To our knowledge, this is the first study to explore the association between ever use of synthetic cannabinoids and health risk behaviors in domains such as injury/violence, mental health, and sexual health among a nationally representative sample of US high school students. Furthermore, this study contributes new evidence on how behavioral correlates differ by type of marijuana use. Overall, we observed that ever use of synthetic cannabinoids was associated with the majority of health risk behaviors included in our study and that those associations tended to be more pronounced for ever use of synthetic cannabinoids than for ever use of marijuana only, particularly for substance use behaviors and sexual risk behaviors.. Given that synthetic cannabinoids are a relatively recent issue in the United States, high school students use of the drug was not monitored in national surveillance systems until the 2011 MTF study cycle1 and the 2015 YRBS cycle.21 As a result, much of the available literature ...

TY - JOUR. T1 - Sickle Cell Crisis Complicated by Synthetic Cannabinoid Abuse. T2 - A Case Report. AU - Zheng, Crystal Y.. AU - Minniti, Caterina P.. AU - Chaitowitz, Mark H.. PY - 2016/3/4. Y1 - 2016/3/4. N2 - We describe a case of delirium occurring in a hospitalized sickle cell patient. Following admission for a typical pain crisis, the patient continued to report unrelieved pain with marked agitation for several days, despite escalating doses of opioid analgesia, and ultimately required intubation following development of acute chest syndrome (ACS). After some delay, it was discovered that he had been using a synthetic cannabinoid (K2) which may have precipitated his pain crisis and, with hindsight, explained his prolonged period of delirium. Delayed recognition was due to multiple factors, notably the absence of an index of suspicion for this novel drug, the presence of alternate explanations for the patients altered mental status, and the fact that reliable laboratory screening for ...

Studies have been conducted to highlight the anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties of cannabinoids and also their potentials for cartilage repair and regeneration. Various wound healing techniques can be used to investigate the mechanisms of chondrocyte repair in monolayers or three dimensional tissue constructs. The effect of different concentrations of the synthetic cannabinoids WIN55, 212-2 (WIN-2), URB602 and HU-308 with and without their antagonists on the wound healing of chondrocyte monolayers was investigated using a simple scratch assay model. The three cannabinoids were found to increase wound healing of chondrocyte monolayers, but at different rates. WIN55, 212-2 at a concentration of 1μM had the highest effect of increasing both migration and proliferation of chondrocytes cultured in a chondrogenic media, which increased the rate of wound closure. It was also found that treating the cells with 2μM of any of the cannabinoids lead to a decrease in cell proliferation and ...

CB 2 agonists demonstrate remarkable anti inflammatory properties but , your , idea of receptor attraction has some merit, at least with respect to the , CB , 1 receptor. I recall an old study wherein they found that cannabis , tolerance , was proportional to the level of receptor retraction from the cell , surface. I wonder if, as with mu opioid tolerance, this effect is mediated by a PKC. Would inhibiting that PKC result in elevation of cannabinoid receptor levels? Also, B-cell proliferation appears to be partly under the regulation of a CB, although the research hasnt clarified it well yet. Ive always wondered if the way loss of gut bacteria knocks out the mu opioid and cannabinoid receptors of the gut wasnt also kicking antibody/B-cell production into needless overdrive (hence the use of B-cell depletion agents in autoimmune condition). , This does raise some worrying questions with respect to the chronic , ingestion of the same but the studies tend to find little ill effects. , ...

