Background: Neonatal mortality is a major public health problem. Its reduction is one of the targets of the objectives for sustainable development. Objectives: To determine the frequency of late neonatal mortality, to determine the causes of death and to identify the factors associated with late neonatal mortality at Brazzaville University Hospital. Patients and methods: This was a descriptive and analytical study conducted in the neonatal department of the Brazzaville University Hospital from 1 January to 30 June 2018. It concerned all newborns admitted to the service and died between 7th and 28th day of life. The variables studied were epidemiological, clinical and evolutionary. For the study of the factors associated with late mortality, we compared the deceased newborns with those hospitalized in the service whose stay was at least seven days. The materiality threshold was 5%. Results: During the study period, 697 newborns were admitted to the service, 286 (41%) died, 79 (27.6%) on the seventh day

Chronic Hepatitis B infection is a major health problem in Republic of Congo therefore molecular analysis of HBV strains is important to detect the patients at high risk of disease progression. Serum samples were obtained from 111 chronic HBV patients in Pointe Noire. HBsAg, HBeAg and HBeAb were detected. A fragment of the preS1 region of HBV was amplified and sequenced to determine genotypes, subgenotypes and to identify mutations. Of the 111 samples analyzed, 35 patients were asymptomatic carriers (ASC), 24 with a chronic active hepatitis (CAH), 33 with liver cirrhosis (LC) and 19 have a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The mean age were 45 ± 13 year, 88 (79.3 %) were male and 23 (20.7 %) female. The prevalence of HBeAg was 15.3 % and 73 % of subjects were anti-HBe positive. The mean serum level of alanine aminotransferase transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST) was 25.1 ± 9 IU/L and 28.6 ± 10 IU/L respectively. This article is about the demographic features of the population of the Republic of the Congo, including population density, ethnicity, education level, health of the populace, economic status, religious affiliations and other aspects of the population. The Republic of the Congos sparse population is concentrated in the southwestern portion of the country, leaving the vast areas of tropical jungle in the north virtually uninhabited. Thus, Congo is one of the most urbanized countries in Africa, with 85% of its total population living in a few urban areas, namely in Brazzaville, Pointe-Noire, or one of the small cities or villages lining the 534-kilometre (332 mi) railway which connects the two cities. In rural areas, industrial and commercial activity has declined rapidly in recent years, leaving rural economies dependent on the government for support and subsistence. Before the 1997 war, about 15,000 Europeans and other non-Africans lived in Congo, most of whom were French. Presently, only ...
Diabetes is increasingly recognized as a serious, worldwide public health concern, due to its prevalence. Many scholars have focused on understanding the distribution of diabetes in terms of race, gender, and age. When considering the distribution of diabetes per ethnicity, researchers agree that African immigrants are not exempt of having diabetes. In addition, several studies argued that primary concerns of diabetes are diet, physical activity, and lifestyle. To further analyzing the study of diabetes distribution per ethnicity, some research focuses on the impact of factors such as diet, physical activity, and lifestyle on African immigrants. The aim of the current inquiry is to shine new light on these debates through an assessment of perception of risk factors associated with diabetes among Congolese immigrants by demographic-based. To accomplish such aim, a cross-sectional study was used to examine subjective responses on their perception of risk factors towards diabetes among Congolese ...

Seeing that the militant leftist opposition was not giving up, Massamba-Débat ended up yielding and proclaimed an amnesty, freeing Marien Ngouabi, among other political prisoners in mid 1968. Following the amnesty Massamba-Débat relinquished his power in September giving way to a period of instability. Finally on 31 December 1968 Marien Ngouabi became the head of state. The new leader officially proclaimed a Socialist-oriented state in the form of a "Popular Republic" on 31 January 1969. The administration became strongly centralized in Brazzaville and the main government posts were taken over by Congolese Workers Party -Parti congolais du travail (PCT)- cadres after abolishing the national assembly of the previous republic. The Marxist-Leninist PCT held a constitutive congress in the capital from 29 to 31 December 1969, becoming the sole party of the new state. Marien Ngouabi further introduced a number of communist policies -such as nationalizing the means of production- in the succeeding ...

While his geographical settings vary from the conflict-stricken west African coast of Brazzaville Beach (1990) to the romantic vistas of the Philippine islands in The Blue Afternoon (1993), his recurrent character focus is the English personality and how it adapts - or fails to adapt - to the demands of a foreign landscape. Like Henderson Dores, the introverted Englishman turned extrovert Manhattanite in Stars and Bars (1984), Englishness under pressure is seen to undergo the most radical metamorphoses, and yet remain, at the same time, irrepressibly resilient.. In his 1981 debut novel, A Good Man in Africa, Boyd displayed his affiliation to an English tradition of the comic novel of expatriate life, together with his allegiance to one of his many literary mentors, Evelyn Waugh. In the figure of Morgan Leafy, a hapless British diplomat struggling to master the complexities of his posting to a corrupt west African country (the fictional Kinjanja), Boyd also echoed the post-war formula of the ...

SARW organises a conference on the case known as Argor, a Swiss Gold rafiney. The Argor Case is a case in which it refined nearly three tons of Congolese gold between 2004 and 2005 without complying with the due diligence principle or wondering whether the gold was legally or illicitly traded. Argor was taken to the Swiss Confederation Court by international NGOs. After years of investigation, the case was dismissed in March 2015, as the Congolese State failed to appear as plaintiff. This case exposes regrettably the inability of the Congolese State to claim on time, even when the conditions are in its favour, its property rights over its own property that has been illegally traded.
