IT PLEASES me that the Government has at last deemed it politically correct to recognise the existence of gifted children by setting up an advisory group on early identification and support (Friday, September 25). Whether or not this belief is true is uncertain. CONSIDER THE SITUATION AND SETTING It is important to examine the situations in which a childs behaviors are problematic. Gifted children typically do not exhibit problems in all situations. For example, they may be seen as ADHD-like by one classroom teacher, but not by another; or they may be seen as ADHD at school, but not by the scout leader or music teacher. Close examination of the troublesome situation generally reveals other factors which are prompting the problem behaviors.. It seems fairly clear that EoE is caused by food and environmental triggers although they still arent certain how much each plays a role for each person. It seems that environment does play a role as people seem to experience worse EoE symptoms in the spring and fall when outdoor allergens are at their worst. All of the EoE people I interact with in online forums have said that this year has been brutal for them which coincides with one of the worst allergen seasons in quite some time the US. It has been claimed that social behaviour changes after lesions of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (vmPFC). However, lesions in humans are rarely restricted to a well defined cortical area. Although vmPFC lesions usually include medial orbitofrontal cortex (mOFC), they typically also affect subgenual and/or perigenual anterior cingulate cortex. The purpose of the current study is to investigate the role of mOFC in social valuation and decision-making. We tested four macaque monkeys prior to and after focal lesions of mOFC. Comparison of the animals pre- and postoperative performance revealed that, unlike lesions of anterior cingulate gyrus (ACCg), lesions of mOFC did not induce alterations in social valuation. MOFC lesions did, however, induce mild impairments in a probabilistic two-choice decision task, which were not seen after ACCg lesions. One might think that being cheerful, worrying less and taking things easy would be the passports to a long and healthy life but new research from the University of California, Riverside suggests that this could be wrong. The researchers used information first gathered by the Stanford University Psychologist Louis Terman on more than 1,500 gifted children who were around 10 when they were first studied in 1921 and who were tracked throughout their lives. In contrast, much less research is available on cognitive and neural correlates of gifted/excellent mathematical knowledge in adults and children. In order to facilitate further inquiry into this area, here we review 38 available studies, which examine the cognitive and neural basis of gifted mathematics. Studies associated a large number of cognitive factors with gifted mathematics, with spatial processing and working memory being the most frequently identified contributors. However, the current literature suffers from low statistical power, which most probably contributes to variability across findings. Problem: I changed the pool water and the sand in the filter at the beginning of the swim season last year 2008. I changed them both out because our pool was starting to turn green on a regular basis even though the chemicals were balanced. I briefly used a pool service last summer (2008) that used chlorine gas and the pool almost immediately turned green and stayed that way until I took over when they had the chlorine level so high it didnt come within swim range for about a month yet the acid level was extremely low. This year the pool again turns green even though the chlorine level has remained quite high and the acid is where it should be. I have had my numbers verified by more than one professional pool store.
