There needs to be clarification on a development in regard to legislation referred to in the newspapers today, which I have not heard previously mentioned in these Houses that, apparently, the Government intends to introduce legislation to alter the legal environment for the placing for adoption of the children of married parents. We know the children of married parents can only be adopted in very restricted circumstances because of our laws and the interpretation of them. It is one of the issues that is at the heart of childrens rights, the proposal for a referendum to amend the Constitution, the so-called childrens rights referendum. One of the things that will have to be done to facilitate the introduction of the legislation, to which the Minister of State, Deputy Andrews, referred in the newspapers today, and which I would welcome, would be that the childrens rights referendum would have to be brought forward, put to the people and passed. That is important. Can we take this indication by ...
Janusz Korczak, whose original name was Henryk Goldszmit, is seen as the father of the very idea that children also have rights - human rights. His thinking had a profound impact on the drafting of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and continue to influence the child-friendly programmes of the Council of Europe.Korczak´s message was about respect for children, respect for their inherent value as human beings but also for their capacity and competence. Though continuously practicing as a medical doctor and assisting in orphanages, he was also a writer. His essay The Childs Right to Respect in which he analyses the role of adults and the place of children in society is published in this volume.Korczaks vision about childrens rights is still relevant. What can we learn from his ideas when tackling todays problems? Five childrens rights activists analysed current problems in the spirit of Korczak. This book conveys the deeper meaning and importance of the rights of children. Janusz

Childs Right Act (2003) is the law that guarantees the rights of all children in Nigeria. So far 24 out of 36 states of Nigeria have adopted the CRA as a state law. There are therefore twelve (12) states in Nigeria that are yet to adopt the CRA in their laws of the 36 states of the federation.. Children as defined by Childs Right Act (2003) is any person under the age of 18.. National Human Rights Commission as parts of its mandates to promote, protect and enforce the rights of all citizens as well as foreign nationals in Nigeria undertakes several procedures of promoting and protecting the rights of children under this age because they are vulnerable.. The Commission takes up the rights of children from foetus when appropriate responsibility of the unborn child is neglected. We admit and investigate matters around inhuman and degrading treatment of a mother upon whose ripple effect hamper the survival and development rights of the child.. At the National Human Rights Commission, we recognize ...

The timeline of childrens rights in the United Kingdom includes a variety of events that are both political and grassroots in nature. The UK government maintains a position that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is not legally enforceable and is hence aspirational only, although a 2003 ECHR ruling states that, The human rights of children and the standards to which all governments must aspire in realising these rights for all children are set out in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.[1] Eighteen years after ratification, the four Childrens Commissioners in the UK (including those for the three devolved administrations) have united in calling for adoption of the Convention into domestic legislation, making childrens rights recognised and legally binding.[2]. Opponents of childrens rights often raise the objection that rights must entail responsibilities.[3] The childrens rights movement asserts rather that children have rights which adults, states ...
In July and August of 2009, Child Rights International had the opportunity to collaborate with One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) on a project that provided 100 laptop computers to school in Okorase in the Eastern region for an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) project. This innovative project was also developed and implemented in collaboration with the National Program for the Elimination of Child Labour in the Cocoa Sector.. As part of the project, three student experts from the University of City University of New York, Hunter College, Monroe College, and New York University trained the students on how to use the computers. The objective of the project was to make information technology available to rural children in the cocoa growing areas, to assist them in acquiring critical ICT skills, and to influence the attitudes of parents and children in terms of the value and relevance of education.. The training aimed to empower and enable students to learn about ICT and to utilize those ...

Childrens rights on the global stage: 1990-99. The Declaration of the Rights of the Child had been adopted in 1959 by the UN General Assembly. After a period of limited progress in formally articulating child rights, the International Year of the Child, held in 1979 on the 20th anniversary of the Declaration, succeeded in rekindling interest. NGOs working on behalf of children argued that child rights should be enshrined in law, and helped establish an intergovernmental group to begin drafting a convention to replace the 1959 Declaration.. During the 1980s, UNICEF had been involved with analysis and policy responses for what were then called children in especially difficult circumstances - children living or working on the streets, those affected by armed conflict, suffering from exploitation or with disabilities. Recognizing the convergence among this work, the child survival and development revolution, and the movement for child rights, UNICEF threw its weight behind the work on a new ...

By turns a distiller, a lawyer, and an extremely successful business entrepreneur, Zanvyl Krieger made his name best known as an extraordinary philanthropist. His greatest single gift was a $50 million challenge grant, made in 1992, to the School of Arts and Sciences of the Johns Hopkins University. The gift is one of the largest ever directed exclusively to a U.S. school or college of arts and sciences, the division of a university that focuses on the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. To pay fitting tribute, Hopkins renamed its core institution, so that it is now the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences.. Krieger was a life-long Baltimorean with committed civic ties. He played an ownership role in both the Baltimore Orioles and the Baltimore Colts. His charitable concerns included the Krieger Childrens Eye Center at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute; the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; the Kennedy Krieger Institute, a world-renowned clinic for ...