Thanks Kofi, interesting stuff. CB 2 agonists demonstrate remarkable anti inflammatory properties but your idea of receptor attraction has some merit, at least with respect to the CB 1 receptor. I recall an old study wherein they found that cannabis tolerance was proportional to the level of receptor retraction from the cell surface. This does raise some worrying questions with respect to the chronic ingestion of the same but the studies tend to find little ill effects. Cannabidol, the non-psychoactive form, strikes me as an excellent target for therapeutic potential. A recent news release about some research indicated that topical application of THC, which does ligand to the CB 2, had strong anti-allergic effects, sufficient to warrant clinical trials. This is entirely concordant with other studies showing that CB 2 activation down regulates excessive inflamation being driven by innate immune responses. Thanks, John. The use of synthetic cannabinoid receptor (CBR) ligands for therapeutic use has provided problems regarding the natural endogenous regulatory tone of the eCBs, which in turn has resulted in unwanted side effects. Part of the reason of this is due to synthetic agonists producing the well documented psychotropic effects at CB t receptors. Alternative targets for the manipulation of the eCB system for therapeutic benefits have been explored. One remains to be the use of FAAH inhibitors, which in turn potentially increase levels of eCBs in the system, hence potentiating their effects at the CBRs, or at other receptor sites. Therefore we have developed two HTS assays for the identification of potential inhibitors of FAAH and MAGL. They prove to be robust, cheap and facile and provide a clear indication of inhibitable levels of FAAH and MAGL activity. The FAAH assay can be further used to establish concentration-response curves of initial `hit compounds. Yet, the HTS MAGL assay requires further ...
The term Terpene is not new in the market. Still, very few people are aware of its existence. Terpenes are organic compounds found in cannabis plants that give them flavor and fragrance. Now its easier to understand why every cannabis plant has a unique flavor and aroma. Youll be surprised to know that over 100 different Terpenes strains have already been identified in the cannabis plant and have their unique composition. Some strains produce a citrusy aroma, some smell like lavender, while others can smell more earthy and pungent.. Cannabis has a unique smell. Most people find it calming and enjoyable. This is all because of the Terpene strains that are packed in the sticky glands of the cannabis plant. They are the reason that cannabis plants get such a distinctive smell. This substance has two primary roles in every plants life: to protect the flowers from predators and to produce resin. The terpenes are a good fit for medical and beauty products. When we study the term organic terpenes, ...
Comparing dopaminergic dynamics in the dorsolateral striatum between adolescent and adult rats- Effect of an acute dose of WIN55212-2. Brief summary: A recent study has exposed an age-dependent mechanism within the dopaminergic system that relies on cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1). Adult and adolescent dopamine levels were examined in the presence of a CB1 agonist and increased levels of extracellular dopamine were found in adolescents. This study reveals the different effects cannabis-based medicine has depended on the age of the patient and warrants future research to ensure cannabis has the desired therapeutic effect on patients. Dr Caplan Discussion Points:. This adds a helpful layer of insight to the way an animal model of dopamine changes over time, as well as its interaction with exogenous cannabinoids. This sheds light on the natural evolution of the dopamine control system (irrespective of how it interacts with endocannabinoids), and it also points to how cannabinoids may be ...

Researchers from the University of Twentes MESA+ and MIRA research institutes have succeeded in visualizing THC, the active ingredient of cannabis, in intact plant structures. The substance is mainly found in trichomes (fine outgrowths) and in the small leaves around the flowers of the cannabis plant. Little or no THC is present in the stems and flowers. While these findings are not new, the study carried out by these researchers has shown their method (hyperspectral CARS Microscopy) to be a powerful tool for investigating the medicinal properties of plants. An article describing this research was published today in a scientific journal, the Journal of Biomedical Optics.. Plants have developed a range of mechanisms for synthesizing substances that happen to have medicinal properties. These mechanisms are often better or more efficient than those available to us in the lab. If we can find out how and where plants produce the requisite materials, we may be able to imitate nature. Using ...

No analytical confirmation of synthetic cannabinoids have been presented to the media or published elsewhere for these cases, but I would expect that they are diligently working on this behind the scenes. Of course this is just speculation, but I wouldnt be surprised that this is the work of one of the newer generation synthetic cannabinoids such as AB-PINACA, AB-CHMINACA, or maybe even a PB-22 derivative such as FDU-PB-22. I only know of a lab or two that routinely tests for some of these newer compounds in blood, let alone urine specimens. Also, considering the cat-and-mouse games that are played with these drugs, there may be (and probably is) a new cannabinoid on the scene which we arent even aware. We must always remember that we know very little (if anything) about the chemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology of these compounds used in herbal incese/potpourri blends. ...
An interesting feature of these newer synthetic cannabinoids is the ester or amide linkages. These linkages were not included in the earlier waves of cannabinoid compounds (i.e. JWH-018 → AM-2201 → UR-144...) as they contained the simple ketone linkage. The ester linkage is seen in the quinolinyl carboxylate derivative compounds such as PB-22, 5F-PB-22 and BB-22, while the amide linkage is seen the many of these newer substances such as the various ADBs, PINACAs, and FUBINACAs. Regarding these amide-containing cannabinoids (structures referenced in the figure above in red-color and in a previous blog post here), the amide linkage can be very susceptible to hydrolysis reactions. In the case of the two compounds related to the Colorado cases, possible in vivo amide hydrolysis would lead to formation of a carboxylic acid and an amine. Could this amine be active in the body? Possibly. ...

