Title: Biomarkers for Oxidative Stress: Clinical Application in Pediatric Medicine. VOLUME: 14 ISSUE: 3. Author(s):Hirokazu Tsukahara. Affiliation:Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Fukui, Fukui 910-1193, Japan.. Keywords:Antioxidants, biomarkers, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, nitric oxide, oxidative stress, pediatric medicine, reactive oxygen species, urine samples. Abstract: Loads of reactive oxygen species (ROS), including superoxide anion and nitric oxide, that overburden antioxidant systems induce oxidative stress in the body. Major cellular targets of ROS are membrane lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, and carbohydrates. Circumstantial evidence suggests that ROS play a crucial role in the initiation and progression of various diseases in children and adolescents. The involvement of ROS and oxidative stress in pediatric diseases is an important concern, but oxidative stress status in young subjects and appropriate methods for its measurement remain to be ...

Objective: To examine pH in the approximal dental biofilm after acid and alkali formation from sucrose and urea, after an adaptation period to these substances, in caries-free (CF) and caries-active (CA) individuals. Saliva flow and buffer capacity, and aciduric bacteria in saliva and plaque were also examined. Material and Methods: Twenty adolescents and young adults (15-21 years) with no caries (n = 10, Dm + iMFS = 0) or ≥1 new manifest lesions/year (n = 10, DmMFS = 3.4 ± 1.8) participated. After plaque sampling, interproximal plaque pH was measured using the strip method before (baseline) and up to 30 min (final pH) after random distribution of a 1-min rinse with 10 ml of 10% sucrose or 0.25% urea. This procedure was repeated after a 1-week adaptation period of rinsing 5 times/day with 10 ml of the selected solution. After a 2-week washout period the second solution was similarly tested. Mutans streptococci, lactobacilli and pH 5.2-tolerant bacteria were analyzed by culturing. Results: In ...
MODEL RELEASED. Using a pH meter. Schoolgirl using a pH meter on a solution of dilute ethanoic acid (CH3.COOH). The display shows an acidic pH of 4.90. A pH reading measures the concentration of free hydrogen ions. A pH below 7 (acidic) is a higher concentration of hydrogen ions than found in water (pH 7, neutral). A pH above 7 (alkaline) is a lower concentration than found in water. - Stock Image H460/0239

The European Union (EU) Paediatric Regulation requires that all new medicinal products applying for a marketing authorisation (MA) in the EU provide a paediatric investigation plan (PIP) covering a clinical and non-clinical trial programme relating to the use in the paediatric population, unless a waiver applies. Conducting trials in children is challenging on many levels, including ethical and practical issues, which may affect the availability of the clinical evidence. In scientifically justified cases, extrapolation of data from other populations can be an option to gather evidence supporting the benefit-risk assessment of the medicinal product for paediatric use. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) is working on providing a framework for extrapolation that is scientifically valid, reliable and adequate to support MA of medicines for children. It is expected that the extrapolation framework together with therapeutic area guidelines and individual case studies will support future PIPs. ...

In 2013, the European Commission published a first report on the Paediatric Regulation and while it revealed some signs of progress, it found that, due to the length of medicinal products development, it would take at least 10 years to gain a full understanding of the situation. The Commission has since published a second report in October 2017, ten years since the Regulation came into force, which concluded that The Paediatric Regulation has had a very positive impact on paediatric drug development and has led to:. ...

NaturalNews) Two new studies showing that vaccines increase the risk of diabetes have been published in the Open Pediatric Medicine Journal.. In a prior study, published in the journal Autoimmunity, Dr. J. Bartholomew Classen of Classen Immunotherapies and David Carey Classen of the University of Utah compared more than 100,000 children who had received between one and four doses of the hemophilus vaccine with more than 100,000 unvaccinated children. The Classens found that after seven years, children in the vaccination group had a 26 percent higher risk of developing diabetes than children in the non-vaccine group. This amounted to an extra 54 cases of diabetes per 100,000 children vaccinated.. The Classens noted that the vaccine itself is only projected to prevent seven deaths and seven to 26 cases of permanent disability per 100,000 children.. "Our results conclusively prove there is a causal relationship between immunization schedules and diabetes," J. Bartholomew Classen said at the time. ...

Theres a reason I dont recommend decyl glucoside if you dont have a pH meter, and its that super high pH reading. Ive used a few different ones, and the lowest pH Ive tested was over 8, so you have to bring it down using citric acid or something similar. You can try to predict how much citric acid will bring it down by x pH, but thats really only true for the product at hand. It can change with every batch, so the only way to know how much of an acid to add to bring your product down is to actually measure it. And you need a pH meter for that ...

The aim of this study was to document changes in plaque pH when an acidic challenge was followed by rinsing with miswak extract (Salvadora persica), and to evaluate the effect of miswak rinse on parotid gland secretion rate. Plaque pH was measured in 3-day-old plaque using the microtouch electrode. Rinsing with miswak extract, compared with water rinsing, resulted in protracted elevation of plaque pH (, 6.0). The difference in plaque pH between miswak extract and water rinse was statistically significant at 30 min (p , 0.001). Rinsing with miswak extract stimulated parotid gland secretion (p , 0.01). In conclusion, miswak extract raised the plaque pH, suggesting a potential role in caries prevention.. ...

Pediatric healthcare systems in both the United States and Canada are facing unique challenges in serving children and maintaining centres of excellence. These challenges stem from, but are not limited to, inadequate government-issued health research funding; the demand to provide excellent care with, at times, limited resources; and patients access to care. They are also due to the discrepancy between the technology that is being developed in the biomedical field and the lack of translation that is seen from this innovation to pediatric medicine. Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to attend Pediatrics 2040: Trends and Innovations for the Next 25 Years (pediatrics2040.org). The mission of the conference is to engender and support an ecosystem of pediatric innovators to improve health care for all children.. ...

The pH meter measures the pH of a solution using an ion-selective electrode (ISE) that responds to the H+ concentration of the solution. The pH electrode produces a voltage that is proportional to the concentration of the H+ concentration, and making measurements with a pH meter is therefore a form of potentiometry. The pH electrode is attached to control electronics which convert the voltage to a pH reading and displays it on a meter. ...

Food and drink for diabetics. Important stuff this the message is again spelt out with lancet caps in the same way as sequence 7. Having discussed the animation with healthcare professionals it is apparent they think the important parts of their message must not be overlook but be emphasised. What better way to do it (largely for their benefit) can there be to than writing it out clear and slowly in block capitals. "SWEET FOOD CONTAINS GLUCOSE!". (Even so, there was quite a long debate over the precise wording such simple phrase of this).. When I came to make a start in the morning it had rained over night and humidity in the air seems to wrapped the paper stretched out on the board. In fact this whole part has proved immensely frustrating.. Because the original file of photographs is too late to be processed by Photoshop it had to be broken down into three separate parts. "SWEET FOOD", "CONTAINS GLUCO" "OSE!" I Thought I could the CONTAINS GLUCO" "OSE!" for the next part of animation by ...