CALGARY-The Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre is launching a month-long campaign aimed at promoting support for child abuse victims and the prevention of sexual and physical abuse.. The announcement came Monday as the centre marked its five-year anniversary and October as Child Abuse Prevention Month in conjunction with the provincial government.. (Its) a bittersweet moment, said the centres CEO Sara Austin. In our first five years, we served more than 7,500 children and youth. And we see, on average, 130 new cases of child abuse every single month.. She said the campaign uses a broad definition of child abuse that encompasses all forms - physical, sexual, emotional, verbal, and neglect.. But the centres mandate, she said, is to support the prevention of all forms of sexual abuse of children, as well as the most severe forms of physical abuse or neglect.. Thats why the day is bittersweet - the 7,500-plus children served by the centre represent victims of sexual abuse and the most ...

To support this process, UNICEF IRC is undertaking a study exploring the visibility of childrens rights in donor countries development assistance, both at donor headquarters and at the country programme level. This research reviews the action of donor agencies in six countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Sweden and the United Kingdom) and assists the European Union to assess and compare their approach. The donor level perspective is complemented by five case studies reflecting the perspective on countries which receive aid (Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Nicaragua and Vietnam). The research discusses various ways in which the visibility of child rights can be conceptualized, from which a seven-fold visibility framework is developed. The framework is then adopted to discuss - with a comparative approach - the experience of the different donor countries ...

There is a lot of talk right now around the rushed legislation proposed by Peter Mandelson, and being consulted on by BIS, that would allow households suspected of illegally downloading copyright material through peer-to-peer filesharing or other methods to have their internet access cut off.. The way this proposal suggests leapfrogging legal processes of proof before action is taken against suspected offenders was a theme coming up in more than one of the MSc research proposal shared in my induction at the Oxford Internet Institute this afternoon - but one dimension which deserves added attention is the impact of the proposed legislation on the rights of children young people.. Although the UK Government has signed up to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, we still lack a systematic review of the way legislation impacts Childrens Rights - so the key voice pointing out the fundamental problems in Mandelsons proposal is coming from ARCH - Action on the Rights of the Child.. ARCH ...

U.S. coach Jill Ellis has called up the defender for the upcoming camp ahead of friendly matches against Australia and Belgium on April 4 and 7, respectively.. Ellis is looking at Krieger - who last played in a match for the U.S. in April 2017 - as a potential option at right back. Krieger was the starting right back for the U.S. as the team won the 2015 World Cup. Kelley OHara, the incumbent starter in that position, will miss the upcoming matches due to ongoing issues with her ankle. She had surgery on her right ankle in October and returned in time for the start of the year.. JTA) - When Neil Krieger was a graduate student at Harvard University in the mid-1960s, he decided he had to do something about racism.. Not content to watch from the sidelines as others battled for civil rights, he joined the Boston branch of the Congress of Racial Equality and began visiting local businesses, imploring them to hire African-Americans.. They would go to a bank and see there were no black tellers, so they would meet with the head of the bank and tell him, You should find a black teller, said his daughter Hilary Krieger, an editor at NBC News. And they would find candidates who could do the job.. They werent trying to shame people or cause trouble, but to make a difference in the lives of the people, she added.. Krieger, who died on April 29 in Boston from complications of COVID-19 at 78, was born in Spring Valley, New York, in 1942 to parents who ran a series of restaurants. He spent his teen years living in the storied Hotel Bossert, also known as the Waldorf-Astoria of ...
Morris and Krieger (2013) have argued that male circumcision does not impact adversely on sexual sensation, satisfaction, and/or function. In the present paper, it is argued that such a view is untenable. By selectively citing Morris own non-peer-reviewed letters and opinion pieces purporting to show flaws in studies reporting evidence of negative effects of circumcision, and by failing adequately to account for replies to these letters by the authors of the original research (and others), Morris and Krieger give an incomplete and misleading account of the available literature. Consequently, Morris and Krieger reach an implausible conclusion that is inconsistent with what is known about the anatomy and functions of the penile foreskin, and the likely effects of its surgical removal.
The liability, it turns out, has been shifted to the federal government which requires children take these vaccines (and even prosecutes parents that dont). They anticipate a certain amount of damage which to them is acceptable ... and operates its lets-make-a-mockery-of-justice vaccine court. This puts the federal government in the position of denying any validity to legitimate claims that vaccines harm children, because to admit such a thing would cause a tidal wave of claims to come flooding into the vaccine court, resulting in potentially trillions of dollars in payouts to all the parents whose children have been harmed by vaccines ...
I have highlighted certain areas of the article: bold is what I disagree with, italics what I agree with, and underlining something I have a question about.. I completely agree with Dr Waterston about the need for the child to be the primary patient and not the parents. I also agree that information on confidentiality should be more readily available and easily accessible to children and young people (CYP); from my experiences I have found that this is not so and have often become confused about what the law says my rights are. From a political level I also agree that there should be a ban on smacking, and a close eye kept on health and travel aspects of life, as this greatly concerns CYP. I have found that many doctors or nurses dont know how to approach talking to YP-teenagers in particular-and I feel it should be an invaluable part of their training to look into things like this, as the author suggested.. However I did disagree on two points with the author. If a letter is sent out about ...