By James E. Brumley] In mid-September, Vitality Biopharma Inc (OTCMKTS:VBIO) announced it was going to take aim at the development of an alternative to opioids as a means of treating pain. At the time, there was little doubt that the companys cannabinoid science was capable of doing so. What wasnt clear to VBIO shareholders was exactly how that might happen…. meaning what sort of drug might Vitality Biopharma come up with. We got the first of what will likely be several answers to the question today. Per todays press release, Vitality Biopharma intends to come up with a treatment for narcotic bowel syndrome, which is a severe form of (ironically enough) opiate-induced abdominal pain.. As a refresher, Vitality Biopharma was the name we introduced to you back on August 8th, pointing out it had developed a whole new way of making cannabinoid-based medicines. Their versions offer all the upsides of cannabinoids, but without the psychotropic (getting high) effects, and without some of the ...

Nick, this could also be seen as payback.. The DEA has been terrorizing pain doctors for over a decade now. Im quite sure that it has crossed the awareness of the AMA that by doing this, they have set in motion the machinery that could, in essence, destroy the DEA. For as everyone with three brain cells to click together knows, cannabis prohibition is the lynch-pin of drug prohibition en toto, and if that lynch-pin is removed, the entire train will come to a screeching halt.. This can only go in one direction, now. …facilitating the conduct of clinical research and development of cannabinoid-based medicines,…. Despite its disclaimer, the AMA, by doing this, has thrown the gauntlet. The AMAs demand for this kind of research is a sword aimed directly at the ONDCPs and the DEAs necks, for its as clear a challenge as can be made to the political power of the DEA by demanding that science instead of politics play a role in determining policy, which is exactly what Prez Obama said he ...

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and synthetic Cannabinoids act by binding to specific Cannabinoids receptors located on the neurons in various areas of the cortex and hippocampus. Receptors act like light switches … when the drug molecule binds to the receptor, the switch is thrown and the neuron responds in an all or none manner, either increasing in firing or ceasing to function. In order to get a more intense response, more receptors have to be activated. The more receptors that are activated and the greater the affinity of the drug molecule for the receptor, the more intense the response.. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and synthetic Cannabinoids are all Central Nervous System (CNS) depressants. In this context, a depressant means a drug that slows down or depresses the brain and slows you down, diminishes your cognitive functions, clouds your thinking, causes sleepiness, which in the case of synthetic Cannabinoids, can progress to stupor, lack of consciousness, catatonia, and coma. THC ...
Designer Drugs: Synthetic Marijuana. An emerging trend in the drug world is the use synthetic cannabinoids or synthetic marijuana. Synthetic cannabinoids are psychoactive substances that are chemically similar to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC, the active ingredient in marijuana) and are applied to plant material. While synthetic cannabinoids are chemically similar to THC, it does not mean that these substances will necessarily have the same or similar effects as marijuana. Synthetic cannabinoids are derived from lab synthesized liquid chemicals which can have adverse and/or unexpected effects on its users: Little is known of the pharmacological profile of the chemicals or their by-products. (1) Furthermore, these products may also contain other undisclosed toxic chemicals. Like marijuana, smoking is the primary method of consumption. Synthetic cannabinoids are often packaged and sold as potpourri or incense and labeled not for human consumption. These products go by many names: Spice, K2, Scooby ...
Previous experiments have shown that LTP of field potential recordings in the hippocampus is blocked by cannabinoid receptor activation (Nowicky et al., 1987; Collins et al., 1994, 1995; Terranova et al., 1995). This inhibition could be caused by a direct effect on the protein(s) involved in long-term synaptic plasticity. Activation of cannabinoid receptors has been found to inhibit the production of cAMP via activation of a G-protein to which the receptor is coupled (Bidaut-Russell et al., 1990; Deadwyler et al., 1995). This decrease in cAMP could, in turn, reduce the activity of cAMP-dependent protein kinase, which has been identified as an important modulator of LTP (Brandon et al., 1997). Other direct effects on proteins involved in LTP and LTD are possible. However, cannabinoid receptor-mediated G-protein activation is also known to inhibit release of neurotransmitter in cultured hippocampal neurons (Shen et al., 1996). To determine whether cannabinoid receptor activation inhibits long-term ...

