The Child Health Services Research Interest Group (CHSR IG) envisions a future where all children and their communities are made healthier by the use of evidence in decision-making. In support of this vision, the CHSR IG advocates for the production and use of high-quality evidence to promote the health of all children in health care and other settings and to build a strong foundation for health over the life course. To this end, the IG has the following goals: (1) support researchers across the course of their careers, (2) grow a community of passionate researchers, (3) promote evidence-based advocacy for optimal child health, and (4) provide opportunities to disseminate results in popular and traditional areas of research. This webinar supports these goals by highlighting the work of early career researchers, strengthening our CHSR community, and adding to the evidence base for child health services by providing a forum for child health services researchers to share their work with their ...

As part of our agenda of looking at how we can improve outcomes for our most vulnerable children, Childrens Services staff in East Lothian council asked Dr Burns to speak to us about the role of Attachment in Early years and the impact it has on health and outcomes in later life. It was very inspiring talk. Many of us in Childrens Services are very aware of how important attachment is. The key messages and learning for us were: · The physiological consequences of poor attachment in relation to brain development and good physical health in adulthood. · As service providers we need to be aware of the danger of making people passive recipients of services rather than being actively engaged.. This increases their sense of hopelessness and being out of control A summary of the talk follows below helpfully provided by Vivien McVie (Policy and Planning Officer) Childrens Services. The biopsy results will likely be ready in a few days or a week. Your childs healthcare provider will tell you the results. He or she will talk with you about other tests that may be needed if cancer is found. ...

The advertisement I chose to analyze was Childrens Healthcare of Atlantas Rewind the Future. The commercial was released on September 18th, 2013 as part of their Strong For Life campaign making it a little over a year old. The commercial is meant to create a shocking reaction that many viewers can identify with either personally, or through someone they know.Since this advertisement is being presented by the Childrens Healthcare of Atlanta, they are using ethos as its primary persuasive tactic.. The advertisement opens with a point of view shot from a 32 year old man on an emergency room table in cardiac arrest. As the doctors go over his vitals one asks "how does this happen?" We then begin to rewind as we see his eating habits through his life all the way back to his infancy where his mother is appeasing him with french fries to keep him from crying. The screen cuts to black and in writing says your childs future; we then cut to an aerial shot of the medical staff cutting the patient out ...

Expand Comprehensive Coverage. SCHIP programs should provide comprehensive, quality health care coverage to the largest number of uninsured children possible.. A.. Congress should expand SCHIP to allow states to include children through 21 years of age. States should adopt the highest income eligibility allowable and should discontinue asset testing to determine eligibility. I am concerned that not only is SCHIP a socialistic program but look at the title of it. The word CHIP is embedded in the title. This whole push for socialized medicine (Michael Moore being one of the pushers)is a very dangerous prospect. As our health system stands right now, it is controlled by the corporations which IS the government. The corporations are meshed with the government. I think thats called fascism. On the one hand Michael Moore tells us how horrible our healthcare system is and that it is the fault of the corporations. Then he tells us that we need government run healthcare......which is ONE with the corporations. This makes no sense. Michael Moore appears to be controlled opposition. He is making the people think that the Elites solution (government controlled health care) is their idea so we will end up clamoring for it and accepting it. ...

Even though most children are healthy and have a limited number of interactions with the health care system, at least 9.6% of children in our sample received at least 1 of 20 low-value pediatric services during 2014, consistent with the notion that waste in pediatrics may be widespread. Although previous literature has documented significant underuse of high-value pediatric services such as immunizations,63 our findings suggest that overuse of low-value services may be an equally pressing deficiency in pediatric care quality. Our findings are similar to those of previous studies showing frequent use of low-value services among adults,3-11 which suggests that interventions to improve care efficiency should include patients across the entire age spectrum.. This study highlights the clinical and policy importance of reducing the use of low-value pediatric services. Most importantly, the services assessed in our study can directly harm children both in the short term (eg, side effects from ...
Adverse health effects in children caused by environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) are well known. Children are primarily exposed by their parents smoking in their homes. A comprehensive evidence base shows that parental smoking during pregnancy and ETS exposure in early childhood are associated with an increased risk for a range of adverse health problems. Child Health Care nurses, who meet nearly all families in Sweden with children aged 0-6 years, have thus an important role in tobacco preventive work in order to support parents in their ambitions to protect their children from ETS exposure.. The overall aim of this thesis was to develop, test and evaluate a new model for tobacco preventive work in Child Health Care (CHC) with special focus on areas with a high prevalence of parental smoking. In a first step CHC nurses and parents views on tobacco preventive work were analysed in two studies based on questionnaires.. The intervention was performed during the second step, based on the results ...

As Republicans in Congress continue efforts to pass tax reform, the November Kaiser Health Tracking Poll examines views of the plans and how they relate to health care issues. Overall, reforming the tax code is seen as a "top priority" for President Trump and Congress by about three in ten (28 percent), falling well-behind several health care issues such as reauthorizing funding for the State Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP) (62 percent) and stabilizing the ACA marketplaces (48 percent). In addition, the majority of the public (55 percent) support the idea of eliminating the requirement for all Americans to have health insurance or else pay a fine as part of the Republican tax plan, however views vary party. In contrast, the majority of the public (68 percent), including majorities across parties, oppose eliminating the tax deduction for individuals who have high health care costs. The poll also takes an early look at the publics views of the potential consequence of Congress not ...
Kimmel was returning to his late-night show after taking a week off for the boys second heart surgery.. His voice cracking at times, Kimmel gave a monologue calling on the US Congress to restore a childrens health insurance programme that has recently lapsed.. He said it was "disgusting" that politicians had prioritised "getting tax cuts for their billionaire and millionaire donors".. Kimmels son, Billy, had surgery soon after he was born in April and the eight-month-old had another operation last week.. The host wants US politicians to restore the Childrens Health Insurance Program, which has been unfunded since September because of a political stalemate.. Kimmel said the programme had covered nine million children and was in place for several decades.. However, he said it was now on the "backburner while they (politicians) work out their new tax plans, which means parents of children with cancer, diabetes and heart problems are about to get letters saying their coverage could be cut off ...
