ALCTS Technical Services Costs Committee. "Guide to Cost Analysis of Acquisitions and Cataloging in Libraries." ALCTS Newsletter 2:5 (1991) pp. 49-52. The purpose of the Guide is to aid the user in arriving at a per unit cost for any acquisitions or cataloging function. Using pertinent budget and production statistics, plus the Guide to Cost Analysis of Acquisitions and Cataloging in Libraries table included in the article, the technical processing manager may arrive at a figure. Step-by-step instructions for using the Guide are included, as well as an extensive list of sample variables to be measured in technical services cost studies. Berry, Louise. "The Library Shopper." The Bottom Line 3:4 (1989) pp. 31. In a small sidebar, the author reports per-book costs for cataloging in her library. She reports that: (1) a library technical assistant cataloging "childrens books, fiction, and easy nonfiction" costs $1.76 per book; and (2) a department head doing "original and problem cataloging" costs ...
Description: Cataloging and providing bibliographic control has recently been the center of several important discussions. Many of these discussions seem to focus on the practical aspects of costs, staffing and training of new staff. They also address the broader question of the need to follow cataloging standards. Libraries are raising the question of what services they should provide to users and what role libraries can play in providing bibliographic access without diminishing the value of the catalog. This presentation will contribute to this discussion by revisiting the question of the cataloging standards, and offering alternative approaches and ideas to cataloging. It will discuss innovative staffing solutions that can reduce the cost of cataloging and help overcome the problem of staffing and staff training ...

The two women I conferred with were not librarians, but had worked many years in the serials cataloging department. Together we looked into an in-house program of the classification and cataloging tables--this doesnt show to the public. After trying several possibilities we discovered at AP2 was (or still is) the class number not only for literary journals, but for foreign journals. Although epithelial ovarian cancers (EOCs) are initially treated with platinum-based chemotherapy, EOCs vary in platinum responsiveness. Cataloging antineoplastic agents according to their effectiveness against platinum-resistant and platinum-sensitive EOC cell lines is valuable for development of therapeutic strategies to avoid platinum inefficacy and to exploit platinum sensitivity. TOV-21G devoid of FANCF expression, OV-90 and SKOV-3 were employed as examples of platinum-sensitive, platinum-intermediate and platinum-resistant cell lines, respectively. Antineoplastic agents examined included mitomycin C, doxorubicin, etoposide, gemcitabine, chlorambucil, paclitaxel, triapine and X-rays. Their effectiveness against cell lines was analyzed by clonogenic assays. Cytotoxic profiles of mitomycin C and carboplatin were similar, with mitomycin C exhibiting greater potency and selectivity against TOV-21G than carboplatin. Cytotoxic profiles of doxorubicin, etoposide and X-rays overlapped with that of ...
A data set catalog structure eliminates the requirement for base catalog/data volume synchronization in a multi-processing environment while enabling the operating efficiency directly addressing the data volumes. The catalog is distributed between a keyed sequential base catalog and, on each data volume, an entry sequential volume data set. Catalog information which must be synchronized with application data sets is stored in volume records in the volume data set. A method for opening a users data set having a key comprises the steps of obtaining from the base catalog a direct pointer associated with the key to the volume record for the user data set; accessing the volume record (relative byte address) addressed by the pointer; comparing the key of the user data set with the key of the accessed volume record; if the keys do not compare, key searching the volume data set to locate the volume record containing correct key and rewriting the direct pointer in the base catalog to address the correct volume

Another close relative of the aphids, Daktulosphaira vitifoliae, has also caused extensive damage as a destructive pest. The grape phylloxeran (D. vitifoliae), originally native to eastern North America, feeds on the roots of Vitis vinifera grapes, stunting the growth of or killing its vines. In the late 19th century, after the species was accidentally introduced to Europe by botanists collecting American vine specimens, a phylloxera epidemic destroyed most of the wine grape vineyards on the continent. The species, a member of the Phylloxeridae family, remains a pest to worldwide commercial vineyards to this day ...

The miniaturization of the current technology of storage media is hindered by fundamental limits of quantum mechanics. A new approach consists in using so-called spin-crossover molecules as the smallest possible storage unit. Similar to normal hard drives, these special molecules can save information via their magnetic state. A research team from Kiel University has now managed to successfully place a new class of spin-crossover molecules onto a surface and to improve the molecules storage capacity. The storage density of conventional hard drives could therefore theoretically be increased by more than one hundred fold. The study has been published in the scientific journal Nano Letters. ...