Evidence from in vitro and in vivo experiments suggests that cannabinoid receptor agonists can reduce tumor growth and induce apoptosis in several tumor types, including melanoma, breast and prostate cancer, colon cancer, leukemia, and glioma. However, to our knowledge, the response to cannabinoid treatment has not been studied in sarcomas yet. Here, we investigated the effects of cannabinoid receptor agonists in the sarcoma tposRMS, which we not only confirmed to express high levels of CB1 mRNA but also showed expression on the protein level by Western blot and immunohistochemistry.. In vitro, cannabinoid receptor agonists HU210, THC, and Met-F-AEA exerted an antiproliferative and proapoptotic action on tposRMS cells through activation of the CB1 receptor. The specificity of this effect for CB1 was shown by two means: First, the cell viability in fibroblasts or tnegRMS control cell lines, which express only low levels of CB1, is not affected. Second, the CB1-specific antagonist AM251 was able ...
Cannabis plants, just like any other plant, need to be harvested when their maturity time comes. New cannabis growers may be wary of when to harvest cannabis plants. Cannabis plants will vary in time to reap, depending on the type of strain. Different strains offer different harvesting times. However, in all strains, it is essential to note the exact flowering date.. This is important since the flowering date is the determinant of the harvest time in all strains. Flowering dates will also vary depending on the strain. For instance, Sativa Dominant strains will take up to twenty-four weeks after flowering to be mature for harvest. In contrast, the Indica dominant strain will take up to eight weeks after flowering to be ripe for harvest. Other strains will range between eight to ten weeks. However, knowing when the plants are mature for yield does not entirely depend on the time frame of flowering.. Additionally, one can know if the plant is ready for harvest if you notice a change of color on the ...

There are over a hundred compounds found within the cannabis plant that belongs to a class of drugs referred to as cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are a category of chemical compounds that act on cannabinoid receptors in cells that modulate the discharge of neurotransmitters in the brain. There are two forms of cannabinoids: endocannabinoids which originate contained in the physique, and exogenous cannabinoids which come up open air of the body. 2-AG and anandamide are the two most important endocannabinoids, and exogenous cannabinoids embrace the THC and CBD found in hashish.. The structure-activity relationship studies that have been reported for cannabinoids suggest that 1) the conformation of the C-ring at the C9 position, 2) the A-ring phenolic hydroxyl, and 3) the hydrophobic side chain are important determinants for the production of analgesia, as well as other cannabinoid effects. However, either these previous structure-activity studies described for cannabinoid compounds have not been quantitative in nature or the prediction of the activity of known and unknown compounds based on molecular structure has not been tested in a comprehensive manner. In this study we describe a three-dimensional molecular modeling program using comparative molecular field analysis to derive quantitative structure-activity relationships fitting pharmacological potencies and binding affinities of cannabinoids. The analysis has proven to accurately fit the pharmacological activity of cannabinoid analogs, with cross-validated r2 values of greater than 0.3 and final analysis r2 values ...

