The present invention is for crosslinked membranes and in particular for crosslinked poly(ethylene oxide)-cellulose acetate-silsesquioxane (PEO-CA-Si) organic-inorganic hybrid membranes and their use in gas separation. These crosslinked PEO-CA-Si membranes were prepared by in-situ sol-gel co-condensation of crosslinkable PEO-organotrialkoxysilane and CA-organotrialkoxysilane polymers in the presence of acetic acid catalyst during the formation of membranes. The crosslinkable PEO- and CA-organotrialkoxysilane polymers were synthesized via the reaction between the hydroxyl groups on PEO (or on CA) and the isocyanate on organotrialkoxysilane to form urethane linkages under mild conditions. The crosslinked PEO-CA-Si membranes exhibited both increased selectivity of CO 2 /N 2 and CO 2 permeability as compared to a CA membrane, suggesting that these membranes are very promising for gas separations such as CO 2 /N 2 separation.

Solution processed organic-inorganic bulk hybrid heterostructures are nowadays considered as the most promising elements to perform efficient optoelectronic functions. In this regard, In2O3 based hybrid heterostructures were fabricated using polypyrrole and their role as efficient interfacial layers was studied using polypyrrole/ZnO nanowires. The In2O3 nanostructures were synthesized through a facile wet chemical approach at an average scale of less than 10 nm in cubic phase. The presence of O and In related defects was studied through emission spectra; these were also found to exhibit their predominance in Raman measurements. The n-type characteristics and donor density value of around 10(20) cm(-3) were evaluated for the In2O3 specimens via Mott-Schottky plots. The role of In2O3 nanostructures as active/interfacial layers was then studied using the current-voltage characteristics obtained across the hybrid heterostructures made of polypyrrole/In2O3, polypyrrole/ZnO and polypyrrole/In2O3/ZnO. Alzheimers disease (AD) is a genetically complex disorder, and several genes related to cholesterol metabolism have been reported to contribute to AD risk. To identify further AD susceptibility genes, we have screened genes that map to chromosomal regions with high logarithm of the odds scores for AD in full genome scans and are related to cholesterol metabolism. In a European screening sample of 115 sporadic AD patients and 191 healthy control subjects, we analyzed single nucleotide polymorphisms in 28 cholesterol-related genes for association with AD. The genes HMGCS2, FDPS, RAFTLIN, ACAD8, NPC2, and ABCG1 were associated with AD at a significance level of P ≤ 0.05 in this sample. Replication trials in five independent European samples detected associations of variants within HMGCS2, FDPS, NPC2, or ABCG1 with AD in some samples (P = 0.05 to P = 0.005). Efficient and selective oxidation of alcohols with NaIO4 catalyzed by an organic-inorganic hybrid material in which manganese(III)5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)porphyrin chloride, MnIII(TAPP)Cl, is covalently linked to a Lindqvist structure of polyoxometalate, Mo6O192-, at room temperature is reported. The effect of various parameters such as catalyst amount, solvent and oxidant were studied. The catalyst, MnP-POM, showed high activity not only in the oxidation of benzylic and linear alcohols but also in the oxidation of secondary alcohols and their corresponding ketones were obtained in good yields. A good selectivity observed in the case of cinnamyl alcohol and the only alcoholic group is oxidized and no epoxide was obtained. The MnP-POM catalyst is stable under the reaction conditions and While, the homogeneous MnIII(TAPP)Cl cannot recover even one time, the hybrid catalyst can be filtered and reused several times without significant loss of its initial activity. Organic-inorganic hybrid sol-gel materials have attracted increasing attention in recent years as low-cost, rugged materials for integrated optical devices such as optical couplers, splitters, and electro-optic modulators. These materials can be easily processed by spin-coating, wet-etching photolithography, and low-temperature baking. Precise control of waveguide core-cladding refractive indices produces well-confined low-loss propagation and good matching of the absolute refractive index to that of fused silica results in low optical coupling loss to optical fiber. Diatoms are a significant group of algae displaying a sizeable morphological diversity, whose underlying structure arises from nanopatterned silica. Extensive experimental evidence suggests that a delicate interplay between various organic components and polysilicic acid plays a crucial role in biosilica mineralization. Thus, gaining insight into the properties of this organic-inorganic interface is of great interest in understanding the mechanisms controlling biosilica formation over different length scales. In this work, we use all-atom Molecular Dynamics simulations to investigate the aggregation behavior of polysilicic acid and silica nanoparticles in solution in the presence of protonated long-chain polyamines with a focus on the nature of the driving forces mediating the organic-inorganic aggregation process. Based on current evidence, the term of endothelium-derived hyperpolarising factor should represent a mechanism rather than a specific factor. The mechanism(s) of endothelium-dependent hyperpolarization (i.e., EDHF-mediated relaxation) seems to be heterogeneous depending on several factors (e.g., size and vascular bed), surrounding environment (oxidative stress, hypercholesterolemia) and demand (compensatory). Different endothelial mediators or pathways involved in EDHF-mediated relaxation may also work simultaneously and/or substitute each other. It implies a reasonable physiological sense, although to some extent and when EDHF acts as backup mechanism for endothelium-dependent relaxation in the present of compromised NO contribution. In the past, people used herbs as a form of treatment for illness. Nowadays, the mainstream belief is that they are not as effective and not worth taking. For each health issue people use pharmaceutical drugs. This is because effectiveness of each herb and their use has not been studied deeply to determine how effective it can be. On the other hand, pharmaceutical drugs are attempted to mimic a compound that occurs naturally in nature (herbs). They can also bring the risk of side effects.. According to stats released by the American Association of Poison Control Centers, no deaths have been reported due to the use and consumption of herbs. However, pharmaceutical drugs and physician prescribed medications kill approximately one million Americans each year. A new simple, economical UV method have been developed for the determination of Linagliptin and Metformin Hydrochloride in bulk and pharmaceutical dosage form. The maximum absorption of Linagliptin was found to be at 295nm and Metformin hydrochloride at 234nm.Methanol and Water in the ratio 40:60 was used as a diluent. The calibration curve was linear over the concentration range of and 3 to 11 µg/ml for Linagliptin and Metformin hydrochloride respectively. The linear correlation was found (r2) in the range of 0.9987 and 0.9947 for linaglitin and metformin hydrochloride in API and MKTD respectively. The proposed method was validated as per ICH guidelines parameters like linearity ,precision ,accuracy ,robustness ,ruggedness. The accuracy of these methods were evaluated by recovery studies and good recovery result were obtained 97.88-102.11% and 95.77-100.78%. The method was successfully applied for determination of Linagliptin and Metformin hydrochloride in their combined tablet dosage form.
