Initially, the patient appeared to have classic coeliac disease, with diarrhoea and weight loss together with a positive serology. The endoscopy was crucial as the duodenal biopsies identified the presence of a thick band-like deposit of collagen just below the duodenal epithelium. On the basis of this finding, collagenous sprue was diagnosed.. Collagenous sprue was first described in 1947,1 but it was not until 1970 that Weinstein et al. introduced it as a diagnostic term to the medical nomenclature.2 Collagenous sprue is more frequent in females and in individuals who have other autoimmune diseases.3 It is now recognised that collagenous sprue shares similar clinical features with coeliac disease, such as chronic diarrhoea, anaemia and weight loss. In addition, the endoscopic and histological features of both diseases are similar, with an atrophic and scalloped duodenal mucosa. However, the histological hallmark of collagenous sprue is the presence of a thick subepithelial collagen band. Such ...
Get the sprue, runner and gate sizes close to ideal the first time around-without spending a lot of time on extremely complicated formulas.
The build is complex and time consuming (it took me around ten hours to complete). Kotobukiyas signature laminations of sharply detailed parts creates a rich, layered series of components. The part count and construction process is roughly equal to Bandais Master Grade series. Kotobukiya mostly holds its own with MG models, but I found the sprue placement to be problematic. Whereas Bandai has honed its molding technique to incorporate conical sprues in discreet locations, this model uses big, fat sprues in highly visible places. As a moderately serious modeler, Im distracted by the sprue bruises in the final product, and not willing to go the next step to sand, putty, and paint the model to take it to the next level.. ...

Conclusions 179 I In a previous communication (1), one of us (Boyd, 1920) called attention to the existence in Texas of indigenous cases of a disease considered to be sprue, and reported the isolation of Ashford's monilia from them. The potential importance of this disease demanded that the scope of these observations be extended. During the past two years there has been conducted in this laboratory a study of the monilias of the gastrontestinal tract in relationship to sprue, the results of which are presented in this paper. II Since the previous communication there have come to our attention three additional cases presenting the symptomatology of sprue.

The box contains 3 sprues and the lower and upper hull. All in all, theres 75 parts, but 30 of those are cannons, so theres really only about 40 parts to be assembled. Prepare, however, for tackling at least as many seams. There is a lot of flash and some quick dry-fitting tells me Ill have a lot of work sanding all the parts flush. The hull parts are slightly warped and no amount of tape or clamps will fit them nicely together. The starboard side is acceptable, with the upper hull protruding about 0.2-0.5 mm, easily solved with (a lot of) sanding. The portside easily protrudes up to 2 mm, so that will require either hard work or simply accepting the way it fits ...
Good post Gwen.. If I might add to it, I would say to the OP, (as he has given us VERY limited information) that:-. 1) secondary sprues/air holes may need to be increased in thickness and number (possibly no sprues have been used up to now?) Bring them up to the level of the funnel when full. This is very important.. 2) Temperature of the aluminium may need to be increased. 3) Mould may need to be heated to a higher temperature before pouring. 4) The size of the funnel part and the hole leading into the mould may need to be increased quite dramatically. Thus allowing more weight of liquid aluminium to force the molten aluminium into the mould. This also means that a far greater amount of aluminium must be melted for each pour and more sprue material must be cut off and made good.... 5) Cleanliness of mould is suspect. Blow though with air before usage.. 6) aluminium scrap is being reused without proper cleaning of the molten metal?. 7) The crucible is not being properly cleaned.. I am sure ...

DefinitionCeliac disease is a condition caused by damage to the lining of the small intestine. This damage comes from a reaction to eating gluten. This is a substance that is found in wheat, rye, barley, and possibly oats. It is also found in food made from these ingredients.
In the present paper are presented the considerations which have convinced the writer that pernicious anemia and sprue are two distinct disease entities, and that the former is not a final picture of the latter or vice-versa, as Christian (1) and others have suggested. On the basis of a detailed study of 45 cases of sprue in Porto Rico, the conclusion has been reached that in the average case the diagnosis is easily made by the general practitioner in routine examination. It is only occasionally, and this in the advanced stage of sprue,-the so-called sprue cachexia,-that the clinical picture bears such a resemblance to pernicious anemia as to readily lead to confusion. Even in these instances the writer is convinced that a thorough clinical and laboratory examination by the ordinary methods available in the average hospital will establish an absolute diagnosis in over 75 per cent of the cases.