In this study we compared the effects of a diverse set of CB ligands against β amyloid-mediated neuronal toxicity and activated microglial-conditioned media-based neurotoxicity in vitro, and compared this with a capacity to directly alter β amyloid (Aβ) fibril or aggregate formation. Neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cells were exposed to Aβ1-42 directly or microglial (BV-2 cells) conditioned media activated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in the presence of the CB1 receptor-selective agonist ACEA, CB2 receptor-selective agonist JWH-015, phytocannabinoids Δ(9)-THC and cannabidiol (CBD), the endocannabinoids 2-arachidonoyl glycerol (2-AG) and anandamide or putative GPR18/GPR55 ligands O-1602 and abnormal-cannabidiol (Abn-CBD). TNF-α and nitrite production was measured in BV-2 cells to compare activation via LPS or albumin with Aβ1-42. Aβ1-42 evoked a concentration-dependent loss of cell viability in SH-SY5Y cells but negligible ...
The cannabinoid signaling plays a significant role in controlling the local immune response on the skin. It has been found from research that endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids modulated immune fluctuations. The homeostatic signaling of the ECS through its receptors CB1 and CB2 helps keep the production and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines under control.. Cannabidiol (CBD) positively influences the endocannabinoid system (ECS) through its receptors CB1 and CB2. Due to this, it produces an anti-inflammatory effect when applied topically for cutaneous inflammation. Apart from this, other cannabinoids found in the hemp plant like cannabigerol (CBG), cannabichromene (CBC), CBGV, CBDV, And THCV are also known to produce anti-inflammatory effects when applied to the skin.. Apart from the above-mentioned skincare effects, the high lipid content of cannabidiol products like CBD oil helps to soothe the skin when applied topically. Also, the antioxidants contained in it helps with ...
Here is the appended abstract taken from our CBD supplier, Nuleaf, telling you about our CBD origins for our Carolyns Facial Fitness, cbd Cream. About CBD Oil. What is CBD?. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally-occurring constituent of industrial hemp (cannabis sativa) plants. It is the most abundant non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and is being scientifically investigated for numerous reasons. Most people have heard of a cannabinoid called THC, which is the ingredient in cannabis that gets users high. Unlike THC, CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid and does not cause a high.. Whats the difference between CBD from hemp and CBD from marijuana?. Both hemp and marijuana are from the same genus and species (cannabis sativa). The characteristic of having low THC is the single difference that most rely on to distinguish industrial hemp from marijuana. CBD taken from hemp and marijuana is the exact same compound.. How do you know how much CBD is in your products?. Our CBD ...
One of those packets was tested by a lab and was found to contain, in addition to heroin and fentanyl, a drug called 5-F-ADB, which is a class of drugs called a synthetic cannabinoid, said Dr. Thomas Farley, city health commissioner.. He said the huge spike in nonfatal opioid overdoses suggested that adverse reactions to an additional drug like this could be responsible for the surge in ER visits. Synthetic cannabinoids are man-made drugs that try to mimic marijuana, but can be far more dangerous.. Sometimes known on the street as K2, synthetic cannabinoids are a growing problem in Philadelphia, said Farley. They can cause agitation, heart problems, and sudden death. But he said the health department was waiting for more test results to confirm whether they were the main cause of the recent surge in overdoses.. Philadelphia police said they saw another increase in overdoses in Kensington Thursday morning, responding to more than 15 incidents.. Inspector Ray Convery of the Philadelphia ...
Marijuana is currently the most commonly abused illicit drug. According to recent studies, cannabinoid use occurring prior to pregnancy can impact brain plasticity and behavior in future generations. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether adolescent exposure of female rats to Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) induces transgenerational effects on the reward-facilitating effects of Δ9-THC and d-amphetamine in their adult male offspring. Female Sprague-Dawley rats received Δ9-THC (0.1 or 1 mg/kg, ip) or vehicle during postnatal days 28-50. As adults, females were mated with drug-naïve males. We then assessed potential alterations of the Δ9-THCs (0, 0.1, 0.5 and 1mg/kg, ip) and d-amphetamines (0, 0.1, 0.5 and 1mg/kg, ip) reward-modifying effects using the curve-shift variant of the intracranial self-stimulation (ICSS) procedure in their adult male F1 offspring. The reward-facilitating effect of the 0.1mg dose of Δ9-THC was abolished in the F1 offspring of females that were
Excitotoxicity is a paradigm used to explain the biochemical events in both acute neuronal damage and in slowly progressive, neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we show in a longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging study that Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), the main active compound in marijuana, reduces neuronal injury in neonatal rats injected intracerebrally with the Na+/K+-ATPase inhibitor ouabain to elicit excitotoxicity. In the acute phase Δ9-THC reduced the volume of cytotoxic edema by 22%. After 7 d, 36% less neuronal damage was observed in treated rats compared with control animals. Coadministration of the CB1 cannabinoid receptor antagonist SR141716 prevented the neuroprotective actions of Δ9-THC, indicating that Δ9-THC afforded protection to neurons via the CB1 receptor. In Δ9-THC-treated rats the volume of astrogliotic tissue was 36% smaller. The CB1 receptor antagonist did not block this effect. These results provide evidence that the cannabinoid system can serve to protect the ...

CBD also known as cannabadiol, is a non-psychoactive (it wont make you feel high) compound found in cannabis. It is one of over 60 different compounds present in cannabis. CBD is usually present in cannabis in high concentrations along with THC (the compound in cannabis that is psychoactive and makes you feel high).. Its non-psychoactive because of its lack of affinity and attraction for CB1 receptors (the receptors that cause one to experience a cerebral high). There are two types of cannabinoid receptors in the human body; CB1 and CB2. Both are naturally found throughout the body but are most common in the brain and immune system.. CB1 receptors are responsible for marijuanas psychoactive effects. These receptors affect memory, mood, sleep, appetite and pain sensation. CB2 receptors have anti-inflammatory effects and are found in immune cells. Cbd does have a great affinity and or attraction for CB2 receptors making it a great natural anti-inflammatory and immune system enhancer.. ...

