significant. Hill, Jessica I.; Bharad, Abhishek Bhagwat;

The paper presents the selected results of consumers study of food products in Serbia. It focuses on the products with nutrition and health claims (NHCs) and the analysis of the main consumers characteristics which influence their awareness and knowledge about NHCs, their attitudes toward products with NHC and their purchase intentions. Different socio-demographic factors that influence consumers behavior were investigated. Education, gender, age and income of the respondents are the key factors which influence awareness, knowledge and consumption. As those products are closely related to consumers health, we presented the results based on the differences in health status of the respondents. Main findings show that the respondents with health problems do not consume those products as often as others, which is the outcome of a low level of nutrition knowledge. This represents a major restraining factor for the increase in consumption. After identifying the characteristics of demand, we have suggested

Most studies suggest that environmental taxes are regressive, and thus are unattractive policy options. We consider the distributional effects of a gasoline tax increase using three welfare measures and under three scenarios for gas tax revenue use. To incorporate behavioral responses we use Consumer Expenditure Survey data to estimate a consumer demand system that includes gasoline, other goods, and leisure. We find that the gas tax is regressive, but that returning the revenue through a lump-sum transfer more than offsets this, yielding a net increase in progressivity. We also find that ignoring behavioral changes in distributional calculations overstates both the overall burden of the tax and its regressivity. ...

Most of the observable phenomena in the empirical sciences are of a multivariate nature. In financial studies, assets in the stock markets are observed simultaneously and their joint development is analyzed to better understand general tendencies and to track indices. In medicine recorded observations of subjects in different locations are the basis of reliable diagnoses and medication. In quantitative marketing consumer preferences are collected in order to construct models of consumer behavior.

The Consumers Association in its latest Which? report exposes weaknesses in the Governments proposals for greater choice in healthcare. The adoption of choice is expected to transform healthcare and the NHS. The claim is that patient choice and market mechanisms will create a modern, decentralised and more personalised NHS that is responsive to consumers needs. The Which? report considers the proposals from the consumers perspective using new research on consumers attitudes and experiences of choice in healthcare. The research revealed that choosing can be an unwanted and overwhelming burden at times of stress and vulnerability. For many, the concept of choice was so alien to their experiences of the NHS that they found it difficult to imagine how it would work in practice. They had little knowledge of current proposals to increase choice and develop new roles for health professionals and primary care services. Many also knew little about how to use these services. Tackling this knowledge ...

At first glance, this AdReaction research might lead people to think that the more intrusive an ad is, the less consumers like it. Telemarketing, for example, is the most intrusive type of advertising and ranks at the bottom of the list. But TV and radio ads are mid to high on the consumer preference list even though they interrupt content for minutes at a time and cannot be closed (without TiVo-like technology). In fact, TV and radio spots are more popular with consumers than formats that take less time and can be quickly closed, skipped, or ended (Web, direct mail, telemarketing). Even Magazine and Newspaper advertising, which rate high on the list overall, often feature full-page ads that block content completely and must be dealt with (page turned). ...

A leading driver of this disturbing trend is consumer preference for expensive hospitals over local clinics or basic care facilities." (Via Meadia). Actually the "expensive" hospitals, which in the case of Massachusetts are mostly teaching hospitals (which means they train new physicians in residency programs), deliver significantly better outcomes for a large number of procedures. Yes they are more expensive, but they deliver superior health care for many different conditions.. Everyone who is sick wants the best treatment available; the question for society is whether we want to limit the best treatment available to people wealthy enough to afford it.. You can have your coronary artery bypass graft at Cape Cod hospital if you want to; it is cheaper than getting it done at MGH. But if you make that choice its not your heart thats your real problem, its your brain.. The US consumer accounts for 16% of total global GDP, with a value of $10trn. By comparison, total Asian consumption is under $5trn. Chinas consumption in 2008 was just $1.6trn, about equal to the UK. Changes in US consumer behaviour are therefore critical to global GDP, and hence to chemical demand. The chart above, from the ACC weekly report, shows the dramatic change that is taking place in US consumer behaviour. Taken from Federal Reserve data, it shows that total US consumer debt has fallen by $114bn since its peak of $2.561trn in 2008. The big shift is in credit card and other revolving debt, which has fallen by $100bn over the same period.. This represents a major shift in behaviour. As the chart shows, consumer debt actually rose slightly during 1990-94, when the economy last suffered a major downturn. Since 2008, however, the consumer has been paying down debt at the rate of 5% pa (blue line).. Similarly, US household debt peaked at $13.854trn in Q1 2008, and has since fallen each ...
