Brain asymmetries, particularly asymmetries within regions associated with language, have been suggested as a key difference between humans and our nearest ancestors. These regions include the planum temporale (PT) - the bank of tissue that lies posterior to Heschls gyrus and encompasses Wernickes …

The human gut microbiota interacts closely with human diet and physiology. To better understand the mechanisms behind this relationship, gut microbiome research relies on complementing human studies with manipulations of animal models, including non-human primates. However, due to unique aspects of human diet and physiology, it is likely that host-gut microbe interactions operate differently in humans and non-human primates. Here, we show that the human microbiome reacts differently to a high-protein, high-fat Western diet than that of a model primate, the African green monkey, or vervet (Chlorocebus aethiops sabaeus). Specifically, humans exhibit increased relative abundance of Firmicutes and reduced relative abundance of Prevotella on a Western diet while vervets show the opposite pattern. Predictive metagenomics demonstrate an increased relative abundance of genes associated with carbohydrate metabolism in the microbiome of only humans consuming a Western diet. These results suggest that the human

As this patent readily explains, ingredients used in the vaccine are derived from the kidneys of African Green Monkeys who are first infected with the virus, then allowed to fester the disease, and then are killed so that their diseased organs can be used make vaccine ingredients. This is done in a cruel, inhumane flesh factory environment where the monkeys are subjected to a process that includes incubating said inoculated cell line to permit proliferation of said virus. Then: harvesting the virus resulting from step (c); and... (ii) preparing a vaccine from the harvested virus ...

The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, has devastated health infrastructure around the world. Both ACE2 (an entry receptor) and TMPRSS2 (used by the virus for spike protein priming) are key proteins to SARS-CoV-2 cell entry, enabling progression to COVID-19 in humans. Comparative genomic research into critical ACE2 binding sites, associated with the spike receptor binding domain, has suggested that African and Asian primates may also be susceptible to disease from SARS-CoV-2 infection. Savanna monkeys (Chlorocebus spp.) are a widespread non-human primate with well-established potential as a bi-directional zoonotic/anthroponotic agent due to high levels of human interaction throughout their range in sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean. To characterize potential functional variation in savanna monkey ACE2 and TMPRSS2, we inspected recently published genomic data from 245 savanna monkeys, including 163 wild monkeys from Africa and the Caribbean and 82 captive monkeys from the ...

The grey-cheeked mangabey (Lophocebus albigena) is an Old World monkey that can be found in the forests of Central Africa. Its range stretches from Cameroon to Gabon. This monkey prefers habitats in primary forests or swamps within forests, but it has also been found in secondary forests. It was thought that these monkeys only lived in the higher canopy, but groups have been found searching for food on the forest floor. The diet of the grey-cheeked mangabey consists of shoots, flowers, and insects, but it mainly eats fruits such as figs. It will eat seasonal fruit as well.. The grey-cheeked mangabey will live in groups of up to thirty individuals, and these groups may contain several males. However, there is no alpha male and young males will leave to join other groups when they are ready. Female mangabey will reside in the group in which they are born. Groups have been known to split if one becomes too large. Each mangabey troop prefers to avoid other troops, so hostilities do not often ...

The higher throughput rates and lower costs of Next Gen sequencing hold great promise for revolutionizing genomics research and molecular diagnostics. In a single instrument run, an Expression Sequence Tag (EST) experiment can yield millions of sequences and detect rare transcripts that cannot be found any other way [1-3]. In cancer research, high sampling rates will allow for the detection of rare sequence variants in populations of tumor cells that could be prognostic indicators or provide insights for new therapeutics [1, 4, 5]. In viral assays, it will be possible to determine the sequence of individual viral genomes and detect drug resistant strains as they appear [6, 7]. Next Gen sequencing has considerable appeal because the large numbers of sequences that can be obtained make statistical calculations more valid ...

If direct exposure to primate blood (by hunting or other means) is the principal mechanism of SIV transmission to humans, zoonotic transfers of lentiviruses must have occurred repeatedly over the ages. In this context, a distinction must be made between the initial transmission of a virus between members of two species and the many additional factors required for subsequent epidemic spread. To account for the appearance of AIDS as an epidemic in the 20th century, and not before, a combination of various contributing factors has been proposed: social disruption, enslavement, urbanization, prostitution, and other sociobehavioral changes not yet fully understood (39). In addition, the use of nonsterilized needles for parenteral injections and vaccinations could have resulted in rapid serial passage of viruses in humans, thereby facilitating viral adaptation to the new host (39).. It is notable that although SIVcpz(P.t.t.) and SIVsm strains have each been transmitted on multiple occasions, their ...