The most important thing for libraries to focus on in order to maintain relevancy in the future is to maintain focus on how our core mission of connecting users to resources is unchanging amidst any technological or political changes. Librarians and library management need to address the ways in which librarians continue to accomplish the core goals of libraries in both traditional and new ways. As a profession we tend to get hung up on specific tasks or processes which become reified as "what librarians do," when the tasks should be continually put in the context of our larger mission. This is true both of more technical aspects such as cataloging and metadata services which remain vital to creating access to resources, and to public facing services such as developing information literacy in all library uses that addresses the varied ways in which library users access and use information. Cataloging is challenging in crowded fields because sources are extremely covariant with their neighbors and blending makes even the number of sources ambiguous. We present the first optical probabilistic stellar catalogue, cataloguing a crowded (~0.1 sources per pixel) SDSS r band image from M2. We show that our probabilistic catalogue goes more than a magnitude deeper than the DAOPHOT while having a lower false discovery rate brighter than 20th magnitude. We detail our efforts to speed up the method and extend it to galaxies, making probabilistic cataloguing applicable to the data that will be collected in the LSST era.. ...
The IPRC maintains a library of over 6,000 self-published and independently produced materials. Items are available to the public for circulation and for reference use. The library contains materials that are not otherwise represented in public libraries and that may be lost forever without their efforts. Located on the shelves are comics, chapbooks, novels, catalogs, zines, artists books, and more. A comprehensive reference section includes artists books, guides, criticism, history and how-to information available to examine and use in the library. Additionally, all materials produced in whole or part at the IPRC are archived as part of this collection. The collection is easy to browse as it is labeled and categorized by subject and alphabetized by title. Extensive effort has gone into cataloging the collection, enabling library users to search by title, author, publisher, date, subject and contents. Checking out materials is easy. Simply stop by the center and fill out a registration form to ...

In subfield u, copy and paste the URL as it appears on the screen. If the URL changes from session to session, copy the link location by moving the cursor above the link text, right-clicking on the mouse, and selecting copy link location. If the publisher provides a URL for bookmarking or linking, use that. After saving the record, switch to the OPAC and test the link, primarily to verify that the URL was transcribed accurately, since you should have checked the link before beginning to catalog. However, if the link does not work, or if it does not take you directly to the resource to be described in the ...

I have given keynote addresses, online presentations, poster sessions, and class instruction at the state and national level. My professional and scholarly interests include metadata display and manipulation issues related to discovery interfaces and migrating records between systems. I am also a strong believer in positive reinforcement for new librarians from within the profession, whether it is from a formal mentoring program or an informal contact. I welcome discussions about crossing divides between technical services and public services, as I have worked in cataloging, special collections, and reference/instruction (and enjoyed them all). There is much to be learned and contributed from all departments for an efficient and effective library experience. You can find me on Twitter @msthomas and on LinkedIn ...

In 1994 I took her out of Systems to take the reins for re-engineering Technical Services. Under her leadership the processes and services she put in place became benchmarks that also won admiration from peer institutions.. Other notable accomplishments during her tenure include managing the Tech Services elements in the Hoover integration project, which included re-configuring space and moving/integrating 500K volumes. She assumed responsibility for the Access Services Department, which she embraced enthusiastically, providing exemplary leadership to this day. Cath devised the policies for staffing, protocols, and service models of our offsite storage facility (Stanford Auxiliary Library 3 or SAL3) that resulted in smooth integration of campus needs, facility ...