TT Brown and AS Dobs, Endocrine effects of marijuana - Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 2002 v42: In the 35 years since the active compound of marijuana, delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol, was isolated, the psychological and physiological impact of marijuana use has been actively investigated. Animal models have demonstrated that cannabinoid administration acutely alters multiple hormonal systems, including the suppression of the gonadal steroids, growth hormone, prolactin, and thyroid hormone and the activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. These effects are mediated by binding to the endogenous cannabinoid receptor in or near the hypothalamus. ...
Autophagy can promote cell survival or cell death, but the molecular basis underlying its dual role in cancer remains obscure. Here we demonstrate that Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main active component of marijuana, induces human glioma cell death through stimulation of autophagy. Our data indicate that THC induced ceramide accumulation and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2α (eIF2α) phosphorylation and thereby activated an ER stress response that promoted autophagy via tribbles homolog 3-dependent (TRB3-dependent) inhibition of the Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1) axis. We also showed that autophagy is upstream of apoptosis in cannabinoid-induced human and mouse cancer cell death and that activation of this pathway was necessary for the antitumor action of cannabinoids in vivo. These findings describe a mechanism by which THC can promote the autophagic death of human and mouse cancer cells and provide evidence that cannabinoid administration may be an ...

CBD. Since its existence, the cannabis plant has always come in handy for a wide array of uses. As such, some researchers opined that the high feeling associated with that plant was termed a spiritual by the people of old and medium or gateway to communicate with their ancestors. Fast-forward today and the same plant thanks to its medicinal potencies is now legalized in a wide array of states in the US.. Amongst other things, the cannabis plant is rich with a wide array of composites but the two grabbing all the headings are the THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and the CBD (cannabidiol).. CBD. The rise of the cannabis industry in the US is hugely credited to the legalization of cannabis in most states in the US for medical and or recreational uses. These of course, alongside the potent nature of the cannabis plant has been key to the rise and popularity of the cannabis industry in the US. The CBD or cannabidiol is a potent chemical component, which emanates from the Cannabis sativa plant.. Supported ...
What About the Other Cannabinoids? Beyond THC & CBD on Doctor Frank | Much of the focus on cannabis research tends to look at two specific cannabinoids:…
The anti-cancer effect of the plant-derived cannabinoid, cannabidiol, has been widely demonstrated both in vivo and in vitro. However, this body of preclinical work has not been translated into clinical use. Key issues around this failure can be related to narrow dose effects, the cell model used and incomplete efficacy. A model of acute lymphoblastic disease, the Jurkat T cell line, has been used extensively to study the cannabinoid system in the immune system and cannabinoid-induced apoptosis. Using these cells, this study sought to investigate the outcome of those remaining viable cells post-treatment with cannabidiol, both in terms of cell size and tracking any subsequent recovery. The phosphorylation status of the mammalian Target of Rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway and the downstream target ribosomal protein S6, were measured. The ability of cannabidiol to exert its effect on cell viability was also evaluated in physiological oxygen conditions. Cannabidiol reduced cell viability incompletely,
Mechanistic studies have shown that selective inhibitors of CYP2C9 (sulfaphenazole) and CYP1A2 (α-naphthoflavone) block oxidation of JWH-018 and AM2201 in human liver microsomes (Chimalakonda et al., 2013), further demonstrating the importance of these P450 isoforms in the detoxification of these compounds. The in vitro evidence suggests that individuals with certain allelic variants for these enzymes might be more likely to experience increased toxicity following the use of synthetic cannabinoids. Urinary elimination of synthetic cannabinoids or their metabolites may contribute to the kidney toxicity that has been observed with some of these compounds (Sobolevsky et al., 2010; Moran et al., 2011; Centers for Disease and Prevention, 2013).. Given their shared metabolism via P450 isoforms, combined use of synthetic cannabinoids and various prescription medications may result in adverse drug-drug reactions. Commonly prescribed drugs, such as valproic acid and sertraline potently inhibit CYP2C9, ...
Cannabis has been used for thousands of years as a medicinal aid to treatment numerous ailments. The entire cannabis plant is beneficial. There is archeological evidence that proves that humans have used cannabis for at least 10,000 years; recorded history, for at least 5,000 years.. Cannabis has been a source of food, fuel, paper, and building materials, a textile fiber, and a folk medicine remedy for thousands of years. THC and CBD are two popular cannabinoids, and have been used medicinally for centuries. But now, science has proven that theres far more to the cannabis plant than just those two beneficial compounds. Cannabis also has terpenes. Terpenes are can be thought of like the essential oils of the cannabis plant. These oils emit scents and flavors which contribute to the plants efficacy.. Terpenes are the chemical compounds within the cannabis plant that work concurrently with cannabinoids. The terpenes are responsible for the aroma, flavor and the specific effects within each ...
Terpenes are a component of cannabis that have become a major point of interest over the past few years. Terpenes they are an essential oil that is naturally found in the cannabis plant, and they are very aromatic. These compounds are also found in a variety of other plants and insects, but the cannabis plant in particular has very high levels of terpenes. Terpenes naturally enhances the cannabis high, making it more enjoyable to consume.. The potency of the terpenes in the cannabis plant combines with THC to make it much more enjoyable. There are different types of terpenes in the cannabis plant, and they each have different effects. For example, some terpenes can have very calming effects, some work as an anti-depressant, and others reduce pain and inflammation. The effects depend on which type of terpenes is found in the cannabis and how it interacts with the THC and other components. Research is currently being done to determine the best combinations of terpenes.. Terpenes can also have ...
What is THC?. Youve probably heard about this acronym and are wanting to know more about it.. THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, is the chemical responsible for most of daggas psychological effects.. Is THC only used for recreational purposes? Is this why people smoke dagga for these effects?. Or does THC also offer medicinal benefits for people who are using cannabis and/or cannabis oil in South Africa?. The first step to understanding THC is to understand cannabinoids. Cannabinoids are chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant that interact with receptors in the brain and body to create various effects. There exist dozens, and potentially more than 100, cannabinoids in the cannabis plant, but THC is most widely known among these due to its abundance and psychoactive attributes.. The isolation of THC came from an Israeli chemist by the name of Raphael Mechoulam. In 1964, Mechoulam isolated and synthesized THC from Lebanese hashish, marking the beginning of cannabis research that would lead to ...
CBD is unique in that it (and often in combination with other cannabinoids) can positively interact with your endocannabinoid system (ECS). This neural network exists throughout your body and in every organ. The importance of the endocannabinoid system is clear when you consider it is responsible for the regulation of biological functions such as appetite, sleep, immune response, mood, and pain. These are mechanisms which when faulty, contribute to a wide range of health problems. Cannabinoids act by attaching to receptors in the ECS and modifying their activity. This interaction can reduce symptoms caused by the imbalance in the ECS such as inflammation, tremor, stress, lack of appetite and pain. CBD oil capsules will work differently depending on the person and should not be considered as a replacement for any prescribed medication, nor be taken with other medications without getting advice from a medical professional.. ...

