Cook Countys chief medical officer, Dr. Terry Mason, joins us to talk about the countys STD testing initiative on Chicago Tonight at 7:00 pm.. The county has some of the highest levels of STD infection in the country, with the highest levels of gonorrhea and the second highest levels of chlamydia. Combined, there were nearly 60,000 such infections in Cook County in 2010. A lot of STD data is unfortunately behind, Mason said.. Some of those high levels are due to the sheer size of Cook County, which is the second largest county in the country, behind Los Angeles.. Cook County has the highest level [of gonorrhea infections in 2008] in absolute numbers, but not the highest rates, Mason said. But our rate is still high, above L.A. County. Their rate was 91 infections per 100,000. Were 250 per 100,000 ...

Chicago, the birthplace of the modern skyscraper, will soon see its skyline redesigned by the two most ambitious construction projects the city has seen in 30 years. But neither the Chicago Spire, the 150-story tower expected to rise from a postage stamp-sized plot of land in Streeterville, nor the Trump International Hotel & Tower, the 92-story skyscraper taking shape on the Chicago River, will help Chicago regain the title of home to the worlds tallest building. In fact, the city is unlikely to lay claim to that ever again. Skyscrapers in Asia and the Middle East now vie for top billing, with none holding the top slot for more than a few years. In first place is the Burj Dubai, a residential and office tower under construction in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates booming port city. Its already 150 stories and has yet to reach its final height, a closely guarded secret. Future contenders are likely to emerge from cities in other rapidly developing countries, such as India and South Africa, which

Keri Hornbuckle, professor, and Dingfei Hu, postdoctoral fellow, in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, conducted the study as a follow-up to their 2008 research that found PCB11 in 91 percent of 184 Chicago air samples. That study noted that although other PCBs had previously been found in Chicago air, PCB11 had no known Chicago source and had never been intentionally manufactured there.. The new study tested PCB concentrations in 33 commercial paint pigments purchased from three paint stores. Hornbuckle and Hu tested for the presence of all PCBs and found PCB11 to be the most frequent PCB in pigments used in indoor and outdoor paints, primarily in the colors green, blue, red and yellow. The study concluded that PCBs are probably present in commercial paints due to their inadvertent production during the manufacture of pigments.. The study noted that the pigments also have wide application in inks, textiles, paper, cosmetics, leather, plastics, food and other materials. The ...

It remains unclear if LeGrier gave any indication of his sons mental health history during his 911 call. Chicago ...

Marcs images for the project are made in the tradition of street photography, capturing ordinary moments-such as adults strolling along busy avenues and children playing in their neighborhoods.