From the informative transformit.uoregon.edu website:. A message from Jessie Minton, Vice Provost for Information Services and Chief Information Officer:. I am excited to announce an important change in the way the university will proceed with Transform IT. We will first inventory IT services offered across the university, and then we will restructure IT services one by one, guided in part by the recently completed IT Charter.. Previously, we had planned to focus on reworking employees reporting lines as a first step in implementation, but as the Blustain report notes, we have IT staff who fill many roles and run multiple services. After careful consideration of the options, I believe that by focusing first on cataloging and analyzing all IT services offered on campus, we can better manage service transitions and merge duplicative services where possible.. This change in approach comes after consulting with Dean of Libraries Adriene Lim, the Office of the Provost, and many of the universitys ...
I wish that I could say that Franklin Furnaces evolution from an avant-garde presenter to a virtual institution was a conscious, planned and steady process, but it was not. Moments of clarity appeared through the fog, and were still in a groping phase, checking with various parts of our community for feedback and adjusting our path accordingly.. A Fast History of Franklin Furnace. It all started in 1976, when the fog cleared and I saw that major institutions were not accommodating works of art being published by artists, and decided to gather, exhibit, and sell, preserve and proselytize on behalf of the form that came to be known as "artists books." I opened Franklin Furnace Archive, Inc. in my living loft (which happened to be a storefront) on April 3rd, 1976. Soon after, Printed Matter, Inc. came into being to publish and distribute artists books; we reapportioned the pie, Franklin Furnace taking the not-for-profit activities of collecting, cataloging, preserving, exhibiting and related ...

We all want to feed our animals well. Yet within zoos and aquariums different stakeholders concentrate on different aspects of feeding; some may be mostly concerned with the nutrient content, others with the way food is presented. The physical and behavioral health of animals may be a principal focus and sustainability, efficiency and costs are becoming increasingly significant drivers. Obviously all of these aspects require consideration to achieve the initial premise of wanting to feed our animals well. Sharing knowledge about best feeding practices can improve global management of living collections, with anecdotal descriptions replaced by meticulous observation, documentation and analysis. Recording and cataloging feeding practices and the outcome of adjustments, along with the means for systematic retrieval of said records at some later point in time, would represent a significant advance in the evaluation and dissemination of effective feeding practices. But how can we achieve this ...

I too spent significant time on this GUID problem back in my , Disaster Response days. I eventually settled on this method , of creating GUIDs in Erlang as Good Enough(tm): , , new_guid() -, , {node(), erlang:now()}. I agree this is good enough. I understand very well the appeal Joe feels for having IDs that hint at the location, and I would be glad to see it work. Trying to express better my thoughts, I think there is a need for both weird Ids (internally, machine only) and readable ones. IMHO the latter are more like a naming system, thus orthogonal (or almost) with the former. Another thought: Isnt more interesting when searching to refer to the content of the document? I rather not try to remeber my latest project specification is called guid://machine.org/2003-01-31/45 :-) When there are many documents, these readable ids become just as meaningless pointers as weird ones, thus mostly for machine use. We humans will use a directory/cataloging system anyway, I think. Please correct me if ...
Next-generation sequencing technologies are presently being used to answer key biological questions at the scale of the entire genome and with unprecedented depth. Whether determining genetic or genomic variations, cataloging transcripts and assessing their expression levels, identifying DNA-protein interactions or chromatin modifications, surveying the species diversity in an environmental sample, all these tasks are now tackled with High Throughput Sequencing (HTS) and require different, but computer intensive bioinformatic analyses. Typically, a recent RNA sequencing experiment (RNA-Seq) produces about 8 million reads of 75 base pairs each [1], but both the yield and read length will increase [2].. Mapping the reads against a reference genome provides the genomic positions of mapped reads. For instance with RNA-Seq reads, these positions allow to know whether a gene is expressed in the studied condition. The set of mapped positions represents only part of the information needed to analyze the ...

Not long ago, there were many points of trepidation about the value and utility of mapping epigenomes in human cells (Madhani et al., 2008). At the time, it was suggested that histone modifications simply reflect activities of transcription factors (TFs), so cataloging their patterns would offer little new information. However, some investigators believed in the value of epigenome maps and advocated for concerted efforts to produce such resources (Feinberg, 2007; Henikoff et al., 2008; Jones and Martienssen, 2005). The last five years have shown that epigenome maps can greatly facilitate the identification of potential functional sequences and thereby annotation of the human genome. Now, we appreciate the utility of epigenomic maps in the delineation of thousands of lincRNA genes and hundreds of thousands of cis-regulatory elements (ENCODE Project Consortium et al., 2012; Ernst et al., 2011; Guttman et al., 2009; Heintzman et al., 2009; Xie et al., 2013b; Zhu et al., 2013), all of which were ...

