Horrific footage has emerged of a cannibal eating the leg of a Muslim slaughtered by a rampaging Christian mob in the Central African Republic.. The victim was hauled from a bus, battered and then stabbed before being set on fire in the capital city Bangui, according to the BBC.. In the aftermath of the incident, one of his attackers Ouandja Magloire-who also calls himself Mad Dog-grabbed hold of his leg and then began to devour it.. Magloire told a BBC reporter that his action was revenge for the murders of his pregnant wife, his sister-in-law and her baby.. He claimed that Muslims were responsible and he was angry with them.. They broke down the door and cut my baby in half. I promised I would get my revenge, he said.. Mad Dog spotted his victim on a minibus and followed him after deciding he looked Muslim.. In Central African Republic (CAR) an estimated 2.9 million out of a population of 4.6 million currently require humanitarian support. Results of the 2018 SMART survey show a global acute malnutrition (GAM) prevalence of 7.5% and severe acute malnutrition (SAM) prevalence of 2.7% for Haute Kotto region. Aggravating factors include insecurity, food insecurity, high numbers of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in camps and host communities, and poor infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices. In sites with a high number of IDPs (Alindao, Bambari, Bria, Kaga Bandoro, Batangafo), most households have limited access to land to engage in agricultural activities and are dependent on humanitarian food assistance and food-market purchases. Food and nutrition support are available but patchy due to insecurity and transportation difficulties to the affected areas, and humanitarian food assistance remains inconsistent and underfunded.1 As a result, food-consumption deficits and poor nutrition among ...

Cheetahs have declined particularly markedly in western, central and northern Africa (IUCN SSC 2012, Durant et al. 2014). The subspecies found in northwest Africa, A. j. hecki, is listed as Critically Endangered; see subspecies account for detailed information. Cheetah now occur in 10% of their historical range (1,053,746 km2), and possibly occur in another 920,520 km2. Much of this range is within the Sahara, where Cheetah occur at very low densities, estimated as 2.3 individuals per 10,000 km2 (Belbachir et al. 2015). There are five known Cheetah subpopulations in this region (IUCN SSC 2012): south-central Algeria, stretching through to north-eastern Mali, and possibly into western Libya (Belbachir et al. 2015); two connected subpopulations around the Termit massif in Niger; the WAP complex of protected areas in northern Benin, south-eastern Burkina Faso and south-western Niger; and south-eastern Chad and north-eastern Central African Republic (CAR). By January 1979, French support for Bokassa had eroded after riots in Bangui led to a massacre of civilians.[2] Between 17 and 19 April, a number of high school students were arrested after they had protested against wearing the expensive, government-required school uniforms; an estimated 100 were killed.[3][4] Emperor Bokassa personally participated in the massacre, where he was even reported beating some of the children to death with his own cane. The massive press coverage which followed the deaths of the students opened the way for a successful coup which saw French troops in Operation Barracuda restore former president David Dacko to power while Bokassa was away in Libya meeting with Gaddafi on 20 September 1979. Bokassas overthrow by the French government was called Frances last colonial expedition by veteran French diplomat Jacques Foccart. François Mitterrand refused to have France intervene in this manner again.[5] Operation Barracuda began the night of 20 September and ended early ...

Unsustainable hunting outside protected areas is threatening tropical biodiversity worldwide and requires conservationists to engage increasingly in antipoaching activities. Following the example of ecocertified logging companies, we argue that other extractive industries managing large concessions should engage in antipoaching activities as part of their environmental management plans. Onshore hydrocarbon concessions should also adopt antipoaching protocols as a standard because they represent a biodiversity threat comparable to logging. We examined the spatiotemporal patterns of small- and large-mammal poaching in an onshore oil concession in Gabon, Central Africa, with a Bayesian occupancy model based on signs of poaching collected from 2010 to 2015 on antipoaching patrols. Patrol locations were initially determined based on local intelligence and past patrol successes (adaptive management) and subsequently with a systematic sampling of the concession. We generated maps of poaching ...

A commonly held belief is that African Pygmies are the direct descendants of Late Stone Age hunter-gatherer peoples of the central African rainforest, who were partially absorbed or displaced by later immigration of agricultural peoples, and adopted their Central Sudanic, Ubangian, and Bantu languages. This view has no archaeological support, and ambiguous support from genetics and linguistics.[dubious - discuss][15][16][17]. Some 30% of Aka language is not Bantu, and a similar percentage of Baka language is not Ubangian.
