This paper presents the extraction of cations from a soil sample, type ranker on serpentinite, in deionized water, by use of three different extraction techniques. The first extraction technique included the use of a rotary mixer, the second technique involved the use of a microwave digestion system with different extraction temperatures, and the third technique employed an ultrasonic bath with different extraction times. Ion chromatography was used for determining the concentration of Li, Na, K, Ca, Mg and ammonium ions in soil extracts with subsequent determination of concentrations for all cations, except for ammonium ion extraction, conducted by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry. The effects of operating conditions (extraction time, microwave power and ratio of water to raw material) on the extraction yield of polysaccharides were studied. We have therefore developed and evaluated completeness and consistency of an automatic versus a semi-automatic extraction procedure applied on prescribing and administration of the TNF inhibitor infliximab using a hospital EHR system in Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden. Using two different extraction methods (automatic and semi-automatic), all administered infusions of infliximab between 2007 and 2010 were extracted from a database linked to the EHR system. Extracted data included encrypted personal identity number (PIN), date of birth, sex, time of prescription/administration, healthcare units, prescribed/administered dose and time of admission/discharge. A new sensitive, selective, fast and accurate technique for online sample preparation was developed. Microextraction in a packed syringe (MEPS) is a new miniaturised, solid-phase extraction (SPE) technique that can be connected online to GC or LC without any modifications. In MEPS approximately 1 mg of the solid packing material is inserted into a syringe (100-250 ml) as a plug. Sample preparation takes place on the packed bed. The bed can be coated to provide selective and suitable sampling conditions. The new method is very promising. The presence of asphaltenes in heavy oil is related to its high viscosity which is a major constraint in heavy oil processing and transportation. Moreover, problems associated with the deposition of asphaltenes at different stages of the heavy oil refining steps increase the cost of heavy oil processing. In this research project, we have achieved viscosity reduction of heavy oil by treating it through the novel JetShear destructuring process. Subsequently we have studied the adsorption of the asphaltenes over specific solid adsorbents. Characterization of the raw and treated heavy oil has been conducted. We have experimentally shown that the JetShear destructuring process reduces diluent requirements (up to 50%), decreases the initial viscosity of heavy oil and lowers the oil density (increasing its API degree) thus providing a solution for pipeline transportation.The asphaltenes content of the treated product oil was also found to decrease slightly during the JetShear destructuring as per SARA ...
In this paper, a new method of annular platform-supported headspace liquid-phase microextraction (LPME) was designed using ionic liquid as an extraction solvent, wherein extraction stability and efficiency were improved by adding an annular platform inside the extraction bottle. The ionic liquid 1-silicyl-3-benzylimidazolehexafluorophosphate was first synthesized and proved to be an excellent extraction solvent. Coupled with liquid chromatography, the proposed method was employed to analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in water and optimized in aspects of extraction temperature, extraction solvent volume, extraction time, pH, stirring rate, and salt effect of solution. A new method based on accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) combined with response surface methodology (RSM) modeling and optimization has been developed for the extraction of four lignans in Fructus Schisandrae (the fruits of Schisandra chinensis Baill). The RSM method, based on a three level and three variable Box-Behnken design (BBD), was employed to obtain the optimal combination of extraction condition. In brief, the lignans schizandrin, schisandrol B, deoxyschizandrin and schisandrin B were optimally extracted with 87% ethanol as extraction solvent, extraction temperature of 160 °C, static extraction time of 10 min, extraction pressure of 1,500 psi, flush volume of 60% and one extraction cycle. The 3D response surface plot and the contour plot derived from the mathematical models were applied to determine the optimal conditions. Under the above conditions, the experimental value of four lignans was 14.72 mg/g, which is in close agreement with the value predicted by the model.
This paper describes a laboratory study of potential post-cold production strategies for heavy oil reservoirs. The tests were conducted on two primarily depleted long core systems (glassbeads core and sandpack core). The glassbeads core is 18.2 m in length with higher permeability (11.8 Darcy) and the sandpack core is 18.5 m long with lower permeability (1.9 Darcy). Both core systems were recharged by CH4 injection followed by a depletion step similar to the cold production experiment. Both cores were then exposed to a single cycle of CO2 injection, soaking and production. This work aims at further understanding the heavy oil solution gas drive mechanism. Furthermore, the study aims at assessing methane and carbon dioxide recharging as a potential recovery method for heavy oil reservoirs, and at establishing a base line for comparison against each other. A fast and simple modified QuEChERS extraction method was developed for determination of Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) in 137 traditional (Sangak), semi-industrial (Sangak) and industrial bread samples using spiked calibration curves by GC/MS. Sample preparation includes extraction of BaP into acetone followed by cleanup with dispersive solid phase extraction. The limit of detection and limit of quantification were 0.3 ng/g and 0.5 ng/g, respectively. The values for recoveries and RSD were calculated as 110.5-119.85% and ,11.6% respectively. Average concentration of BaP in Sangak bread samples of Shiraz and Tehran was 0.59 and 0.60 ng/g, respectively. 35.5% of samples of breads collected in Tehran were contaminated with BaP at the amount higher than maximum levels regulated in processed cereal-based foods and baby foods by European Commission (1 ng/g). By contrasting the effect of varying surface properties (leading to expanding or pinned image charge), laser profiles (Gaussian, uniform, and elliptical), and aspect ratios (pancake- and cigar-like) under different extraction field strengths and numbers of generated electrons, we quantify the effect of these experimental parameters on macroscopic pulse properties such as emittance, brightness (4D and 6D), coherence length, and energy spread.