San Diegos native trees are the Torrey Pine, cottonwood, willow, alder, live oak, and sycamore. But most of San Diego was treeless in 1906. It resembled the bald, rolling hills east of Miramar and north of SR-52. And the growing towns need for firewood and charcoal threatened to decimate every tree in the region. When Watson was still in high school, he met Frank Waller, the famous horticulturist who traveled throughout California cataloging and photographing native trees and gathering their seeds. Watson had no idea such devotion - what Albert Wilson calls "forester evangelism" - was feasible. The meeting inspired Watson, writes Wilson: "with a vision of life-work nursing the eucalypti for California." After graduating in 1906, Watson began a small nursery. One of his first jobs: plant seven acres of eucalpyti in El Cajon. He worked from 7:00 a.m. till sundown, planting 680 seedling trees per acre. "I had the ground plowed and graded level. Then I marked off where the trees were to go. A ...

Figure 2. tRNA pools are coordinated with the alterations in the mRNA transcriptomes with different codon usage under differentiation or proliferation conditions. The repertoire has the effects on the cell fate determination.. tRNA repertoire and disease. tRNA repertoire has fundamental impact in human diseases. Many diseases are associated with the disrupted tRNAs levels. Dysregulation of certain tRNAs can induce tumorigenesis and cancer progression.. Cancer. After cataloging the tRNA repertoire, Gingold et al demonstrated the tRNA pools are different between cancer and differentiated non-cancer cells[4]. tRNAs that are upregulated in differentiated/arrested cells are repressed in proliferating cells. Conversely, tRNAs whose levels are high in proliferating cells become low in differentiated/arrested cells. Cancer cells adjust their tRNA pools to selectively bolster translation of the mRNAs that are required for tumor progression. By comparing tRNA expression in tumor versus normal breast ...

The understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying preterm birth is very limited, making prevention of preterm birth difficult. The incidence of preterm birth worldwide varies between 6% to 11% in singleton pregnancies and 64-93% of preterm deliveries occur after the spontaneous onset of labor (preterm labor) (1). The risk factors associated with preterm birth include demographic variables such as ethnic group, past obstetric history, and complications of the current pregnancy such as infection and fetal congenital anomalies. The current study aims to investigate the basic mechanisms of preterm labor by systematically cataloging the changes in expression levels of all expressed genes whose sequences are available. The goals will be accomplished by using microarray technology followed by quantitative real-time PCR, in situ PCR, in situ hybridization and proteomics ...

