This case study found that within two years of the ten nurse consultant posts being created in a primary care organisation only five remained and within five years (2009) only two part time posts, with the original appointees, remained. As a workforce innovation, the conclusion must be, that in this community services setting the nurse consultant roles were not successfully assimilated into the health care system.. The study explored the interaction between the innovation (the nurse consultant posts), the adoptees (the senior staff in the organisation) and the context (the immediate service colleagues, the service organisation and commissioners as well as the broader NHS policy context) and identified key factors which were influential in the demise of the posts. These factors were: a) the extent to which there was support for individual nurses rather than the post, b) the extent to which there was an unambiguous and uncontested clinical service requirement for a nurse consultant and c) the ...

The CSU would have approximately 130 beds, with 2 consultants on call from 8am to 6pm. The Clinical Lead for Paediatrics at EGH has expressed the view that it is unsafe for 2 Consultants to cover this number of beds and many children would not be seen by a Consultant once admitted to Hospital. It seems illogical that the sickest children (i.e. those who require admission to the in-patient unit) should not be seen on a daily basis by a Consultant. Currently, we have a flexible Consultant delivered service where the sickest children are all seen on or soon after admission by a Consultant and all children are seen at least once a day by a Consultant thereafter. Regular handover occur with Consultant presence, ensuring that Consultants are fully aware of the needs of all children under their care. We will firmly resist participating in a system that will not allow these essential safety standards to be maintained. ...

Adequately staffed, resourced, and trained microbiological services are crucial to an effective tuberculosis programme. Every endeavour should be made to obtain samples for microscopic examination and culture. Microscopic examination of sputum permits identification of infectious cases and culture allows mycobacterial identification and drug susceptibility testing. Samples sent for histological examination must also be sent for microbiological examination as fresh or frozen material without formalin. In most hospitals the microbiologist is also the hospital infection control doctor and laboratory data will facilitate this role in determining infectivity and the scope of an outbreak investigation, for example.. All patients with tuberculosis should be under the care of physicians and nurses with full training in the disease.12 Successful treatment of tuberculosis relies on a strong working relationship between a consultant physician, who manages the clinical aspects of the patients treatment, ...

It was an intense, busy day today. But it feels good. At some point over the last couple of years Ive become a midwife. Im increasingly confident in my knowledge and with my practice. I have held on to the love I have for walking with women through the challenges and pain of birthing, and I feel more confident in the day to day tasks of catching babies, managing (or referring) issues which come up, even the big bad and scary ones. Here Ive been privileged to work with outstanding midwives, who each have literally THOUSANDS (20 year careers, 35-45 births a month, you do the maths!) of births to their credit. Hundreds and hundreds of women and babies whose lives theyve saved with their care. Ive enjoyed the respect and tutelage of the resident and consultant physicians here. Ive worked in a team, providing good, safe and effective care to a much more risk-diverse population than Im used to (or would ever serve at home!) with minimal resources. Working here has reinforced for me that the ...
A new study raises concerns over use of macrolide antibiotics in patients with coronary heart disease - after finding clarithromycin appeared to significantly raise mortality.. The findings came in a trial to see whether clarithromycin could reduce deaths in patients with stable CHD by killing Chlamydia pneumoniae bacteria.. In the US, the Food and Drug Administration issued an alert to doctors urging them to be aware of the study. It follows research first reported by Pulse in September last year finding macrolides were associated with an increased risk of cardiac death.. Study leader Dr Christian Jespersen, consultant physician in cardiology at Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark, said: Short-term, clarithromycin in patients with stable CHD may cause significantly higher cardiovascular mortality.. The trial of 4,373 patients aged 18 to 85 - published online by the BMJ - found CVD mortality was 45 per cent higher in those taking the drug versus placebo. All-cause mortality was 27 per cent ...

While dentists may consult with patients on the best course of treatment for giving dental problem, I think one does both dentists and consultants a disservice by referring to dentists AS consultants.. BTW, the writer of this blog post really should go back to school to learn proper English. The consultants are everywhere to serve best for any kind of service you want.". ??r. ...

For that reason we gladly share our network of antimicrobial regulatory consultants. Below, we provide information about several regulatory consulting firms.. Our website is also a useful resource. For example, we wrote an article about EPAs treated article exemption for antimicrobial surfaces, an article about the difference between GLP and GMP testing, and an article about hand sanitizer regulations.. Antimicrobial regulatory consultants are particularly helpful when classification of a device or chemical based on its contents and label claims is not obvious, when companies need federal or state registration paperwork filed, or when regulatory agencies such as EPA or FDA require special data to proceed with registration.. The consulting firms listed below charge fees for the time they spend working on antimicrobial registrations or providing antimicrobial ...