Phytochemical Aspects and Therapeutic Perspective of Cannabinoids in Cancer Treatment. By Sanda Vladimir‐Knežević, Biljana Blažeković, Maja Bival Štefan and Marija Kindl. Cannabinoids comprise the plant‐derived compounds and their synthetic derivatives as well as endogenously produced lipophilic mediators. Phytocannabinoids are terpenophenolic secondary metabolites predominantly produced in Cannabissativa L. The principal active constituent is delta‐9‐tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which binds to endocannabinoid receptors to exert its pharmacological activity, including psychoactive effect. The other important molecule of current interest is non‐psychotropic cannabidiol (CBD). Since 1970s, phytocannabinoids have been known for their palliative effects on some cancer‐associated symptoms such as nausea and vomiting reduction, appetite stimulation and pain relief. More recently, these molecules have gained special attention for their role in cancer cell proliferation and death. A ...
Gliomas (tumors in the brain) are especially aggressive malignant forms of cancer, often resulting in the death of affected patients within one to two years following diagnosis. There is no cure for gliomas and most available treatments provide only minor symptomatic relief.. A review of the modern scientific literature reveals numerous preclinical studies, some case reports, and one controlled clinical study demonstrating cannabinoids ability to act as antineoplastic agents, particularly on glioma cell lines.. Writing in the September 1998 issue of the journal FEBS Letters, investigators at Madrids Complutense University, School of Biology, first reported that delta-9-THC induced apoptosis (programmed cell death) in glioma cells in culture.[1] Investigators followed up their initial findings in 2000, reporting that the administration of both THC and the synthetic cannabinoid agonist WIN 55,212-2 induced a considerable regression of malignant gliomas in animals.[2] Researchers again ...
Is diabetes more workable with cannabis? There was a growing human body of medical studies the period to cannabis as a feasible treatment plan for diabetic issues. Should you rejoice? How exactly does cannabis assist you to with diabetic issues Marijuana works closely with the endogenous cannabinoid system. This technique is a vital section of your quality of life. Endocannabinoids while the receptors that are corresponding are found all over the human body, through the mind to your tissues that are connective to resistant cells, to various organs. It does a few tasks, however it is typical that these receptors may take place with homeostasis. Homeostasis is exactly just how your system keeps an environment that is stable even while outside conditions modification. This can be a known reality which has been understood since 2005 As soon as 2005, the United states Alliance for health Cannabis has stated that there was a growing human anatomy of research that supports the thought of utilizing ...
Cannabidiol (CBD) was first isolated from Minnesota wild hemp in 1940. It was not until 1963 that the exact structure was discovered by Raphael Mechoulam, the father of cannabis research. Much less research was initially done on CBD than THC because of its relative lack of psychoactive properties compared to THCs dominant role in producing marijuanas psychoactive powers. THC and CBD are the two most abundant cannabinoid molecules in marijuana. Both come from the same nonpsychoactive precursor cannabigerol (CBG). The amounts of THC and CBD produced by any given cannabis strain are inversely related. High THC means low CBD, and vice versa. The ratio of THC and CBD depends on the relative abundance of enzymes any strain has for synthesizing each from the limited pool of CBG. Horticulturists have bred strains with high proportions of THC (Skunk) for maximum psychoactive effect and high CBD (Charlottes Web) for treating rare forms of childhood epilepsy.. It is unfortunate that many, if not most, ...
Theyre from the exact same plant species - Cannabis sativa. Its common to mistake hemp and cannabis unless you know why theyre different. If its under .3% THC content then its hemp and is classified as legal for academic and educational purposes, according to federal law. What is commonly referred to as cannabis (or medical marijuana) contains THC levels above .3% and can extend into levels between 15-30% THC. Remember, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive component of cannabis. Without these higher THC levels, there are no psychoactive effects for you.. In 2014, President Obama signed into law the Agricultural Act of 2014. Section 7606 of the act, Legitimacy of Industrial Hemp Research, defines industrial hemp as distinct from marijuana. This authorizes institutions of higher education or state departments of agriculture in states that legalized hemp cultivation to regulate and conduct research and pilot programs. Basically, its up to the states to regulate the growth per their ...
Many cannabis farmers utilize greenhouses to begin with for their cannabis crops. However, by growing cannabis indoors during the winter, you wont have to worry about the cold temperatures outdoors. Greenhouses equipped with the proper lighting and heat can grow your cannabis plants superbly and extend the photoperiod. The constant light will ensure your plants dont enter a dormant phase and that they keep growing all winter long.. If you are growing your cannabis plants inside your home, HID lights, or high-intensity discharge lights work exceedingly well. HPS (high-pressure sodium) light and MH (metal halide) lights also get the job done. LED (low-intensity diode) lights are growing in popularity because they are more energy efficient and will save you money in the long run.. If you are about to move your cannabis plants indoors from outdoors, be sure the growing environment does not get too cold or too hot like in the fall where mornings are cold and afternoons are warm. This can lead to an ...