In the area of social protection in NPEI 2016-2020 is foreseen the social services reform towards decentralization of social services and social care deinstitutionalization and creating electronic records of families benefiting from economic aid and disability scheme. So far in the direction of decentralization of social care services through the possibility of introducing alternative service (family -house, day centers, community service, etc.) more attempts are made by the private sector that often does not stretch as needed and it is not coordinated by the state. Local government, except for the municipality of Tirana, had no financial means to set up and fund themselves the social services or social care. The new administrative reform has just begun and it is not known yet how many will support the new budget, and whether municipalities will be able to generate funds that can be used in the field of social services and in the community care ...

Background: Prolonged surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis (SAP) to prevent surgical site infection (SSI) is generally discouraged after completion of surgery. However, little is known about the pattern of peri-operative antibiotic use in resource-limited settings. We aimed to describe its use at a typical government hospital in Uganda. Methods: A study was originally conducted in a rural Ugandan regional referral and teaching hospital in 2014 and 2015 to improve hand hygiene practice and measure its impact on health-care-associated infections including SSI (WardGel study). This is a secondary analysis of the data from the WardGel study to assess the frequency of peri-operative antibiotic use among surgical patients. Results: Of 3,627 patients enrolled into the original study, 960 (26.5%) underwent surgery at the hospital and 907 patients (94.5%) received antibiotic agents during hospitalization. Of these, 880 patients (97.0%, of 907 patients) received antibiotic agents on the day of surgery. A ...

The results show that health anxiety is associated with poorer adjustment. Patients who are highly health anxious appear to adjust less well to living with a stoma. The protective impact stoma self-efficacy has on adjustment, as demonstrated in previous studies, was replicated. In addition, the current study shows that the positive relationship between self-efficacy and adjustment is negatively impacted by health anxiety. A further finding of this study is that emergency and planned surgery patients do not differ on psychological variables including health anxiety, distress, self-efficacy and adjustment ...

Welcome to my fundraising page for the Amazing Race Niagara! On Sunday, September 13, 2020, I will be participating in this event to raise funds for Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara. Support me in this event to increase child abuse prevention, awareness & response in Niagara.. Imagine the courage it takes for a child to disclose abuse experiences to adult authorities, when 80% of alleged perpetrators are known by children. Studies found that sexual abusers come from a wide circle of people (not only within the family) but also outside the family, such as friends, neighbours, and peers (Kingsley and Mark 2000; LaPrairie 1995).. Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre is a safe place to help, heal and end child abuse for Niagaras children & youth who have been physically abused, sexually abused, become the targets of internet luring, or were the unwilling witness of violence. Children speak about their abuse experience to specially trained teams from Niagara Regional Police Service & ...

Bulletin Board: A Post From the Community | On Tuesday, December 17, more than 128 children and family members arrived at Children¿s Advocacy Center of North and Northwest Cook County in Hoffman Estates to visit with Santa and enjoy gifts, activities and music. The party was made possible through donations of food, gifts and gift cards. ¿Usually the children visit the Center because of the trauma they¿ve experienced such as physical or sexual abuse. Our goal with the children¿s party is to give the kids and their families a chance to come back and enjoy the holiday with us,¿ says Bonnie Fries, Assistant Director of CAC. ¿The party ...
A child will be unable to draw or write if their fine motor skills are under devel-oped. Think of the fol-low-ing activ-i-ties as a work-out for these impor-tant mus-cles:. Coloring, draw-ing, play dough, string-ing beads, string-ing fruit loops, sort-ing but-tons, play-ing with Legos, and other small build-ing toys.. Teach your child to dress them-selves includ-ing tying shoes, snap-ping, zip-ping and but-ton-ing. A good method is to use back-ward chain-ing which means you do all the steps and teach your child to do the last and most sat-is-fy-ing step. Gradually extend it to the last 2 steps and then 3 until your child is inde-pen-dent.. ...
The very sad part is that their complaining just comes to show what kind of parents they are: the lousy type. Good parents are not threaten by that real big world outside their homes that is so full of different ideas. Good parents do care about what their kids are exposed to, of course, but they are powerful enough in their knowledge and conviction, -and most importantly in the eyes of their kids- to talk with them about what they may have seen or heard anywhere and discuss those things with their kids, as another way to teach them ...
