The Child Health Services Research Interest Group (CHSR IG) envisions a future where all children and their communities are made healthier by the use of evidence in decision-making. OFSTED RATES CHILDRENS SERVICES POOR IN NINE COUNCILS
Childrens Services provided by nine local authorities have been judged to be poor in the first Ofsted annual ratings measuring performance in 152 councils in England. More than two-thirds of councils are delivering excellent or good services and forty others have been rated as merely adequate in todays report. In those councils performing poorly overall Ofsted says this was due mainly to weaknesses in safeguarding children.Christine Gilbert, Her Majestys Chief Inspector, said the new inspection system gave the clearest picture yet of what was happening on the ground for children and young people. In this first year of our new approach, I have made it clear that we have raised expectations for local authorities. We are considering a wider range of services and outcomes for children and young people, and in that sense we are being more demanding, she said. The annual rating is a wide-ranging assessment of outcomes for children and young people in every local authority area and it is strongly ...

Implementation Principles and Strategies for the State Childrens Health Insurance Program | AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS |...
As states continue to refine their SCHIP programs, the Academy suggests that the following principles and implementation and evaluation strategies be incorporated in their efforts:. 1.. Expand Comprehensive Coverage. SCHIP programs should provide comprehensive, quality health care coverage to the largest number of uninsured children possible.. A.. Congress should expand SCHIP to allow states to include children through 21 years of age. States should adopt the highest income eligibility allowable and should discontinue asset testing to determine eligibility. To reach even more children, more flexible income limits should be considered.. B.. States should allow adolescent emancipated minors to be evaluated for SCHIP eligibility based on their own income.22. C.. States should consider offering a SCHIP buy-in option for children whose family incomes are above their states SCHIP eligibility level but who do not have access to or cannot afford comprehensive private insurance.. The Lyme Disease Sentinel Blog: STATE CHILD HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM ( SCHIP )
I am concerned that not only is SCHIP a socialistic program but look at the title of it. The word CHIP is embedded in the title. This whole push for socialized medicine (Michael Moore being one of the pushers)is a very dangerous prospect. As our health system stands right now, it is controlled by the corporations which IS the government. The corporations are meshed with the government. I think thats called fascism. On the one hand Michael Moore tells us how horrible our healthcare system is and that it is the fault of the corporations. Then he tells us that we need government run healthcare......which is ONE with the corporations. This makes no sense. Michael Moore appears to be controlled opposition. He is making the people think that the Elites solution (government controlled health care) is their idea so we will end up clamoring for it and accepting it. ...

Use of Low-Value Pediatric Services Among the Commercially Insured | American Academy of Pediatrics
Even though most children are healthy and have a limited number of interactions with the health care system, at least 9.6% of children in our sample received at least 1 of 20 low-value pediatric services during 2014, consistent with the notion that waste in pediatrics may be widespread. Although previous literature has documented significant underuse of high-value pediatric services such as immunizations,63 our findings suggest that overuse of low-value services may be an equally pressing deficiency in pediatric care quality. Our findings are similar to those of previous studies showing frequent use of low-value services among adults,3-11 which suggests that interventions to improve care efficiency should include patients across the entire age spectrum.. This study highlights the clinical and policy importance of reducing the use of low-value pediatric services. Most importantly, the services assessed in our study can directly harm children both in the short term (eg, side effects from ...

How to minimize childrens environmental tobacco smoke exposure : An intervention study in a child health service setting
Adverse health effects in children caused by environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) are well known. Children are primarily exposed by their parents smoking in their homes. A comprehensive evidence base shows that parental smoking during pregnancy and ETS exposure in early childhood are associated with an increased risk for a range of adverse health problems. Child Health Care nurses, who meet nearly all families in Sweden with children aged 0-6 years, have thus an important role in tobacco preventive work in order to support parents in their ambitions to protect their children from ETS exposure.. In a first step CHC nurses and parents views on tobacco preventive work were analysed in two studies based on questionnaires.. The intervention was performed during the second step, based on the results ...

Polling | Search Results | The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation
As Republicans in Congress continue efforts to pass tax reform, the November Kaiser Health Tracking Poll examines views of the plans and how they relate to health care issues. Overall, reforming the tax code is seen as a top priority for President Trump and Congress by about three in ten (28 percent), falling well-behind several health care issues such as reauthorizing funding for the State Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP) (62 percent) and stabilizing the ACA marketplaces (48 percent). In addition, the majority of the public (55 percent) support the idea of eliminating the requirement for all Americans to have health insurance or else pay a fine as part of the Republican tax plan, however views vary party. In contrast, the majority of the public (68 percent), including majorities across parties, oppose eliminating the tax deduction for individuals who have high health care costs. The poll also takes an early look at the publics views of the potential consequence of Congress not ...
Tearful Kimmel appears with son after surgery
Kimmel was returning to his late-night show after taking a week off for the boys second heart surgery.. His voice cracking at times, Kimmel gave a monologue calling on the US Congress to restore a childrens health insurance programme that has recently lapsed.. He said it was disgusting that politicians had prioritised getting tax cuts for their billionaire and millionaire donors.. Kimmels son, Billy, had surgery soon after he was born in April and the eight-month-old had another operation last week.. The host wants US politicians to restore the Childrens Health Insurance Program, which has been unfunded since September because of a political stalemate.. Kimmel said the programme had covered nine million children and was in place for several decades.. However, he said it was now on the backburner while they (politicians) work out their new tax plans, which means parents of children with cancer, diabetes and heart problems are about to get letters saying their coverage could be cut off ...

Southwark Judgement | Community Care
The Southwark Judgement, made by the Law Lords in May 2009, is a piece of case law that obliges childrens services to provide accommodation and support to homeless 16- and 17-year-olds.. In the past, many childrens services deemed that young people in this age group did not necessarily need care from local authorities but help and support in accessing housing benefits.. The case. G was a 17-year-old who had fallen out with his mother and was made homeless. He was sleeping on the floors of friends. After seeking legal advice, he demanded that Southwark Councils childrens services department provide him with accommodation and support under section 20 of the Children Act 1989.. Although the council accepted that G was a child-in-need and was homeless, it did not accept that he required accommodation. Instead, it held that, because he was a resourceful teenager, he simply needed help with accommodation, such as assistance to find a flat of his own and to claim housing benefit.. G ...
Family & Juvenile Law : Legislative Updates
The Senate Family and Children Services Committee heard SB 364, concerning Department of Child Service Reporting, authored by Sen. Broden and Sen. Grooms. An amendment was presented to maintain the confidentiality of police records in a near fatality investigation and adopted by consent. The Department of Child Services testified regarding some concerns with the proposed amended definition and its expansion of covered cases. The current definition is consistent with the federal definition and carries specific reporting requirements for the state. If the definition conflicts with federal laws, then funding could be placed in jeopardy. The Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council and the ...