Like CBD, CBG isolate is non-psychoactive. However, scientists are still researching how CBG fully affects humans. For example, theyre exploring how different non-psychoactive cannabinoids like CBG can offer clinical uses.. You can buy CBG isolate bulk to experience the benefits for yourself. For example, some reports suggest that CBG is a partial agonist for cannabinoid receptors. This means that CBG could serve purposes that differ from CBDs known abilities. Though its possible CBG could help patients with other ailments, its also likely theres some overlap.. For starters, CBG can alter your mind in a way that might help ease anxiety and depression symptoms. CBG could also help counteract the effects of THC the same way CBD is able to.. Like CBD, CBD is able to activate CB1 receptors. This ability means CBG can decrease psycho-activation, which allows CBD and CBG to help you counteract the high you experience from THC.. ...

What is CBD? Cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of over 85 cannabinoids that is identified in the cannabis plant. CBD is becoming increasingly popular amongst the masses for having a wide scope of medicinal benefits – due to clinical reports and mounds of test data showing little to no side effects and a lack of psychoactivity (typically associated with marijuana products and high THC). Cannabidiol (CBD) is not only a major phytocannabinoid, it is the most concentrated form from the three main cannabis plants. The three main forms to use cannabis are Hashish, Resin, & Oil. All mammals have an endocannabiniod system. Every mammal's system CRAVES hemp/cannabis. We are made to ingest the compounds found in this humble herb and plant.