Microbes are everywhere. On door knobs, in your mouth, covering the New York City Subway, and festering on the kitchen sponge. The world is teeming with microbes-bustling communities of invisible organisms, including bacteria and fungi. Scientists are hard at work cataloging the microbial communities of people, buildings, and entire ecosystems. Many discoveries have shed light on how culture and behavior shape these communities.
Data Collection Notes: Most of the information for this collection is available ONLY in typed and photocopied form. The exception is statewide referenda data from 1968 to 1990, which ICPSR has converted into machine-readable form. Included in this portion of the collection are the county vote breakdowns for approximately 4,241 referenda voted upon in primary and general elections throughout the United States. A typed hardcopy codebook accompanies each state file. The primary election data are NOT available in machine-readable form. It is possible to supply, on a cost basis, limited portions of the referenda and primary election returns that are not machine-readable in the form of photocopies.. ...
Preparation of this data collection was funded by grant #90-A-1279 from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Administration on Aging. Estimates of the population of persons 60 years old and older were received from the Census Bureau in printed form and were made machine-readable by staff at ICPSR. Other variables contained in this dataset were merged from existing machine-readable census files. The data concerning racial composition of counties were taken from the CENSUS OF POPULATION AND HOUSING, 1980 [UNITED STATES]: P.L. 94-171 POPULATION COUNTS (ICPSR 7854). The figures concerning per capita income were taken from the Bureau of the Census, GENERAL REVENUE SHARING, 1978 POPULATION ESTIMATES (ICPSR 7840). Variables include Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) state and county codes, 1978 per capita income of county, and total population of county broken down by sex, race, and age (in four-year increments with a category for persons 75 years old and ...
A system for assisting a customer during shopping includes machine-readable currently-owned item indicia store and a compatibility determination subsystem. The machine-readable currently-owned item indicia store includes a smart-card, magnetic disk or the like, for storing indicia identifying selected characteristics of items which are currently owned by the customer, including such information as, for example, accurate color andr styling parameter and metric information. The compatibility determination subsystem generates a compatibility assessment in response to the currently-owned item indicia stored by the currently-owned item indicia store, indicia identifying selected characteristics for items provisionally selected by the customer, and compatibility parameter information identifying compatibilities among various types of indicia.
A patient-specimen identification system provides error-free identification of a specimen or sample from the time it is taken from a patient to the time when the results of the sample analysis are reported. Machine-readable labels are attached to the patient and to each container in which a sample or sub-sample may be contained. The machine-readable labels each contain a permanently encoded unique random number. When a sample is taken from the patient, the labels attached to the patient and the sample container are read and the two numbers are stored in an associated manner. Similarly, when portions of the sample are transferred to sub-sample containers, labels attached to the sample container and the sub-sample container are read and the two numbers are stored in an associated manner. The sub-samples are analyzed and the analysis results are associated with the number on the sub-sample container label. The analysis results are then correlated to the patients identity and the analysis results and
This section describes each element in the Journal Archiving and Interchange DTD. The elements have not been separated by module but are displayed all together alphabetically, in the order of their tag names (element type names). The tag name is the shorter machine-readable name used in the tagged documents, the DTD fragments, and by the software, for example, the tag name ,p, is used for the element named Paragraph. Each element description is a separate HTML page. The heading for the page names the elements tag name followed by its longer descriptive name. The rest of the element description page describes aspects of the element and its usage. These sections of the page always appear in the following order, although any given element description may not contain all the sections: ...
Netork Working Group L. Peter Deutsch Request For Comments: 606 PARC-MAXC December 1973 Host Names On-line Now that we finally have an official list of host names, it seems about time to put an end to the absurd situation where each site on the network must maintain a different, generally out-of-date, host list for the use of its own operating system or user programs. For example, each of the TENEX sites to which I have access ( SRI-ARC, BBN-TENEX, USC-ISI, and PARC-MAXC) has a slightly different mapping between host names and host addresses: none is complete, and I believe each one differs in some way from the official List. Since the NIC has responsibility for maintaining the official list, lt seems appropriate for them to maintain an on-line file, accessible to anyone, which Lists names and host addresses ( and certain other information which I will suggest in a moment) in an easily machine-readable form. This rules out, in my opinion, providing this information only in the form of an NLS ...
Wired occasionally carries good stories, but this aint one of them. It sounds portentous and should play well to all the anti-journalism reactionaries and self-styled media pundits, but really this is just flying cars and robot butlers.. Its important to note here that NewsScope isnt a news service like Reuters; rather, its a targeted data stream for the finance industry. Its output is not meant to replace the work of human journalists. Its output is not even meant to be read by humans.. But leave it to Wired to come up with an angle like "NewsScope has started carrying stories written by machines." A writer less enamored with breathless futurism might instead say that NewsScope parses corporate financial statements and extracts relevant data points, which it then summarizes in a machine-readable format, stripping out all the excess verbiage and historical statements that arent useful to automated trading software. Its somewhat analogous to a search spider, one that builds an index of ...

... - Università degli Studi di Firenze - This bibliographic material is patrimony of our Laboratory of the Behavior Physiology. This research unit originated in 1972 by will of Aldo Giachetti (until 1990) and with the beginning of the activity of Corrado Bucherelli. In the early 1980s, with Carlo Ambrogi Lorenzini (until 2004), the cataloging became more capillary and systematic, to continue to this day. All the researchers who worked in our laboratory contributed to this collection (Giovanna Tassoni 1986-2000, Benedetto Sacchetti 1996-2002 and Elisabetta Baldi from 1991). The study of learning, memory and behavior requires to follow a broad spectrum of neuroscience topics, ranging from neuronal biochemistry to neuropsychology. The Authors idea of publishing this collection comes from believing that a such website, though not exhaustive, might be a useful and targeted tool for the selection of bibliographic material in the field of behavioral neuroscience. The bibliographic
Abstract: What do searchers find when they look for literature on homosexuality? This question has profound implications for older as well as younger gays in their coming out, as well as in their subsequent identity development. Library records provide credible data to answer the question, since they represent relatively free sources of information, unlike data from bookstores, publishers, and some World Wide Web sites. The records of WorldCat, the worlds largest union database of library records, comprise over 30 million records listed in the Online Computer Library Center. For the purposes of the study, 18,757 records listed under "Homosexuality," "Gay Men," and "Gays" were downloaded; records for "Lesbian" and "Lesbians" were not examined. Findings of the study suggest that while there has indeed been considerable growth in terms of the quantity of gay literature produced since 1969, such gains maybe offset by the deteriorating quality of cataloging copy, which makes the experience of ...

