The resin was found to be selective for the sorption of chromium(III) in the pH range 0.5-3.5 from a model solution containing 500 ppm Cr(III). Beyond pH 3.5 extraction of chromium(III) drastically decreased from 92% to 76%. Sorption of chromium(III) on Indion 790 followed the Freundlich isotherm with a high Freundlich constant value (Kf = 8.57) confirming strong chemical interaction of the metal ion with the resin. The reaction rate, capacity, and effective pH range of the three materials are reported. The capacity and conditional distribution coefficient in neutral, uranyl-contaminated synthetic groundwater containing carbonate are also reported. The suitability of each material for treating uranium-contaminated groundwater using a permeable reactive barrier (PRB) approach is then discussed. All three materials react rapidly in the pH range 5-7, reaching equilibrium in less than 4 h at ~23◦C. Norfloxacin is a common fluoroquinolones antibacterial drug having the bitter taste which hindered its oral administration. Drug resin complex mask the bitter taste of the drug and hence an attempt has been made in the present study to prepare bitterless Norfloxacin suspension using Ion exchange resins. Norfloxacin was treated with the weak cation exchange resins which form the drug resin complex called resinate. The loading process was optimized for the pH of loading solution and the drug resin ratio. The resinates were evaluated for bulk density, angle of repose, taste masking, and in vitro drug release. Taste evaluation of the drug resinates showed complete masking of the bitterness of the drug. In vitro drug release studies revealed that more than 90% of the drug was released within 20 min from the drug resinates. Sweet palatable aqueous suspension of norfloxacin was formulated successfully with drug-resin complex and it was found to be stable.

Natural tannins have a high affinity to absorb metal ions, proteins and some other biomolecules. In this study, tannins extracted from Terminalia arjuna (Kumbuk) were used to synthesise renewable tannin-phenol-formaldehyde resin systems and a porous modified resin system. A series of resin systems was synthesised by varying the incorporated phenol content. The ion exchange capacities of the resins produced were studied and the resin with the highest ion exchange capacity was selected. It was sulfonated to increase the properties further. A monovalent cation, Na+ was used to estimate the adsorption properties of both sulfonated and unsulfonated resin systems. Solubility and swelling properties of the resins were measured to check their applicability as an ion exchanger in aqueous media at different pH values. This method was used to purify the main anthocyanin (cyanidin-3-glucoside; Cy-3-glc) from the anthocyanic methanolic extract of blue corn. The best sorption result was using Fe(III) in its ion form.