The National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP), a partnership between the National Endowment for Humanities (NEH) and the Library of Congress, is a long-term effort to provide permanent, free access to historic newspapers selected and digitized by NEH-funded awardees in the United States. This program was created to build upon the United States Newspaper Program (USNP), another NEH & Library of Congress sponsored program geared toward locating, cataloging, and preserving microfilm newspapers published in the U.S. from the 18th Century to present. The NDNP extends the usefulness of the USNP digitized assets by incorporating newspapers published from 1836-1922 into a national digital newspaper resource, Chronicling America, where the digitized pages are made available. Through this resource over 9 million newspaper pages have been made available thus far. The University of Florida was one of the original NDNP awardees in 2005 when the program first started. Approximately 100,000 pages ...

Walking Trees: Teaching Teachers in New York City Schools is a book by Ralph Fletcher. It was first published in 1990. It was published again in 1995 under a slightly different title Walking Trees: Portraits of Teachers and Children in the Culture of Schools. Walking Trees: Teaching Teachers in New York City Schools is the story of Ralph Fletchers introduction to the New York City school system as a teacher trainer in a writing staff development program. Brenda Miller Power in her review for Educational Leadership said "Walking Trees is a wonder", she believes that Fletcher has "done a superb job of cataloging in specific ways the difference between a burned-out teacher and a bad teacher" and that "its greatest contribution to our field may be that it helps us begin to ask more of the right kinds of difficult questions". Nancy E. Zuwiyya in her review for Library Journal said that "Fletchers early encounters often prove frustrating, and his description of a typical uncooperative teacher as a ...

Child joined the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) after finding that she was too tall to enlist in the Womens Army Corps (WACs) or in the U.S. Navys WAVES.[5] She began her OSS career as a typist at its headquarters in Washington, but because of her education and experience soon was given a more responsible position as a top secret researcher working directly for the head of OSS, General William J. Donovan.[6][7][8] As a research assistant in the Secret Intelligence division, she typed 10,000 names on white note cards to keep track of officers. For a year, she worked at the OSS Emergency Rescue Equipment Section (ERES) in Washington, D.C. as a file clerk and then as an assistant to developers of a shark repellent needed to ensure that sharks would not explode ordnance targeting German U-boats. In 1944, she was posted to Kandy, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), where her responsibilities included "registering, cataloging and channeling a great volume of highly classified communications" for the OSSs ...

The Microbial Genomics Section (MGS) explores connections between microbes, microbial communities and human health. The MGS has an ambitious portfolio of projects focused on cataloging the bacterial and fungal diversity of human skin as it relates to both health and disease. Analysis of the relative abundance of bacterial and fungal marker genes has been used to generate both baseline characterizations of healthy individuals and testable hypotheses about the underlying causes of diseases like atopic dermatitis. Comprehensive studies employing metagenomic sequencing to capture pathway and abundance data across taxonomic kingdoms are now underway. In addition, a fruitful collaboration with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Centers Department of Laboratory Medicine has been established to examine outbreaks of clinically relevant hospital pathogens, focusing on carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, using high-resolution genome sequencing.. The Dan Markingson case is one of those that asks us all to re-examine our beliefs. Such cases can be a screen on which to project our pre-existing thoughts or it can be a new page. Whichever way you take it - the true drama of his suicide, the pictures of his childhood posted on the Internet, the anguish of his mother, the struggles of his champions - all add a layer of reality to the issues often seen from a greater distance. Tueday morning, I worked in a busy clinic seeing patients, and this case was sitting on the side of my mind. I had been trying to focus on what aspect was the most compelling to me. I knew it wasnt all the major controversies that immediately come to mind, things we could all list. Carl Elliot does a fine job of cataloging them in The Deadly Corruption of Clinical Trials. And it wasnt the absurdities that I [and everyone else] mentioned; allowing a patient declared incompetent to suddenly become competent to sign on to a trial; putting someone whose mind was filled with ...
